What to expect: - Dark Romantasy - Enemies to Lovers - Forbidden Romance - Forced Proximity - Secrets Revealed - Strong FMC - Found Family - Magic - Hidden Powers
'Awakening the Dark Throne' by Jessica Disciacca pulled me in from the start. I devoured this book in one sitting. I simply could not put it down. The last fantasy books I read were those in the ACOTAR series, and I've been looking for more fantasy stories. This one blew me away! I can't believe this is Jessica's debut.
The book is well-written, and the world-building had me completely immersed. Although some elements are similar to those of other fantasy books, there are elements completely unique to this story. The author sprinkles in historical, Norse, and religious elements, which I loved. I also enjoyed the darker themes. Some topics could be triggering, so please check all content and trigger warnings.
I immediately loved the characters. The FMC Genevieve, half human and half alfar, spends her life hiding from those who feel her kind should not exist. She is brave, strong, smart, resourceful, selfless, and does what is necessary to help care for her found siblings. It was fun witnessing her grow throughout the story, and I rooted for her. I loved how the author combined fantasy with current social issues.
'Awakening the Dark Throne' has an incredible storyline and is action-packed. There is a forbidden romance, secrets revealed, great relationships, magic, humor, court politics, and karma served. The ending has me looking forward to the next book!
Thanks to Jessica Disciacca and Asturian House Press for the e-ARC. Opinions expressed are my own.
If you enjoyed ACOTAR, Awakening the Dark Throne is definitely worth the read. Fast-paced with politics, action, and romance. Enjoyed this read and looking forward to the next book.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this book! This review expresses my personal opinions only.
Awakening The Dark Throne is one heck of a debut!
This book was such an adventure from the start. Gen is half human, half alfar and shouldn’t exist. She has lived her young life in the human world fearing the light and dark worlds of the alfar. When her sister is taken by the dark alfar, Gen doesn’t think twice about finding a way to rescue her even if it puts her own life in immediate danger.
I love Gen’s selflessness and determination. She is strong, smart, and witty. I can’t help but admire how she navigated even the darkest parts of this book.
I also loved that the book has numerous mystical beings in it, but they are navigating real world problems. Think: people who are different and are therefore outcast, being taken (in multiple ways) against their will, etc. The author did a wonderful job of blending the current issues into this mystical world!
I’m really looking forward to reading what comes next!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK. I highly recommend it. I will be re-reading it.
Awakening the Dark Throne is the first book of a five-part series, and I cannot believe I will have to wait for four more books to be released because this is SOOOOOO good. I NEED to know how the story continues!
Brief Synopsis: The story is about a half human-half elven young woman named Gen, whose sister, Lily, has been captured by the dark elven court. Gen offers herself up to the light elven court, with the intentions of somehow using this to her advantage to get to Lily to save her. (Elves in this story are called alfar.)
Some of the things I really loved the most: *mixture of old fantasy creatures (fairies, nymphs, angels, demons) and newly created creatures (ragamor, unnamed but described creatures) *distinction between the different alfar factions with reasonings *interwoven, interpersonal connections between characters *dialogue is well written and feels genuine *descriptions of settings, people, creatures are so well done I feel like I can see them *elements of humor
This author left me wanting more, which is a huge plus in my book.
TW/CW: themes of violence, including sexual assault
ARC review ✨ This fantasy was wonderfully written and had me wanting more after every chapter! I truly felt like this was a page turner and hit every one of my fantasy needs in a semi dark fantasy world. Gen has offered herself to go live amongst the dreaded light Alfar ( fae) in order to hopefully find a way to the horrendous night realm of the fae in hopes to save her sister. The fae make monthly rounds to the human court to gather “offerings” to use them as they please and have servants in the light court. While in the night court she befriends a fae and wonders if really they are all that bad and is courted to the future king in which she hesitantly almost falls for. Afterall can he steer away from their values in order to stop the cruel treatments towards “humans” While the dark and light court work together to try and solve a common problem it is reveals our strong Gen isn’t quite who she thinks she is
I truly felt her pain as she endured what she did with the king and felt her desperation and understand the methods she had to take in order to get out of that predicament. This was an amazing 5/5 star read with 2/5 🌶️ I recommend to all!!! I am excited for you guys to enjoy this world on release date !

