Ingenious ! A short story that can't fit in everything we want to know about this couple but Nick Pageant gives us enough of a story to justify pondering mysteries and spying on a sex scene between an experienced guy and a virgin. This is a Big Misunderstanding plot but the big misunderstanding is pretty BIG. I'm not sure how Billy was able to reconcile his hurt and end up with a happily ever after but if anyone deserves a HEA it's Billy.

Nick Pageant does this to me a lot. He cuts his stories down to the bone so there are no words wasted. He promised me a 400 page book next time (no not you, just me ;-) because if you've read his book Beauty And The Bookworm you know that he has a voice to read on and on and on.

This is what author Nick Pageant wrote when asked if he knew someone with Cerebral Palsy.

"I wrote Billy's Turn for a cousin who has the same physical condition as Billy and is also gay. He's had a tough time in the love department, but is the one person in my life I consider most deserving of an HEA. Billy's Turn was my writer's attempt at fulfilling all the wishes I have for him"

I thought that was a sweet enough reason to give the story a whole 5 stars—for Nick's cousin who I pray gets his HEA..

A really cute story, a little short but cute. Billy is a young shy boy suffering from a mild case of cerebral palsy. Seth Ryder is a handsome student with a really bad rep. Will their apparently fortuitous meeting transform in something more?

Billy’s shyness and naivety captured me. Loved how the Author dealt with his first time: hot and funny at the same time.

Keep lots of pistacchio ice cream at hand, you’ll need it.

UPDATE: May I be massively self-involved & blame this review for the GR downage?

Goodreads erased my review. I am left so mentally exhausted & emotionally disturbed that I've gone back to bed. I CAN'T HANDLE THIS SHIT TODAY.

From now on I will refer to Goodreads as BADREADS. Ha! Ya burnt!

Course it could be my laptop. What the fuck ever!

Read this book if you like a sweet read. Or whenever you're having a shitty day.

Billy's Turn was a lovely story about two damaged boys who find each other and fall in love.

Billy is a shy young man who suffers from a mild case of cerebral palsy. His disease makes him feel awkward around people, since he constantly questions whether or not they see his limp. Due to this, he also beats himself up and pushes his body hard to minimize the symptoms. He is a sweet, genuine guy, who works in a diner with the three men he calls his family.

Seth goes to the gym Billy frequents. He's handsome and confident, but he's got a bad reputation. Of course Billy has a major crush on him and after being cockblocked by his friends, when he meets Seth on vacation, the heat level goes through the roof. Speaking of, I loved the little cozy cottage on the beach.

I pretty much expected and tried to guess the big secret throughout the whole book, and I have to admit I didn't picture that scenario. But I was glad the boys got their HEA after all.

What kind of bothered me was Also, I would have liked to know more about Seth's past and why he ended up being who he was.

Oh, and I'm not much of an ice cream person, but this book has made me crave a pistachio cone...

This was a fun read, not super angsty and maybe a little light on plot development, but I appreciated that Billy, who's POV filters the story, isn't perfect. He has a mild case of cerebral palsy, which makes him awkward and shy; he's always worried people are looking at his limp. Then he sees a hot guy at the gym who seems to see beyond that to the real Billy.

Billy falls head over heels, only to find out that Seth, his love interest, has a pretty big secret, one that impacts Billy.

There's a couple side plots involving Billy's friends at work, who are like family to him, and his long-lost (estranged) mother. I was interested in Billy's life but felt some of the plot lines were slightly underdeveloped.

I definitely wanted to know more about Seth too. How did he fall into his line of work? What did he see in Billy? (We don't get Seth's POV at all, so we never know what he's thinking.) He has a big change of heart that wasn't necessarily unfeasible, but it felt like a stretch considering the lack of background information regarding Seth's past and motivations.

Even so, I enjoyed this book. There were some sweet and sexy moments between Billy and Seth, and I really liked Billy as a character.

Let me tell you that I usually hate the “meddling friends and family members” trope with the power of a thousand suns. But here it worked surprisingly well. Maybe that's because I come to love all the characters from the other books, but I couldn't bring myself to be pissed about the whole thing with hiring Seth to be Billy's lover and Charlie's initial hostility towards him. I dunno they all just so obviously cared about Billy I was so happy he forgave them in the end.

As for Seth and Billy - I believe they're perfect for each other and I'm very fond of the ex-hustler finding love trope, so I enjoyed this part.

