This book serves as an essential primer for anyone looking to understand the foundational principles and intricate workings of the United States Constitution.
The book meticulously breaks down the Constitution, starting from the Preamble and moving through each Article and Amendment. The authors also delve into significant Supreme Court cases and their impact on constitutional interpretation.

US Constitution 101 is a must-read for anyone looking to gain a comprehensive understanding of the United States Constitution. Whether you’re a student, a history enthusiast, or simply a curious reader, this book provides valuable insights into the document that has shaped American democracy for over two centuries.
This is an easily accessible high-school level introduction to the US Constitution. It steps through all major components of the constitution and provides simple explanatory text. It does not contain a copy of the constitution, which would have been helpful. The author does a mediocre job of covering the history of the development of the constitution’s parts, providing a very short and vaguely historically correct summations of what occurred to arrive at the current text without providing the needed context. Students of history will find this irritating. Some constitutional arguments that have been made that bear substantive legal questions are glossed over.
If you did not take high school government or forgot what you were supposed to learn, this book is a good refresher. If you are looking for a detailed analysis of the US Constitution and want to understand the arguments being made today, (for example, details on presidential power), you will need to look elsewhere, such as “The Heritage Guide to the Constitution,” 3rd Edition.
Such an important book, especially now! If you're tired of the talking heads, the social media keyboard warriors, that crazy uncle you try to avoid talking with at family gatherings; than read this book! Richey has provided us with an easily followable and understandable guide to the Constitution. Devoid of personal politics and opinions, it's written in a manner that will engage your curiosity and make you think. And he backs it up with court cases relevant to the document. Everyone should shut off the tv, the podcasters, and the loud opinionated people and read this. I dare say that you will come away much smarter, and be able to separate the facts from all the noise out there currently. And, if you so wish, you can shut down those folks with the clear truth of the document! This is a book that I received from NetGalley in return for a honest review. I will be coming back to this one repeatedly anytime I need some clarity.
Concise, clear and to the point, yet nicely peppered with historical context and a brief selection of highly relevant and interesting Supreme Court cases to enrich the learning experience. Very easy to digest. Fair and balanced with very little bias evident (which is highly appreciated but unfortunately too rare these days).
Love the book, its design and readability. Highly recommended.
Minor quips: Starting with the Bill of Rights rather than the basic structure of the federal government, and the absence of a full unedited version of the Constitution as a handy reference.
My hope for this book was that it would give life to the constitution. It was a textbook just like the title of 101 implies. That is ok. I have read many. I was hoping this was more in the vein of what the constitution means to me. That was my misinterpretation and not the authors. Very knowledgeable on the subject matter. Well broken down subject matter with concise history.
Great book to help you learn about how the constitution was created and the reason why things were added/updated. Very informative, but not overwhelming.
