This book is only so-so. It contains some good instructions and ideas about stringing beads to make necklaces and bracelets, but it also says, "Use the appropriate size of cord on this project," and such. I bought the book to teach me what size of cord is appropriate for what size and weight of beads, so after reading, I still don't know enough to start any projects. My biggest fear is that I'll give necklaces as gifts and they'll fall apart and lose all the beads. I still need more instructions. I might be better off trusting the project instructions online like at Fire Mountain Gems where I buy beads and findings.

I really don't know why this book has not gotten better reviews. My daughter asked to start making her own jewelry, so we both read this book as total newbies. It is perfect if, like us, you really are just getting started in stringing beads. I would have been pretty intimidated walking into the store for the first time and not knowing what in the world I needed. Now we are heading out today to get exactly what we need and at least have a small clue about where to start.

Its quite simple to understand and great for beginning lessons but it lacks anything for those who are intermediate. No need to read this book unless you really are starting out on the beading adventure.

Though it does a wonderful job naming all the different types of beads there are, which is always good to have handy.

This is the best more elementary introduction to beading book. In some ways it is overly simple, but for the absolute beginner, it is great. The millimeter size chart on page 8 is particularly helpful for people who have not yet invested in a bead gauge or who can't yet visualize the size of beads.

The designs in this are very middle-american-mom-esque. In the back there are some drawings that illustrate general types of beaded necklaces and that was probably the best part for me.
