I know I’m twisted. Growing up in a perfectly well-adjusted home, I don’t really have an excuse. But no matter… I realize how messed up I am. And therapy can only do so much.
I pushed my boyfriend to violence, a violence he couldn't control. Sickly, I almost liked it. So I pushed him more. Before long, the pain outweighed the pleasure and the loss I sustained shattered me. So I ran. I’m now a bit shell-shocked harboring a lot of guilt. My boyfriend is now my ex and wants revenge. He wants me to pay for turning him into the monster he’s become. And I still have a deviant yearning that I don’t understand. My own monster inside… my own demon to battle.
I can’t get close to anyone. I can’t give in and scratch that itch. I can’t wreck someone else.
And now there is Kian… my rescuer on a dark, painful night. He sees through my pretense. He tries to pull me from my frightened isolation, to keep me from becoming a victim. He forces me to face my warped desires and shows me that pain doesn’t really have to truly hurt.
He wants to show me a way to serenity. But I am afraid… Will I ruin a good man?

Sibylla Matilde grew up on the back of a horse exploring in the mountain valleys of Southwest Montana. She attended a two-room schoolhouse 1st through 6th grade where she had same teacher the whole time. At the age of 12, Siby discovered historical romance, devouring the work of Jude Devereaux, Lisa Kleypas, and Karen Robards. She began writing in 2013 with her debut novel, Little Conversations, and self-published ten works over the next three years. She took a few years off to deal with life (it proved very difficult to move on from her Bangin’ Mofos…they were a blast to write), but is back at the keyboard with new steamy stories brewing in her naughty little brain.
Music is her emotional trigger. Growing up with a Wagnarian-opera-loving mother, Sibylla loves music that digs deep into her soul and covers her with goosebumps. The soundtrack to her life includes different genres and generations, but her favorites include Thirty Seconds to Mars (she’s a bit obsessive about Jared Leto, actually), Kings of Leon, The Killers, My Chemical Romance, and many other artists and bands. Her inspiration playlists on Spotify truly drive her writing, and she loves to share her eclectic taste with anyone who will listen.
Siby strives to write books that make the reader bask in the sweet glow of new love, burn hot with a passionate intensity, and day drink from gut-wrenching heartache. Her characters are not world-famous rock stars or billionaires, rather every-day small-town people experiencing their own extraordinary romantic adventures in the Rocky Mountains she calls home. Siby loves to hear from fans and can be reached at Siby@SibyllaMatilde.com.
Brynn has escaped from her abusive ex-boyfriend Evan and is now living in a new town. She lives a very quite life and tries to stay unnoticed. She is afraid of Evan finding her.
Kian, one of the locals, noticed her the very first day she entered the local bar. He was immediately drawn to her but didn't make a move on her. Instead he just watched her.
It might sounds a little creepy but it was a good thing because one night Evan finds Brynn and attacks her. Kian sees the whole scene and rescues her. After that incident Kian tries to take care of Brynn and convinces her to take self defense classes in the gym where he is the trainer.
That's when the friendship between Kian and Brynn starts. They are attracted to each other from the beginning. But they remain friends because he doesn't want the be a rebound guy for Brynn. And Brynn is afraid that she will ruin Kian like she ruined her ex-boyfriend Evan. Brynn blames herself for making Evan an abusive person. Of course it is total
They can't deny their attraction for long and eventually give in. At this point I want to say that Sibylla can write amazing erotic scenes. The sex scenes between Kian and Brynn were expectedly off the charts.
Kian was very sweet and protective. Sometimes he seemed like a little stalker. But he was just really protective over Brynn. He has also a particular desire.
He introduces Brynn into bondage. I liked reading about it but I was glad the bondage didn't overplay.
Brynn was a likeable heroine but somehow I couldn't connect with her as I could with Kian. She annoyed me a little towards the end with the whole I'm-not-good-enough-for-you stuff.
I think Kian has the right to decide that for himself. And I'm very glad that he never gave up on her
It wasn't a fluffy and light read. But I wouldn't declare it as a dark read either. It was something in between for me. I think I'm going to give it 3.5-4 Stars. It's sure a good and enjoyable read but I didn't love it as much as "In the Firelight". I can't put my finger on it but something in Brynns character was just missing for me.

I loved Kian, he’s an Alpha with a motorbike! That’ll do me
Brynn has fled from an abusive boyfriend and ends up in a small town trying to keep herself to herself. Her only pleasure is hanging out at the local club to dance. Little does she know she is being watched over by the protective Kian who is intrigued by the beautiful blonde.
