Cupcake Diaries #22

Mia's Recipe for Disaster

Rate this book
Mia is excited to enter a Design-a-Dress contest, but she’s pressed for time. And when she tries to finish working on her dress during a Halloween cupcake party, it’s a recipe for disaster!

When Mia reads about a Design-a-Dress contest in a magazine for “budding designers ages 12–16” she is excited. But she doesn’t realize how much work designing—and sewing—a dress truly is until she starts on her contest entry. While Mia stresses out about all the work she has to do, she and Katie have an argument about, of all things, fashion preferences! Katie offers suggestions that don’t really go with the outfit Mia has in mind. And when Mia makes (what she thinks) is an offhand joke about Katie’s fashion sense, it turns into a full-blown argument.

As Mia tries to finish working on her dress during a kids’ Halloween cupcake party, she realizes that kids plus cupcakes plus silk dresses plus frosting equals a recipe for disaster!

Coco Simon always dreamed of opening a cupcake bakery, but she’s afraid she would eat all the profits. When she’s not daydreaming about cupcakes, Coco edits children’s books and has written close to 100 books for children, tweens, and young adults, which is a lot less than the number of cupcakes she’s eaten. Cupcake Diaries is the first time Coco has mixed her love of cupcakes with writing.

Ok a started this series like 3 years ago and I just have kept reading it but I think I can say now that I am done with this book I think I am done with the series.

The plot was fine but I feel like Mia made a huge deal out of something small and she was really dramatic.

I would recommend this book for 9-11 yr olds.

I loved this book! Mia wants to enter a design-a-dress contest but will it be too much with already being in the Cupcake Club and Halloween coming up? Mia starts designing the dress and gets into an argument with her BFF Katie. Mia makes a joke about her fashion sense and asks Alexis and Emma if they want to model Mia's dress. Katie takes it personally and thinks Mia thinks that Katie is not pretty enough to model her dress. Katie ignores her for days, meanwhile her crush Chris wants to ask her something but Mia says she's busy which prevents her from going to the dance with him. Katie and Mia make up and it was all a misunderstanding. Chris thought Mia blew her off according to Emma's brother Matt so she has to mend things with him at the dance. Though Mia finished the dress and Emma said she would model it she forget to make a Halloween costume for the dance! She ends up going as a clown and sees that Chris goes to the dance with a girl in her class named Talia. Chris and Mia are still friends but she is a little bummed that she didn't go to the dance with him. At least Katie got to go with George and Alexis went with Matt. I recommend this book for ages 7+. I probably won't reread this book because I have so many books on my TBR pile.

“‘Do you think we’ll always be together, all of us?’
‘I don’t know,’ I answered honestly. ‘I hope so.’
‘I hope so, too.’”

I thought I read this last year when I was going through all the Cupcake Diaries books, but I found out I’d accidentally marked it as read, getting mixed up with a different Mia book. I only found this out because I lost all my Goodreads data and was working on reading stuff, so now I found out I didn't even meet my 2023 challenge because I didn’t read this last year.

Mia becomes very consumed in working on her dress for a design contest. There is trouble communicating with a boy, fighting with Katie, and juggling all of her responsibilities.

I liked the book especially Mia’s sewing and fashion moments. Like how it included the fight between Mia and Katie because it completely normal to have two different people have a disagreement. And how Chris moves on because not everyone’s first crush work out.
