Finding undiscovered treasures is always daring, dangerous, and deadly in these action-packed novellas starring sexy archeologists, feisty treasure hunters, and tough former Navy SEALs on the hunt for two priceless Incan emeralds.
THE EMERALD TEAR: ambitious archeologist Oliver Ward leads a dig in the wild jungles of Ecuador and collides with feisty, independent treasure hunter Persephone.
Oliver Ward loves getting his boots dirty on fascinating digs, and investigating strange ruins in Ecuador is no exception. When bandits threaten his team, a small, tough treasure hunter bursts into his world to save the day. He finds himself captivated by the bright, vibrant Persephone Blake. Pulled into a wild and dangerous treasure hunt for a lost Incan emerald, the two of them are drawn to each other. And they discover it isn’t just treasure on the line, but their hearts as well.
THE EMERALD BUTTERFLY: former Navy SEAL Diego Torres finds himself helping the one woman who drives him crazy—the DEA agent who boarded his ship and handcuffed him.
After a bad mission ended his career as a SEAL, Diego Torres found a new love captaining his salvage ship, the Storm Nymph. As he begins his vacation, he’s expecting solitude and Florida sunsets, not the arrival of the gorgeous DEA agent who boarded his ship several months before. And he really wasn’t expecting an underwater expedition in search of a shipwreck holding a priceless Incan emerald. Agent Sloan McBride’s has promised her dying grandfather that she’ll find the Emerald Butterfly, and she needs Diego’s help to do it.
I’m a USA Today bestselling romance author who’s passionate about fast-paced, emotion-filled romantic suspense and science-fiction romance. I love writing about people overcoming unbeatable odds and achieving seemingly impossible goals. I like to believe it’s possible for all of us to do the same.
I love hearing from readers and you can find me on Facebook, Instagram and my website: www.annahackett.com
The author hasn’t released stories recently set in her Treasure Hunter series so I was very pleased to see she hadn’t forgotten them . This particular book is two stories in one volume and the first The Emerald Tear takes us right back to the beginning when the parents of the Ward siblings first met in hot and steamy Ecuador. It’s easy to see that Persephone is a wild, free spirited and passionate individual but don’t discount Oliver because although perhaps more studious if there’s a fight to be fought you can rely on that gorgeous man ! The second story brings us bang up to date with a couple of characters who were instrumental previously in helping Treasure Hunter Security. Diego has not forgotten the agent who handcuffed him and gets the shock of his life when she turns up asking him to help her uncover a ship wreck. It just so happens to be a very welcome surprise and it’s clear that no matter how tough or resourceful Sloan is being with Diego lights up all her buttons! Now if they could just get the treasure safely recovered perhaps there would be time to explore exactly what they are both feeling but alas they are not alone in searching for the Emerald Butterfly and their opposition doesn’t care who gets hurt ! I loved that although this journey involving priceless emeralds begins in the first story it’s finished in the second which made it feel complete. What surprised me was the fact that these two stories are pure unadulterated action, romance and good old fashioned fun. The reason I’m surprised is because quite often the author imbues her artefacts with almost supernatural powers and this time she let the adventure and hot romance have all the limelight. Oh and I must point out if you want to know what’s happening with the rest of the Ward family and in particular Darcy and a certain arrogant and annoying agent you really don’t want to miss this book. This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
‘Unidentified’ is Anna Hackett’s double romance within a novella, so make that 2 very short vignettes tucked neatly into a normal ‘Hackett-sized’ book. I’ll admit that I have my doubts about the short length of each story, wondering how Hackett would juggle the action-packed adventure with the eroticism written in for both couples.
But these 2 stories feel very much like side helpings in some ways, like a comet’s short burst of magical brilliance that’s ephemeral: full of treasure-hunting Indiana-Jones style goodness but thin on the romance (though copious on the sex). Oliver and Persephone Ward’s story made me do the side-eye look; knowing that they are the parents of the protagonists of the first 3 books in the series made me a little squeamish—akin to watching or reading about your parents having sex in the 70s porny style—about this couple and their romantic connection. I took to Diego/Sloan’s story somewhat better given their short but hostile(ish) history, yet finished the entire book with some scepticism about the ‘same-ish’ feel that this series has, seeing as it was a repeat about finding a treasure (the goal), beating the bad guys, and then riding happily into the sunset together.
