Lazy Witchcraft for Crazy, Sh*tty Days: Easy Spells and Rituals for When You’re Stressed Out, Wiped Out, or Just Have No More Spoons to Give

Rate this book
Discover how to do witchcraft the lazy way with this self-care-promoting book of super-easy spells and rituals for days when you’re feeling stressed, burned out, or just generally sh*tty.

Traditional witchcraft is a lot of work and some days you just need to do things the lazy way. After all, everyone gets tired sometimes. Some of us get tired a lot. In Lazy Witchcraft for Crazy Sh*tty Days, Andrea Samayoa from the popular TikTok handle MoonStreetKits, is going to show you how to do witchcraft even when you’re really, really tired. Or sick. Or burnt out. Or just had a really crappy day.

Andrea’s approach to witchcraft is rooted in making things as easy as possible, so you can continue to do magic even when you don’t have a lot of spoons to give. The book is divided into six chapters, each of which focuses on a different kind of magic, including:

Self-Care: Rituals, spell jars, and enchantments to help you go from feeling blah to feeling like the radiant magical being you are.
Focus + Energy: Teas, shaker jars, oils, and mini rituals that give you energy instead of taking it out of you.
Protection + Warding: Everything from basic protections during spell-casting to full-on warding from a**hole energy vampires.
Manifestation: Literally the easiest manifestation work you will ever do.
And more!

Each spell or ritual is rated according to the number of “spoons” it takes to perform, and yes, that does include zero-spoon options (for the REAL bad days). The book will also feature Andrea’s best witch tips for divination, bulk recipes, herbs, ingredient/item substitutions, and more.

Fun, irreverent, and gorgeously illustrated, Lazy Witchcraft for Crazy, Sh*tty Days is the easiest witchcraft book you will ever buy. It’s perfect for beginners, young practitioners, or any witch who’s ever struggled to find the magic inside themselves on a really bad day.

A great, lighthearted witchy book for those of us who don’t have the time/spoons for complex craft.

I found this book easy to digest and follow.

I particularly loved the zero-spoon spells, it shows you can incorporate the craft in simple ways. The spells/rituals also have a “spoon rating” which is so useful too.

There’s substitution lists for if you don’t have what the spell/ritual calls for and plenty of information if you’re new to crystals/herbs/moon phases etc.

The ingredient requirements do vary from minimal to quite a lot (possibly too much for some of us) but with the substitution lists and variety, there’s something for everyone.

I loved the laid back, lighthearted tone of the book.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

"Yes, everything is on fire, but, bitch, I got this"

This book is filled with practical tips, attainable goals, and witty writing. Just what I need in a book that's helping me to be a better me!
I loved the setting of attainable, day-to-day goals. The tips on centering/grounding yourself, staying mindful, and establishing meditative practices were super helpful. I've always struggled with settings intentions and getting caught up in complicating simple tasks, so I look forward to putting these tips and tutorials together!
Her descriptions of directions were both hilarious, simple, and very helpful. Don't get me started on the artwork in here, absolutely GORGEOUS. I didn't even realize I followed her on TikTok until after I got this ARC, and when I double checked myself, I remembered how much I love her videos, tips, and tricks! I'm having to reign myself in from buying a new journal (just write in the one you already have Taylor), but I can't wait to utilize the journaling recommendations and reflections. The prompts for manifesting what you want your life to look like in the future are amazing questions to ponder on and I'll definitely be writing in my journal about them later.

Thank you NetGalley, Fair Winds Press, and Andrea Samayoa for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

As someone who has wanted to look into some rituals, this book was excellent. I am anxious to try some of these. This book was so witty and well illustrated. I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy (instead of e-copy) so that I can truly dive in.

This book is really fun.
It looks at witchcraft but from a more 'easy-going' view. There are hints and tips, rather than set ways of doing things.

It is definitely is a great one for when you want to be witchy but the focus isn't quite there. As a 'spoonie' - and someone who really has to work hard to maintain my energy levels - this book would really really come in handy. I think it would be a great gift for someone who is only just beginning to dip their toe into the witchy and pagan world.

I liked how colourful this book is, the illustrations were really unique and fun. They would def help when having a 'sh*tty day'

Really unique concept - and I can see my self returning to this book for reference time and time again!

