This is, in my opinion, Delaney Diamond's best. And that's saying something. LOVED. IT. Smiled, laughed, even got a little hot and bothered at points and then it was over, dammit. I could go on and on, quoting the passages that made me smile, laugh and the ones that made me look over my shoulder to ensure no one saw what I was reading, but suffice it to say that I was incredibly pleased, but not at all surprised by how much I loved this book.
Since I've spent many long hours rhapsodizing about how Delaney writes romance, I won't do so again. But the one thing I will say about this book that deserves highlighting: Delaney knows how to write strong, assertive, painfully attractive and even aggressive men who NEVER cross the line into the territory of the cartoonishly Aplha male (ugh, so many of those in romance today, its ridiculous) who, though sexy, probably needs to have a restraining order served on him. She understands what seems to escape some other writers -- that there's a point at which that becomes unattractive. I'll pretty much read anything she writes.
The Wrong Man was another one of those little gems that you're not expecting to like all that much but you give a try anyway! I'm pleasantly happy that I did! Tomas and Talia's story was a scorching hot one. It was a different take on the billionaire saves the poor broken girl as well, which was refreshing. Talia is an African-American woman who comes from a privileged upbringing. Her grandmother raised her in the wake of her parents death and she has extremely high standards and expectations of Talia. When she discovers that Talia is getting divorced from her "perfect on paper" husband she is none to happy and attempts to spoil the happiness that Talia begins to find with Tomas. Tomas is from Cuba and is all alone in the US besides the friends that he has made. He is a player and always ready to bed the next willing participant. He knows Talia through their mutual friends and when she wants a no strings attached fwb relationship he is all about it... until he starts to develop feelings for her. They have a lot of misunderstandings. They come from totally different worlds. They do not match up on paper, with societies expectations, or in what they expected to want for themselves... but love is love and if these two can navigate their differences they are bound to make a connection neither one of them will be able to walk away from!
Did I mention it's scorch the sheets hot, as well??? ;D
I'm so happy I've found this little gem! Everything was on point. Both Tomas Molina (our hot Cuban hero) and Talia Jackson (our beautiful, rich intelligent and classy African-American heroine) were well rounded characters with so much depth.
Their differences: class, race, culture doesn't matter because love sees the world through rainbow colours!
Tomas is a Construction foreman from Cuba, he is single and loves playing the field and that's just how he likes it. Talia is an ad executive from a privileged background who just came out of a 10 year marriage that was going nowhere so she is not looking for serious attachment. They both know each other through mutual friends.
When Tomas and Talia give into their attraction to each other their passion burns out of control and suddenly Tomas realises he wants much more than this... He wants Talia.
I really loved reading this book and can't wait read more from this author.
This was an excellent read. I am always skeptical of novella length romance novels but I was really impressed by how well Delaney conveyed Tomas and Talia's relationship and their chemistry. They were burning up the pages!
As for the relationship between Maybeth and Talia, my heart went out to her. Her grandmother really did a number on her self esteem. I was glad that things worked out so beautifully for her in the end. :-)
This was totally Awesome! I absolutely loved this fast-paced Interracial tale of lust, love, and resolution... Well developed characters, loads of drama, and lots of "caliente" romance! This book makes me want to meet my own "Tomas" one day (soon...)
OMGGG!!!!!!! I LOVEEEE TOMASSSS!!!! What a great, great story. Delaney Diamond did the darn thing with this story. Tomas is everything, arrogant, boastful, conceited LOL!!! But what he is, a man on a mission to claim the woman of his heart. Talia may have thought this was something to do for a boost to her battered self esteem after her divorce but once she ran into the Category 5 Tornado aka Tomas, her life would never be the same.
Fantastic story all the way through to the end. I look forward to reading more by this author. I read "The Blind Date (Love Unexpected) which is also a brilliant read.
