Kate O'Hearn was born in Toronto Canada, but raised in the heart of New York City and has lived in many places throughout her life. These days, she calls the south coast of England home. She has 3 brothers, no sisters and is passionate about animals and their causes and has many animal friends. (Pets)
Over the course of her life she has had several careers before finding her real love, writing children's books. Being the only girl in family of boys, she grew up a true tom-boy and always loved books with high adventure. But one of the problems she discovered was a lack of female leads in these adventure books.
When she started to write, Kate decided to address this imbalance and now writes high fantasy adventures with strong, compassionate and adventure loving girl heroes. There are plenty of boys in the story to keep it interesting and challenging, but she believes that a girl hero can be as brave, strong and adventurous as a boy.
First half... WHAT. THE. I hate JP for making me read this book... Just saying cause he knows that I'll end up crying because of this book. >:( Isn't he so mean?
First off, Emily finally discovered what she really is. I always put spoiler in a tag late. :-/ Anyway, knowing what she is, doesn't mean that one should go ballistic or anything and be sorry for yourself you're not like your friends. Just accept the truth and live on. :/
Second, when that problem arises, I was so devastated... Just like I said I hated JP for making me read this book. :( I cried because of Jupiter and all of the Olympians. I even want to hate the author for doing this to me, us readers. :( And Pegasus! OMG. Pegasus, sweet stallion, Pegasus. :( Ah, this is really a hard one when you became attach to the characters.
Third, CRU is so freakin' annoying and repetitive that I just want this book to end when they showed up again. I was like "Why is it so long?! End it now please!" Why oh why did they have to be in here? >:( I seriously debated with myself if I should finish this book because of the damned CRU.
Fourth, EMILY IS SO FREAKIN' ANNOYING THE HECK OUT OF ME. I know that she got those problems and worry and all that crap but please! You do not have the right to become an arrogant girl or whatever just because you feel pressured and hopeless. Gah! It was so annoying reading Emily go insane and supernova.
That scene with Stella? When they first saw each other? I wanted to smack Emily down for being such a bitch. She could ask nicely! I know there's a lot of stake, but girl! Where're your manners! Your daddy taught you better than that. ARGH! Stupid little insolent girl! >:( BUT as much as Emily being infuriating, she's also loyal to the core. That's a good thing with her.
I love Young Jupe! :) He makes me blush too. LOL. :P And finally! I am done and yes, it did have it's happy ending! Hurray! I don't know if I love it, cause there's the annoying part. But I liked it enough. ;) And I like Agent B now.
Before reading I recommend that you have read the previous books in the Pegasus series to avoid spoilers. In this book Pegasus and Emily find themselves facing another danger - the Olympians are dying. It's only a matter of time before it kills all of them so they must act fast before it's too late. Overall, the plot was okay but it lacked the original spark that the previous books held in the series. The entire book itself seemed rushed and put together hastily rather than taking their time with it and making it suspenseful and exciting as the others. Also, just the plot in general seemed fake where the previous ones followed real Greek myths. That made it even less interesting because it didn't quite tie in to Greek mythology for I liked to relate both the book in the myth to each other and see how creatively Kate O'Hearn tied it in. Another dislike was just how overall rushed the book was. There was one scene in general (slight spoiler alert) where it just completely jumped off where they could've had a great semi-plot. But instead it went more like: "It's time to start training!" and then the next paragraph opens 100 days later after training. I feel like they could have done a lot more with that scene to add depth and conflicts to characters rather than just skipping through it all and summarizing that they endured it in a brief paragraph. This kind of thing happened a few times throughout the book and made it less enjoyable because it left gaps in the book, making the overall flow of the plot detached. Also, the writing of the book was detached as well and some paragraphs did not logically piece together. Some parts were completely irrelevant and others did not explain the whole length. Most of the dialogue techniques in the book were very bland and repetitive, not giving out much emotion. One thing that bothered me the most was how overpowered they made Emily's character to be. I understand that as the main character they have some advantages and all but she is basically a Mary Sue character which is really boring to read. My favorite book