I received an e-copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you NetGalley for such an interesting read

Another disclaimer, I am not Wiccan, nor do I practice witchcraft. I was just super intrigued by this book and I find witchcraft incredibly intriguing, though I am usually too tired and poor to bother giving it a try. Thanks passion job and inflation...I hate you. lol I digress.

If you don't like some swears thrown into your reading like you're talking to someone working in the trades, you might not love this book. I personally wasn't bothered by it because it kind of felt more like someone was talking with you instead of to you as a result...and maybe I know a few people in the trades who talk like this.

Coming in as a person who has only really read one other book on witchcraft/spell casting, I found this book very educational. It seems like a book that would work for someone who has never tried witchcraft before, or for someone who is looking for a lazier way of doing so. The beginning of the book is filled with info about the types of things (in general) that you will need. Things like bowls, bottles, water water, sun water, coloured twine/rope, different coloured candles, etc. It was a lot of info to take in so I mitigated being overwhelmed by reading the first bit only on my lunch breaks.

Chapter 2 covers manifestation, "the process by which we bring our intentions into fruition, based on the premise that your thoughts create your reality." p. 33 The author does make the point that your don't need to be positive to the point of "toxic positivity." You can be sad, angry, tired or whatever so long as you have backup while doing spell work, the moon. Interesting concept, not sure I fully believe it, but I'm a born pessimist. Author goes so far as to quote Buddha, which I thought was, again, interesting. The author does say she is not a Wiccan, she doesn't follow the religion, that she only practices witchcraft. There are helpful tips and tricks for being successful at manifestation, including a list to help you aim your manifestation towards your goal.

The spells themselves range from near zero effort to rather involved. Considering she says that she didn't list anything that was too crazy, I dread to think what a complex and serious spell work might look like. I'm thinking Hermione in the bathroom at Hogwarts putting a month's worth of effort into brewing that potion. No thanks.

As a general outsider looking into this, what I did notice is that you will need an awful lot of stuff to get into witchcraft. Crystals, gemstones, herbs, plants, charcoal, flowers bags, bowls, twine, candles, maybe special paper, tarot cards...bark from certain trees. It's a lot of stuff. The author does list alternatives that might cut down the cost a bit, but still, you will a small wad of cash if you wish to truly get into witchcraft at a full level. And some stuff just can't be substituted in certain recipes/spells, like sandalwood.

The set up of each page was well done. Recipes and such were clear and very easy to read. Nothing was jammed together to save space so there was nothing distracting my eyes from what I was trying to read, which I appreciate cause my brain doesn't always like to focus at the task at hand. The artwork was beautiful. I actually spent quite a bit of time admiring some of it. Someone put a lot of care and attention into each picture.

Conclusion

Beautifully put together with some gorgeous artwork throughout, this is mostly a beginner friendly book (I think). Just be aware if you want to dive in head first, you're going to need a fair bit of stuff. I personally wouldn't mind trying my hand at some of the protection spells.

I'm giving this 4 stars (uh...spoons?) because:

A: It's pretty...and I am a BIG fan of pretty books and
B: Because it's very informative and (mostly) does a job of keeping things simple, because who TF has the time and ingredients and, well STUFF, to concoct a spell worthy of a million Instagram followers? (short answer: Not Me)

However...
Lots of stuff in here is too complicated for my minimalist ass. It's not that I'm too exhausted (well, that's mostly true) or that I don't give a Spoon (I take it the author's use of 'spoon' here is a euphemism for f*ck. Hmm). And the book IS pretty, like I said. It's simply too Extra for me. I mean, when it comes to witchy shit, I'm as minimalist as they come, arriving from the School that Intent is more important than Presentation. I'll grab a chopstick to stir Best Day Possible Vibes into my morning coffee while doing my best to (momentarily at least) ignore my three persistent cats who think they should be fed Right MEOW (Not to worry. I take care of the cats within 30 seconds! What kind of monster do you take me for?). Most of my stones come from outside, usually from walks down my gravel road, rather than specialty shops (although I DO own a handful of "authentic" crystals). Sometimes I'll just light a stick of incense or whatever candle I have on hand, regardless of color. Sometimes not even that. I need nothing but to focus my own energy. Because ceremony is overrated. At least for me.

