When an impulsive reporter with commitment issues teams up with a gullible police detective who wants to settle down, they find themselves investigating more than just a small-town crime.
Investigative reporter Jessa Becker doesn’t care if she finds a boyfriend anytime soon. She’d rather have a successful career that covers the cost of living each month. But her best friend has plans to get them wed before thirty and isn’t afraid to employ a few hairbrained schemes to make it happen. From crashing a wake to setting up shop at home improvement stores, Jessa’s life is a rotation of failed guy-finding escapades. Until she unexpectedly plummets into Chase Donovan. Literally.
Chase is a hopeless romantic who's been burned by love too many times. But when Jessa falls off the bar and into his arms during a dance contest, sparks fly. Embarrassed, Jessa flees the scene, but later learns that Chase is the new ace detective on the boat vandalism case she’s covering for the newspaper.
They team up to dig deeper, but just as their chaotic courtship turns genuine, a rival reporter accuses Jessa of dating Chase to further her career. With their hearts and careers on the line, the pair must determine whether they can overcome their deep-rooted fears and trust each other in order to find true happiness. Will they navigate their chance at love or go down with the ship?

Laugh out loud, sweet, romantic comedy and mystery
This is a surprising gem of a book. There are so many things happening and yet everything flows so smoothly and seamlessly from one scene to the next. Jessa is an investigative reporter, with a best friend who is constantly looking for dates in different places. The first scene of them at someone's funeral looking for potential men to date made me laugh and cringe so hard! And these escapades keep coming. Jessa meets Chase, a new detective in town, after winning a bar top dancing competition, and somehow continues to be thrown together while they are investigating a boat vandalism case. They get to know each other more as they continue to work on the case. The story covers the details of the investigation, bringing in several characters and subplots, and keeping you guessing who or why they did it. I was intrigued and engaged by both the blossoming relationship and the investigation happening in the story and I wanted to find out what happens in both. I liked how the characters grow and develop throughout the whole investigation and how their relationship changes. They both have issues they are trying to deal with, pasts they're trying to move on from, and careers they are working hard for. I enjoyed everything in this book and didn't want it to end. I wish there was more! If you like romantic comedies, mystery or detective stories, definitely check this out.
I found it did take a little while to pick up (around 40% is where I felt the shift), but once most of the “mystery” side of the plot was set up, it read to be more about Jessa and Chase, and THEM, both as individuals and as their flirtation grew. I do like the occasional closed door, and this had enough tension and banter that it still felt fulfilling.
There were some scenes that I wish were much longer (like meeting her family while fake dating - there was a lot of build up, and it felt like it ended after two pages once they arrived) and some shorter (the kinky hotel LOL), but it was a well balanced and easy read!
This book hooked me from the first page. The relationship between the main character and her best friend drew me in right away. The author does a good job of balancing the romance with the mystery while making it super funny along the way. I loved the witty banter between Jessa and Chase, especially when they found themselves in several hilarious unexpected situations. There were so many laugh-out-loud moments in this book that I had a hard time putting it down. I would definitely recommend this to someone who is looking for a lighthearted, entertaining read.
DNFed at 60 percent. 🙁 The romance and plot is pretty decent, I got bored with the investigation subplot though, even though I usually really like investigation stories. It's also frustrating how often they use alcohol as an *encouragement* for risky tasks, it's not a great look. The themes in this book are a little too explicit for a closed door romance in my opinion, even though they're not 'showing' anything directly.

'Front Page Kiss' by Stacy D'Alessandro is a thoroughly enjoyable read. I'd read something of hers again. Jessa and Chase get into the strangest and funniest incidents in this romcom. Enjoy.
This one started a little slow for me. I'm not a big fan of mysteries. The fake dating at the BoomTime Hotel helped with the interest level...a lot! Lol!!! The surprises Ella kept throwing at Jessa and Chase were hilarious! And wonderful!
Such a fun book. It reads like a cozy mystery mixed with a romcom. I was giggling throughout. I loved the setting as well as the antics of the main characters (especially Aubrey). If you're looking for a low-stakes seaside mystery with romcom shenanigans, Front Page Kiss is for you!