The book starts with Kian rescuing Brynn and a friendship is formed thereafter where he teaches her self-defense. Brynn is reluctant at first but soon they become lovers and we are introduced to the art of Kinbaku where we get some steamy scenes full of sexual tension and hotness!
I really enjoyed this book, the third I have read from Author Sibylla Matilde. I enjoy her writing style and her male characters are always my cup of tea.
The only reason I didn’t give higher than a 4 star is because I personally like a bit more anticipation and a ‘will they, won’t they?’ scenario in my books but this is a personal preference and not a reflection of standard of the book.

Because of Kian crossed between the ‘like’ and ‘okay’ zone for me.
While I did like the plot and characters, some of the elements felt a bit cliché and predictable.
The story focuses on heroine, Brynne and her breaking away from an abusive relationship while rediscovering herself and finding love in the process.
She meets our dream worthy and scorching hot male after he rescues her from a violent encounter with her ex and their fates are forever entwined.
Kian proves to be everything Brynne could need: a lover, protector, fighter, and most importantly, a friend. He is what sold the story and is the heart of it all for me.
I could write more on how sweet, caring, considerate, and steamy Kian was (in and out of bed!) but I think you’re better off just reading this for yourself.
So over all, it was a good and decent read but nothing I haven’t exactly read before. On the bright side though, I did appreciate how the author starts Kian and Brynne off slowly from friendship (even though it's obvious that they feel more for each other than just that right off the bat) to romance because it made the characters’ bond more realistic and pack more of a punch. But other than that, it was just an "alright" and "likable" read in my book. Sorry!

****3.25~3.5 Kian Stars****
When I first read Sibylla Matilde’s first book, Little Conversations, I was hooked with her writing and I knew I had to read more of her works. I loved her second book In the Firelight and so when I saw she had a new book titled Because of Kian, I knew I had to add this book on my TBR. So when Ms. Matilde offered me a gifted copy, I was so happy to dive right into reading this book.
The story starts off with Brynn Ashton, who ran away from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Evan. She’s living in a new town and has very few friends. One night after exiting a bar, her Evan attacks her but luckily for her, Kian was there to save her. He happened to witness this horrific ordeal and was ready to save and protect Brynn from her attacker. Safely sound, Kian offers to teach Brynn a private self defense class in which she happily accepts. Brynn right off the bat is deeply attracted to Kian. She feels safe with him. As for Kian, he was attracted to Brynn from the first time he laid eyes on her. He was drawn to her innocence and beauty. As they slowly get to know each other, their relationship moved from friendship to something more. Their sexual chemistry was HOT but Brynn had to put a halt on their fast pace romance . With her insecurities, fears, and ex still lurking around, Kian and her relationship had to face the ultimate test. How far will Brynn push away her chance at happiness and love?
Because of Kian was definitely different than her previous books. This book explores the emotional state of the heroine, Brynn and how that has affected her life when it comes to opening up heart and love. Kian, the hero in the book was driving force of the storyline. He made the story in my opinion and without him the storyline would have fell flat. Kian was the protector, the lover, the best friend, and the hero of the book. As much as I loved Kian, I wished I knew more of him and his past. I wanted to know what made him interested in Kinbaku. As for Brynn, I couldn’t connect to her as much as I wanted to. Yes, I was sadden by her emotional well being but her thought process bothered me. There was an element of depth and connection that was missing in the storyline that I felt was a crucial. Don’t get me wrong, I love Kian and Brynn as couple. I knew that they were perfectly matched for each other but Brynn’s decisions were at times frustrating. There were times I wanted to shake her and tell her Kian is not like your ex-boyfriend. He’s different and you already know that so open up to him and let him in. If you already trust him with your body, then trust him with your heart.
Overall, I enjoyed Because of Kian. Ms. Matilde knows how to write a hot steamy scene for sure. Because of Kian had the sexual chemistry down in their storyline but a hot scene can’t be the only thing the book. Personally, I needed more details of Kian and Brynn’s past and I wanted to know more of Brynn’s relationship with Evan. These missing details and the fast storyline was the missing element from making this book from good to great.
I got my complimentary copy. Hell yeah it's on.. :)
4 Totally Tied up Stars!!!
The book was a total package book for me. I thought the characters had great chemistry. The angst was just the right amount of angst and the sex was totally hot. What more could you ask for. I'm a fan of this author so it's not a surprise to me that I liked this book, but if you haven't read her you, your missing out.
After ditching her abusive boyfriend, Brynn has arrived in a new town. She rarely leaves her house, except to go to work, to see her therapist, and occasionally attends a certain bar. She doesn't want to date, because she doesn't trust anyone. She also has a masochistic need, but this was taken too far by her ex.
