This is not a stand-alone book; it is the continuation of a tale begun in Part One, "Three Threads". I highly recommend that you read "Three Threads" before reading further.
An exile in the land of enemies.
Having fled from an assassination attempt on her life with little more than the clothes on her back, the young moon elf Silvantana finds herself lost on the Surface--an alien sunlit world of trees and birds and strange animals populated by peoples who would slay her on sight for the color of her skin. Her only companion is a persistent pseudodragon and her only hope is the promise of help in the form of a mysterious woman in silver, if only she can find her before she is found.
Against the backdrop of a new war erupting between the moon elves of Erevy'nelaen and the sun elves of Aer'feralys, relentlessly pursued by her own kin, Silvantana must survive long enough to decipher the secret of the three threads, master the power of her mother's fersilis and gather allies from among enemies in order to save her people from a war they cannot win.
This is a brilliantly written story that will have you waiting for the next book. Leaving you with desire to find out more, where fate will lead and how the character will overcome all obstacles. If you loved the old Dungeons and Dragons worlds and you enjoy twists and unique views then this is the tale for you. I look forward to reading more of this world that Gary Triplett has created and future stories and art from this Author and Artist.
In a Fantasy world that is in constant darkness, where Moon Elves live away from the world and their society grows into a vast metropolis. How to you prepare a single person for a destiny that was already foreseen by the Seers? Is it possible to make that person ready for the inevitable fate that will come? How much training do you give? Or how hard do you push this individual? What if that very person was believed to be your Sister, one you had to raise yourself? Would you let fate takes the course or would you say “Damn the prophecy!” Then do everything possible to give them a future, a true fighting chance.
The Three Threads is a tale of intrigue both subtle politically and suspenseful. Triplett has done his homework as he breathes life into his characters. Set into a fantasy world that is not quite the standard you would expect to find. The cast of characters have been deeply thought on and crafted into his vision which is refreshingly unique, each with a drawing from the writer/artist himself (previous release.) One can feel the uniqueness of the characters and now a society reacts to being slightly out of the norm.
I truly love the art added,(previous version,) long has this been missing from so many good books, and Triplett’s Artwork is a spectacular joy adding to the story itself.
Although the story at first glance appears to be short and may need some backstory, the Author has already prepared for this and created vignettes, shorter novellas, helping or adding more richness for those that want to know more about this unique world he has created.
The book is somewhat geared from the perspective of a younger girl and some of the interaction seems to be a waste of readers words, but don’t be fooled, Triplett I suspect doesn’t add these parts without thought or reason and some of that could be important if you are looking for the right cues.
I loved this book! All of the buildup in part one pays off big time while continuing more rising action. This is a very rich world with huge potential to just keep going and going. If you love to explore new places filled with meaning and secrets to uncover, this is a great place to get your fix. There is every thing you could want! Talents, power, dragons, maps and adventure.
Picking up where Three Threads left off The Surface sweeps you up the continuing saga of Aer'felas. The pacing of this chapter speeds ahead and adds a lot more dealings with the dwarves. The characters feel so much more alive. Looking forward to what the next book might hold.