I'm looking forward to more Rose City stories! :)

Adorable MC, strong writing! I am on a Nick Pageant tear after reading and loving Beauty and the Bookworm. This is not snarky like Beauty and the Bookworm, but it is lovely. The sweet MC, Billy, is slightly disabled and really beats himself up about it. All he wants to do is to be loved and to love somebody who can see past his disability. This was short and sweet with well rounded characters and character developments. It had just enough angst for me and just enough humor and those "Awwwww, how sweet!" moments without getting too treacly. Recommended highly for someone in need of a quick, well crafted piece of feel good fluff (my favorite kind!).

About 75% of this book was a bit too sweet and syrupy for my liking but the last 25% made it more to my liking. This is the first series that I'm reading backwards. Funny.

#1 thanks for having a MC with a serious physical medical (not emotional) problem.

Billy headed back to their table with Dillon following. Billy's confidence grew with every step. He had done it. He had actually talked to a handsome man in a bar. He couldn't help but smile a little to himself, but then it happened. A contraction seized Billy's left leg and he found himself stumbling forward. He was used to that happening and adapted to it automatically, never breaking his stride. Still, the damage was done.

Dillon laughed bitterly over his shoulder. "Dude, are you drunk? It's only seven o'clock."

Billy turned to face Dillon, his face turning scarlet. "I'm not drunk. I just stumbled."

Dillon shook his head disgustedly. "Every guy I meet in here is either drunk or married."

"I'm not drunk! I have...never mind."

The understanding it took to write about Billy's self-consciousness about walking and his anger was rare. This part especially resonated with me. My daughter has MS. People assume (make an ass out of you and irate me) that whenever one has problems walking they are drunk. If the person does not have a cane or is in a wheelchair what other reason could there be? Definitely not that he or she is pushing their courage and stamina to walk without help as much as possible. There is a MS T-shirt that says it best: I am not drunk. I JUST have MS. Thank you Nick.

The story was wonderfully sweet while dealing with rent boys, hot sex and curmudgeons. Billy is in lust with Seth who works out at the same gym where Billy swims. Major lust.

Billy watched him go and nearly had a heart attack when Seth slowly removed his towel, giving Billy another great view of his perky, round butt, before turning with those beautiful mossy eyes and giving Billy a wink.

Billy has his own problems and secrets. It is those secrets that may derail this relationship before it ever gets past the staring phase. This story touched me in a good way. I loved and admired Billy. I want to know more about Seth. Well worth my time.

I must state that I consider Nick a GR friend. I tried hard to neither be too lenient nor too harsh, but just be honest.

Other than an hour in bed with the man you love, is there anything in life more wonderful than finding an author who writes romance just the way you like it? That’s what happened to me when I stumbled across the works of Nick Pageant.

Billy Collins is 22 years old. He works in a diner and suffers equally from CP (Cerebral Palsy) and UVS (Unwanted Virginity Syndrome)—my joke, not Pageant’s. Seth Ryder is every gay man’s wet dream come true—as warm and personable as he is drop-dead gorgeous. When the two meet, sparks fly, as well they should. But, why is someone as perfect as Seth interested in someone as perfectly ordinary as Billy?

What starts out as classic Hurt/Comfort takes a heartstring-tugging turn when the roles are reversed and our Hurt guy suddenly finds himself comforting our Comforter. In general, I prefer main characters who are ‘versatile,’ but I had never considered versatility in this dimension. The twist in the middle of the plot was totally unexpected, and my heart broke right along with the characters involved. I was genuinely surprised by the depth of emotion Pageant was able to evoke in only 78 pages—it usually takes longer than that to make me boo-hoo, but I had to reach for the tissues several times.

The supporting characters are beautifully drawn and provide a treasure trove of conflicting motivations that swirl around the main characters and interfere with their world. Billy’s cantankerous boss, Nate, was particularly engaging. It would likely spoil the plot if I were to describe the other supporting character who caused me to weep, but when you’ve read the book, you’ll know who I mean. And, you definitely should read this book, it’s well worth your time and attention!

This had a lot of good things going for it. Mostly I loved Billy and his background story.

I loved that Billy was not a perfect Adonis, and his self esteem issues just made him more loveable for me. The moment with his mother had me reaching for the tissues. I would of liked some more details on his life growing up just to round his character out a bit.

The love story was sweet even if I did guess Seth's secret.

But there were places that the story felt a little to simple and easy. Being a short things felt rushed and not always believable. I skipped the sex, not because it was bad, but because I really don't bother with sex scenes any more plus I wanted to get back to the story.

Overall a sweet easy read, ideal for when you need a romance fix but don't have much time.

A nice free read, I liked the setup, the storyline itself was sweet and Billy defintely a cute guy.It had potential and luckily the potential wasn't wasted.

Why it's still average for me? The writing itself felt sometimes a bit too "average". Billy did this, Billy did that, the man did this, the man did that.

All in all it was entertaining but nothing I'm going to reread.