“The greatest power comes from surviving the darkest of nights”
I am obsessed with this book! It was such a breath of fresh air compared to other fantasy I have read. This story had a whole new race of people and tons of new magical creates. I loved Genevieve, and was heart broken with everything she had to endure. This book has several heavy topics it dives into. I enjoyed that the author did this because it made the characters more real and relatable. I also really enjoyed the world building and magic system. There was a lot of attention to detail that made me feel like I was apart of the story. I loved so many of the characters especially Erendrial! I hope we get to learn more about him and the dark court in the next book!
"𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺.” • This book had me in a chokehold towards the end. It started off slow but quick to catch on. Genevieve sacrificed herself to save her sister; who was taken from their family pack back in “The Frey.” And after that her world wasn’t the same. She meets up with Lord Gaelin Atros who takes her over to the other side where the Alfar are. Humans are seen and not heard on this side of the realm. They are treated as property and not respected. And Genevieve has a hard journey alongside Gaelin, that turns tragic. However, you do not see her revenge coming. The way this was played out was so powerful. And you wanted this so bad for her. I freaking loved the plot twists. Gaelin is our golden retriever Lord, says and does the right thing according to his kingdoms laws. Attempts to be Genevieve’s knight and shining armor. For me though, he wasn’t cutting it. Sorry lol. He could have done better. • But lemme get around to our misty silver eyed fox, Erendrial Lyklor. “Dark, rebellious, scary, and intimidating...yet beautiful,” as Genevieve puts it. Sums it all up, haha. He was very fun to read about. And I cannot wait to read more of him and Genevieve in the next book. *because I’m waiting on that, Miss Jessica ma’am! Lolol.
Also, thank you for bringing Levos into our lives in this book. He is just the champion that Genevieve needed by her side.
Jessica, I have truly loved this novel you have written and thank you to you and and Asturian House Press for providing me an early copy! It was everything I wanted in a dark fantasy novel. I ate. It. Up. Very grateful and cannot wait for the next installment!! • Recommend if you love: - 𝘿𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝙍𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙨𝙮 - 𝙀𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨 - 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙗𝙞𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙍𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 - 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙭𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙮 - 𝙎𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙙 - 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙈𝘾 - 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙮 - 𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙘 - 𝙃𝙞𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙋𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙨
I'm fully bought into the world Jessica Ann Disciacca has created in Awakening the Dark Throne. The setting, characters, magic system, and plot are all well-developed and kept me engaged. I'm really intrigued to see how these relationships develop and change in the next book.
I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 stars because there were some modern phrases and word choices used throughout the book that took me out of the story several times, although I was able to re-engage easily. Honestly, a pretty minor issue, but it influenced my particular brain enough. I'm sure most other brains wouldn't even notice or be bothered.
And that, my friends, is the only note I have. Otherwise, I absolutely loved this world and the characters and creatures within it.
I really, really like FMC Genevieve. I appreciate seeing her navigate her trauma and the journey she takes from an already strong person to becoming a pretty badáss bítch. We got a good glimpse of it, and can't wait to see her step into her power - I truly hope that's what's coming in book 2.
Oh, and does anyone else want that tattoo?
I'm dying to see how things end up with Gaelin. I was trying to forecast and puzzle it out the entire time I was reading, and I still don't know where we're ultimately going with him and Genevieve. I mean, obviously he can't be endgame here, so how is this going to unfold?
I hope I get a lot more of Eeri in book 2, because - my heart.
"Awakening the Dark Throne" by Jessica Disciacca completely blew me away!
Right from the title, I sensed there would be some jaw-dropping twists, but the ending still caught me off guard. I found myself deeply invested in the characters, especially Gen, rooting for her every step of the way.
⚠️ Make sure to check the trigger warnings before reading this book. ⚠️
The book tackled some heavy topics, which I felt like the author handled with great sensitivity and care.
Honestly, I'm already looking forward to continuing this series—I can't wait to see where the story goes next!
If you need to scratch the ACOTAR itch, this is worth the read. Fast paced, filled with engaging characters, hidden identities, romance, magic, and far court politics. Looking forward to book 2 because I need to know where the story goes first the FMC. I received an ARC of this book and all opinions are my own.
✨️✨️AWAKENING THE DARK THRONE ✨️✨️will be the answer when someone asks me for my favourite book. It has been so long since I enjoyed a book this much . This book is soooooo good. 💚 I could tell from the cover that the book would be good, but it was more than that. From the first chapter, I was so invested and couldn't stop reading. The writing is perfect, and i had to stop myself from finishing it in one sitting 🤣. This book reminded me of when i first started reading and how happy it made me feel. Genevieve is such a strong, smart, and badass girl. It is so easy to love her. She is there for everyone and wants to help the best she can. She didn't lose her spark even when people would treat her badly. I love her relationship with her "siblings," especially Lily. She went through so much, and it hurt me to read what she went through 🥺. She is one of my favourite FMC's ever. Im so sad that this book wasn't longer. Thank you so much, Asturian House Press and the author Jessica Ann Disciacca, for sending me an arc copy of this book.