One night while leaving the bar, her ex has found and confronted her, physically. Thankfully a Good Samaritan has stopped the altercation and scared him away. Kian has been watching the beautiful Brynn for a while. He wants to get to know the mysterious girl better. He too has a deviant sexual need, that not many women would willingly participate in.
This is a story of finding love, trust, and your other half.
Although written well, this lacked originality for me. It was not a bad story, but I think I have read too many of theses types of books with the same plot. This was not very memorable for me.
This was a pretty quick read and did have it's fair share of love, steam, drama, and suspense.
If you want to read a story of a broken girl being fixed by an alpha male (who's extremely sweet) I would recommend.
Cover: Nice Rating: NC-17 Steaminess: HOT Thumbs Up: 4.5 Overall: I was hooked. Characters: Well Done Plot: Overcoming weakness to be strong Page Turner: Yes Series Cont.? N/A Recommend: Yes Book Boyfriend: Kian
SUMMARY (50 words or less) The one thing I love about this author is that she shows us vulnerable characters. Not every woman is strong. Some woman possess an inner strength they haven’t tapped into. And sometimes the love of a good man brings it out.

'It’s truly amazing how physical and emotional abuse can skew your perceptions of the entire world. About yourself.’ – Brynne
Gitte: We were so excited to meet Kian, weren’t we Jenny,…just because, and we weren’t disappointed. He was like a gentle giant with a fierce and kinky edge who drove the storyline as the more likeable, interesting and solid character.
“He told me I was breathtaking. He told me I was brave. He told me I was his.” – Brynn
He was a protector, he had a vulnerable side and he was sweet and passionate.
“Always so protective of women and children….You can’t save us all, Kian.” – Brynn
This story had so much promise, Sibylla Matilde really is a great Author, her writing is flawless and smooth. We meet Kian rescuing Brynn, in more ways than one, and they embark on a journey of bared hearts, passion and revelations as they find themselves embroiled in Brynn’s escape from a scorned violent man.
‘I’d seen her practically crushed, and I wanted nothing more than to protect her.’ – Kian
Because of Kian started off great and I was really invested, however for me, it lost momentum which it never really picked up again until right at the end. I also found it missing depth to the characters and their respective backgrounds which for me had a consequential impact on the crux of the story. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy it but I didn’t love it. It felt quite rushed and there were some inconsistencies too. I only point this out because this story could have been amazing because Kian stands out as such a brilliant unique male character; but something was missing and thinking about it, well for me, it comes down to the character development and backstory. I struggled with a connection to our heroine because of this and would have loved more about what made Kian…well Kian.
“I’m not sure what it is…but it’s almost like, the tighter you hold me, the more secure I feel.” – Brynn
Without doubt though, I definitely got the strong passionate connection between Kian and Brynn; though through my inability to connect with Brynn I felt frustrated at times with her behaviour.
‘He quite simply held my soul in his hands..’ – Brynn
‘I knew I wasn’t good for her, but I also knew I had to try to be.’ – Kian
It’s a tough one isn’t it, Jenny?! It could have been a fab read for us rather than just okay, but it just fell short didn’t it?
Jenny: It is a tough one Gitte, because I was initially pulled right into the story and knew Kian, as a character was going to be something special. He immediately had a presence and I completely agree because it was Kian who drove this story for me. There was so much to this man and I was completely smitten with him. Fiercely protective, understanding, passionate and loving, scarred by his past and a man who possessed an absolute heart of gold. Yep, it was because of Kian that I kept turning the pages.
‘My paradise. My heaven. My Brynne.’ – Kian
Like you Gitte, I did enjoy Because of Kian but it didn’t engross me nor evoke the feelings I had anticipated. I would have loved for the characters to have been explored a little more because the lead up to the crux of the story did feel a little rushed. It felt as though we weren’t afforded the luxury of settling in to the story before it was all racing along, leaving me wanting.
Brynn was such a damaged character who felt as though she was some sort of monster and who blamed herself for her circumstances, when in actuality she was very much the survivor. You couldn’t help but feel sorry for her and the inner turmoil she was feeling though I didn’t connect with Brynne as I did Kian.
‘…I had a deviant, masochistic side that brought out the monster in men.’ – Brynne
Would Kian’s patience, love, passion and understanding be enough to heal the wounds and provide the tools needed to heal? Could he be Brynne’s saviour? The premise of the story was great, the character of Kian was gripping but like you Gitte, I would have loved a little more depth to Brynne and Kian because as much as I felt the passion in their relationship, to me, it also felt as if something was missing.