In short, the fun times are there in ‘Unidentified’, especially if you’re looking for a short, short read with some thrills and can sort of brush off the instant-lust type of romance that’s formed in the heat of the moment.
This is actually two novellas that are linked by the treasure the protagonists pursue. They both contain fun action, vivid settings, and a thorough dose of lust. If you like archaeology, this series shows that off. The main characters are better drawn and easy to root for. The baddies are a bit paint-by-numbers, so your mileage may vary there. I received a review copy.
Unidentified: The Emerald Tear / The Emerald Butterfly (Treasure Hunter Security, #7) series and it has it all. Action, suspense, mystery, danger, romance are just some of what to expect when diving into one of Anna's books. The treasure hunters are called upon when protection is needed and ancient artifacts are sort after but they go into alpha mode when trying to protect. But let's not forget the sexy, alpha men and women who protect and find their someone else even though they are players beforehand. It's just as good the second time as the first time I read it.
Pulse pounding adventure and heartstring pulling romance all in one!
If you love action-adventure romance than you never need to look any further than Anna Hackett. The two novellas that comprised this book were chock full of adrenaline-surging antics, death-defying acts of bravery, lust-inducing heros, and heroines, fights and shoot-outs to satisfy any action fan, toe-curling romance, and to top it all off; brains. Brains galore. I LOVE the amount of research and feasibilty that goes into the Treasure Hunter Security series. I LOVE that the characters all have brains they use. That doesnt mean they all have the same skill set, it just means none of them are stupid and that is so tantalizing in a novel. It also means the author rocks the heck outta using her brain! Kudos!
Okay, the stories. In novella one we finally get to see how the Ward kids' parents met. And clashed. And rocked each others world. This story was everything I had hoped it could be and more!
Novella two finds Diego Torres and Sloane MacBride faced off again, this time without a warrant. Sparks flew, guns blazed, treasure was hunted, and these two strong characters won my heart.
Gosh, I SERIOUSLY cant stop fangirling over these stories, or recommending them enough!! Its a must-read plain and simple.
There are two wonderfully well-written and exciting stories to read in this book and both have intriguing storylines. I thoroughly enjoyed reading both of them and they kept me totally enthralled throughout. This is certainly a book I would have no hesitation in recommending.
Review For: Emerald Tear
At 31-years old, Oliver is living his dream and couldn’t be happier. Currently in Ecuador, Oliver knew there were fascinating Inca sites waiting to be discovered. History excites him, but too many people were interested in his dig; what is so special about this one? 26-year old Persephone is in Tena, a town that has grown, lured by intrepid adventures into the Amazon. Persephone can speak a smattering of half-a-dozen languages and had spent most of her formative years in South and Central America, while her father had worked mining, or oil and gas jobs. Her mother, Athena Blake, only did things that suited her. Persephone has no time for men and never lets a man get an advantage over her; but with Oliver it’s different. As a Treasure Hunter, Persephone works alone and has dreams; a photocopy of a page out of a handwritten diary is the key to her achieving these. Persephone is following the clues in the diary and they have led her to Oliver’s dig site; to a city on a hill and lost to the jungle, but she isnt the only one in pursuit of the same treasure. Oliver is angry that Persephone is in the jungle alone and would put herself in so much danger for the slimmest chance of finding treasure. Oliver agrees to work with Persephone on the proviso she sells the emerald to him. As they head down river, they are attacked, but escape into the jungle and try to obsecure their trail. Even with everything they have faced over the last few hours Oliver had never felt so alive with this wild, vibrant woman. Oliver was well aware that Persephone lived her life on her own terms and depended on no one. It was one of the things he admired about her, but he also wants her to trust him and to depend on him. Oliver feels a surge of exhilaration when they eventually find the entrance to the mine. Oliver’s job was usually made up of small wins and discoveries, but this was huge and he understood what had attracted Persephone to becoming a Treasure Hunter. They were stuck on a narrow path when a sudden burst of gunfire shatters the quiet. Henry Acton and his men had followed them all the way, but Persephone has the one thing he doesn’t, the final clue. Persephone is certain that Oliver hates her right now for what she is planning, but she will do whatever it takes to get him out of there alive. Will her plan work and what will this mean for their future?
