Being a unicorn isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. No—not the supernatural kind known for befriending virginal women in the woods—the bisexual, available person who prefers finding a couple to be with kind. Being that type of unicorn means Dillon is often wanted for a few hours or even a night or two, but it’s rarely a long-term relationship. He considered trying to settle down in a more traditional way and do the monogamy thing, and it just wasn’t for him. Commitment is, but he sees himself in a permanent triad and wants it with them.
Kevin and Elizabeth came to the gaming convention to enjoy a weekend away from being parents to their three pre-teens. When a snowstorm and polar vortex hit the city at the same time, snowing in the resort and knocking out the power, the event organizers scramble to find rooms for all the guests who were planning on commuting back home or to other hotels at the end of the night. Their room only has the one bed, but there’s an oversized chair, floor space, and—honestly—the bed is big enough to share. They invite Dillon to come stay in their room for the night.
For Dillon, a night in their room means he has one chance at winning more than that in their lives. If the dice are in his favor, maybe—just maybe—he’ll score a nat twenty on being part of a d3some.

The 2010 TWCS Original Fiction Contest winner for best supernatural story, Miya Kressin began her writing career in college but did not devote a lot of time to it until she became a mother. Her love of writing resumed when she began creating oral stories and fantasy worlds for her young children and then put pen to paper to preserve these stories for them. After discovering an online community of amateur writers and readers, Miya resumed writing the stories she dreamed of for years.

Very cute and spicy novella. I really enjoyed getting to know these three, and their story had me smiling the whole time! It was real and vulnerable and just a very enjoyable read. I loved all the nerdy references as well.
Elizabeth and Kevin were married with 3 children (a set of triplets) and they live a polygamous lifestyle. They had been previously involved with one or two additional people. At this game con they ran into a friend Dillon who they have known for a couple of years. Dillion had played games with them, he had been in Elizabeth’s book groups, so they knew each other pretty well. At this gaming event Dillion’s hotel was several miles away from the resort and with a large snow storm he was unable to make it back to his hotel. Elizabeth invited him to stay and feelings were expressed but they agreed not physically act on these feelings. Can a married couple invite a third into their relationship and make it work for everyone? This book was very interesting with all the thoughts, feelings and information that needed to be arranged and dealt with to make sure that all three were on the same page. There are some steamy moments but this is really a very cerebral look at a polygamous relationship and how to make it work for everyone. It was definitely an interesting read.
I was casually enjoying the fluff when a reference was made that hit me straight in my millennial heart and had me insta-crying and hoping desperately that our heroine and heroes would get the HEA they so richly deserve. Kressin's books are the antidote to this hellish decade we're living through, I just wish there were more of them to read :)
I was so excited to read this, but feel like it felt short. The storyline felt short and rushed. I loved the dynamic of the 3 main characters and the way they melded together. But I was left hoping for more.
somehow, this story was both spicier and sweeter than I imagined it would be! a nice novella capturing a married couple, adding a third into their relationship. A little touch of Midwest snow and some gaming makes it even better :)