J&G: Sibylla Matilde is one author we will keep checking out time and again as we loved her work in In the Firelight and she really does have a unique way of telling her stories and creating amazing characters.
“I don’t know what I’m scared of, Kian. Maybe I’ve just tried to stay in the shadows for so long that I’m afraid of being exposed.” – Brynn
Whilst we were initially captivated with Because of Kian it just didn’t have the same pull for us that her previous work had. That’s not to say we didn’t enjoy this read because we did, we simply felt something was missing.
“You’re not fucked up…You’re unique, I’ll give you that.” – Kian
There is no doubt we’ve found a book boyfriend in Kian. This man stole our hearts. This story of pain, healing and survival and finding that person who can free your soul. We know a lot of readers will find this story of two damaged characters who together, seek to possess the strength to make them whole, one they will definitely want to pick up.

My mind is blown away! My brain has pretty much exploded and floated away in the afterglow of reading about Kian and Brynn. Why? Why did I wait so long to read this?? Why, after seeing this book over and over, did I not begin it right away? My heart mourns for the time I didn't have with Kian. Dramatic? Maybe... but very true! Kian. Oh Kian. He's sexy and strong and sweet and caring. He knows what he wants and doesn't let anything stop him from feeling. He's protective and kind and just reading his name makes you feel safe. He's real. A real man. A loyal, intelligent, beautiful man!
Brynn. If you've never met a heroine whose vulnerabilities become her strengths, whose experiences become her steady path forward. If you've never met a heroine who determinedly welcomes change with strength and beauty, then you must meet Brynn. You must! She's been through Hell and come out on top. She's let herself feel and fear (although shakily) and waver while keeping herself carefully in the forefront. It's fascinating to watch her grow from a woman unsure about the course of her life into this complex yet deeply felt human being. It's because of this that I don't want to strangle her for getting Kian to herself.
This story. You cannot miss this beautiful story any longer. It's emotional and deep, insightful, with a light humor that rounds it out perfectly and says so much about these characters. It is a story about finding yourself in a way you never dreamed was possible. Finding your other half and letting the pieces fall where they may. Because that kind of love is so healing.
The writing... oh my god the writing is impeccable. Descriptions vivid and well versed, pulling you in until you cannot help but feel every word! The plot reels you in, makes you bite your nails and sigh. These two characters together are so strong, complex, and sexy as hell. Dear Lord I thought I would burst at many many points in this story. Believe me, If you love the steam (and a unique practice) you will love Kian and Brynn. I could go on and on. I WANT to go on and on. Please! Please read this book! For the sake of every romantic cell in your body! Read about Kian and Brynn. You will fall as hard as I have. The decision was not made lightly, but Kian is my #1! He has surpassed all of my favorites and I've made a comfy spot in my heart and mind for him. I applaud the author for such beautiful work and I excuse myself to pick up the pieces of my brain as they unfortunately fall back to earth. Thank you for this experience! 10 stars!! There is no other rating for it!
I received this book as a gift for an honest review.
Sibylla Matilde has done it again!
Kian is, what's the word? HOT! He owns a gym where he teaches self-defense classes. He's built, sexy and he falls hard for Brynn.
Brynn has had a rough time of it. Her last boyfriend beat the crap out of her, repeatedly, and she's scarred, scared, and lonely.
Kian watches Brynn for a while at a local bar they both frequent. He recognizes the pain in her eyes and the way she keeps to herself. He follows her to her car each night, even though she isn't aware, because he wants to make sure she's safe.
When they finally meet, formally, the sparks are instant and intense.
These characters are easy to fall in love with. You will not be sorry you spent time reading this book.

***REVIEW MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS***
My God! What doesn’t this novel have in it? The romance. The drama. The intensity of it all! Fantastic! Once I started turning the pages, I couldn’t put it down until I was completely finished. Ms. Matilde dazzles her readers yet again with a most provocative read! It acquaints the reader with a hero that is no less than ruthless when it comes to protecting “his woman”. The reader is also introduced to a heroine who just does not deem herself worthy of this gorgeous man’s love. When she finally understands the truly intimate bond that they share, she now can embrace a possible lifelong relationship with him. And, this is a huge step for her because she now believes herself deserving of such an emotionally profound union.
