Ms. Marvel continues her adventures as an X-Man, fighting to protect a neighborhood that hates and fears her - written by none other than her MCU actress Iman Vellani!
Ms. Marvel has officially come out to the world as a mutant and a member of the X-Men…and she’s about to learn just how hard things can get for mutantkind! Kamala Khan is used to being Jersey City’s hometown hero — and there’s no way her community would turn on her just because she’s a mutant, right? Right???
With Scott Godlewski added as the new artist to the creative team this an improved follow up to Ms Marvel: The New Mutant as it gives more depth and reality to Ms Marvel's transition to the mutant-dom. Starting off with Kamala struggling to crime fight under her new guide of a mutant, there is a needless Mojoworld adventure before we get back on path with Red Dagger(!), Inhumans, X-Men Zombies and more! Solidly back in the heart of Kamala's New Jersey this sequel much better rings true to the original Ms Marvel serials :). A rounded up Three Star, 5.5 out of 12 read. Also, I was today years old, when I realised the co-writer is the actress who plays Ms Marvel on screen! 2025 read
If Ms. Marvel is on the title then it’s going to be a 5, sorry… sue me or something for being a crazy stan. I love Kamala so much and I’m so proud of Iman and the story she’s been telling these last two volumes. Love that we just established what’s going on with her comic power and her MCU power. Spoilers for sure here, but it seems to me that Iman and Marvel have established that in worlds where Kamala’s Inhuman power appear first she gets the normal embiggening abilities and in worlds where her mutant power activates first (like the MCU I guess) she gets that hard light ability. Now we wait and see if she can exist as both at once. Really liked how this went but I’m sad to see how it ended. She is at the lowest point in her life despite loving herself the most she ever has, where does she go from here? I’m hoping we don’t have to wait too long to find out and I hope the next time we see her she has an actual ongoing series and not just mini series. It feels like it’s been forever since she starred in her own ongoing comic.
I really enjoyed the first two issues of this miniseries, it was like having the old Kamala back, and the artwork was very nice throughout.
Unfortunately, the second half got bogged down in both Fall of X Krakoa-stink and pandering to the MCU version of Ms. Marvel, which spoiled my enjoyment somewhat.
This was about 3.5 stars. It mostly gets by on the inherent charm of Kamala Khan.
My least favorite story was the Mojoworld issue. I’m just not a fan of Mojo in general, and find he doesn’t tend to land anymore like he should. He feels very much like an out of touch attempt to capture whatever is popular at the moment. For comics that are mostly targeted to older audiences, it can sometimes feel like it hits the mark, but is usually a hollow version of that. It’s also much more transparent than any of that type of media is in reality, so the reactions in the story (people eating out of Mojo’s hand) are that much less realistic.
I did really enjoy Red Dagger, more than I expected to based on the Disney+ show. I also appreciated that they answered one of the mysteries presented in this volume. Though on the flip side, I wish they hadn’t tried to reveal her mutant power so quickly after the question came up. There is a lot of other fertile ground for stories with this character’s new status quo. I think they could’ve let people wonder for a while longer. It is nice that it’s presented in a way that it can turn out to be wrong or something in the future, but it should’ve been left dangling a bit longer.
In the broader context, I had almost no way of knowing this was a Fall of X book, which is my main issue with that “event” across the board. There’s no consistency with the threats from Orchis or their follow through. As the end of what began as one of the most tightly and effectively coordinated eras of the X-Men, the whole Fall feels remarkably sloppy.
That being said, this volume stands just fine on its own. You don’t hear in this book about how Orchis is threatening to kill civilians for any mutants discovered on Earth, so it’s ok that Ms Marvel is out in public. On its own merits, it does just fine, so I won’t dock it for the failings of the Marvel universe’s broader status quo. I do know I won’t be following this any further just because I’m ready for a break for now.
3.5 Stars. Being that this is the last of the Krakoa Era books I am reading, I'm ready to move on. Never been a constant reader of Ms Marvel, but I do love that this Volume was written by Iman Vellani, the actor who plays Ms Marvel in the MCU. So happy for her to have such a strong grasp on the character that she is shaping in on the page as well. Highlights: - Ms Marvel's recent muscle issues stem from her Inhuman abilities fighting her mutant powers. Ever since mutant resurrection, she has not been exposed to terrigen mists, which gets fixed here - She fights against zombie clones of X-Men, developed by Orchis, that actually have the same abilities as their originals. - We find out Red Dagger is named Kareem, and he and Ms Marvel kiss for the first time - Kamala does a stint in Mojoworld to help Lila Chaney while she rescues some of her biggest fans.
Got to catch up on other Marvel titles before diving into "Blood Hunt" or "From the Ashes".
Yo!!!!! Holy moly! So her embiggening powers are from her Inhuman genetics...but her mutant abilities are
This was so exciting and fun and I really enjoyed Kamala's perspective/inner monologue. Between reading comics featuring Ms. Marvel I forget how much I love the character. This, THIS was a heavy handed reminder of how much I adore her character.
Hope we can see more of her in the comics and in the MCU.
Nonstop things happening to Kamala. Old faces, new faces, and ties into what's happening in the MCU. All this time, I don't think Kamala or her supporting cast is really given any kinda time to grow as characters. Only gets an additional star to be bearable for the abundance of memes & references courtesy of a trip to Mojoworld.
These limited series by Vellani aren’t the best Ms. Marvel work out there. It’s not that I hate it—it’s just not as good.