Awakening the Dark Throne By: Jessica Ann Disciacca Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 Spice: 🌶️🌶️
I had never read a book where a majority of the characters were elves and/or other mythical creatures. That will change after this book. It is beautifully written. From the description of the church basement where Gen lives to the land of the Light Alfar live, you can picture it all. The storyline is fantastic. There isn’t so much detail that it’s boring. You never know what the next page is going to bring. In this first book you are taken on a rollercoaster of events that make it impossible to put the book down. The ending was perfect for this first book and has left me wanting/needing the second book ASAP. This book was so good in so many ways.
Wow... I almost have no words for the rollercoaster of emotions this story took me on. It was fast-paced, funny, and romantic, and I honestly want a best friend like Levos. The twist at the end genuinely had me shocked ! I seriously can not wait to read the next one !
My only complaint is I felt that some spots in the story felt rushed/not as flushed out as they could have been!
Overall, my experience was very positive, and I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
Thank you so much to the author, Jessica, for sending it to me to review and for giving me this amazing opportunity! ❤️
It’s hard not to get sucked in from the first page. The detail and imagination instantly immerses you into a brand new world.
I truly enjoyed getting to know each of the characters in this book. They all had more depth than I’m used to finding in books from this genre. When I thought I knew what was going to happen something would take an unexpected twist. It’s been a while since I truly enjoyed a book this much.
I loved this book so much that I bought it to give to friends because I want to keep Jessica writing. This is the best book in its genre. Hands down will recommend!
OH MY GOD YOU GUYS!!!! I PRIDE myself on honest reviews. Especially ARC reviews.
This book was INCREDIBLE!!!! It takes a lot for me to give 5 stars and this book deserves ALL of them!! I can’t f****** wait for book 2 and I hope it’s even 3x as long!! 😂
The work building = chefs 💋 The characters= chefs 💋 The romance = chefs 💋 (and I KNOW it’s going to get even better!) 🤞🤞🤞 THE HUMOR = chefs 💋💋💋💋💋
I think Jessica has become one of my all time favorite authors. This book was so incredible.
This book was one of the EASIEST 5 ⭐️ I have ever given! I started it before bed only to wake up and finish it the next morning. I read a different book by this author over the summer and it landed a spot on my all time Faves list. This one actually tops that and I still haven’t picked my jaw up off the floor!
Perfect for fans of Acotar and ANGSTY forbidden romance!! I was legit choking up with emotion during portions of this, and eventually sobbing at the injustice! This was the best kind of emotional rollercoaster as the FMC eventually takes her destiny into her own hands and unleashes horror to exact revenge on her enemies! The execution was stunning!
Add this to your TBR if you love: 🖤 Dark Romantasy 🗡️ Enemies-to-Lovers 🧝♂️ Forbidden Romance 💓 Angst and Tension 💨 Forced Proximity 🖤 Found Family ✨ Magic and Redemption ❤️🩹Emotional and Physical Scars ⚡️ Mythical Creatures 🐉 Dragons, Elves, Fairies, Demons 🤫 Dark Secrets ⚔️ War and Political Intrigue
Genevieve is a forbidden half-breed that finds herself at the Light Court in a reckless attempt to save the sister taken by the cruel Dark Court. Her scheming is disrupted when the future King, Gaelin, takes her as his concubine and she finds herself in a precarious position trying to conceal her identity and the emerging power within her, while navigating her growing affection towards Gaelin and her elven friend, Levos. He is my favorite character and the absolute best friend anyone could ask for. Their banter was perfect!
The relationship between Gen and Gaelin is a slow burn, forbidden romance, doomed from the very beginning due to race and their positions in society. She was never meant to be more than his servant, but his developing feelings for her puts a target on her back and triggers the wrath of the current King and his daughter, Gaelin’s betrothed.