But outside personal preferences, this is a great book. Fun and pretty and informative for beginners and advanced alike. And I do enjoy the author's snarky style.

Recommended.

p.s. If you love the fancy presentation and ceremony, by all means DO IT! And post it online. Because I adore looking at pics of that stuff.

Disclosure— I am not Wiccan, though I know a lot about the practice and have read a ton of books (I read a ton of books on everything). People I love are Wiccan. I was attracted to this book because I too get stressed out, wiped out and have sh*tty days, and I believe in the power of rituals from any faith.

That said, there was just way too much stuff needed and way too many steps for everything. You need so many types of crystals, specialty herbs, oils, equipment etc and then there are many specific steps. This would not work for me when I have few spoons, no matter how many times she says it in the book.

As an example, the four corner home protection charm bags require black salt, pink salt, white salt, four small cloth bags, Angelica, burdock root, rosemary, two small black obsidian tumbles, one smoky quartz and one tourmaline chunk, and then lots of steps to assemble it properly and put it where it goes.

Also, I can cuss like a sailor when the mood strikes me but it just felt like she made every other word a cuss word to seem cool. You really don’t need to say f*** that many times or call me a bitch conversationally to seem badass or likable.

This is a fun book and I enjoyed the art. I did not think the majority of the content was easier than anything else out there, and do be prepared to buy a ton of stuff if you are new to the practice (and this is coming from someone with two china cabinets full of herbs and a house full of oils and crystals).

I read a temporary digital loan of this book for review.

LOVED this book! I'm a spoonie, I'm neurodivergent, and identify as a cottage witch but have not practiced, besides celebrating the solstices, for a few years due to illness and my energy level being permanently set to "meh".

This book was made for me! So much so I have requested.... actually DEMANDED it for Christmas from my hubby. Paper version too! Something I save for only the most special of books (or my house would be over run by them... more than it currently is by beads 😁).

It has the perfect, relaxed tone I need in self-help books right now. Sticks to the point without judgement or strict commands. There are rules and instructions given... but in a nice, friendly, chatting over a cuppa sort of way.

Being a 48 year old mum of teens, I'm aware of TikTok, but don't use it. So this book was my first introduction to Andrea. And I was a fan by the end of chapter 1! I did find it a tad sweary... but that's a me problem. I was a sweary person myself when younger, but it's not me anymore... which is why it's a me problem!

For the book nerd side of things: The book is well paced, the format was ebook friendly (not all books I review electronically are) and not only filled with wonderful advice, inspiration, and "we got this" friendship, but gorgeous illustrations too.

If I believed in societies need to categorise us by putting us in boxes - Lazy witchcraft ticked ALL of mine. Highly recommend, and I better get it for Christmas... or, as we call it here Litha!

Thanks @netgalley for the ARC!

I will say that this book has beautiful images to go along with all of the spells. I was taken aback at how beautiful the art was that accompanied this book. It was something that really drew me in.

I like the premise so much. Because sometimes you just don't have it in you to do all the things, all the time! And so why not do what you can and practice in the way that you can. As someone who lives with a partner with a chronic illness, love the idea of being able to do what you love without sacrificing. This book really spoke to me in the way that it allows practitioners to still do their art and with compromises for how it can be done . There is no one right way. And I love that about this book.

If you're looking for some quick and easy spells or even just to know if this is something that you need & how easy it could be. I would definitely pick up this book.

The author breaks it down very simply within her chapters. I particularly liked chapter 3 where she talks about banishing and protecting. But depending upon what your needs are, you might like her other chapters on manifestations, healing and self-love, focus and energy and finally money and abundance. There's something in here for everyone. I would recommend picking this up if you are interested in getting your feet wet and simple, easy spells for yourself and your household.

“Lazy Witchcraft for Crazy, Sh*tty Days” by Andrea Samayoa is an absolute gem! 🌟 As someone who often feels overwhelmed, I found this book to be a breath of fresh air. Andrea’s writing style is incredibly down-to-earth and relatable, making it easy to connect with her approach to witchcraft.

The spells and rituals are straightforward and simple to follow, perfect for those days when you’re feeling stressed or just don’t have the energy for anything complicated. Each spell is designed to be effective without requiring a lot of effort, which is exactly what I needed. The book is divided into sections that cover everything from self-care to protection, and each one is filled with practical tips and easy-to-do spells.