I was thoroughly CAUGHT UP in the hot SPICY tension between Tomas and Talia...Tomas brought out the FIRE in Talia...he's DEFINITELY the perfect man for her...I like that he wasn't afraid to speak his mind to her or her interfering mean-spirited grandmother, Maybeth...she was an AWFUL woman...just terrible the way she treated Talia...I ENJOYED the 2nd book in the Love Unexpected series...a too short very SEXY read!
I must admit I was expecting a little more grit and less polish (more Chicago, less Miami, per se) but none the less a good novel that isn't as tumultuous as I have grown to expect. My first Delaney Diamond read and I wasn't the least bit disappointed by the development of Talia's character - one that I believe most women can relate to. Bravo, Ms Diamond.
I'm so glad her books are now available on audio. I liked the narrator. I really liked Tomas. I also liked what he told Talia at the quinceanera. But wait, her gran-ma, though. That woman was a bitch much, I mean a bit much. I enjoyed this read and I wasn't ready for it to be over.
I read this book back in 2015 before I joined goodreads. I LOVED IT and wanted to leave my 5 star rating since I just finished reading the Book 5 of this series.
The Wrong Man is a story about two people who are totally different from each other, Talia Jackson comes from a family that has high expectations of her and any man she plans to date or even marry. Tomas Molina is a Blue collar worker and is definitely not the man that Talia family wants her involved with.
This was a steamy read and very predictable. I think what pulled me in was that I felt like I already knew what was going to happen but I wanted to see how it was going to play out with them being completely opposite of each other and deal with the strong attraction that they obviously had for each other but tried to deny it. The storyline flowed quite well and I was happy with ending.
Talia and Tomas have mutual friends, but these two are basically always at one another's throats. The are more what I would call frenemies.
Then he finds out she's single, comes to her rescue in an awkward moment, and what was once them bantering their somewhat dislike, turned into them burning up the sheets.
It's obvious that the dislike they were feeling was just masking an attraction that they can finally act on. Which is why that attraction turns into more. Tomas thinks he doesn't do monogamy, but he's just been waiting for the woman for the job to become available.
Things are not magically easy between them since the have to deal with jealousy, people disapproving of them being together, Talia's ex and Tomas' "friends".
I really like Ms. Delaney’s writing. There’s something crisp and no nonsense about it that also deftly manages to be sophisticated and nuanced. The story is about Talia and Tomas. At first, I had a hard time relating to either of these protagonists.
Tomas, a.k.a Senor Hottie McHotpants, was bombastic, pushy, and annoying in that he liked to press the heroine’s buttons gratuitously. Talia on the other hand seemed like someone who not only lacked courage and conviction but often couldn’t seem to get out of her own way emotionally. I was unsure for the early parts of the book how Ms. Diamond would manage to not only bring these two on track but make me root for them. That journey was part of what made the book interesting for me. The transformation both characters make is slow but definitive and when they were finally on the same inevitable path it was explosive, carnal, and thoroughly enjoyable.
The one character that rang a little too one dimensional for me was the Grandmother, Maybeth Livingstone (great name btw). I would’ve liked to see Maybeth’s inherent brittleness crumble a little earlier in the book even if only for a short time before she was back to being a mean b.o.w. again. Not sure but maybe an early scene between her and Tomas would have rounded it out more for me and definitely taken a chip off her shoulder. That might’ve made the transformative scene for Talia and Maybeth seem a little less neat too.
This story is part of a series and features two of my favorite characters from another book, Shawna and Ryan from The Blind Date. It was terrific seeing those characters again and having them play key roles in this story. Looking forward to more from this series and suspect Ms. Delaney will always have something on my TBR list.
This book was in a word...Amazing!!! I loved Tomas!!! He was sexy, confident, and even a little bit demanding...which of course I loved!!! I really enjoyed the playful banter between him and Talia. You could tell there was an attraction there that neither one wanted to admit to. Even though the two of them were so different they were able to open up and accept one another. Now I really disliked Maybeth. The way she was always taking pieces out of Talia had me gritting my teeth and willing Talia to go off on her. This book had me laughing and swearing. It also had me reaching for my ice water. The scene in the stairwell...DAMN!! Tomas was definitely a ladies man who could back up his cocky attitude. It was awesome to see him put aside his player ways and give in to the power of love. And Talia was a woman who in finding love was able to find herself and take control of her life. In my opinion Tomas was the right kind of wrong!! Best book I've read from this author to date!! Great job!!
