Rubyville Vampires #2

Mate Me, Save Me

Rate this book
Scarred. Broken. Healed by his vampire mate.

Born and raised in a vampire coven, Rhyme knows vampires are all sadistic, manipulative monsters who'll never see mortals like him as anything more than blood-slaves. So when he finds himself 'rescued' by another coven, he knows it's a lie. These new vampires are not his saviors.

The moment Iskander sets eyes on the scarred mortal in the infirmary bed, he knows that Rhyme is his. His to protect. His to cherish. His mate. But before he can even think about claiming Rhyme, he's going to have to fight his way past Rhyme's scars. And some of those run deep.

Rhyme doesn't understand Iskander, this vampire who promises to guard him, who holds him through his nightmares and never asks for a thing in return. Not even for Rhyme's blood. It would be so easy, to let himself believe. But still, Rhyme's waiting for that rush of violence and fangs that will prove him right.

Except it doesn't come and, slowly, Iskander's arms begin to feel like home, like the safety he never knew. Like love.

But can Rhyme really let himself fall for a vampire? Please refer to the look-inside regarding sensitive subjects present in this book.

ok slightly better than book 1. but ngl i still don't know if this is a fated mates thing or...?

...and that question alone explains the poorly done and vaguely written worldbuilding. we're in book 2, this base should have been established far, far ago.

other than that tho, the romance develops slower but that's expected due to the 'past trauma' factor Rhyme has. this couple is more endearing that the one in the first book cos Iskander is def more likable than Sven and Altair imo since he has a semblance of a personality and treats Rhyme super sweetly. bonus points for no miscommunication and that Rhyme wholeheartedly trusted Iskander even after his family suspected the vamp of not playing nice.

the plot was again, unsurprising. it goes: Keegan predicts something, gives very cryptic and ominous advice, the advice is semi-brushed aside, but everything works out in the end with a happy ever after. honestly felt sorry for Keegan cos he was so underappreciated for his advice and machinations.

anyway i digress. 3.5 stars(for the decent romance) rounded down (for the worldbuilding and boring plot).

Because I exclusively read mm romance, I don't check for pregnancy/babies in the tags. Usually I will see it in mentioned in the blurb if it's a larger plot point and or a single dad romance. Totally on me that I don't do a check on books where it's not obvious from the blurb. Pregnancy/babies is something that I purposefully avoid, and unfortunately, it played a big role in this story. It's hard to separate out how I felt about the rest of the story from that element so I'm not sure I should give a star rating - it's obviously not the author's fault that I suck at screening my books. I do have thoughts about the story overall, it's just hard to completely remove that part.

For a book that dealt with such heavy topics, this was actually a really gentle hurt/comfort story. A ton of really traumatic things happened to Rhyme before the start of the book and I appreciated the author's approach - we definitely knew what had happened to him without anything explicitly happening on page. It was successfully shown how these things effected him without being gratuitous. So definitely kudos for that.

I did not read the first book in this series and I probably missed out on a bit of the worldbuilding but it was still easy to follow. However, I do wonder if there had been more about Iskander's background in there that would've fleshed him out for me more. Sometimes I couldn't even picture what he looked like because a lot of things about him were so nebulous. I did really like him, though - it felt like he always said and did the right thing and was such a good match for Rhyme. Just wish I had gotten to know him a little better.

In the beginning, Rhyme was in a place where he would truly rather die than continue to live in pain (lots of TW for suicidal ideation and on page attempts). It was really heartbreaking to read his thoughts and see his struggles. His pain and fear and mistrust were really felt and Iskander's responses were so thoughtful and gentle. He truly only ever wanted what was best for Rhyme and made him feel safe enough to begin healing. This featured a lot of the kind of small, patient, trust building moments that I love to see in stories with traumatized MCs. The intimacy between them was sweet and the sex was well written. There wasn't a ton (which makes sense for this kind of story) but it was good and meaningful when it occurred.