Review For: Emerald Butterfly
It has been two years since Diego left the Navy and his family didn’t have a clue about the things he had done, seen and the friends he had lost; he knew he would never forget, or be the man he had been before. Now with 2-weeks vacation to look forward to, Diego is a happy man, but if his family found out he was docked in the harbor they would pester him relentlessly. A research and salvage vessel, the Storm Nymph is all his, and he often did work with THS and their clients when it involved underwater expeditions. Now Darcy has an important job for him and she wants someone she can trust. Sloan’s grandfather, Ben, is dying of cancer and doesn’t have long to live. All his life Ben has searched for an Incan jewel called the Emerald Butterfly; Sloan thinks she knows where it might be and her wish is for Ben to hold it before he dies. The sterncastle of the Atocha is out there somewhere, unidentified and waiting to be found. The last time Diego saw Sloan, a DEA agent, she had been in a hurry to stop a large drug shipment from leaving Miami; she had boarded his ship and slapped handcuffs on him. Diego didn’t look pleased to see Sloan, but she was a woman who worked in a male dominated profession and she had never let a scowling, rugged face deter her before; Diego isn’t classically handsome but perfect had never been that attractive to Sloan. Sloan has been working on a computer programme to help her find the sterncastle of the Atocha and needs Diego’s help to locate it and bring the Emerald Butterfly up. But why does Diego feel like there is a catch? When Sloan mentions Silk Road, and they are then attacked, everything becomes clearer. A bullet grazes Diego’s arm in a skirmish and Sloan cleans it up, although she hates her little weakness, the one she hides ruthlessly from her colleages. Diego has fantasised about Sloan for months, ever since she first boarded his ship and handcuffed him, but for now he has a job to focus on. The silence between Diego and Sloan is companionable; most women he knew felt compelled to fill any quiet with words, especially his Mama and sisters. Sloan gets the sense that Diego is a lone sea wolf and that his ship is his only family; so why did he keep his family at bay? Sloan had lost her parents when she was 13-years old and now she is about to lose her grandfather; she wouldn’t mind if she had a loud, noisy, nosy family, which only makes Diego feel guilty. There is so much more to Diego than the angry loner Sloan had pegged him to be when they had first clashed; there is an electric attraction between them. Diego sets up Poseidon, a ROV, to run a search grid, but Sloan believes her assumptions on the windspeeds might be off, putting them too far east. Sloan is right and on their next trip out they definitely find the rest of the Atocha and have a workable salvage plan. Silk Road again board the boat; this time on a sabotage mission, but attacking Sloan in the process. The hunt for the Emerald Butterfly, Silk Road and losing her grandfather were all taking a toll on Sloan and Diego has a sudden urge to protect her from it all, but if there is anyone who can take care of herself it is Sloan; nevertheless, they need backup. Another dive is made and more artifacts are uncovered, but when a reef shark slices through the water and bumps into Sloan, her fins dig a shallow hole in the seabed and nestled in the centre is the Emerald Butterfly. Moved by the moment, this wasn’t just about treasure for Sloan. Diego had never wanted to keep a woman before, but smart, tough, sexy Sloan who loved her grandfather was one of a kind and she had Diego caught; this was one net he didn’t want to get out of. All they have to do is escape from Silk Road’s inflatable boats racing towards them and hope THS came to their rescue before it was too late. Whatever happened Sloan would fight and she would do it with Diego by her side; she wasn’t alone. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
The Emerald Tear: 5 stars This story is how the Ward parents, Persephone and Oliver, met and fell in love. Oliver Ward is on an archaeological dig in Ecuador when bandits come and threaten his team. They are rescued by Persephone Blake, a treasure hunter. Together these two set off to find a lost Incan treasure called the emerald tear.
I loved this story. I am so glad we got the story of how the original Ward’s met and fell in love. It was everything I expected of a treasure hunter and an archaeologist. I wish we could see more of their adventures together, especially after they started having kids.
CW: gun and knife violence
The Emerald Butterfly: 4 stars Former Navy SEAL Diego Torres thinks he is finally going to have a nice vacation on his research and salvage vessel, The Storm Nymph. Instead he gets a call from Darcy asking him to help her friend, the gorgeous DEA Agent Sloan McBride, find a lost treasure.