of the series was the first book, mainly because she was easy to relate to and had a down to earth character. In the first book you could feel her conflict and struggle and it would really touch you but then in this book all of it was out of this earth and made you feel no sympathy. I mean she went from a ordinary girl from New York to this overpowered Greek character who can fly, levitate, control fire and do all of these unrealistic things that the real character is lost in itself and becomes uninteresting because no one could relate to this person anymore. It bothered me so much any time she used her powers because here she was, alongside a normal person (handicapped actually) and Joel (a human with a prosthetic arm) and they are trying their hardest and fighting with all their might with actual relational struggle and Emily gets to kill monsters with the first blow. Honestly I'm kind of wishing that they shifted the point of view away from Emily entirely. I Rather read a book from Joel's point of view with a less interesting plot because you could actually feel his grit and conflicts rather than Emily's perfect powers. Overall, this book was rushed and poorly written with little character development. I think that Kate O'Hearn should have put more time into elaboration to understand the character more and tap in to her perspective so it would be more down-to-earth and you could actually relate to Emily. Also put more time in drawing out certain parts that were just dropped instead of being bothered with to feel like you are on the whole journey, not just unconnected fragments that don't tie together. Honestly, the only reason I read the entire book without abandoning it was because I wanted to know what happened to the characters - not Emily - but rather Pegasus, Paelen, and Joel. Because they are characters that you can understand and feel - even Paelen who is a Olympian - and have actual character depth that moves you. I know a lot of people enjoyed this book but it is my opinion and I must say I had much higher hopes for this book. I think that Kate O'Hearn should have just ended the series at three books instead of trying to make a fourth one - or at least took her time - hastily just for viewers pleasure.
5 stars I really loved this one. It was better than the rest of the books in the series. I think maybe it was because of the writing. I feel like this book did not drag on and on so much like the others ones in the series. I think that it I'd all wrapping up and getting to the end. There was also more excitement and it is getting more interesting. I think the first three books was more a less introducing everything and the characters. I think this more exciting and I hope the next book will be similar to this book.
Emily and Pegasus have returned in an mind-blowing tale that will capture your attention and steal your heart.
When an ancient world is rediscovered by the Olympians, everything they thought they knew about the Flame suddenly changes and Emily unearths a part of herself that she never imagined existed. While she is terrified of losing herself, an unknown weapon attacks Olympus and starts to subject her friends to a slow and agonising death. In a moment of realisation, Emily knows what to do - but time is running out, and her plan is absurd and downright dangerous. A single mistake could have lethal consequences, not only for Pegasus but for existence as she knows it.
Pegasus and the Origins of Olympus is a magical story, definitely the best in the series so far. From page one I was glued to it and couldn't take my fingers off unless it was to turn the page. The characters are memorable, especially Pegasus and Paelen and the younger Olympians that appear in the Origins of Olympus, but at the same time they could appear more 3D - I'd like to get to know them better in the next books, particularly Jupiter and the other Olympians as this story was largely enlightening on their lives. The bigger problem that occurs throughout the series is the writing style and pacing. While the Pegasus books are enjoyable and easy enough to read, these two factors can appear somewhat clumsy and, to put it vaguely, have room for improvement. However, all in all, a brilliant book and series. They're imaginative and gripping and I think Pegasus well deserves his fame.
It was a good idea to bring Emily to the past to destroy the weapon that is killing the Olympians and fight the Titan war.The idea of bring a mortal was good too. I thought that it was sad to make Emily's friends forget their memory. If there is an other book from the Pegasus series I will gladly read it.
This book was definitely not my favorite in the series, but it was still good. It had a great plot and good climax, but I find it had the same problem as the first book where it was solved a little too easily. Still a great book, though. And I am excited to read the next book in the series.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Roman Mythology, especially ages 10-16.