Things got a little more angsty than I had anticipated in the last quarter of the book and I truly wasn't sure how it was all going to work out. It kind of had me on edge but I liked not knowing what was going to happen. It felt like things were wrapping up around the 65% mark and I was like... wtf, there's a whole lot left to go. And that's when a whole other plot point came into play. It worked really well - it didn't come out of nowhere or anything, it fit. And if the plot that came out hadn't involved what it did, I would've thought it was a great literary choice. So, while I didn't like what happened, I did think it was well played. And I appreciated that the author never let there be miscommunication between the MCs - the conflict was external, with the MCs working together. Loved that.

This is a little all over the place because my feelings about this are a little all over the place. I think for people who do not have my particular hangups, this is a solid story. For those of us that are averse to pregnancy and babies in their romances, maybe skip it.

Iskander gave a small shake of his head. "I stopped you because I did not want you to get hurt." A wry smile formed on Rhyme's lips. "Staying alive means getting hurt."

"Thank you, though." Iskander held his gaze. "For what?" "For offering. For giving me a choice." Rhyme smiled weakly, and Iskander's chest ached.

Iskander's gaze fixed on him. "I quite enjoy the fantasy of stabbing the people who hurt you myself." "Oh." Rhyme blushed as if Iskander had just said something romantic.

"What's so funny?" Iskander asked, clearly picking up on the shift in his expression. "Nothing." Rhyme smiled at him. "Just never thought I'd see you on your knees." Without hesitation, Iskander took Rhyme's hand, brought it to his lips and kissed his knuckles. "I would kneel for you any day."

Iskander understood, though, all the things Rhyme didn't manage to say. A tragic ending was still better than endless tragedy.

Rhyme held his gaze, searching for the lie. Searching for the manipulation that vampires were so famous for. But all he saw in the depths of Iskander's eyes was sincerity, honesty, and… love. And if that was fake, Rhyme didn't care to know the truth.

"I know finding your mate is a big deal to a vampire, but sometimes you guys forget that it's a big deal to the mate in question too. Rhyme may be mortal, but I promise you, he knows that he belongs to Iskander just as surely as if he had magic in his veins."

Safety (may contain spoilers)

SA/rape: Rhyme was literally born into slavery in a vampire coven. He was used for both his blood and his body. Nothing is ever on page but there are allusions to him being raped for his entire adult life by the coven and also forced to participate in the violation of his female friend because the vampires wanted to continue to grow their human resources by impregnating the humans and forcing them to have children. Fucking gross but nothing is explicitly on page.

Other person drama: None.

PNR, vampire x human, fated mates, second in a series (I read it standalone). 4.5 ⭐

Loved the beginning of this book! I did not read book 1, so it opens with Rhyme in the hospital with a vampire by his bed and finding out he's been rescued from his abusive vampire coven. But, he's still with vampires, so he still feels unsafe. At the first possible chance, he attempts suicide (this is chapter 1, on page). Iskander, the vampire watching over him, saves him. And so begins an extensive period of time where Iskander does everything possible to help Rhyme heal, mentally and physically. And Rhyme needs a lot of healing.

I really enjoyed this romance. Even when Rhyme heals so much, he comes to a point where he still feels responsible for taking on all the pain and torment his loved ones might suffer, too. But what I particularly enjoyed with this fact was when he told Iskander, "It's ok, I can take it." And Iskandar said to him, "But you can't. It broke you." It ends with a good message that I appreciated - you can't help anyone if it's killing you. You have to remember to care for yourself, too.

There was quite a bit at the end that maybe wasn't my total favorite, but overall this book was a really good one and I hope anyone that enjoys some good hurt/comfort/caretaking/mistrust to trust gives it a chance.

Rhyme opened his eyes and turned his head. The vampire knelt by the side of the tub. The sight almost made Rhyme want to laugh. To think that a vampire would kneel by his side.
"What's so funny?" Iskander asked, clearly picking up on the shift in his expression.
"Nothing." Rhyme smiled at him. "Just never thought I'd see you on your knees."
Without hesitation, Iskander took Rhyme's hand, brought it to his lips and kissed his knuckles. "I would kneel for you any day."

