EDIT: If you love D&D and anime...this book is for you. Lots of action, adventure, nakama/found family, humour, a splash of romance. Still some dark themes like my first book, but a lot more light-hearted moments woven in.
I haven't even shared the blurb for this book, but I'm already sharing here that I've finished editing ahhh!
Really keen to share this book. It was stressful but so much fun to write!
Overall this book is a great read and I enjoyed reading it a lot. It draws you in right from the start, each different character adds a new layer to your understanding about the events of the book, and all of these characters have elements about them that are relatable, the pacing of this book is fairly fast and there are some events which seem to be skimmed over - however the pace still allows for good comprehension and in some ways enhances the reading experience as you are not being overloaded with details that won't end up mattering very much. The christian aspects of this book adds yet another dimension to this book, while not as immediatly noticeable as it is in 'Terra' the deeper you look into the characters and events the more connections you find.
The cover of this book immediatly makes you want to read it the colours and the figure on the front page creates intrigue and helps to set the tone of the book well - it also helps to put a visual image to a certain species mentioned in the book which I found very helpful.
Being a standalone book it doesn't require you to read the previous book (Terra) and therefore doesn't mention many of the characters in that book, it shows the world of Tempus from the perspective of other people groups and allows the reader to have a deeper understanding of the world itself. The world and the characters in it are very well established, which allows for easy reading and comprehension.
It is written in a unique way that draws you into the story immediatly, making you feel immersed in the world. The change in perspective isn't always obvious, however once you pick up on it, the book remains fairly easy to read.
All the characters in this book are extremely well written and all have aspects about them that makes them relatable, which makes the book a really fun and engaging read as your perspective on the world and the events isn't limited to a particular characters view, because you are able to relate to all of them many characters shape your understanding and perspective on the events of the book.

Stepping into a rich and unique fantasy world is always a refreshing escape - but so is Solofoni's confidence as a writer to let the story and the characters showcase the rich setting she's built, rather than bog the reader down in lengthy exposition that distracts from the action.
The story itself is propelled by rich and deep characters, and I was quickly swept up in their story of friendship, faith and a deeply personal quest to help their dying world.
The group of misfits saving the day trope that is so fun at a TTRPG table is played out across the story - but none of the characters feels like a thin trope themselves. The friendships and even romance between them feel 'lived in', and so their story is one that I loved walking along in.
A good unique story with a plethora of characters and events. A nice balance of light and dark. I liked the character development and the relationships they built with each other. I loved the "horror" scenes!
She is fated to be ruler but she will need help of others a group of misfits to be the ruler she needs to be. Things will change when she runs away from it all. Why has she gone? What will they find out? Will she come back to rule? See what is going to happen I received an advance copy from hidden gems and I want to review

It’s so lovely to be back in this world after only a year! This is a standalone book, and does not revisit many of the characters from the last novel, Terra. Instead we get to meet a new bunch of characters who are navigating their way to support a young leader, Sora. These characters are well established and engaging. It’s a delight to join them on their adventure as they face danger in many forms.
Sora is the second book in the Tempus series of novels and I enjoyed it even more than the first (Terra), which is also a really good read. On the surface it is fast paced and action packed as a ragtag group of misfits are tasked to protect Sora. Read a little deeper and it is about perseverance, tolerance and the desire to serve something bigger than ourselves. It is a truly unique and enjoyable read. I rate it 4.5 and recommend for anyone 13+.

