I thought this was better than the first book in the series. The plot is a little more coherent and I appreciated the emphasis of responsibility, making amends for wrongdoing and respecting the hard work and personal belongings of others. Cute baby dragon, too ;-)

This is a great early chapter book with dragons, giants and a look into castle life. I liked that there was a lesson on character building for kids. The prince and his friend learn about responsibility, hard work and making wrongs right. The pencil illustrations are really well done and definitely add to the enjoyment of the story! I also appreciate that this can be read as a standalone and doesn’t need to be read in order with the rest of the series.

For this one, I deeply appreciated the lesson the prince and his friend had to learn about hard work and taking responsibility for your actions. The author does a good job of getting that point across to young readers.

I enjoyed this book because I liked the part when Ruskin learned how to control his fire. I did not like the part when Ruskin burned all the ice for the cook.

A copy of Adventures in Flatfrost was provided by the illustrator in exchange for an honest review.

Books #4 and #5 in The Kingdom of Wrenly series! In The Witch's Curse, Lucas and Clara take on a powerful sorcerer who has cursed the kingdom with eternal rain. But is the person whom Lucas suspects really responsible? I know I say this every time, but this was probably my favorite. It seems like the series just keeps getting better and better (and this totally has nothing to do with the fact that there's an actual hedgehog in The Witch's Curse, if you look closely). We don't explore as much of Wrenly as in past books, but we get to meet a new and very interesting character: the witch in question. Loved her so much!!

In Adventures in Flatfrost, Lucas and Ruskin his dragon have to learn a hard lesson in appreciating hard work, when Ruskin melts all of the ice in the palace kitchens. As punishment, Lucas and Ruskin are sent to help the Flatfrost giants harvest more ice, and if Ruskin doesn't show better training after that, he'll be sent away. I really enjoyed seeing the world of the giants, but I have to admit that this might be my least favorite. That isn't to say I didn't like it! Because I totally and absolutely did; it's just in comparison to the others, this is my least favorite. The other books have always taught little life lessons, but have mostly just been fun. The life lesson in Adventures in Flatfrost was a little more obvious and heavy-handed than in past books. Not to the point to where it felt preachy, but it got a little close.

Still, it offered a lot of fun adventure, we got to see more of the land of Wrenly and its neighbors, and that's always awesome. These two new installments in probably my favorite beginning reader series will not disappoint.

My Review: This might be the best book of the series! I love how there are so many lessons worked into the story, in this one in particular, from being responsible and respecting other's belongings and work. Even with those lessons, that young readers have probably already heard from their parents, it is still a fun adventure for Lucas, Clara and Ruskin. The illustrations in this one were also great, I loved the way the giants and mountains were depicted.

Read aloud to Gwen and Alec. This wasn’t my favorite in the series, but it was fun to get to see a new part of the kingdom. I liked that the kids were finally told they were spoiled brats 😆 that is still probably my biggest beef with these books, but the fantasy elements are fun.

In this charming story for children, a loving boy and his best friend and their destructive and arson-loving, fire-breathing dragon Ruskin terrorize a larder and a distressed cook. As punishment, King Caleb and Queen Tasha (Prince Lucas's parents) and Anna (Clara's mother) decide to send the kids off to a set of imposing giants and their sharp weapons to carve out ice blocks and, after a sledding trip (in which the children deal with the traumatic stress of "will I get crushed by this giants foot?"), they are forced into child labor despite the fact that by most country's laws, they aren't even old enough to work yet. Lucas's arson-loving, destructive fire-breathing dragon is subjected to trickery and bribery, in that he must basically display circus-like ability in order to eat some fish.
Actually, no. I'm dramatizing it, lol. 3 stars.

This series is really great for children that are just starting chapter books! I started them last summer with the boys that I nanny and they both loved them (ages 7 & 4 ~ now 8 & 5). Before finding this series, the then 7 year old absolutely hated reading! But when we found this series for summer reading last year, he took off and has loved reading ever since! Now he’s read the entire series and the first 4 Harry Potter books!
I started reading them aloud to the 5 year old last summer and continued into this summer and he adores them!

Abbie: It was funny because the giants were WAY bigger. Lucas and Clara had to climb up tall ladders to get to the furniture when they were with the giants.

James liked how the dragon melted some ice in the basement of the castle and Lucas and Clara had to go to Flatfrost and apologize to the giants because the giants gave all the ice and it was hard work so they had to go over there and help them. I liked how the giants helped train the dragon.

I love reading this series aloud with my 4.5 year old son! The series set up and format is so fun and the illustrations are beautiful! I liked how in this book the young prince has to face up to some consequences when he makes some careless decisions that hurt other people. We got to see a different part of the kingdom that we haven't read about yet.

This book was just okay. The worst one in the series so far. I was a little disappointed since I loved the first 4 so much. I'm hoping 6, 7 and 8 are better because that's what I have on hand to read now.

Hope you all have fun with this series. I recommend it to your kids. They'll surely enjoy them.

Another serviceable adventure in the Kingdom of Wrenly completed. My youngest loved the first four so much we got the second four for Christmas. As I have said before, these books are far from my favorite (FAR) but they are fine and my kids are really enjoying them, so I'll continue dealing.

This adventure dealt with Lucas and Clara needing to face consequences for playing hide and seek with the dragon Ruskin in the larder and melting all the ice. They have to go up and help the giants who gather ice for Wrenly. They end up learning some lessons about hard work, friendship, and actually training Ruskin. For me this series has a pretty low bar, so this exceeded my expectations. Also it is always fun to read books that you get on Christmas, ON CHRISTMAS!

A lull in an otherwise great series. This book sort of reveals just how privileged the main character is and "remedies" this by sending him to "work hard" with some giants. Unfortunately, it is mostly a vacation for him.

I wish I could Give it a 10 because it’s one of my five top favorite because they Ruskin have to be trained and it’s hard for Dragons to be trained and I think it was fun to read!