First I want to clarify that I have NOT read the first book, but that didn't stop me from understanding what the story was about and what happened before. Therefore, I would say that it can be read as a standalone.

I personally have no triggers and for me the whole book was light and easy to read, although it was imbued with a lot of emotions. Therefore, if you have sensitive topics, I recommend that you look at the trigger warning before starting it.

My real rating is 𝟑.𝟓 ⭐ but I'm rounding it up to 𝟒 ⭐ because I enjoyed the book overall.

I originally decided to start it because of the cover. The color red, the clouds behind the model, the barely noticeable towers of the castle... all this slightly made an association in me for a darker theme. And I have to be honest - the cover model is also beautiful.

Rhyme - this traumatized cutie, definitely warmed my heart. I wanted to hide it somewhere and not let anyone touch it. In truth, his character was somewhat contradictory. So much trauma, a terrible and painful past, pain and more pain, an unclear present and future. Still, I liked that it was despite the torment that he was able to find his happy ending.

Iskander was perfect, the perfect "monster" who would do anything to protect Rhyme's fragile heart, even if it meant giving up on him. In fact, his character was well fleshed out and we were able to see where he came from and where he is in the present.

The plot was focused on the dynamics of their relationship - there were heartbreaking moments, lots of emotions, vampires, fights and more.

What I personally did not reach for 5 stars is that I lacked more dynamics in the action. He, somehow, also smoothly and lightly went through the story and there was nothing super dramatic to hold him for any length of time. But overall, I enjoyed the book!

I feel like 3 stars is already pushing it but ok, I'll give it.
We start off perfectly so much better than book 1. Great, I'm super excited, I like the MCs.
But then all of a sudden and out of nowhere might I add, Iskander (?) realized Rhyme is his mate.
Like no intro no nothing, BAM he's my mate.
First of all can we all like , chill out with ridiculous names? WHYYYY? So many hot names to choose from and you go with these, it's just a travesty. But ok, artistic choice and all that.
Second of all, can we maybe not be repetitive about dialogues? Pretty please? No? Oh ok.
Third of all, props to the author for not putting the sex in the first 20% here as she did in the first book, that in itself ruined it. Here we get a bit of back and forth. The ridiculous part is, Rhyme absolutely traumatized by his previous experiences with vampires has, you guessed it, the hots for this vampire. But then he says to himself, repeatedly, what is wrong with me? Everything boo, but you're a book character so let's not be drama queens just randomly hmm? And then, 70-80% of the book when said vampire and his coven save his family from the first coven that breeds humans for food, our MC included, we get the same dumb sentences from his family, particularly his mother who is annoying as shit, if annoying could be a person that would be Melody, yeah that's his mother's name. It has no depth the author strived to show, it just sounds ridiculous. Isk bless his soul is tolerable most of the time, except when he also repeatedly has PRIMAL URGES AND NEED. Dude, chill. So it's better than the first one but still shouldn't be let in the ether without some heavy editing. I had to read it with breaks because otherwise I would break my Kindle, and that just wouldn't do. I really don't know what to say, after the dragon series, which was great, I don't think I'll read anymore from this author....

Love me some broken man finding a man that would go to the ends of the world to protect him and this book gave it in ABANDUNCE!

Loved and enjoyed every moment of this book! There were a few elements that I was iffy on, but I can't elaborate without spoiling anything and it was definitely a personal opinion thing and nothing to do with the writing of the author.

Isk was a freaking angel with Rhyme and I loved how freaking soft and protective he was. Rhyme has known a lot of pain and hurt and he finally found the one person who would protect him. The character growth from Rhyme was spectacular.

All in all a sweet vampire romance I can recommend.

Rhyme and Iskander ❤️

3.5 Stars ⭐️

Fated mates/ vamp & human, surprisingly sweet ❤️ much like the last book in this series, steam was there too. I also enjoyed the sweetness of this read in an otherwise dark universe, I still have unanswered questions so I will continue with this series 😉. I would recommend especially for those who've read the first book.

Hafif spoiler olabilir.

