Note from the This book was previously published as "Robins in the Snow" Several readers suggested a new title might be an improvement, so it has been changed to hopefully improve reader enjoyment.. There is nothing Lisa Portland wants more than to have her faithful companion "Bear" see another spring. But old man winter just won't give up! When an early spring storm shatters the calm of her everyday life, will she have the strength and the faith to keep believing? If you love heartwarming romance and dog stories, then this charming dog romance novella is sure to please!
Bear, a big 100+ pound dog , was nearing the end of his days. Lisa, his longtime mom, was standing at the front picture window looking out at the snow and praying that Bear would make it to at least see his last spring and the birth of her first child. Preparing to take Bear out for a needed potty break, she donned hat, gloves, parka and scarf as it was snowing and very cold out there. Normally she would let Bear out alone but in his advanced years, he was both blind and deaf. She went with him because he was unleashed and she feared he would venture too far out into the thick forest and get lost. Just as she stepped out onto the porch her iPad's text alert sounded. Torn as to wether to ignore it or not, she decided to check to see if it was Tom, her husband. Figuring it would only take a few seconds, she stepped back into the house. As soon as she stepped on the tiled floor, down she fell landing on her butt and crying out in pain. She was at least able to call 911 before she passed out. If Bear could hear he would have been at the front door standing guard when the ambulance arrived. Trusting that Lisa was nearby, he began his walk without her, going too far out before he realized that Lisa wasn't with him. He turned back to return but couldn't pick up her scent. If only he could hear, he would have barked when the sirens approached and been found. Since he was deaf, he wandered further into unknown territory. The snow was thick then started to change to rain. Bear was getting mighty tired and stopped to rest as soon as he reached a dry spot under a fir tree. Meanwhile Tom had reached the and found Lisa safe in bed. Relieved that she and the baby were fine, he asked her what had happened. When she remembered, she realized that Bear was out in bad weather alone and cold. Before Lisa got too worked up, Tom determined that he wasn't on the porch when the EMTs had arrived and began the trek home to search for their dog. After an hour or so, he checked with their closet neighbor to see if Bear had wandered there. With no luck, Tom started back to his place when he thought he heard whimpering nearby. He called out, knowing that Bear couldn't hear him, and despite the odds the whimpering grew louder. Tom found not only Bear but the puppy who was stuck in a thorn patch. Bear had found him after he had rested and was trying again to find home. He stayed with the pup hoping they would both be found. Tom took them both back to the cabin and cleaned and fed them both. With one worry replaced with another, Tom arrived at the hospital to find Lisa waiting for news. Upon hearing about Bear's remarkable discovery she couldn't wait to get home. What follows is a tale of rescue, uncertainty and most of all, love. Highly recommended...
If you Read "Bear" you read Robins in the Snow. Little confusing as the title was changed.. The book starts with a hook, I was hooked by the cover and the very beginning. Was very emotional for me. Not giving anything away the dog goes missing in the first chapter. I did enjoy the book, no spoilers, it tells us at the beginning, the enevitable. It did leave me feeling sad. I get choked up just thinking about it. The characters are very devoted pet owners and the journey to find Bear is pretty good.
I enjoyed reading this book so much because I'm also very much a DOG lover myself. This book also had special significance to me because we currently have a little black and white part female Terrier named Sadie who we adopted from a shelter. She's the Sweetest thing and we Love her so much.
This book was so short it was barely a book. The characters got developed a little and then it abruptly ended. I didn't expect a great novel but it would have been very easy to keep it going with the birth of the baby. antics with the puppy, lots of material that didn't get developed. Bears passing was a footnote but was the whole point in the beginning???
I'm a bit confused. My Kindle has this listed as "Bear", but the author is the same for both books. So I'm hoping that somewhere (possibly Amazon) could correct the incorrect title.
Other than that, it was an easy and quick read. I love books about all animals, more so about dogs. I have kept this on my Kindle as I'm sure my granddaughter would like to read this.
Thumbs up to author. She is obviously a person who loves animals This is a touching story including a very much loved senior dog and desires for today and future as situations change and at same time stay the same.
I loved this very loving short story! I'm a dog lover and this was a very good story of a caring Lisa that made all things happen right. 👍👍💓 for the love of Bear Sadie and Hoover! Loved your book. Must read more dog stories
The bond that is shared between a person and their pet is very special. Each relationship is different and unique. This story is about the last days of a very close bond.
That was a wonderful novel to read. It not only showed that people were really good with their dogs beginning and the end. Just like I was with Gypsy and Nick who I hope got a good home. Thanks, Kit Ryan
This book was awesome! It made me feel like I was watching it all transpired. The love that I have for dogs rekindled in my heart. I could sense the writers enthusiasm. Thank you for a terrific time of reading😀 .
Bear and Sadie loved their owners with unconditional ❤ love. Sadie lost her life trying to protect her pups. Bear was old but lived a long life with loving owners. If you enjoy dog stories you will enjoy this book.
I loved this book, the warmth, and, as usual, the dogs. I felt her pain, at the thought of losing her old dog. The way she cared for the lady named Millie , and the dog who belonged to her. Really great book, by an excellent writer.
This is such a great book. It brought back memories of my little adopted dog named SADIE. She passed on about a year ago. I cried so much because I loved her so much.😂😍.
I have just read the last of Dana's books. I enjoyed each and every one. I recommend them all to any and every pet lover out there. Thank you so much for the heart warming tales.
Animals...just dumb creatures? People would do well in this world, to take lessons from dogs! They can lead us to be better people! Great writing, Dana.
Being a dog person and one that has lost a wonderful companion recently this story made me happy and sad. I think it says a lot about the author when she can make her readers feel such emotions. I would highly recommend this book to all dog lovers.
An amazing short story about unconditional love, loss, and moving on- and how dogs help us humans to learn to deal with the cycles of life-comparing it to the ever changing cycles of the seasons-Spring,Summer,Fall,and Winter.
