3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Yes,more stuff happens in this book than the first one. But I thought too hard about. A ten year old girl is riding her bicycle to her grandpa's house. And it's my understanding that it is many states away. Oh yeah, plus the world is full of zombies. How tough is this little girl? Then a safe haven of a mall reminded me of that zombie movie where they locked themselves in the mall. Anyways, she meets a bad guy that imprisons her, but I didn't get the full extent of what he did to her. I can only assume it was sexual, but she never came out and said it. Then SPOILERS she finds her sister. Far away from home. How she got there is a mystery. Her sister don't remember what happened to their parents. But at least it ends with her in what seems like a safe community of people. These books aren't bad, they're just not great in my opinion. But maybe they were free. I guess that was how I downloaded them
Book 2 finds Kellie a little bit older and ready to go search for her Grandpa's house, which is apparently on the other side of the country in Oregon. Kelly's plan is to head west by bicycling the highway, and then turn north when she hits the ocean. She packs her old backpack held together by safety pins and a prayer.
The Lewis and Clarke expedition didn't have it this good.
Kellie Part Two continues to be beset by monsters on the road, both dead and living. Thankfully, the living monster encounter is referenced buy not described, which will allow my child hurting sensibilities to remain intact.
Other than that, there is little of consequence here for Kellie beside the fact that she finally seems to find a safe haven in the form of a fortified trailer park, with one of her little sisters there! Whoo Hoo! You just know that more people are going to die next episode!

It has been a while since I read the first in this series, which was a short story, so I read it again to be able to make sense of this second installment. Know what? I thoroughly enjoyed it again! This second installment, which takes place almost a year after the first, was longer than the original, a novella this time, and was available as both a graphic and standard written downloaded book. Yet again, I've read the graphic version which is written in a diary form by the protagonist of the series. It makes the story seem all that more real, spelling mistakes and all, as Kelly has just now turned ten and Barbie, her diary, has been with her from the start. It is a character of sorts in itself and I just don't think you would get the full experience and feel if you read it as a standard book. Broken into short chapters makes it a very quick read with a natural flow about it. My god, it packs a punch though!! Fear, loneliness, starvation, anxiety, despair, craziness, hurt, apathy and elation ..... it's all there and you feel every word of it. It brings out all your emotions, especially when you remind yourself of just how young and alone Kelly is. Just her .... and the "monsters". I know I've downloaded the 3rd in the series, which takes place after another break of time, and I'm scouring my Kindle now for it! An excellent epic, broken down into highly readable, immensely enjoyable chunks.
The stakes grow higher as Kellie is getting further away from home with danger lurking around the corner, some danger not even zombie related. The author has shown just how cruel this world is in addition to a zombie apocalypse. Still despite all this Kellie retains most of her innocence and her will to survive this nightmare. There is some hope waiting at the end of this journey however.
Kellie's Diary 2 is such an amazing twist on your zombie apocalypse. Rather then being told through the eyes of an adult or teen, it's told through a ten year old. A shy ten year who still sees the world as a good, safe space. Kellie is witty for her age. Rather than waiting to die she comes up with a plan and goes for it. To be honest, I would have been petrified as a ten year old in her shoes.
And without giving anything away, I absolutely love how this installment ended. I was really rooting for something like that to happen. I can't wait to continue reading Kellie's journey and find out if she makes it to her grandparents.
This is the second in this series and finds Kellie a year older and significantly wiser than when we last saw her. Not only has she figured out what the monsters are but she has also come up with a plan to survive and find her family, all thanks to repeated visits to the library. And so she sets off, managing to show wisdom and abilities well beyond her 10 years as she deals with zombies, hunger, broken bike chains and not so pleasant people. In the end she finds a kind of solace, but will it last?
Kellie's Diary by Thomas Jenner is the second installment of the Kellie's Diary series. We follow Kellie as she tries to survive during the zombie apocalypse.
This is a short story written as diary entries by Kellie as she tells her tale. We follow Kellie as she becomes ever more fearful, and begins to doubt herself and her capabilities to survive.
I read the first instalment quite awhile ago. Then I noticed that 2 and 3 were out! I thought these were going to be longer but darnit, I guess not. But it's just so whimsical to have a ten year old on her own, with only Floppy - her stuffed animal and Barbie, her diary to keep her company! Getting ready for Number 3!
Little Kellie keeps keep n on running from the zombies but she has a little more trouble in this tale. A little girl still but dealing with lots of big girl issues
Who would have ever thought that a ten year old could be a badass. I love Kellie's resolve. I love how resourceful she is, and I love the fact she still stays as innocent as possible throughout the zombie apocalypse. An amazing and addictive read.
Although it touched on some hard things that no one likes to mention (sexual or physical abuse) I do really like the POV of this story. Keep going girl.
More intriguing than the first one but I did feel like there were plot holes. Especially with how much she writes and like thrice she got interrupted but survived? Maybe I’m just nitpicking.
I was glad to find the next book in this series picking up pretty much right where the last one left off. Plus it's still written in the journal format that the last one was.

The parts of the first book that I loved are still here, we have a young child who is surviving the zombie apocalypse with her wits. She doesn't know how to fight or to drive a car, so her only real option to fight these zombies is to either run away or hide from them. In this book she decides to get on her bicycle and head toward her grandfather's house.
Also while she is traveling she comes across people who are not so nice and who are nice and want to help her. The book ends with her with a group of people who can keep her safe and they also have a person there she is very happy to see.
So Kellie turns 10 and is still surviving on her own. My problem with this book is the lack of people and how "lucky" Kellie is in this story. I gave it the benefit for the first book but I'm sorry there is no way she could have survived this long.
I'm really beginning to enjoy the story now. I am so impressed with this kid, even though it's a fictitious story. Nonetheless, the girl is so admirable. Can't wait to get to book 3.