She suffers horrible abuse at the hands of them both. Their cruelty breaks her and awakens a ruthless desire for revenge as she embraces a darkness within herself. When she is on the verge of discovery as a traitor and half breed, the Dark Court’s Ambassador Erendrial Lyklor swoops in and whisks her away to claim her position as heir to the Dark Throne in an exciting turn of events! He also happens to be the mysterious elven male that has frequented her dreams for years and believed her when she came to him about her visions. (Obviously, I’m excited to see where that leads, but I also love Gaelin and he is NOT a Tamlin, so don’t try and convince me otherwise.)
This book had it all- if the sequel weren’t so close to its release date then I would be REELING!
First of all, I want to say how honored I am to have been chosen to receive an ARC of this book! This book is the author's debut, and let me tell you, she is already a fantastic writer, and I cannot wait to see how she grows with each book she writes.
Now to the book...
This is a compelling tale of humans vs elves, magic, secrets, betrayal, and twists and turns.
The FMC Genevieve is a half-breed, part human, part elf, in a world where half-breeds are forbidden and killed. She is hiding among the humans to keep her identity a secret. Her world is turned upside down when her "sister" Lily is taken by the nefarious dark court alfars (elves), whose stories involve torture, mistreatment, and sacrifice of humans. In an attempt to save her sister, Genevieve offers herself up to the light court alfars, where she has a plan to escape the light court and venture to the dark court to find Lily. However, her plan is derailed when she is taken as the mistress of the future king, Gaelin, who she begins to have feelings for in the midst of new beasts entering their world through the rift and the introduction of the dark alfars into the light court. With that, there is the introduction of Ambassador Lyklor, the mysterious, fast-talking, and conniving dark alfar who resembles the mystery man in her dreams. But she can't trust him. Her one trustee, Levos, knows something is off. To top it all off, Genevieve begins to foresee the future and the upcoming war between elves and beasts. Genevieve must endure trauma, abuse, lies, betrayal, and more on her quest to find and save her sister and move on to the future she hopes for.
This book is full of mystery and leaves you continuously wondering what you are going to learn or find out next. The characters in this book are all well-connected in one way or another. The characters' trauma is gut-wrenching and really makes you feel for them. The world descriptions throughout the book give you a great visual picture to conjure. The creatures and beasts of the world are a mix of old favorites, such as fairies, as well as new ones, like ragamors, smaller dragon-like creatures. The villain of the story changes based on time and perception, which kept me on my toes. The ending of the book left my mind blown and wanting more. I cannot wait for this story to continue in the next books!
Tropes:
• Dark romantasy • Elves • Enemies to lovers • Beasts • Forbidden love • Magic • Premonitions • Forced Proximity • Hidden Powers • Strong FMC • Mysterious male interest ... And more!
Please be mindful of the trigger warnings before reading this book, and remember to take care of yourself.
It has been a while since I’ve had a book keep me up all night to finish it. This book did it. I read a few chapters, then the next evening I really dived into it and it was AMAZING. Quick synopsis: elves are referred to as alfar. There are the Light Alfar and the Dark Alfar. The Light Alfar, while they sound good, are really just the lesser of two evils when you consider humans. There are other magical creatures mentioned like faeries and nymphs but the faeries eat human flesh and the nymphs dress like the Croods.
Genevieve is a half breed- half human, half Alfar. By Alfar laws, she shouldn’t have even been born but her human mother hid her and kept her safe until she died when Gen was 11. She’s since been an orphan and has been taken in by a local Catholic Church, along with some other orphaned children. One of them, Lilian, is the closest thing that Gen has to a sister. When she’s kidnapped by the Dark Alfar and taken as a slave, Gen offers herself to the Light Alfar as an “indentured servant” to get closer to the lands that Lily were stolen away too.
While Gen is in the Light Alfar’s lands, she becomes mistress to the future king, and while she makes a friend, she also goes through a lot of suffering. Because even though they call it indentured servitude it’s really just slavery and all the humans are treated poorly with no choice in what they do or who they sleep with, men or women.
We meet members of the Dark Alfar court and fantastical magical creatures that would make your skin crawl. There were times that I smiled, and times that I cried. There were even times that I shivered or broke out in goosebumps while reading. This book reminded me of ACOTAR, in the Tamlin vs. Rhysand with Feyre sense (with Tamlin being Gaelin, Rhysand being Erendrial, and Feyre being Genevieve), but much much darker. Darker than Under the Mountain. I believe this story is BETTER. I think Jessica said this is one of five for the series and I am SO VERY EXCITED for the remainder.