What I love most is how Andrea rates the spells based on the “spoons” it takes to perform them, acknowledging that some days we just don’t have much to give. This thoughtful touch makes the book accessible and compassionate, catering to both beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.

Overall, “Lazy Witchcraft for Crazy, Sh*tty Days” does the trick! It’s a must-have for anyone looking to incorporate a bit of magic into their lives without the hassle. Highly recommend!

As a dabbler in spells and ritual, a big turn off for me has always been the seemingly precious and gate-keepy way that practice has always been treated. As an open practice based on intention, the physically and mentally time consuming nature of setting up altars, calling the four corners etc. always seemed like a huge deterrent. What about people who do not have the resources (time, money, ability, focus)? The answer to that is this book and this style of practice.

Like a good beginner cookbook, this spellbook starts with the basics and makes magick accessible for anyone from anywhere. Recognizing that intention is what matters, Samayoa guides the reader though what one needs to know, gather and consider when casting. Using readily available spell ingredients and equipment (with safety always in mind) this book makes a fantastic reference for practitioners new and experienced. The pictures are lovely, the layout intuitive and easy to reference, the book is a treat just to read.

This book is an extremely useful and well-laid out guide to spells and magick for the those who may be time and energy poor or just needing a more relaxed and minimal method to help achieve their spiritual goals. Andrea covers everything you need to know from basics, correspondences and easy substitutions to a range of spells across topics including healing, self-love, protections, and energy. Each of these spells are accompanied by gorgeous watercolour style illustrations throughout and a 'spoon rating' which provides a measure of the amount of energy required for each spell. The book is written in a very laid back and witty manner, providing a calming and relaxed atmosphere, which is deeply contrasted to many other books on the market. I am excited to purchase a physical copy of this book once it is released and I hope that Andrea releases more books of a similar style in the future.

Thank you Fair Winds Press and Andrea Samayoa for an ARC of this gorgeous book!

A very voice-y book of spells largely aimed at feeling better in your own life and in your self. Easily explained although not as simple as the author would think (I had to Google several items mentioned by her that she considered to be super common/simple).

Absolutely gorgeously illustrated, I think that was the part I enjoyed the most. The artwork made the book feel special and perfect for the fall season.

If you've ever been interested in spells, witchcraft, intention setting, this seems like a good book to read and keep nearby and maybe little by little try a spell or two.

Thank you to Netgalley and Fair Winds Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I’ve followed Andrea Samayoa of Moon Street Kits on TT for a while now and was excited to see she was putting out a book. Imagine my surprise when it popped up on NetGalley! It was an instant download. So with that, thank you NetGalley and Fairwinds Press for the opportunity to read and review this book!

The illustrations are beautiful! I also love how blunt and to the point all the included information is along with keeping it simplistic for beginners.

I’m a long time fan of witchcraft books, and ones that are 1) catered to spoonies, 2) on a proverbial shoestring, and 3) lazy? Count me in.

I loved the spoons per recipe, and the layout was appealing, but this one didn’t really work for me. I don’t know if it was due, in part, to the awkwardly placed swear words, but I found it all a little cringe and wasn’t able to connect with the message (this isn’t anything against the book, it was me).

Thank you to Fair Winds Press and NetGalley for the PDF

This is a chronically ill pagan's best friend. The book is beautifully illustrated. It contains all of the useful charts you could imagine- what colors, crystals, and herbs to use for certain intentions, moon phases, etc. It even has adorable spoon level charts next to each spell!! For example, a super easy low-effort spell would be 1 spoon, but one which takes a lot of energy would be 4 spoons. I'm obsessed and will be recommending it to all of my witchy friends.

I chose to read this book out of sheer curiosity but it really was hard getting through it with all the swearing that is thrown in for no apparent reason, maybe I should have known with the swearing right on the cover but it never occurred to me that it would be used so often through the entire book. Just wasn’t for me. I thank Netgalley and Fair Winds Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I have always felt like everyone has a bit of magic inside them. My friends and I used to cast spells (usually love spells) every Halloween in my backyard. But now, as an adult, lazy witchcraft sounds perfect! The spells and rituals are all easy and the ingredients are easy to find. The drawings are peaceful and vibrant.
