Wulf Gabriel is at the top of his game as a male model. He's paid very well, but has to work long hours. He heads to the restaurant owned by some friends, Trink and Yvan, who are lovers as well as business partners. They have the kind of committed relationship that Wulf longs for, but despairs of ever finding for himself. This time, he explains to them that he's being threatened, and asks for their advice. They tell him they've both experienced that sort of thing, and were helped by the Man, AKA the Harbinger. Wulf knows who that is quite well--Luc Saint Cyr--the man his father worked for. But he never wants to see him again.
When the threat intensifies, Wulf reluctantly drops in on the man he never wanted to be beholden to. As the son of Luc's then-"Chosen" one, Wulf knows that Luc is a Sempervian--an eternal being who has lived for thousands of years, and probably will continue to live for thousands more. He's also one of the most powerful men in the universe. He's surprised, but gratified when Wulf asks for his help. But he insists that things will be done his way--and that Wulf has no choice but to obey him. They soon discover together that Wulf is a "natural submissive," and Luc briefly tries to fight his attraction to the young man. But that doesn't last long.
I was a bit confused at first, because there is so much referred to, that is obviously a part of the lore of the Sempervians. There are many books written about this world the author has created, and plunging into it with a book that's in the middle somewhere, creates more questions than it answers. But the love story between these two is steamy. There are detailed descriptions of sexual activities referred to before the story even starts, as BDSM practices that should only be tried under the supervision of someone who knows what he's doing. They must be humanly possible, though since Luc is immortal, he's sure to survive anything. Wulf is the one who has to be more careful.
Note: this book is a free download, to get you into the series. This book is a great introduction to a world that the author isn't done with, since she's still publishing books in this series.