I really enjoyed these two. Sloan is such a badass and I think I have a girl crush on her. She wasn’t afraid to go after what she wanted, especially when it comes to Diego. We first meet Diego in Unfathomed when he helps Morgan and Zack locate a lost shipwreck. I was intrigued by him then but he didn’t get much page time and I didn’t expect for him to appear again. Now we have a full story of him kicking Silk Road’s butt again, with a sexy agent at his side.
Overall, I loved this story and really wanted it to be longer just because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye.
CW: grandparent with cancer mentioned; gun and knife violence; mentions of being a POW, torture, and the death of friends; death of a coworker mentioned;
This is a pair of stories set in the Treasure Hunter Security series. The first is sure to be a favorite with fans of the series, featuring Persephone and Oliver. This can be fully enjoyed as a stand-alone. These two have made very interesting appearances in other stories and now we get to find out how they met and married! The second story ties into Persephone and Oliver’s story and takes place just before the next book in the series. Featuring kick-@$$ main characters Diego and Sloan, this story has humor, action, adventure, suspense, and steamy romance! There is no stopping this pair and what they are looking for! Both stories end with a HEA for the main characters and there isn’t a cliff hanger ending, but there is a set-up for the next book and you will be dying to know what happens next for long awaited couple Darcy and the annoying Agent Burke!
The stories in the Unidentified duology are wrapped around a pair of matched emeralds that were discovered or rumored to be discovered in the jungles of Ecuador. These two beautiful stones sat on matched statues at the entrance to a lost Inca Temple.
Naturally, such priceless treasures draw the eyes of the infamous Silk Road gang. But, as always, the men and women of Treasure Hunter Security are there to stop them – even before there actually is a Treasure Hunter Security.
The first story takes place in the 1970s, and it’s all about the 20th century discovery of the temple and the Emerald Tear. It is also the story of how archeologist Oliver Ward and treasure hunter Persephone Blake, the parents of the THS team, found each other.
The Emerald Tear is a story where Indiana Jones is both Romancing the Stone and discovering The Lost City of the Monkey God. What’s even more fun is that the Lost City book is actually non-fiction, but the description still fits.
(For casting purposes, think of Oliver Ward as Indy, and Percy as a female version of the mercenary Jack Colton in Stone – not that Oliver is in the least bit as mousy as Joan Wilder – far from it!)
It feels like The Emerald Tear is the meatier of the two stories. We get Oliver and Percy meeting and falling in insta-lust if not insta-love. But they are just made for each other. Percy is scouting Oliver’s village dig and Silk Road – or its predecessor – is following her. She has clues to the location of the temple, and her clue (and Silk Road’s) is smack in the middle of Oliver’s dig.
Once they get together, the story, and their romance, are off to the races. Or at least off to the middle of the jungle on a dangerous and deadly quest to find the temple, the emerald, and the key to each other’s hearts.
Oliver and Percy’s story is a fast-paced adventure in a steamy jungle with just the right amount of equally steamy sex.
Escape Rating for The Emerald Tear: A-
On my other hand, the story when it picks up in The Emerald Butterfly isn’t nearly as compelling. In comparison to The Emerald Tear, The Emerald Butterfly is pretty but not nearly as riveting.
It’s not that the romance between THS operative Diego Torres and DEA agent Sloan McBride isn’t steamy and sexy, it’s the action that isn’t between the sheets feels a bit formulaic. Or at least obvious and predictable.
We know Silk Road are following, we know they’re going to do their level worst to take the Emerald Butterfly from our heroes, and we know that THS is going to swoop in and save the day, the stone and our heroes.
So this was fun but nearly as interesting or exciting as the first story. I wanted a bit more of The Emerald Tear but was more than content to finish The Emerald Butterfly.
