Shane Murphy is enjoying a canoe trip with a small group of family and friends when he is thrust into a nightmare more terrifying than anything he could have imagined.
If it had ended better, I would have given it 5 stars. A family goes camping, and some dudes with shotguns rape, torture, and kill some of them. Meanwhile, the HIM, something sinister is lurking in the woods. This is a very short read, but also very detailed and graphic. A fun read
Gory. Ugly. Extreme. All at lightning speed. Wow!! This isn't for the timid. Not for the religious set either. If you like your horror Deliverance x50, give this a read. (I probably wouldn't read this during the lunch break.)
The introduction to the novella state that it is more than scary. It’s actually disgusting. The one reason I finished it was purely my own morbid curiosity. If you thought Deliverance was awful, this one definitely is right up there on the list of my worst read books.
I'm glad this was only 31 pages because it was a complete waste of time. There isn't a story here. Most of the novelette is comprised of descriptions of torture and that's about it. There isn't any character development. The title uses the words extreme horror, but relying on depictions of torture is not horrifying. It's the crutch of someone who doesn't have the skills to do anything better. Creating tension through atmosphere, dialogue and great story telling is what real horror is all about. A story that pulls you in and immerses you so deeply that a knock at the door can make you jump is the sign of a great horror novel. Sadly, this does not even come close.
Short but extremely horrific and detailed descriptions of unspeakable horror. Terrifying human animals attack a family during a camping trip. Evil begets more evil and the animalistic trespassers experience more evil if that could be possible than they were inflicting. Not for the faint of heart. I can see how Alexander achieves success with horror writing; omg this was intense for a novelette. I can only shudder to think how scary a full length novel would be.
it was very graphic and disturbing but I liked it anyway. That says more about me than it does the book, I think. I didn't like the way it ended much but very intriguing.
This was okay. Wasn't much very original about it - killer rednecks, etc. Not much plot, except kill, kill, kill - which can be okay, if there's a little bit more to it than that.