I loved it so much! There were a few parts were I wanted to fling the darn thing across the room , but most of the time I was smiling or laughing my head off! I really felt like I was in the book!
Honestly, the best way to describe this book is a heart-wrenching story followed by a fix-it fanfic except it’s all canon. Where are the repercussions? I mean Emily makes some very questionable decisions, but never really sees the consequences of her own actions. It’s made her arrogant and entitled and I’m so over it.
Kate has made Emily so overpowered that the series has become the Emily-Single-Handedly-Saves-The-Day...... Again show. Literally nothing really challenges her and if something doesn’t go her way she throws a fit and everything works out anyway. It’s.... grating. At the beginning she was such a fantastic heroine — dynamic, compelling, and so good-hearted — but now she’s lost those good, important aspects of herself. Her character has regressed and it’s disappointing to get this far into a series and have the MC become one of my least favorites.
With all of Emily’s power it’s hard to relate to her. She is basically the most powerful being in the universe and how are ordinary girls supposed to relate to that when Emily has lost much of what made her seem so very human. The storyline seems to focus more on Emily’s powers than the actual problems the characters face. In fact, the other characters seem to only exist in the story to hold Emily on a pedestal. They lack the depth that would have made this series amazing.
And on a similar note, the recurring villains in the form of CRU agents is redundant, boring, and past the point of aggravating. How many more times is Emily going to face them when at this point they’re basically flies for her to swat? Not to mention the fact that pretty much every agent she comes into contact with just magically changes sides. It’s...... not believable. These agents have devoted their lives to a secret, international agency and I seriously doubt a short time with arrogant little girl would cause them to defect. Flying horses and olympians, sure they’re made up, but we know enough about human nature to know this most likely wouldn’t happen. I mean, a lot about the CRU bothers me, but Kate should have at least been able to make the agents believable.
While this book was an improvement on the last one, what’s with all the sci-fi? I came here for fantasy awesomeness and while I’m not exactly against the sci-fi vibes it also isn’t really what I wanted from this series. I still plan on finishing it, but I spend a majority of each book asking myself “wtaf” because all the books are just....... chaos.
This was an amazing continuation of the series and im excited to read more but I dont want the series to end! I recommend this series to people interested in mythology.
I really like it so far. It's a good series, even though I had trouble with the fact it was Roman gods at first. But I started reading it, and I love it now. I can hardly put the book down and I'm constantly trying to figure out what will happen next. (Sorry Ayla. I see now that's why we lost the shoe competition during STEAM. In my defense, the canteen idea totally should've won.) I love the series.
It irks me to not rate this five stars, but I found myself kinda a little confused at times. Asides from some minor criticism though, this book was still fun and action packed!
Mostly though, what are the Xan? I don’t get it. This book series was supposed to be based on Roman mythology, and yet we are suddenly shoved into these random alien species and stuff. Emily is revealed to be Xan, even more powerful than the Olympians, and I was so lost.
Asides from this though, there’s this massive weapon that is aging the Olympians and Emily uses her powers to go back in time and stop it. Or else the Olympians will all die and never come back.
If we compare this series to PJO, the Roman gods here are really weak. They can still be killed if their powers don’t work, and they aren’t truly immortal compared to the Greek gods from Percy Jackson’s world. Still, a part of me is actually impressed by the book.
The world building is actually interesting. There are multiple worlds alongside Olympus, and that also includes the planet of the Xan. I am interested in knowing more about the magic system and everything. I just wish Emily’s powers were more consistent. She can suddenly do all these things and it’s not really explained how.
But asides from this, this book was still exciting. It doesn’t have the emotional or fast paced vibe that the other books had going on, but this series is still fun!