Two novellas in one book! Two Inca emeralds to be found. The Emerald Tear: the first of the novellas is the story of how Dec, Cal and Darcy's parents met! Dr Oliver Ward was leading a dig for his university in Ecuador when he met Persephone Blake. He knew she was special when she came in with her gun blasting as bandits attacked the dig. From that point on it's action and romance all the way. Persephone is on the trail of an Aztec emerald which she hopes will help towards her retirement fund. But, Silk Road operatives are in contention even then and Oliver isn't going to let her face them by herself. The Emerald Butterfly: DEA agent, Sloane McBride's, grandfather is dying. He is an old colleague of Oliver Ward and has always wanted to find the Emerald Butterfly. This is another Incan treasure that was lost when the Spanish ship, the Nuestra Senora De Atocha was lost in a hurricane off the Miami coast. Sloan has developed a computer program that she is certain has isolated the site where the Atocha went down. Darcy Ward is a close friend and she recommends that Sloan contact Diego Torres for help. Diego is an ex SEAL and friend to the THS guys. He owns a research and salvage vessel called the Storm Witch and has all the equipment necessary for an underwater search. Unfortunately his crew are all in vacation, as he is supposed to be but Darcy calls in a favour on behalf of Sloan. He realises too late that she is the SEA agent who handcuffed him when she thought he was obstructing her search for drugs on a recent case. Under the circumstances they decide to put the past in the past and go search for the missing emerald. Once again, Silk Road is on their trail with intention of killing them if necessary. Both novellas have their fair share of romance and action and are a pleasure to read!
Being able to read the love story of Oliver and Persephone Ward was a treat. The parents of Declan, Callum and Darcy, owners of Treasure Hunters Security, are a fascinating couple. She's a world renowned treasure hunter and he's a highly regarded archeologist and professor. Percy (as Oliver insists on calling her) is brash, opinionated, highly self sufficient and seemingly fearless. No one takes advantage of the diminutive powerhouse. Oliver didn't realize just how grey his world had become until Percy came crashing into it and then dragging him into her vibrantly colored world of adventure. These two go on a quest to find a fabled gem in the jungles of Ecuador. They give into the incredible attraction between them. Percy thinks it will be a short lived fling between them as she's in no way suited for anything more. Oliver is having nothing of it. He can and will do anything he has to do to make this treaure hunter his.
The Emerald Butterfly
Diego Torres caught my attention in Unfathomed so when I found out he was to have his own story I was very happy. This story is a great quick read filled with action and romance. Diego Trejo first met Sloan McBride when she handcuffed him...and it wasn't even kinky. Now she's back in his life and although he has grudgingly agreed to help her out, he's secretly happy to have her back in his life again, even if it's just for a short time. Together they search for and find a sunken ship filled with treasures. Sloan's quest is recover a particular gem that her dying grandfather searched for but never found. As you guess, Silk Road makes moves to confiscate what Diego and Sloan have found but what they didn't count on was the skills and abilities that these two bring to the table.
UNIDENTIFIED - TWO ADVENTURE STORIES - that had me hooked until the last word and I still wanted more. Inside; horrific dangers, life-threatening moments, gripping suspense, spine-chilling action, emotional moments, picturesque and dynamic scene descriptions, humor, true friendship, hot alpha males/the powerful women they adore, steamy sensuous romance, and happy endings.
The Emerald Tear: Archaeologist Oliver Ward and his team are on a quest to locate Inca ruins in the Amazon jungle. History challenges and excites Oliver, unfortunately, of late women do not. Persephone Blake is an audacious infamous treasure hunter. Her goal is to find the gem alone. The two meet under grave circumstances; their journey to a happy ending is quite a perilous ride.
The Emerald Butterfly: Diego Torres retired Navy Seal has plaguing memories of his time served. His happy place is being aboard his ship the Storm Nymph. While his crew is vacationing he looks forward to his Florida alone time on his ship; a call from Treasure Hunter Security squashes it. Sloan McBride a tough sultry DEA agent requests Diego's help to locate the gem before her granddad passes. They face quite a few hazardous obstacles before reaching their happily ever after.
THRILLING - The author has created two fascinating stories fused with reality and fantasy. Loved the suspense and action scenes. The chemistry between each couple is quite believable and shines in each story. Enjoying both stories {of my own volition without stipulations, I reviewed an advanced copy.} Without reservations, I recommend this read.