Birinci kitaptan daha çok sevdim. Aksiyonda daha iyiydi. Aslında bu okumada puanım 4.50'ye kadar yükselebilirdi. Çünkü bu sefer karakterlerin duygusal derinliği vardı. İlk yarıda kalbimi ağırlaştıran sahneler vardı. Ama bunlar waow diyebileceğim büyük sahneler değildi. Daha ziyade basit ama anlamlı anlardı.

Karakterleri daha çok beğendim. Yine karakterler hakkında fiziksel olarak pek fazla detaya sahip değildik. Özellikle Rhyme için. Sadece kahverengi saçlı kahve gözlü olarak yazılmıştı. Ben de kapaktaki karakteri hayal ettim. Ona uyuyordu.

Belirsizliklerden nefret ediyorum. Eğer vampire dönüştürülmeden ruh eşi bağı ölümsüz yapıyorsa, ilk kitapta Swen neden ölümsüz olmak zorunda kaldı? Tüm bunlar kafa karıştırıcı.

This is book two in the Rubyville series. I would recommend reading book one so that way you have the history behind the main MC's in this book - this is just my opinion. It is recommended that you read the trigger warnings before reading.

Rhyme who we met towards the end of book 1 has always been a blood slave and has experienced such a horrible life. He always offered up himself so that no one else in his family would have to do it. When he gets rescued from the coven he was sold too, he doesn't know how to take or think about his rescuers being vampire and now in their coven. He has a long recovery to overcome but also has the chance to get revenge on the vampires who did him wrong and mistreated him.

Iskander, the vampire, knows that Rhyme is his mate. As soon as he helps rescue him from the other coven, he becomes very protective of Rhyme. He is the one that is protecting him and keeping all others away. He helps Rhyme with his recovery and will do anything for him. He wants Rhyme to have a better future and make his own choices. When he has to take Rhyme into hiding and then go after one of the coven leaders for what he did to Rhyme, he doesn't expect his mate to be there. He will stop at nothing to make sure his mate is protected and safe.

Rhyme & Iskander have battles that they will need to overcome. When Rhyme is made aware of the mate thing, this is something that he has to overcome and decide if he wants to be with Iskander for the rest of his life. Iskander will need to learn to not push his mate away and let his mate make decisions for himself, no matter if Iskander thinks it's the wrong one. Both of them show the love that they have for each other and the emotions that they both go through, shows them how they matter to each other and how strong they are.

I really enjoyed this story just as much as the first one. You connect with the MC's and can feel the strong emotions throughout the book. Such a great paranormal romance and love how the vampires are different then most you read about.

#I received an ARC from GRR and this is my honest review.

Moving melancholic and romantic hurt-comfort MM vampire romance

Emotional and gripping, Mate Me, Save Me caught my heart from word one and never let go. I was rooting for former blood sl@ve Rhyme all the way, and sympathized with his protector and secret mate, vampire Iskander, tasked with watching over him and unable to tell Rhyme what he means to him due to the heartbreaking circumstances. TWs for self-unaliving attempt on page and other mentions of SA and violence; do heed them.

Protective Iskander is a strong hero, who is determined to set Rhyme free from the start, wanting him to have every choice he never had before, rather than risking claiming him and potentially putting him in a position not of his choosing. His unconditional care and love for Rhyme as he recovers from a life of being used by truly evil vampires shines throughout the story, and his actions against Rhyme’s main abuser are deeply satisfying to read. Iskander truly would have let Rhyme go; he wanted only what was best for his Person, even if that was a life without him.

Rhyme’s struggle with his undeniable draw to this vampire he should hate and fear is palpable and real and not easy for them to work through, but the connection between them carries the story and keeps hope alive even when things seem impossible. I loved it. And having Iskander let Rhyme take the lead physically offered beautiful, healing and steamy moments.

There’s one plot thread regarding another captive human, Rhyme’s best friend, that I could have done without, but many will appreciate the depth it brings to the story. I felt one action Iskander offered to Rhyme and took early on to help Rhyme with that element was foolish and a poor decision on both their parts—and hey, I was right!—but it didn’t keep me from loving the story overall.