“My soul had been released. The ache and loneliness had finally faded away, and I had the incredible urge to spread my own wings and fly.” ~ Brynn (Chap. 23)
Brynn Ashton is a victim of domestic abuse. After she runs from her abusive relationship, her violent and repulsive ex-boyfriend, Evan finally tracks her down. Brynn is saved by a white knight who just happens to scare Evan off running into the night right after he’s taken liberties of making her face a punching bag. When she finally gets a glimpse of her savior, she is enormously intrigued with the broad-sculpted Adonis that has come to her rescue. With his dark blonde hair and blue eyes, he’s simply stunning. And, while Brynn is fascinated with her hero’s good-looks and protective nature, Kian is captivated by Brynn’s innocence and beauty as well. With her blonde hair and green eyes, Kian just can’t take his eyes off of her. He realizes that he’s so f**cked! And, as the two spend more time together, their relationship takes major steps both intimately and emotionally. Unfortunately, though, when their happiness is threatened not once but numerous times, I found myself questioning if this couple will ever be able to find their way back to each other when all is said and done.
Brynn and Kian’s relationship was so hot! Intimate love scenes that were cold-shower worthy! Kian was the consummate lover, and Brynn was his more than willing partner. Together they burned up the pages of this novel. Ms. Matilde stops at nothing less than describing their sexual exploitations as red-hot and intense. And, when Kian introduces a whole new fascination into their lovemaking, it just makes Brynn more turned-on amongst the sheets.
Wow! I just was so into this story. Damn! I wish it was a little longer, though. Ms. Matilde takes a lonely and damaged young woman and makes her whole again when a chance encounter with a stranger gives her a reason to live. It was hard to read about Brynn’s lack of self-worth, but with Kian in her corner, the reader could sense that she would find her way back from this possible threatening fate of isolation and learn to love who she was again – gradual though the process may be.
Told by alternating POV’s, the author blends the two voices, both male and female, magically as they experience their blossoming love for each other. Both individuals tenderly experiencing an abiding emotional longing for the other. It’s deep and steadfast with a promise of forever lingering near. If Brynn was not so damaged, there wouldn’t be much of a story because Kian was just that strong of a male lead. Brynn was definitely a brave soul to take a chance on Kian given her history with men. He constantly reassured her that she was the right person for him – if only she, herself, could possibly believe that. She just had to trust in herself. Once she decidedly enveloped some of that trust, she seemed to be somewhat on the road to recovery. A long road, but nonetheless, a positive start.
“Because of Kian”, Brynn can now be who she truly is meant to be...
This was an amazing read that spoke to individuals with low self-esteem that meeting the right person and having faith in one’s self was key. It gave great promise that there is life after an abusive relationship even though one might be lonely and damaged. I cannot recommend this novel enough! So looking forward to reading Ms. Matilde’s next book!
Sooooo loved the SEXY COVER! And, even though Kian was a super-ultra male, my number one love is still Ronin from Little Conversations. He's still my main squeeze...ha! No one is as freakin’ fine as Ronin...(sigh)
**I received a complimentary copy of this work from the author for an honest review** Thank you, Sibylla!
“…nobody’s as together as they seem. Everyone has skeletons in their closet and monsters under their bed.”
I loved the premise of this book, I did enjoy the story and I loved Kian. Personally I just felt that this book moved a bit too quick, it is fast paced but sometimes the problem with this is that substance is a casualty. I would have loved to have learned more about Brynn, especially pre Kian and I just feel that knowing more about her would have enabled me to connect better with her. I just felt that little bit disconnected with Brynn. She did start to warm towards the end though and I really did enjoy the story despite the above.
“…I wanted to be wanted.”
Kian was totally and utterly adorable, a knight in shining armour coming to the rescue of his damsel in distress, he should have rode in on horseback, but instead drives a motorbike!! He felt a connection to Brynn but needed to play it cool and be discrete. He had been watching her for a while but could tell that she was not in the right frame of mind for a relationship. He used to see her at the club and couldn’t help but watch out for her. He was fiercely protective, extremely passionate and a little bit kinky!! Thank God he was watching out for her because if he wasn’t we could have been reading an entirely different book.
“Every time she made my fingertips ache to touch her. She made my heart ache to love her.”
After his rescue mission, Kian tries to break through to Brynn but Brynn, having escaped an abusive relationship is slow to trust and let any man in but Kian has perseverance and staying power. An instructor in self-defence Kian persuades Brynn to have some one on one lessons so that she can be prepared in future, but will one on one lead to more one on one of a totally different nature? Kian at least hopes so!
“No matter how hard you try to pull away. You’ll never convince me that I’m better off without you. Because I’m shit without you…I’ll fight for you, even if it means fighting you for you.”