This book is a bonus you get two stories for the price of one.You get Persephone Blake and Oliver Ward's story of how they met and fell in love during an exciting adventure in the Amazon jungle on an Ecuadorian site which just happens to be targeted by bandits who are also looking for treasure. Persephone and Oliver will head off into the jungle looking for the Lost Emerald Mine of the Inca, with the bandits hot on their tail, trying to kill anyone who gets in their way. The next story is Diego"s and Sloan 's who really did not hit it off when they first met. Diego is the owner operator of the Storm Nymph a research salvage ship which the Treasure Hunter Security has used a few times on their underwater expeditions. Sloan is a DEA agent and she is the first to admit if she had taken the time to explain to Diego when she boarded his ship that she was looking for a large drug shipment , maybe she would not have had to put him in handcuffs. Now her grandfather Ben is dying of cancer and he was with Oliver Ward on the Ecuadorian site. Sloan just wants to find the Emerald Butterfly which had been taken by the Spanish on board a ship called Nuestra Senora de Atocha and she knows where the final part of the ship lies ,so she can let her grandfather hold it before he dies. Now they just have to stay alive and out of the clutches of Silk Road who want the treasure too and maybe Diego will admit he has met his match with Sloan. A big thank you to Anna Hackett for the amazing review copy. Love this series and cannot wait for Darcy and Burke's story. Highly recommend this author and her books.
This is the story of the Ward family parents, Oliver Ward and Persephone, Percy, Blake.
In the 70’s Oliver Ward is in Ecuador with a group and they are digging up a village. Some of the things they find and especially the location make no sense to Oliver. One day he sees someone watching the digging site and soon they are raided.
Persephone is on the search of a treasure and the team digging at the site she wants to check out is not helping. Also the attractive Oliver is a distraction that she neither needs nor can afford. And of course we have to battle for a treasure. The question is where will it end up and in who’s hands. In general I prefer longer stories where the romance and action can unfold, but this story was anyway great. The chemistry of the two main characters had been off the charts and the action had been captivating and fast paced. Perfect arch to the current time books.
Also the peek at the early beginnings of Silk Road had been great.
What warmed my heart had been the picture that Percy kept, showing her true wish versus her harsh reality. What you think your dream is and work hard to let it come true might not be what you need in truth.
I love this series!
THE EMERALD BUTTERFLY
The second story is about two characters that had already met and not in the most perfect way, Sloan handcuffed Diego and now she needs his help in order to find a treasure in a race against time and again our archenemy Silk Road. We have two strong characters, one is pulled away from his peaceful vacation and the other wants to fulfill someone else’s dream. Sparks fly between these two while they dive in search for the shipwreck.
Anthology: From the two short stories in this book, The Emerald Tear is by far the superior one, even though it has a horrible ending. That first story delivers everything I loved about this saga: cultural tidbits, adventure, action-packed and dangerous situations, sexy encounters in unexpected and impractical places… It only stutters in the romantic part. The second story, led by Diego and Sloan, has a better romantic development, but it lacks adventure and the action is reduced to a couple of bullet exchanges. The story was a condensed copy of the one told in Unfathomed, so we weren’t told anything new.
Cliché: As I have mentioned before, the ending of the first story almost ruins the rest. Am I the only one who thinks that such an early proposal doesn’t make any sense? Oliver and Percy barely knew each other… And that is kind of an habit in this genre. Is it too much to ask for sensible engagements? You don’t need to rush a wedding to get a happy ending…
I must admit I wasn’t very interested in this book, due to the disappointing stories we were delivered in the couple of books before this one. But I also have to admit that I have enjoyed it more than expected and it has rekindle my interest towards the last story of the Treasure Hunter Security.
This novella duo is a great addition to the Treasure Hunter Security series. Book one, The Emerald Tear, takes a step back in time to when Professor Oliver Ward met Persephone "Percy" Blake, a treasure hunter. They are the parents of the Ward siblings who own and operate THS and their story is totally captivating.
Book Two, The Emerald Butterfly, picks up with the ongoing THS storyline. Diego Torres, former SEAL, has helped THS with a few missions in the past. He's on vacation on his boat when Darcy Ward calls asking for a favor. Her best friend, Sloan McBride, is on the trail of an Incan emerald, one that went down in a Spanish ship in a hurricane near Key West. She needs help recovering it, but she's the woman who put Diego in handcuffs a few months back when he refused to allow her to board his boat. And he's still more than a little angry.
I am always excited when a new Anna Hackett book is released. This one was especially rewarding since it's a duo. Both novellas are great reads, and there's a teaser for the next book which already has me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait. I received a complementary copy of this book with no expectation of review.