HEA, hurt-comfort, vampire-human, fated mates, PNR. No cheating or emotional cheating or any others at all. Recommended.

My thanks to Gay Romance Reviews for the complimentary copy. This is my own opinion.

Please make sure you read the content warnings before you start this book. This book features a lot of different serious topics, so please make sure you proceed with caution!

While this story does feature heavy topics, they are handled very well, and with care. I felt so bad and horrified reading about all the horrific things that Rhyme went through, and all the things he was forced to do. It was so terrible, and I don't blame him at all for not trusting Isk right away.

This book is more of a slow burn, with good reason. It wouldn't make sense to the characters if their relationship was rushed, it had to be slow because that's what made the most sense. Rhyme had to heal, and learn gradually that he could trust Isk, and that Isk wasn't going to treat him like how every other vampire did. I loved how Isk supported Rhyme, and how he kept showing up. He kept proving with his actions that he wasn't going to treat Rhyme as others did, he showed him that he respects him and cares about him.

The pacing of this story was great, as were the characters. I enjoyed getting the full backstory about what Rhyme went through, and slowly uncovering more information as the story progresses. I do wish we got to learn more about Isk but that's a minor thing.

The end of this book I think was the best part! Seeing Rhyme realize his worth, and coming to terms with the fact that he can put himself first, that he can want things and want to prioritize them. Rather than just doing anything everyone else wanted. That was a lot of growth, and there was a bunch of character development that occured in this story, which I enjoyed reading! This book was tragic, upsetting, but also was so very beautiful, and poignant. I highly recommend this book, just please make sure you read the trigger warnings first.

Rhyme is a young blood slave who has known nothing but torture, pain, and degradation at the hands of vampires. He believes that all vampires are the same. After being sold to another coven, then rescued by a third coven, he wants nothing more than to escape by whatever means necessary. He doesn't trust this new coven.

But Iskander is his vampire mate, unbeknownst to Rhyme, and will do anything to see Rhyme healthy and happy, even if that means sacrificing his own happiness in the process. And he is determined to see that Rhyme's abusers receive the punishment they deserve.

Iskander's character was amazing. The way he was so patient with Rhyme and gave him everything he needed was beautiful. Rhyme was also so brave and strong. As he gradually comes to see that not all vampires are the same, he finds renewed strength and plays a significant role in seeking justice for himself and others.

This was the first book I read by this author and I was very impressed. The world-building was unique and entertaining and the writing was wonderful. I probably would have gotten more out of this book than I did had I read the first book in the series too, but I didn't feel like I was lacking anything in terms of understanding the plot or the world.

The action scene with Rhyme's primary abuser and the closing to his plotline seemed a bit rush for how much of a role he played in everything that happened to Rhyme and how very awful he was. I would have liked to see more on-page justice for all of Rhyme's abusers. The ending with Rhyme's family and where he and Iskander ended up was heartwarming and beautiful.

I do recommend this book, but heed the TWs. The trauma that Rhyme endured was significant. The author treated it with care and worded things as gently as possible, but anyone with trauma in their past or triggers needs to be careful.

4 stars. Thankfully back to form for Silvana - unfortunately I didn't enjoy the first book "Caller of Crows" in this series as felt the plot was actually quite muddy, unusual for this author, plus didn't like Altair as was overwhelmingly cruel and a killer. Sad as loved the title and anything with Crows is usually worth reading.

This second book in the series is the story of the boy/man who was rescued by Altair with Sven, only by Sven's insistence when they were both trapped in the house of Altair's brother. Rhyme (his mother's name is Melody :)) was born a blood slave and his natural defence was to starve himself so that the blood is inferior. Now in the Altair's coven, he has to adjust to a new freed life and he doesn't believe any of it.

Iskander is his healer and protector, and their bond is almost immediate. I really enjoyed how this relationship and trust by Rhyme developed and there are more information about this alternative world inhabited by dragons and vampires.

BTW I tried to find Iskander in the first book, I thought there had been mention of him but couldn't find it.

