Antonio is the only surviving child of a middle class Italian family during WW2.
His mother has speech impairment and is communicating with him and his father solely through notes. His father is struggling to make living for the family working at the close train station.

Persuading his dream he leaves the family home as a young man and immigrates to Venice where he meets the love of his life amidst his first piano lessons of Chopin and Mozart. Failing to have success with the piano though Antonio finally turns to writing in order to "release his thoughts". Describing his hard life of poverty, loss of brothers, disabled mother and disappointments in love. A novel of over 400 pages that while fictional may very much be the life of everyone.