This is a dark fantasy horror. Please check your trigger warnings. Notable tropes/TW/CW include: kidnapping, slavery, noncon (not with any main male characters), blood & gore, discrimination.
Genevieve is a headstrong, street smart, orphaned half-elf who offers herself to the light elves (known as Light Alfar) when her best friend and fellow orphan is taken by the Dark Alfar. Upon arriving in the kingdom she must hide her heritage because all halfbreed children are disposed of at birth to keep the bloodlines pure. She is chosen by the future king, Gaelin (who gives off some Tamlin-esque vibes), to be his concubine. Gen quickly realizes that it will be near impossible to escape and make her way to the dark court. While Gen attempts to protect her heart from increasing feelings toward her captor she becomes caught up in the drama of court intrigue, danger from increasing attacks by dark creatures and the arrival of the dark Alfar Emissary, Erendrial. Erendrial is dark and brutal and everything Gen should run from, but she feels a connection to him she can’t explain. Will Gen remain where she feels relative safety with her light court captor/lover or will she be tempted by the lure of the dark court and the chance she may be able to rescue her friend? You will have to read to find out!!!
I loved this book! I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish reading and immediately wanted more. Genevieve is a strong FMC who knows how to survive. Gaelin, despite taking Gen to be his mistress, is a surprisingly gentle and caring MMC, until he isn’t. The addition of Erendrial muddies the waters with his dangerous sex appeal and link to Lily. You are sucked into the world building, slow burn enemies to lovers, spicy (but not overly spicy) scenes, banter, unexpected friendships, found family, magical creatures, delicious villains, epic quests and hidden identities. There is so much to love about this book and I am impatiently waiting to continue the series. This will definitely be on my re-read shelf. #romantasy #highfantasy #enemiestolovers #foundfamily #elves #faeries #magic #villainsdoitbetter #awakeningthedarkthrone #jessicasnndisciacca
This is one that I read in one sitting, stayed up until 3 am because I'm not a quitter. The first thing I did after I finished was look to see when the next one comes out because I was not ready to be done yet. I then got all up in my feelings because I couldn't find any information on the next book. So, umm, Jessica. If you need a Beta reader or something let me know LOL 😅 There isn't a cliffhanger or anything, I just really loved this book. There is some spice, but nothing super explicit. Please check the triggers before jumping in. I loved our FMC and immediately started shipping her with the morally gray male. That could just be because of who I am as a person, but I never felt more than ambivalent towards the MMC. But this ending had a twist I didn't fully see coming, and I am here for it.
❤️ Tropes ❤️ 💋 forbidden love 💋 BA FMC 💋 arranged to something more 💋 found family
Gen is half fae, and has to hide certain aspects because she isn't supposed to exist. Half fae are supposed to be killed immediately upon discovery. The humans in her village tend to turn a blind eye out of respect for her mother. But since her mother died, she lives in the basement of a church with other orphans making up her found family. But one of them is taken by the Dark Fae. She can't let her go to die, so she offers her services to the light fae that come through to get across the border. But if they find out she is half fae, she won't live long enough to find her sister.
I have been sitting here for the past day trying to form words for how much I loved this book.
I happened to stumble upon it in a local bookstore and I’m so glad that I did. ‘Awakening the Dark Throne’ is undoubtedly going to be in my top 5 reads of the year. This book has it all from a descriptive world you transport to, a FMC who is strong, witty, intelligent and loyal to those she loves despite the trauma she goes through. It has a best friend who brings all the banter we need, a MMC who is easy to love and even a morally grey bad guy who we want to hate, but like do we really??
Genevieve, our FMC, is hands down, one of my favorite characters ever written. I instantly loved her devotion to her found family. The pain and struggles she goes through ripped my heart to shreds, but somehow, she grew even stronger from it all.
And don’t get me started on Erendrial. I know we’re not entirely supposed to like him, BUT I love him. What can I say, I’m always going to love the questionable bad guy.
I am in awe of the way Jessica sprinkles in Norse mythology which I don’t see often in romantasy. The magic system is intriguing and while not entirely unique, still makes me totally captivated. ‘Awakening the Dark Throne’ truly has everything you could want in a fantasy romance. I am *not so* patiently awaiting book 2!
Are you looking for your next fantasy read? Add Awakening the Dark Throne to your list!