Lovely read, recommended.

Rhyme has known nothing in his short life but suffering, degradation, and abuse. Now he has been told he has been rescued but he knows vampires and they do not rescue. Iskander is the vampire assigned to protect Rhyme. He takes one look at Rhyme and knows he is special. He resolves to do anything to keep him safe. He just has to convince Rhyme of that, especially when his own past is a bit iffy.

So much is going on in this story. Rhyme was born and raised to be a toy and food for vampires. He cannot conceive of that changing. Iskander has been in a bad place until he was accepted into his present coven. He has become such a better vampire since that happened. Rhyme has much to deal with and watching him grow and change was amazing to read. Iskander was incredible in his own way allowing Rhyme that chance to grow and be his own man. Their happily ever after is never sure thing. To find out how he gets there you will need to read this captivating story.
I was supplied a complimentary copy containing five stories, and my honest and voluntary review is provided with pleasure.

A Rescue and Loving Mate

At the end of book one, Rhyme is a human blood slave rescued by Altair and Sven's coven.
He helped Sven and he is underweight, malnourished, scared and has suicidal thoughts.
Altair wants him to testify against the coven that bought him and abused him.
But Rhyme wants more, he wants the first coven that sold him and hurt his family.
Iskander is the vampire charged with guarding and caring for Rhyme as he slowly recovers in a hospital bed.
And he instantly recognises Rhyme as his mate.
Rhyme is of course slow to trust these vampires after a life filled with abuse, yet through his mate discovers new delights, like hot chocolate and comfy clothes.
He also has an anchor to help him through his nightmares and PTSD.
It's a little slow going at first but it's an engaging story and Iskander is very sweet and caring slowly gaining his mate's trust and love.
There's also the ongoing back story of the fight against the evil covens.
There are moments of fun, and you get your HEA.
A decent instalment in the series and I'm curious to see which one we get next.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I enjoyed this book more than book 1 and thought that it was a good addition to the Rubyville Vampires Series, which is a spin-off to the Last Mortals Series that I haven’t read yet. Rhyme was born and raised in a vampire coven, he only knows the life of a blood slave and that all vampires are sadistic, manipulative monsters. Iskander knows as soon as he first lays eyes on Rhyme that he’s his. He wants to protect Rhyme, even if it’s from himself after all the trauma he’s suffered through. I loved the care, kindness and compassion Iskander showed Rhyme and he slowly earned Rhyme’s trust. I really liked how he got Rhyme to initially eat by eating a bite of food for each bite that Rhyme took so he could suffer alongside Rhyme since eating mortal food makes a vampire ill. I liked that we got to see a bit more of the outside world in this book than the first book.

I enjoyed how their relationship progressed as it made perfect sense with everything Rhyme has suffered through. I really liked how honest Iskander was with Rhyme even if it was hard for Rhyme to hear like that he possibly could’ve helped Rhyme’s old coven get away with all the horrible sh*t that they’d done to him, to countless others by using his gifts of erasing memories. He was under his old coven’s rule before Altair offered him the choice of moving to his coven. He didn’t use it as an excuse though he just explained to Rhyme that he’s no longer that same vampire he once was. How he’s also treated Rhyme helped show this, more than his words could. I loved how Iskander never pressured Rhyme and allowed him to finally make choices for himself, he just wants him healthy and happy. I’m looking forward to reading the next book. It’s Mordyn’s turn next. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.

******I received a complimentary copy of this book through GRR. I would still happily review this book even if I purchased it myself. My thoughts and feelings about this book are completely unbiased******

Different take on a vampire love story

Silvana Falcon does a good job of taking the usual vampire romance and adding something interesting to it. Rhyme is a victim of vampires and is saved by Islander’s coven. Starts out pretty traditional, but I liked how it’s not instant love even for Isk who sees Rhyme and knows he is his. Ms Falcon has created an interesting character in Rhyme and portrays him as realistically as could be imagining him as a victim of PTSD who has never known anything but living with awful conditions. Ms. Falcon never falls into cliches and Rhyme doesn’t come across as just a victim or stupid because of things like never being taught to read. I loved the way Rhyme is portrayed as he experiences all these new to him things and the fact that he still keeps trying even with all he has been through.

