Destiny: Illusions – The Crime of Our Ancestors is a wonderful sci-fi story. Sometimes a book or a story can be destroyed by being over descriptive. This is something that doesn't happen here. The author takes his time and thoroughly describes the scene so that you can get a vivid picture in your mind and then moves along with the story. You won’t find four paragraphs trying to describe the color orange here. The author even takes the time to provide highly developed characters. As well as back story that helps tie everything together.

This book is a great combination of mystery and adventure with an overtly sci-fi feel that keeps you turning pages. This book had me hooked that I was constantly telling myself After this chapter I’ll put it down then three chapters later I was still reading. I can’t wait to see what else this writer produces.

This book is definitely a must buy and read. Highly Recommended!

Without giving any spoilers, I have to highlight the originality of this book. Daniel Rafferty has invested quite a lot of time in developing the perfect and unique science-fiction story.
The main difference between ‘Destiny - Illusions: The Crime Of Our Ancestors’ and other books of this genre comes from the fact that the first one is not focusing only on the main subject of the Sci-Fi genre: how is the world being saved.
On the contrary, it goes much further and features some perfectly designed characters which have their own stories and encourage the reader to immerse in the fantastic world which, by the way, is beautifully described by our author.
Excellent job, Daniel!

Is there intelligent life on other planets? If so, how would those of us on earth react to such knowledge? Would we panic and assume they were hostile and become hostile ourselves? Would the aliens just become yet another culture subject to racial hate by the close minded people who already have such attitudes? Could we learn to live in harmony and trust without fear of differences? These questions make some wonderful food for thought. Author Daniel Raffety provides us with a scenario where aliens have come forth in peace and a friendly alliance is made. Both races benefit from shared technology and a seemingly strong bond is formed between the two planets. But when Earth falls victim to an attack from space will our underlying tendencies to distrust outsiders lead to a full scale intergalactic war?

I do enjoy some science fiction but am not what you would call a huge Sci-Fi nut. This is the second book that I have read from this author and I must admit that I have enjoyed them greatly. The technology is well explained and not so far over my head that I am trying to read through glazed eyes and floundering to make sense of the scenarios. The plot is well thought out with some interesting twists and editing errors are few and far between. The premise is interesting, attention getting and probably good for group reads as it does provoke the hypothetical questions I mentioned above which could lead to interesting discussions and debates. The story is fast paced, action packed and incredibly entertaining.

I highly recommend that fans of science fiction, or even those on the fence about the genre, not only check out this book, but others by Daniel Rafferty as well. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the next book in this series to be published and look forward to reading it.

Destiny Illusions is an interesting new sci fi series about two species: Humans and Peridians. They have developed a mutual alliance and friendship since they discovered one another decades past. It is a fascinating tale of political and military intrigue between two groups of similar yet different creatures.
I like the author’s style and I felt like the characters were well written and the story exciting and engrossing. The author did a good job setting up the political and sociological environments on both worlds. I also felt like the action scenes, generally space battles, were particularly exciting.
I did have a few negatives, which prevented me from giving the fifth star. While the Prologue is obviously important for back story, I felt like it was the biggest drag and at first I thought the whole book would be slow and tedious. Fortunately, I didn’t have to wait long for action, so it wasn’t as big a deal as it could have been.
There were some inconsistencies in how some of the scenes were structured, particularly when the author cuts away from a scene and returns a few pages later. For example, the battle scene between the Raptor and the Peridian ships seemed like the Raptor was getting destroyed. The scene cuts away and then returns to find the tables somewhat turned. The Titan all of a sudden was there and it looked like they were getting the best of the Peridian fighters. Then the situation reversed and the Titan was destroyed…It was just a little awkward to try to take in. One idea might be to write the entire scene as a single battle scene and then split it up however you want. At least this way the scene will read like a continuation rather than an entirely new situation.
All in all, I’d recommend this book to anyone interested in a good sci fi yarn and I’m looking forward to the continuation of the series.

Despite reading a lot of sci-fi in my younger years it's been a while since I picked one up - so this was a great book to plunge into.

Negatives first:

It's a slow starter - it took me a while to get into it. There were a lot of characters being introduced and a lot of backstory to try to get through and it slows it all down.
It suffers from the standard problem of all sci-fi novels which is a lot of description of the technology and weapons etc which can be in detriment to really getting to know the characters better.

That said, I actually really enjoyed this book, once I got into it. It picks up pace around a third of the way through and I struggled to put it down. The whole concept behind it was fascinating, and it was interesting to see how it all fit together. Rafferty does have a way with action scenes that flow really smoothly and pull you right into the drama (those were the moments I really couldn't put it down).

The ending is devastating (Too many spoilers to go into it in detail) but I have to admit it wasn't the ending I was expecting and I really liked that. I'm excited to see where this series is going next. The sequel will definitely be on my To Read list.

Overall if you're a sci-fi fan you'll love this - if you're not a sci-fi fan, if you can skim over a lot of the long descriptions of technology and ships I think you'll enjoy it too.

Excellent Science Fiction Adventure!

There is nothing I like better than a book that draws me in and does not let go until the very last word. "Destiny - Illusions: The Crime Of Our Ancestors" by Daniel Rafferty did just that!

It is an imaginative and entertaining novel - a post-apocalyptic journey into science fiction that kept me totally engrossed and greedily turning the pages in hurried anticipation of the characters’ next steps, or learning how this wondrous adventure will be resolved.

The storyline has an impressive and fluid plot - but, I'm not going to go into detail and spoil your read! The main characters are believable and nicely developed. With the highly detailed scenes and descriptions, it is easy to imagine yourself there - in the action.

Daniel Rafferty has crafted a captivating post-apocalyptic universe filled with tons of action and adventure, politics and science fiction.

I will definitely be reading more of this author's works! Great job!