I was hyped to be invited to the preview team and now I’m counting down the seconds until book two! Awakening the Dark Throne is a fast paced, intriguing fantasy. Right in the sweet spot of being just reminiscent enough of my favorite fantasy books to keep me hooked without being exactly like other books or feeling over played. I would have like to I learn a little more about the characters in book one but I’m so excited to keep finding out more. When I got to the end of the book I immediately starting searching for the second book only to remember this is JUST COMING OUT! ~Genevieve is a strong willed ride or die. If she does nothing else she’s gonna stand up for her friends and people she sees in need. She is the clever, fierce, protective older sister we all want, going off on a mission just to save her little sister while trying not to expose her position or her biggest secret. ~Levos is the comedic relief, lovable friend we all need (I’m getting Theo vibes for all my dramione girlies) AND LETS NOT FORGET LADIES AND GENTLEMEN ~ERENDRIAL! He’s mysterious, He’s protective, he’s cunning, His chuckle?! He oozes swag. I need more Eren like yesterday. I am eagerly awaiting book two to get back in to Sweet Genevieve’s story and find out just what is in store for her!
2024: As part of Disciacca's Street Team, I have been given early access to this book prior to publishing. All thoughts are mine, and I have not been coerced in any way. This is my honest review.
I freaking adored this book. I found it such a quick and easy read. I haven't had vibes like this for a story since reading ACOTAR for the first time.
Disciacca has done a great job in balancing world building and storyline. The elements to the story were all well laid out with room to further explore if needed, but can be left as is if necessary.
Gen's character progression was hands down, some of the best writing I've seen. At first, it was so subtle and then only became more pronounced as her experiences impacted the choices she was making. By the end, it was very easy to feel the dark fantasy theme coming through, and by that time, I was well and truly hooked.
I hold so much hope for this series since there is soooooo much storyline to explore. I am on board for wherever that ride takes me.
The story had me captivated van the start. We start in the human world following fmc Gen. I immediately liked her and the love only grew during the story. Not long after we follow her into the world of the Alfar. A unique world where Gen is trying to make the best of what they offer her. The characters are intriguing and the plot is exiting. Relationships feel adult and I liked how respectful they communicated.
If you like a darker version of ACOTAR this could be for you. I wouldn’t be suprised if some is influenced by it, but it’s still a very unique story on its own.
I definitely look forward to see whats going to happen to Gen in the next part.
This is definitely my best read of 2024 so far! 💫 This book is soooo good, I was so invested and I didn't want to put it down! The story is fast paced and filled with magical creatures, romance, action, and heart wrenching parts.
The writing, the worldbuilding, everything was perfect. I really loved Gen. She is such a clever, kind and badass character and it broke my heart to read everything she had to go through. I even shed a few tears during my reading. It had been a while since I became this attached to a MC and there was also many more well developped and interesting characters! Even the more sensitive parts of the book were well written and we could truly feel immerse in her universe.
There is so much I loved about this book and absolutly can't wait to read the next one ! 💙
I had the wonderful opportunity to read this book before release date and wow am I glad I did! I finished it in one day because I could not put it down and needed to know what was going to happen next after every chapter.
Jessica did an amazing job at making a fantasy world with humans, light and dark alfar (elves as humans called them) and monsters all attempting to live in the same world. Her writing held me captive the whole time. The book follows Gen, the FMC who turns her life upside down to save her sister from dangers across the Alfar border.
This book had adventure, heartbreak, and plot twists, everything you are looking for in a fantasy book! I sure hope there is going to be a second book in the series because I need more!
Oh my god!! I loved this book so much! Our FMC goes through the war & still manages to be a bad chick!!🔥
This was probably the first fantasy book where I understood the world building.. it was easy guided & made this more enjoyable for me reading. I was hooked. The last 30% of the book was INSANE. So much happened & so much tension was building!!
TROPES ❤️🖤Dark Fantasy Romance ❤️🖤Enemies to lovers ❤️🖤Magic & creatures & monsters ❤️🖤SPICE ❤️🖤Dragons ❤️🖤Lies & betrayal & twists
I highly recommend you go pick this book up ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
TW, it has dark elements but they aren’t descriptive. But still, definitely not a book for everyone.
I liked how I couldn’t fully guess where the story was going. To a degree you know different characters or plot points will come back later and be important but I had no clue how and wasn’t able to foresee how everything would unfold.
Awakening the Dark Throne is everything fantasy is supposed to have. As a lover of fantasy, the mystical realm and power play is all that I would want. As I read Genevieve’s fight to regain her sister… it was the plight of many fantasy novels that I have read.
Jessica as done a great job of making a great book.