Ok, if the first book was dark, this was down right midnight with no moon. The first book hints at how vampires may treat humans but as Altair isn't really a bad guy, you don't really see all the dark, just know it happens.
As property of vampires, Rhyme experiences horrific things at the hands of the vampire coven he was with. His trauma and how he and Iskander work through it is a good portion of the book. I honestly had quite a few times that I didn’t see how they would manage to find their ways to each other. But I couldn't put this book down. This world may be dark but it draws you in and doesn't let go.

Rhyme was a blood slave. He couldn’t read, he’d never shopped or even been in a store. His whole life was nothing but pain and despair. He was a total failure, he tried, but couldn’t even kill himself. He knew he was doomed to feed vampires until he died. Then Iskander enter his life. Protective, kind, and most likely an evil liar.

I liked the main characters but there was something lacking. I had issues with them together. Their relationship moved fairly fast. I felt that Rhyme’s history as vampire food was glossed over a bit so he could start his ever after with Iskander.

I liked the story well enough to continue reading the series.

I received an arc of this book.

Reading this my heart just broke for Rhyme and the treatment (actually mistreatment and abuse) he suffered at his captors hands on a daily basis. I liked that with time Iskander was able to show him all vamps aren't the same. Isk had the patience of Jobe and went at Rhyme's pace to ensure he knew he was safe and cared for. Isk was extremely patient with Rhyme's family and earning their trust which melted my heart. This was an emotional rollercoaster of a read, and I'm looking forward to the next book.

Loved the first book in this series and this was a brilliant addition. A well written, interesting vampire romance storyline with great descriptive detail especially for the characters which helps you understand them. Rhyme has been on such an emotional journey and has to learn to trust again but luckily Iskander is perfect for him as he is so patient and caring. A brilliant heart warming epilogue with them both getting what they deserved.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

4.5 Stars

A rescued despondent blood slave and the strong sensitive vampire in charge of protecting him; what a beautiful and dark romance. Lots of CWs because this human’s been through hell, but it was so wonderful watching him heal and feeling love for the first time. I loved this. Honestly could’ve been stretched into another book, but I think it ended well too.

Spice: 4/5
Angst: 4/5

A wonderful follow up in the Rubyville Vampire series. I was so happy to see that Rhyme got his own book and that we got to see his trials and tribulations as he healed and sought justice for the blood slaves left behind.
Wonderfully written, with just the right amount of spice to keep even the hardcore smut lover entertained. But a beautifully written story about finding out who you are and how to love and heal yourself.

An enjoyable follow up to Caller of Crows. Iskander and Rhyme are an ultimate hurt/comfort couple. I felt the desperate fear the encased Rhyme and Iskander a calm soothing comfort. Their relationship moved at a steady. I think if had been a slow burn I wouldn't have continued. Rhyme's fear turning into inner strength; and Iskander realizing he deserved a mate and love vibed well.
My only issue is with his mother. But like most stories parents can suck.

so good

This book is unlike any MM book I have ever read. It’s so deep in more ways than one (trying not to spoil the good stuff). Is it spicy yes but also a welcoming medium burn level as the how and why’s are so important with the character development. I love this book. It was captivating. Think I read it in two days lol

Great storyline and plot. Always nice to have a storyline with the steam/smut. Great human x vampire book.

I didn’t feel the chemistry with the MCs though. One min bam insta lust. Nothing that lead into it. I personally need to feel the connection to get into the steamy parts.

The ending with his family I wasn’t into. But that’s my preference and not anything bad about the book.

Great Addition to Series

This book was multifaceted, and I became invested in the MCs. I was rooting for them, especially as it came to overcoming trauma. I was glad to see love and support provided.

I read this book before the fist one and understood everything perfectly.

A wounded human who has suffered unimaginable abuse at the hands of a cruel vampire coven. Is rescued by a coven who will show him not all vampire’s are the same.