Ms. Marvel is going through a lot, dealing with her mutant powers, coming back from the dead, having her city turn against her, and having her friends and family not remember her hero identity—all of that, but she has a large support system that she’s not reaching out to! That was even pointed out in the book!
The first issue—issue 5 (chapter 5)—was the best of the book so far… well, the first part of the first issue.
Issue 6 was boring. Keep superheroes in their fields, please. Why bring her to space? It was a bit of fun seeing her make movie scene references, do slime time, and do ASMR, but not fun enough to enjoy the entire issue.
Issue 7 was more action… and romance, unfortunately. I despise superhero romance dramas!
Issue 8 was the second-best so far. It was less superhero soap opera drama and more realistic superhero drama, like the aftermath of what happened after the fight and the people of Jersey City's reaction to Ms. Marvel. But let’s rewind a bit. The middle part of this issue was not that good. Nitika had to start yapping. Great, another nemesis who thinks they know the superhero they’re a fan of.
Kudos for Marvel to keep pushing Ms. Marvel on us... BOO to Marvel for relegating Iman Vellani's (Ms. Marvel in the MCU) writing to multiple miniseries...
This should have just been regular issues in a 'Ms. Marvel' monthly, but that got canned. Not to be outdone, they shoved Kamala into Spider-Man stories and even had her killed off (quickly fixed by making her a Krakoan era mutant....TA-DA, Krakoan cloning)
All that did was make a mess of things and we have two miniseries to try and fix it. Only problem (ongoing) is that this is all happening during the 'Fall of X' storyline and that storyline is its own heaping mess of yuck.
Cliffnotes version: Kamala Khan was resurrected, thanks to Krakoan medicine. New problem? She has an X-gene that never got triggered thanks to the Terrigen Mists she was exposed to during her origin story. Now, she's stuck in the middle of both. X-gene and Inhuman terrigenesis fighting for control and as we learned in 'Inhumans vs X-men', the two are polar opposites and can kill you.
Save the world or meltdown? Pick your poison, Kamala. --- Bonus: Iman Vellani tries to match MCU Kamala to Marvel 616 Kamala. Kinda works...kinda not Bonus Bonus: If this character can just get stabilized (fixed?) she can go back to being awesome
First volume by Iman Vellani was solid, but this one is a bit more paint by numbers. Everything feels like a bottle episode after the issue started to build some tension with Kamala and her community before then swerving into outerspace and the Mojoverse before then dealing with some X-men zombies and then putting a button on things with the Inhumans and Nitika showing up to act not totally like an Orchis agent at the end. Art was solid but there just didn’t feel like much coherent narrative happening here and the reliance on threads from the mid 20teens was pretty apparent and detracted from the more sophisticated interweaving of past references in the first volume. I’d definitely read more, but since this seemed to finish on an ending, I’m curious if this represents the end of Iman Vellani’s run?
Kamala Khan enters the Fall Of X by going undercover at Empire State University, only to find that a familiar face is still on her tail, and Ms. Marvel announcing herself to the world as an X-Man might not have been the smartest move.
Ms. Marvel herself continues to pen her own counterpart's stories, piloting her through Fall Of X pretty well while also keeping this story firmly Kamala's own. There's some throwback stuff, some zombies, a dream sequence, and a revelation featuring the Inhumans and Kamala's latent mutant power that confirms something we've all been wondering, all crammed into four action packed issues.
While I do wish Kamala had her own ongoing again, I'm happy to take what I can get for now.
MS. MARVEL: MUTANT MENACE is the sequel to MS. MARVEL: THE NEW MUTANT but, honestly better in just about every single way. The New Mutant was too focused on a single villain and Ms. Marvel going to college but not actually aging her out of high school. Which is ridiculous if they don't plan to do anything with her actually in high school or her high school cast. There's Red Dagger's return. an evil Ms. Marvel corpse, and analyzing how coming out as a mutant has destroyer her popularity. Good stuff!
Bad enough that Kamala only got to join the X-Men as Krakoa fell, just in time to get the whole hated and feared bit turned up to 11 – but now being a mutant means she has to deal with sodding Mojo too. And yet the complexities of a dual heritage mean she remains lumbered with the Inhumans as well (though obviously it's always great to see Lockjaw again). Despite all of which, this team remain the best custodians Ms Marvel has had since Willow Wilson moved on.
This was a mixed bag for me. I liked the first two issues of Kamala dealing with Jersey City’s fear and weariness of mutants. I also really enjoyed having Red Dagger back. He and Kamala have great chemistry. Then the last two issues take a dive with Mojo as the big bad and then going over the Fall of X. I hope the next volume can hold its own without backtracking again on the past.
Like most of the Fall of X comics, this isn't great. It lacks focus, floating to a new local each issue. Then it ends trying to somehow tie in the comic version and the MCU version of Ms. Marvel and not succeeding. Also, when did Lila Cheney become stereotypically British?
A fantastic continuation of the previous volume, vol. 2 further explores the mutant aspect of Kamala’s dual Inhuman/Mutant identity that, in turn, confirms an implication of what has been observable in her on-screen MCU adaptation.
it's a weird reset. I wonder if the book can really grow.
also confusing how the villain knew and spoiled the big surprise about ms. Marvel's mutant power. given all of the mutant powers that exist, why is the one from the Disney Plus show so exciting to the villain.

Great insights into Ms Marvel and her future with the X-Men. The new villain is interesting and scary. Enjoyed the art and direction of the story. Hope to see more Ms Marvel in the future.
Very packed with action but light on real weight or emotions, this book sets up a new status quo for the title character and has some fun adventures but feels like a middle chapter.