Brynn has had a troubled past and we are treated to a little of this throughout the book, however, I wanted and needed to know more. She had many problems and I just thought that these needed to be explored a bit more with a bit more detail. I did feel sorry for her, but I should have felt emotional and I lacked that emotional connection with her. My heart broke for her in places, I was egging her on to let Kian in and just wanted to sit back and watch the fireworks, with Kian, you knew there would be fireworks once they did get together. They did have chemistry; I did feel the underlying attraction and Kian being the person that he was made this book for me. He was understanding, patient, sincere, kind and thoughtful, despite his own problems and his own past. He was in short, adorable, despite his man-whorish past.
“…because I had a deviant, masochistic side that brought out the monster in men.”
This is a story about learning to leave the past behind, overcoming fears, finding that inner strength and not letting that past determine your future. It is about learning to trust and live again, letting love in and giving it back but most of all it is about survival.
“I can now feel pain without shutting down. I can now feel love without freezing in fear. I can now be who I am without shame.”
This was a great story that I loved and I really enjoyed, but being the emotional person that I am, I was greedy and wanted that little bit more, but none the less, it was a fab read.
Because of Kian, Is a story of recovery, acceptance and love.....
Brynn is a woman struggling to recover from a traumatic and abusive relationship. Moving to Beavertail to escape her violent ex Evan, she is living a self imposed lonely and insular existence.... going through the motions of life having cut off from her parents and alienating herself from her friends.. In an effort to break her self damaging lifestyle choices, she starts to go to the local club Hyper!! She drinks alone, dances alone and leaves alone... but these evenings become a salve on her sorry life. leaving the club one night, she is attacked by Evan who has tracked her down... help comes though in the form of a long haired, motorcycle riding and martial art instructor Kian. Kian has watched this beautiful, quiet girl over the last few months... she has captivated him. He steps in to save and protect her from the physical abuse she receives at the hands of Evan. The hardest part though Will be saving her from herself. Will he be Brynn' s salvation, will he earn her trust, but most of all will he be able to take Brynn on a journey of acceptance to discover who she really is
Brynn is a character that you cannot help but feel sorry for... she really has suffered at the hands of her abusive ex.... and as with most survivors of domestic abuse, she blames herself. Kian Is the perfect night in shining armour... I loved his protective instinct, his gentleness and his determination to be with Brynn, no matter what!! I did find myself a little frustrated at some of Brynn' s thoughts and action and the effect they had on the lovely Kian, but her experiences have seriously f'd her up so I found myself putting myself in her shoes... she feels worthless and is ashamed of who she is and what she needs. Kian has his own past experiences and uses them to understand and love her!!
This really is an enjoyable book. Yes, it has a heavy subject matter but I wouldn't call it a dark romance by any means.. It is a love story about moving on from your past, excepting your needs, trusting other and finding happiness in your choices.. It contains lots of steam and has a light BDSM tone.... (although don't expect leather and whips :) LOL!!) There are a few secondary characters, such as Evan, Brynn's friend Sage and her daughter Mattie, Rose the therapist and the vindictive cougar Holly. They are though very much secondary characters... the story really does focus entirely on Brynn and Kian, and is told in both their POV's.
I highly recommend this read if you enjoy reading about a damaged heroine and a knight in shining armour... Alpha style :)
Remember that name because Kian is HOT! I knew when I read In the Firelight that Sibylla could bring the steam, and with Because of Kian she did not disappoint! This man is not only hot, he’s also so sweet and kind of hero-ish which I’m a total sucker for.
This is a story of how a woman named Brynn Ashton picked herself back up after being torn down by a horrible man. Kian knows who Brynn is, and when he sees her in desperate need of help he can’t help but swoop in and be her hero. And he does it so well too! The only problem is that Brynn is so scared and hurt by her past that she can’t see what’s right in front of her. She has a real problem trusting people and even though she’s slowly letting her guard down around Kian, she still can’t seem to let go 100%.
Kian decides to help Brynn gain her confidence back by enlisting some interesting techniques. The attraction they have towards each other is completely obvious, but they don’t act on this right away. Kian is very aware of Brynn’s leniency and doesn’t take advantage of her ever. It’s almost as if he knows exactly what she needs before she even knows. And this is why Kian is so dreamy, it’s as if he was made for Brynn to protect her and heal her.
“I’m doing this because I want you. Now. I want to get lost in you, to feel you inside me again.”
I really enjoy Sibylla’s writing, it is very fluid and strong and her humorous side comes across as well. There is a very important element in Brynn’s healing that I believe was done beautifully. To see how her characters were able to be there for each other and how Brynn was finally able to let go and fully trust Kian was awesome, not to mention super hot! I am also a new fan of the flavor grape ;)
“Every time she made my fingertips ache to touch her. She made my heart ache to love her.”