We are back in the 70's and get to see Oliver Ward meet Persephone "Percy", the Professor and the Treasure Hunter, who go on to become, Dec, Cal and Darcy's parents! Can a sexy historian tame the wild and fiery tomb robber? Set in Ecuador and with no modern day tech the action is old school and action led.
The Emerald Butterfly
Diego had a rocky introduction to the lovely but career driven Sloan. He gets sideswiped by Darcy into taking on a job whilst he should be on holiday. She conveniently forgot to tell him that his new client was Sloan! They both feel the attraction but neither seem ready to cross the line. But with just the 2 of them on the boat who knows what could happen!
I enjoyed the threads which tied these novellas together. Characters from the first are mentioned/met in the second and both stories are very character/couple driven. There aren't a lot of supporting characters in either book, all the main action is with the couples themselves, except for the pieces with the baddies of course! Loved getting another slice of Darcy dealing with AAA (Agent Arrogant and Annoying).
This mini-read duo is fast-paced bookends TSH series 1-6 as the search begins and ends for two Incan artifacts; action, strong, feisty females and steamy relationships are a common thread between them. The Emerald Tear:(Rating: 4.5stars) 30something Oliver Ward enjoys scholarly and mud-based pursuits like archeology’ treasure hunter Persephone Blake is anxious to get her hands on the title artifact and cash it in to add the monies to her retirement fund and is watching Ward’s dig-site when its attacked. She decides it’s the perfect time but the two share a kiss that changes their minds about a lot of things. The Emerald Butterfly: (Rating: 4.5stars) Ex-SEAL Diego Torres has assigned himself alone time to help deal with his PTSD, when he’s roped into helping frienemy, FBI agent, Sloan McBride. Sloan wants to give her grandfather’s dying wish, to touch the lost Incan emerald butterfly that he spent the majority of his life searching for. Sloan’s sure her new program can lead them right to it, but of course Silk Road has other ideas. Rating: 4.5stars
Two emeralds of legend, the emerald tear and the emerald butterfly, form the basis of these two stories that connect the past and present. The emerald tear tells the story of Oliver Ward, father to the current THS Wards of the present, and Persephone, an infamous treasure hunter. The emerald butterfly takes us back to the present where Sloan McBride is taking a break from her job with the DEA in order to grant her doing grandfather's wish to find, or at least touch the emerald butterfly before he dies. She enlists the help of Diego Torres, a man she's previously tangled with on a case and with whom sparks fly. In both cases, as per the THS series, Silk Road makes their appearances to go for the treasures. Who will win the day?
As always, Anna Hackett has given a wonderful, action packed set of stories with all the feels. I love these characters and now can't wait to see what happens next for a certain computer genius and the agent who annoys her.
I love the adventure of this series! I especially like that each of these stories features a ‘heroine’ who is well equipped to take care of herself and doesn’t mind taking care of her companion as well. These are not shy, wilting wallflowers waiting to be rescued. Best of all, the men appreciate these women and all they offer!
The Emerald Tear I love the excitement of a trip to exotic locations, through jungles, down rivers guarded by caimans. Add in a few villains, treasure, a handsome man, a lovely, feisty woman, and romance...well, I’m hooked! This backstory of the Ward family is a thrilling adventure that should not be missed!
The Emerald Butterfly An excellent follow up to the 70s expedition in Ecuador! There is modern tech, searching the ocean depths for treasure, two fiercely independent people falling in love. What more could I ask? Some villains with deadly intent? Yes, they’re present and accounted for. There are also friends who drop everything to help out when needed.
I really enjoyed these quick but captivating novellas. The Emerald Tear allows us to get to know the parents of the adventurous siblings who run Treasure Hunter Security, Callum, Declan & Darcy. Oliver Ward is a well respected archeologist, and Persephone Blake is an independent, adventurous treasure hunter. Danger brings these opposites together, and the sparks ignite immediately. They team up to find a lost Incan emerald, but their approach to treasure seeking is completely different. As they get closer to finding the Emerald Tear, their lives are more imperil, not only from the jungle itself, but from black market thieves who want the artifact for themselves, and will stop at nothing to get it.