I loved this novel. I couldn't but it down and currently looking for other novels by Delanely. The story line was not typical and had relateable aspect of parents (grandmother) being overtly controlling.I especially in Tomas, not his looks though they were steamy but his personality really speaks to that bad boy attitude. But when a player falls in love and becomes the strong man you need him to be, or when he is powerful enough to shush you and make you feel as if you are the most beautiful woman in the world without it being a cheesy "damn you fine," or "can't to some of that booty." It was really well written and if only more "players" were like Tomas. YOU SHOULD READ THIS NOVEL :)
5.00 stars. I loved this story, the author did a splendid job in penning this work. Tomas Molina, a Cuban America construction foreman and "player" starts an affair with Talia Jackson, a Black American executive and divorcee. The two usually engage in flirtatious banter and insult until Tomas comes to Talia's aide and defense against her ex-husband when he and his girlfriend crash Talia's best friend's house warming. Following that incident, the two enter into a casual affair turns to love. Talia's grandmother objects because she feels Tomas is socially beneath Talia. Ultimately, the couple's love for each other prevails and they get their HEA.
The Wrong Man is the second book in the Love Unexpected Series. This book was fantastic. I got so into Tomas and Talia I was late to a meeting! The angst in Talia’s life and how she reacts to it, combined with the issues in Tomas’ upbringing and how he chose to embrace it was a combination to enjoy. To see how they come together and depend upon each other and make each other’s lives complete was great. Definitely a case of opposites attract. My favorite part was the ending and what happened with the grandmother (I’m not saying anymore so as not to give a spoiler). Thanks Ms. Diamond for an enjoyable read.
Loving The sexiest man alive where is People magazine because Tomas should be in there ! The passion between Tomas and Talia was so intense I feel it flowing off the pages of the book. I put my hand up and covered my mouth because I wanted a man like him. I wondered why is he the wrong man he seems like the right man to me. Love how the characters naturally progressed into their relationship it felt real and was a pleasure to read. I can not wait to see who falls in love next. I have one request can your books be longer ,because I always hate for them to end.
I really enjoyed this read from Delaney Diamond. Tomas and Talia were smokin hot! I knew as much as they had their tit for tats they were going to be on fire once they got down to it. I loved how Tomas cracked Talia's hard shell because although she didn't think it she really was pretty cold. I think everything was packed into a nice small package, but I really want to read a full length book from Delaney, like 250 plus pages. Her characters are so well written that I often am left wanting more so I just wish the stories were a bit longer. Other than that this was a good read.
I loved Talia's and Tomas's story so much. Delaney Diamond is gifted with the ability to capture the complexity of relationships in a such a simplified manner. Her writing style is so smooth! I love it. You can look forward to enjoying how she makes opposites attract while delving into issues of class, family, and insecurity placed against the canvas of rich back-story details vividly painted. I love the chemistry that she builds between this couple, they draw you in and make you fall in love with them! Great story!
This story is so well written and my goodness do I love me some Tomas!! I highly recommend! My review and the reason why I enjoyed this book so much are coming soon. In the meantime 4 very solid stars that are bordering on a five for me.
I enjoyed reading this book, there was never a dull moment. This was my first book by this author and I am excited to read other books by her. I recommend this book to anyone who love a steamy romance.
This was love at first sight they met when he was trying to be a player player and she was married to someone else. Their instant attraction had them fighting and falling in love at the same time. Delaney Diamond you have done it again.
I'm just a bit critical considering my own hispanic background and knowing other hispanic cultures. But other than small cultural details, it was a fun to read story.