I thought that this book was amazing. It had a complex, layered storyline woven with emotion and beauty. I loved the relationships and ties between all the characters and the beautiful friendships that they have with one another.
Plotline The plotline was complex and it felt tricky to navigate at the beginning, but after reading further, the confusion faded and the plotline turned into a complex, rich adventure that I couldn’t resist. I loved it when the book transported me back in time, seeing the backstories of all the characters come to life.
I loved meeting Wairua with her boldness and fierce behaviour. She was a real hero in my opinion. The rivalry between her and Esther was so funny to watch. I loved seeing Esther constantly fighting on and not being swayed by what others think, continuing in her runology. I love how she is determined, holding on to her beliefs without swaying but I feel that that was a big problem when it came to following One.
Matthew and Luke were great. I loved when Matthew met Luke for the first time and how Matt said, “Do you want to give to me, and I’ll give to you?” - pg 235 It was so funny watching Luke’s reaction to this question.
Riku was great, but I didn’t connect to him as much as the others. The others were more developed than he was but he was still an amazing midget to have on the team. I found that the switching between characters was amazing for seeing the plot from all perspectives, but it means that there isn’t as strong a connection as the one in Terra, although I still connected and loved all the characters.
Theological Links I really enjoyed the conversion of Wairua, Esther and Riku. They all were so brilliant and valiant. It was so heartbreaking as Noam died that that was the time that Wairua converted. It made me feel sad for Noam that he didn’t get to share in the joy of teaching her about his faith.
I also loved the part where Agnus rises from the dead and the heavy Christian influence on this part. I will talk more about it in the “Ending” section of this review.
Romance I was so intrigued and alert with Noam’s and Wairua’s love. It broke my heart when Rue didn’t even try to learn about Scriptura until the end. I was devastated when Noam died and felt so sorry for Rue. This romance was so bittersweet and sparked so many emotions.
Another beautiful romantic connection was the hilarious one between Matt and Adelyn. As soon as they started their relationship of uttermost rivalry, I was sure that this would be one of those classic, ironic love stories. I loved watching their dislike for each other turn into a realisation of their love. This was another hilarious romance that I enjoyed. Ending I loved the ending soooo much!!!! I loved the conversion of Rue and the heavy links of Agnus’ resurrection to Jesus' resurrection. The last chapter made me so happy as I watched the events play out. I felt a great sense of joy when Rue finally got her kulokula removed from her, her suffering finally eased because of Agnus. This ending was one of the best endings that I have ever seen in a book. I loved how Agnus sets out for Terra at the end of Sora, it made me feel so happy to see that link to Terra and desperately yearned for her liberation.

We join five heros in the world of Tempus which is full of magic runes and dragons- as well as some interesting machines called magictech. This is the second novel set in the Tempus universe and follows the effects of the first book, Terra, but with a new focus for the main characters. Matthew, the young leader. His adoptive sister Wairua, the muscle. Luke, the blind monk. Esther, the runologist. And Riku, the fighter. These five form a tight-knit family on a quest to help the holy Sora on behalf of Agnus Dayton, who was said to have died two spells ago but will return to help those in need if Matt and his friends help make it happen.
The cover of Sora draws in the reader instantly, and the writing style hooks them in for the ride, really showcasing the author's love for anime and video games. The easy banter between the main five is really charming. They are a diverse group, in both ability and race, but find comfort in one another in a way only a family can. Each one of these characters are fully fleshed out, they have clear goals for their future that aren't necessarily plot related which really helps build them as people. Solofoni helps the reader understand these characters' motivations by constantly dipping back and forth through time, giving contexts to why a character reacts the way they do or what has brought them to their current situation.
A really lovely aspect of this book is the map at the beginning, which helps the reader build a clearer image of where the characters are! Also the fact that the world of Tempus has its own way of counting the years (e.g. spells) as a lot of fantasy authors fall into the habit of using our world's days or months or years to describe the passing of time. Solofoni also includes an appendices and glossary/pronunciation guide which really shows how much work she has put into building this world!
Whilst the writing of this book does draw the reader in, it is sometimes a bit jarring with the switches in points of view. There is no indication of when it is switching and although it doesn't take too much away from the enjoyment of the story, it is something that really stuck out for me. But truthfully, any book that can induce tears by the end is definitely worth the read!
🗡Epic Fantasy Adventure🐉 ⛰Rich World Building🌏 💪Strong Character Development🙋🏼♀️ 👥Multiple POVs👥 😭Emotional and Heartfelt🥰
SORA is a unique and engaging continuation of the Tempus Series, I love a complex plot and Sora did not disappoint - sucking me in from the very beginning! I was so glad to be back in this fantasy world and sad to see it end again.
The third person POV allowed me to fully immerse myself within the the intricate and detailed world building the author created, which in my opinion enhanced the whole reading experience, bringing the fantasy book world to life.
HIghly recommend to readers young and old who love fantasy adventures.
A lot of building and intrigue. And a book with dragons is rarely a bad book :). So much trial and error with these characters and the way they work through it. Really a great story.