What I Love is that there are some BDSM elements included in this book, but it definitely didn’t take over the story at all. In fact it was completely necessary to the story. It wasn’t put in there for the lust factor, it was put in very specifically to help the growth of the characters. Specifically Brynn, and I LOVED that. Don’t get me wrong, it’s seriously hot and completely lust worthy! It was written just right and Kian is a great Alpha for sure!!
“I love how you think and react. I love how you respond to me. And I really love how you fight me because it gives me the excuse to go all alpha and fuck you silly.”
“I’ll fight for you, even if it means fighting you for you.”
I have become a big fan of Sibylla’s writing so I was very excited to read Because Of Kian, and I wasn’t disappointed. IT had a little bit of everything that I love in a good book.
Lets start with the obvious attraction, Kian. Well apart from I love the name, he is also a hot tattooed, biker alpha with a heart of gold. Yes I am that easy! But you know what took him over the edge into amazing book boyfriend category? His love of kink! Yes…I admit that his love of rope work set him apart from many others out there!
Brynn has been broken by her ex who put her through a life of hell. She isn’t the woman she used to be, believing that the abuse that she has suffered is her fault, that it’s because of something dark inside her.
When they meet on that fateful night, Kian is her saviour. He quite literally saves her life, stepping into protect her. There starts a game of cat and mouse, neither of them wanting to admit that they want to be together. Brynn wanting to stay away from Kian because of her dark thoughts, the things that she needs to make her sex life amazing. And we have Kian trying to play it safe with Brynn, trying not to tell her where his sexual passions lead. Will they be able to admit that what they have together is amazing? Will they ever get past all the secrets holding them apart? And will it happen before something comes from the past to rip them apart…with dire consequences?
Ok I will leave the description there because I don’t want to give away too much of the story as you need to read this book to get the feel for it, the emotions that it will make you feel.
I have read all of Sibylla’s books now and I can honestly say that with everyone that she releases she gets better and better. It was written in the way that I like to read, it felt like I was truly hearing what the characters were saying. That I was living their story not reading it. I was wrapped up in the whole story, feeling all the emotions that they were experiencing.
I recommend everyone reads this book. It is a story that will appeal to most people, love against the past…with just a bit of kink thrown in!
Because Of Kain is a wonderful read that kept my interest for the entire book. Kain is our handsome hot alpha hero, he is the ultimate protector and perfect gentle man apart from when he is in the bedroom then he turns all kinda of naughty. Brynn our heroine is beautiful, fragile, confused and altogether a little bit lost in my opinion. She escaped the abusive grip of her ex to start a new life, one where is keeps to herself hoping to blend in and be invisible. One night she finds herself under attack by her Ex when a beautiful stranger intervenes and rescues her from a potential Fatal beating. She passes out and is awoken in the strong arms of the stranger who saved her. And thus their romance begins. Kian knows a battered women when he sees one and Brynn is defiantly one, after spotting her one night at the local bar he has taken a protective role in the background make sure she gets to her car safely and all the drunks stays away from her but he never once approached her until the night he had to step in and save her. Kian is no stranger to violence and domestic issues, he runs a self defence class and offers to teach Brynn a few moves to help feel safe and able to defend herself. With the pair spending time together, feelings develop and sparks fly between them. But can a relationship work when they both have their own issues and Brynn has very little confidence. Can Kian bring her out of her shell and help her see herself in a more positive light. More importantly will Kian be able to save her from the Dangers that hide in the shadows? Overall; entertaining read with a lot of ups and down and plenty highly charged emotional situations. But it was also hot as hell Kian is into a form of Japanese bondage/ rope play that will leave you panting like a hungry dog. The secondary characters are all very well placed they play a vital role but does not over shadow the main characters. The pace was good and it flowed really well. 4/5 stars from Natasha (Scandalous Book Blog)
Kian saves Brynn from her abusive ex and their relationship develops when he offers to teach her self defence. I loved the characters in this book there is an undeniable chemistry between them. Kian is truly my ideal man, he made me weak umpteen times while I was reading sexy, good looking with a body to die for and a kinky side to him that I have never encountered before in my reading life. This would be the Kinbaku it has introduced me to a whole new side of sex with the ropes and knots. I found this to be very interesting and has sparked my interest to find out more about it. It is an incredibly sexy read with plenty of hot sex to get your juices flowing and I would have your batteries charged with a supply of back up if you know what I mean!!