The Emerald Butterfly is about Diego, an ex navy SEAL who still loves being on the water as a captain of a salvage ship who we met in a previous book. Sloan is a DEA agent who enlists Diego to help her find a shipwreck, and it's priceless Incan emerald, to accomplish her dying grandfather's lifelong dream of finding the Emerald Butterfly. Their attraction builds as they work together locating the shipwreck. Just when everything is going their way, from finding the emerald, to giving in to their fiery chemistry, disaster hits and their lives are in danger from the Silk Road pirates who want the treasure for themselves. Now both SEAL and agent must use all their skills to make it back alive.
Stella Bloom does a great job bringing these fun, exhilarating, and steamy stories and characters to life! I was completely enthralled with her expressive narration as she took me on breathtaking adventures on land and sea!
The first story is The Emerald Tear. It's full of action, danger, romance. We meet Persephone Blake, feisty, strong and independent treasure hunter and Oliver Ward, the not so staid archeologist and history lover and soon to be Professor. They are Declan (book 1), Callum (book 2) and Darcy's parents.
The second story is The Emerald Butterfly and we first heard about it in The Emerald Tear. I liked Diego, the sexy, former Seal and Sloan is a kick butt, great woman. As is always true with Anna's books, there is plenty of action-adventure, danger, romance and a treasure found. I am looking forward to finally getting Darcy and Agent Arrogant Burke's story in August. That will be the end of this series but there is going to be a new series, soon, with some characters we glimpse in a couple of these books.
The action a blazingly fast, the scenes are super steamy. The first story is about Oliver Ward and Percy, and is set in the 1970s which threw me off, but is explained in the next story or in the description of you read it! Me, I saw Treasure Hunter Security and got it without reading the description!
These 2 are great to read for in between the previous story and the last one coming out in early September, which I have been anticipating greatly. You do not have to read the previous stories to get this. If you haven't, I bet you will read them after this. These stories have a breakneck pace, an intense tone, an action oriented storyline and vivid characters who can take on the bad guys. Try it yourself and enjoy!
Unidentified contains two novellas, set decades apart that detail the search for two Incan emeralds.
The Emerald Tear follows Oliver Ward, scholar, and Persephone Blake, treasure hunter as the team up and evade treasure hunters as they search for the Emerald Tear in the 1970’s – these two end up marrying and becoming the parents of the THS siblings.
In the Emerald Butterfly, DEA agent Sloan McBride enlists THS associate Diego Torres to help her find the elusive Emerald Butterfly. Her grandfather, introduced in Oliver and Persephone’s story, is dying, and had devoted his life to finding this Incan gem. Silk Road tries their best to keep them from getting ahold of this valuable artifact.
This book contains two novellas: the first one is the love story of Persephone Blake, the gorgeous, fierce and infamous treasure hunter and Oliver Ward, an young, handsome and ambitious archeologist. They want the same treasure: the Emerald Tear, an ancient Incan treasure. The second novella is about Diego Torres, ex SEAL and Sloan McBride a DEA agent. Their objective: find the long lost Emeral Butterfly, an Incan jewel that was stolen from the same archeological site where the Emerald Tear was found in the first story. Both novellas are full of action, adventure and romance in the style of writing of Ms. Hackett. Perfect for a day at the beach!
The very beginning. Where Dr. Oliver Ward and Persephone Blake meet, on a dig of course. They go off to find a lost mine with a legendary emerald. Then, many years later, the granddaughter of the leader of that original expedition is on the hunt for the second carved emerald from that mine. For her grandfather, who spent his career looking for it and it's now dying from cancer. She's best friends with Darcy Ward, who sets her up with Diego Torres, a friend of THS. Good thing too, because THS gets involved. Both searches are threatened by Silk Road. Great short stories.
Absolutely loved Unidentified, two stories make up this book. If you have been following the series than you know of Oliver Ward and Percy Ward, Dec, Cal and Darcy's parents. Well the first story Emerald Tear is their story, how they meet and started their HEA. The second story is Emerald Butterfly this is the sexy Diego's story, we first meet him in book four Unfathomed, Morgan and Zack's story. Diego will finally find the one woman for him and it isn't his ship. It's the feisty DEA agent Sloan McBride. Hackett will also set us up for Darcy's story. I enjoyed both of this stories, loving this series. Happy Reading!!
