"I thought about how much history I must be passing by on a daily basis without knowing it."

I follow Tommy Silk on Instagram (@LandmarksofNY), and I truly enjoy his posts. He has incredible knowledge about the buildings of New York City, with interesting stories behind them. His research is impeccable. Over the years, he was compelled to put all of this information into his first book, which is absolutely beautiful. Here, he presents the history of landmarked buildings that are relatively unknown. The photos are stunning, and the history is fascinating! I pre-ordered this book months before it was available. Tommy also provides walking tours of the city, and I plan on joining one the next time I'm in NYC.

Fun book about historical landmark buildings in NYC. Goes by borough by bourough; interesting stories about old / older / oldest buildings in NYC. Like the Lillian Ward Mansion - which would look like a set piece for HBO's The Gilded Age. Also was a building that a DC-8 crashed into in 1960 and became famous as the house with a plane tail sticking out of it.

Easy read; interesting - and will give me a couple of places to look up on future trips to NYC; a city to walk if there ever was one.

During Covid lockdown the Instagram algorithm introduced me to a page featuring photos of beautiful buildings in New York City, @LandmarksofNY. In addition to the photos were descriptions of architecture, history, and a bit of sociology. I looked forward to daily postings and was ablr to keep sane. This beautiful book is written by the page's author and features some of the most important and beautiful buildings and neighborhoods in the City.

A wonderful book.

Good introduction and definitely a quick read (~3hrs). Most of the "landmarks" introduced are famous people's residences and I am more interested in architectural details. Don't regret reading it though.

A fantastic read of the history of some of NYC's lesser known landmarks and oldest buildings. Made me excited to visit the city and look for these buildings myself.
