My name is Remy Aaron, and a sexy witch summoned a meteor from outer space to blow up my car while I was driving home from work.
Unfortunately, the new world I respawned in is a monster-infested battleground between the Deep Ones and the Outer Gods. Lucky for me, I can harness and multiply the elemental powers of my wives. Oh, did I forget to mention them? Each of my wives has an elemental affinity that grows stronger the more we bond, and so I’m well on my way to mastering all the elements.
But I’ll need more wives, higher stats, better gear, and a kingdom to rule. Call me lazy if you want, but not even a long to-do list can stop me from relaxing in the hot spring between dungeon runs.
I have to say, despite the two stars my main grievances have little to do with the writing and editing. I only made it 10% in but didn’t notice any typos or mistakes in grammar. There was the occasional time I felt a word choice was odd here or there but overall not bad on that front. Likewise the writing was surprisingly easy to read and understand and I initially got the impression of a good story to settle into.
Where I had some major issues were the pacing of the story and the lack of introspection/relatability with the characters, especially the MC. Both these issues I found could’ve improved the other if they were better, the level of acceptance from the MC just suddenly dying on a drive home from work and ending up in another world with magic was portrayed like the MC just decided to go for a walk through a park. The author gives us no introspection from the MC and outwardly the MC barely even seems surprised by his situation giving the reader no way to empathize with him. It’s tough to relate to a 2D character that seems almost robotic.
[minor spoiler]
The world building consisted of some brief description of ruins in the new world and really nothing else. Combine with the unrealistic depiction of an MC who was a school teacher who’s expertise with weapons extended to watching their use on tv suddenly wielding them like an expert to kill a manticore leaves a lot to be desired in the details of this book.
That said I did like the author’s writing style from what I saw and may attempt another book in the future by them, but they would need to show a lot of growth in their writing and spend a lot more time fleshing out their story to hook me. Even with only making it 10% I could tell that this book could’ve easily been twice as long or more if the author spent more time fleshing out their story. This book was ultimately a flop for me though as is.
I have a few issues with this story but I can honestly say I enjoyed the first 70% of the book.
First of all the pacing of the relationships and power scaling are horribly done. The relationships progress too quickly which I could excuse if the empathy bond they have was more of a passive thing rather than an active one. And the rate at which the mc grows is way too slow for this sort of story. He doesn't even unlock the ability to level his own stats till near the end of the book.
That's another issue I have with this book. The way stats work are described is so ridiculous it's not even funny. Agility is represented as the best stat while the rest are basically useless. And the way he says being a jack of trades is bad when his ability revolves around him essentially switching classes made me literally facepalm.
Not to mention how weak Remy is overall. He is literally 5 times more powerful than his girls but he couldn't beat a single noble without resorting to summon a minor god and the noble still got away.
But the main issue I have with this story is the whole thing with Saran and Tara. Remy gets ridiculously angry when he sees how Tara is treated but doesn't even blink when he's told that Saran is one of the kindest nobles on the island. He doesn't try to figure out a way to kill the prince and his cohorts, he doesn't try to think of a way to free all the cursedborne, nor does he consider what his actions would result in. It's so stupid I just couldn't keep reading (made it to about 80%).
Honestly, the whole thing with Tara and the noble just made me dislike Remy's character. He acted far too idiotic for my tastes and just made life harder for Tara. I might eventually come back and finish this book but I doubt it, once I begin to dislike an mc that's stories dead to me.

DNF. Obviously any book requires a suspension of disbelief, I mean magic; however, this was just awfully written and requires your brain to not work.
I made it to like 60% in this book and just couldn’t anymore. The MC is established as a caring, mild mannered, school teacher. He gets killed by one of the characters so they can transport him to another world. He just kinda glazes over this and is like, ok. Admitting if they had asked he would have said no, but other than that let’s just be ok with being murdered.
5 minutes into the new world he has “bonded” with a woman who, oh it means we’re married now, and has access to her powers. I can accept that this was to get him magic for the series but still no real story there. Also he suddenly knows how to fight, despite saying he has no training or anything, and it taking on a huge manticore like it’s nothing. Doesn’t freak out confronted by a mythical death beast, just lets do this “leeeroy” type crap.
The absolute worst imo is how he goes from a decent seeming guy to a dollar store dom in like half a page. He starts treating his “wife” like a sub/slave, despite her being a virgin when they met, and then when he meets another woman to bring in, she immediately jumps to roll of mistress of their “willing” sex slave. Seriously that is just beyond ridiculous. Not even an attempt to lead her into that role or explain it, just here it is.
I don’t say this often, but this book was written by someone who is a massive incel. Honestly feels like he is trying to write every awful fantasy he has and not in a good way. The book consists of walking, fighting, and screwing. What I read didn’t really have a story or plot.
I couldn't get myself to finish this book. I couldn't make sense out of this world and it didn't feel very well constructed but some kind of exploration writing with no big concept. I could be wrong of course - i stopped at 25% and maybe the story got better after that - therefore no rating.
I have a pet peeve when MC or others feel the need to self-satisfy. This can be many things but often comes in the "I'm a good person, I'm so amazing, I narrate my actions as good, etc." This may just be a 'me' thing, but I often find it takes away from the story. Instead of enjoying the story, the adventure, and more. I'm being told to enjoy it.
A fun fast paced fantasy adventure! An interesting take on a reborn hero with slow progressive growth! Editing for a first book was excellent and I can't wait to see what the author comes up with next!
The characters are colorful and rapidly establish themselves and their goals. The world they live in is vivid and colorful. The foes are extremely easy to dislike and you want to see them vanquished. Bring on Book 2!
Great pacing, interesting world. You'll want to reread the book, just for the character's development and great world building. You won't be able to wait for the next book.
I really like the magic system - that a soulbound can bind with elementalists and use their power with the deeper their bound, the more power they can both access. However, the story is way to rushed. I wish the author took more time getting us engrained in the world and the characters.