On to Brynn, I adore her I felt like I connected to her in so many levels and even felt as messed up in the head with the effect Kian had on her. My heart missed a beat a few times just with the things he said to her. I love how Kian became so obsessed with Brynn and even when she feels unstable I was right there with her. The emotions are so well done I felt so in sync with the characters. A guaranteed suck you in and spit you out kind of book makes it a fantastic read. I loved every second of this. Sibylla being quite a new author on the scene but it doesn't show in her writing, its very mature and well done also the originality of this book sets it apart from others. She is now one of the authors I would drop everything just to get to her latest book. I hope to read lots more from her in the future!
I loved Kian and was lucky enough to receive a complimentary copy from the Author, who after reading three of her books, I've gotta say has made me a HUGE fan. There are many things I loved about this book, topping that was Kian. He was such a well rounded hero. His strength wasn't even the fact that he was OMG Hot and strong, I think it was the kindness of his spirit. I read so many books with these alpha men that make me swoon, Kian was different, he has something more. He is one of my favorite book boyfriends. I also loved Mattie and all her ponies, she brought a well needed smile in a book that dealt with a heavy theme. Brynn story was heartbreaking and made me really feel a range of emotions. My only irritation was with Bryn and her "self sacrificing" that caused so much angst, something that drives me crazy. All in all I really enjoyed this story that was steamy hot and an emotional ride.
This book is amazing! Brynn is a broken mess. She likes pain, and drove her ex boyfriend to inflict pain on her. She blames herself for him taking it to far. She runs.
Kian is her secret admirer/protector. Until one night at the club. Kian catches Evan, Brynn's ex, beating her in the alley. He saves her that night and things just explode from there.
It's up and down, back and forth, twists and turns. Her trying to pull away, or to push him away. He keeps trying though. He wants to help her, to love her. He shows her that it's okay for some pain and it's not suppose to hurt. Will it be enough to save her for good though?
"I can now feel pain without shutting down. I can now feel love without freezing in fear. I can now be who I am without shame ....because of Kian."
This book will bring out many emotions when you read it. You won't be disappointed at all.
complimentary copy from the author Wow I need more then 5 stars to rated this book!! Brynn doesn't just have a carry on of baggage this chick has u-haul full of old baggage, fears, and emotions she can't let go of. She loves being in the shadows and avoiding anything or anyone that can make her face the facts and maybe feel again.. Till her past catches up to her a few times and she needs to deal with it since it isn't going away. Kian has his own bagage he had keeps locked up and tattooed on him as a reminder. But he is a true alpha male who knows what he wants and goes after if even if it could be classified as stalking someone! Both Brynn and Kian together are magic, but all magic has it's flaws and isn't always perfect! Sibylla has done it again with the perfect story and perfect writing style..
Wow! Sibylla Matilde, this book was amazing! I loved The characters in this book! Brynn went through an awful abusive relationship, and moved to try to stay under the radar from her loser ex! Brynn had a really hard time letting people in her life. She definately thinks she's not good enough for anyone, not deserving of love. Until Kian....her guardian angel ! I LUV him! He's a strong, hot ass alpha male, but so caring and gentle with Brynn! The bedroom scenes are absolutely panty melting, yet make me wanna cry at the same time! So emotional, yet they create a bond that is so unbelievably powerful! This book is intense, raw, emotional, full of love,hate.....but in the end ...Because Of Kian....you will LUV it!
This is my favorite Sibylla Matilde book yet. This story is written so beautifully and flawlessly. Sibylla introduces us to the unknown world of kinbaku. The steam factor was high, and I'll never look at the color purple the same again. :)
♥Every time she made my fingertips ache to touch her.♥ ♥She made my heart ache to love her.♥ *sigh*
4.5 STEAMING HOT STARS! This is now my favorite book by Sibylla Matilde book. Has just the right amount of passion, love, angst, sexiness, and lets not forget some purple rope!
And just because i really did love Mattie so much! i can't wait for her to get her daddy!!!
I was given a complimentary copy from the author, first of all thank u Sibylla.
Well i really don't know were to start... Passion was there, love was there... Sexy... Well... There...
This one never had a empty space, was always in the move. Love the charaters.. Kian and Briann were made for each other, they were made to save each other... This one didn't disappoint ... Definitely a good 5 stats...
Great story. Loved the relationship between Kian and Brynn. Even as fk'd up as her head was, a little BDSM went a long way with her. The BDSM portions didn't overplay the story, which I'm glad for. Sibylla knows how to make my mouth water with some yummy Montana men.