Pegasus The origins of Olympus Emily is overjoyed when pegasus and alexis come back from what emily thought was death, which really turned out to be a distant planet. She had sent them there on accident, thinking they were gone forever. Emily has a strange connection to the people living on that distant planet, she is one with the exan people. The olympians visit this planet and find jupiter and other great mythic gods, sick back at olympus, the only way to save them is to go back in time. How will they do it? Can they?
There are two characters in this book that can be so alike and yet so different. Paelen and Emily. Palen is confident and often aggressive, while Emily is less confident and is afraid of hurting people. Palen is not and emotional guy, he sticks to himself, while emily shares her emotions and shows affection more openly. But they are both passionate about each other, and they both sacrifice and work for protecting olympus.
I liked the intensity of the story, it got you going. You learned something new at every bend, along with another rising question. It made you emotional and you felt the same emotions as the characters. There was a time when I wanted to beg paelen not to do something or go into the story and help the people recover from injuries. This book will make you smile, it will make you cry, but most of all it will help you light your fire within.
I'm (pleasantly) surprised this series is still staying so strong even at 4 books, it started great but I wouldn't of expected it to maintain that level at this length, so applause for that. I was totally cool with the way the plot was heading until the time travel part, it seemed quite interesting. Time travel in fiction tends to irk me out, and this was no exception but it did work out well, it still maintained a bit of irkiness, but it was ok. Is it just me or did Paelen liking Emily seem a bit off I still cannot picture Brue at all. Its also weird for me to think of the Titanomachy in Roman terms not Greek, but that's just me in general with all the books.
Is this the last book or not? Because the ending didn't have the usual ending of a series feel to it, but it also didn't leave loose ends and the series could well end here. I kind of hope it's not because I really have enjoyed these books and would like them to continue. I preferred the older style covers that I read the last 3 books with, this new format looks a bit too Percy Jackson-ish. But I suppose its fine and makes the series look uniform, the cover illustrations do look nicer when less zoomed and cropped though.
Pegasus and the Origins of Olympus is a good book. It is about a girl, Emily, who discovers she is the flame of Olympus and saved it from destruction. She goes then to live at Olympus with her beloved Pegasus and Zeus and the other Olympians. Never had Olympians ever grown old or gotten sick, so no one knows what to do when the Olympians fall ill, one after another. Emily starts to worry about what will happen and what caused it. When Pegasus starts to show that he has caught the illness, Emily will not sit aside. Emily and her friend Joel go on many adventures and even travel in time to find out how to save the Olympians. They can only hope they won't be too late. Kate O'Hearn's book is a book that I would recommend to 5th or 6th graders. I learned about some myths and different creatures like the titans and Olympians and the other mythical beings in the stories. Pegasus is a very great book for all to read.
It was an incredible book, a huge leap from what happened in the first three books and that surprised me. I was expecting something of a typical story where it was decent but predictable. However, the story line was pretty epic when they traveled back through time and go to Greece and it was emotional when so many of Emily's friends died. For me its standard has improved and reminded me of Percy Jackson which is a good thing because risks were taken. The only thing I wish could have been different was that Joel would admit that he loves Emily when they were back in their own time like he did in the past and it would have been great to read a scene about Emily visiting Agent B in London. Otherwise, it was a phenomenon of adventure, realization and emotion.

This is my first review, and I'm gonna make it relatively short. I liked the plot. I really did. But the quality of the writing was absolutely appalling. Pacing problems. Annoying. Senseless naming. Very fucking annoying
By far the worst, was the plain out mistakes. Emily was rising from a pit. Then she just says "Come on Mike!" And the dog is magically by her side in the next room. Don't bother with this book.
Really loved this book as I've said in a past review I love books on mythology and I love this authors book on roman mythology. its great how there's the Greek and titan links in there and there is the titan which are also great:)
I thought this was so fun to read! At the end a little sad with Joel and Emily situation, other than that it was amazing! I want to know if there will be another!
this book has pages 418. When I started this book and I couldn't put it down. It so good to read. There are tons of main characters. They go on mission to save people and the world.
