Are you ready to head back to Scotland for another exciting Roxbury Heirs story? I was! This has been one of my highly anticipated reads of the year and it was AMAZING!!! I was hooked! And was trying to read it during all of my spare time! It was so hard to not ignore life responsibilities and pick it up so I could read it all and figure everything out! So make sure you have plenty of reading time when you go to pick this one up! You're going to want to read it straight through and not be like me in having to pause and wait (not so patiently) to pick it back up again! Just sayin'!
This is the second book in the Roxbury Heirs series but you can read it as a standalone if you want. Although the main characters from the first book make several appearances, which I loved! The author does a good job at giving enough info so you know about the characters but you don't know everything or what happened in their book. But I'll definitely encourage to read it because it was fantastic!
I loved everything about horses in this book! From riding to caring for them to training them to racing them! I LOVE horses! I don't have any but sure wish I did! I loved Lady Sophie's love and admiration and care for the horses. So if you're a horse fanatic or just enjoy them, you'll have fun with that aspect of this book!
Zander and Lady Sophie together will have your heart racing as well. Their ups and downs and the struggles and the suspense. But especially the sweet love story throughout. And Zander...oh my heart, I just love him! He's the best! His love for Sophie will have your heart melting.
Not a dull moment at all between the characters, the mystery and suspense, the horse racing, the family (I love this family), the friends, the other race (not horse racing), the jewelry (melt my heart again!) and sooo much more! Get ready to fall in love with Scotland and horses!
And that ending! *I'm a melted puddle over here!*
Content: Clean. There is suspense and intrigue throughout the book and some moments of peril. Some bullets and danger but nothing overly graphic. No language and only some sweet kisses, nothing further.

Scotland, horse racing, suspense, and romance. The gang is all here :)
But seriously, this book is a total 10! It really has everything I'm looking for and then some. The storyline is well paced and the set-up was superb. I loved guessing early on who was behind the scheming and doping. The author does a great job at keeping you guessing!
Zander was such a great romantic hero! He has to be the advisor that crushes Sophie's stud farm dreams and does everything he can to still help her. Sophie is a head of her times and isn't afraid to do whatever it takes to make her dreams come true. Her horses are her life and I loved seeing that commitment to them jump right off of the pages.
Zander and Sophie are a dream team and their romance is oh, so sweet!
The mystery and suspense is perfectly intertwined into the storyline and it had me at the edge of my seat! And a book getaway to Scotland is always a good idea :)
If you enjoy mystery/suspense and a swoony romance all tied into one, this would be a great book for you!

This book! You blew this one out of the water! The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, especially watching the “bad guy” become the bad guy! Ooh, that was good!
I loved Sophie’s determination and Zander’s thoughtfulness. For real, Zander is soooo good! Absolutely perfect book hero. Loved him! And I loved how he slowly worked himself into Sophie’s good graces, helping her to see him as the good person he was. Really, the tension and romance was super good!
Learning a little more about stud farms and racing was a fun bonus to this one. And having a book set in Scotland is never a bad thing! You make the setting come alive and I loved it! I also desperately want to go to Scotland now (even more so than usual), so I’ll send my husband your direction when he wants someone to blame for my endless dreaming, thankyouverymuch.
As I said, your suspense was phenomenal in this book! I was on the edge of my seat, wondering how things were going to turn. I thought it was fascinating watching the bad guy actually turn bad. Very clever method! But also made it a little more suspenseful, because we got to know him so well! *chills* It was super good!

We're back in Scotland for another Roxbury Heirs story and I was more than ready! I'd been looking forward to this book for awhile and was not disappointed!! Paige Edwards really knows how to write suspense! I didn't want to put this one down and found myself staying up late turning pages on my Kindle quickly. Horse racing, failing estates, false accusations, multiple bad guys, and romance? Yes, please.
I loved Sophie and Zander! Sophie is a smart, determined woman who genuinely cares for the horses she breeds. She has a gift for getting them to do what she wants them to do, even the ones others find difficult to work with. When Sophie's father shuts down her dream of breeding racehorses she sells some of her heirloom jewelry to pay for their care. Then Zander, the man who killed her dream, offers to become partners with her. Zander has my heart! He's honest, hard-working and the man secretly bought the jewelry Sophie sold to take care of her horses!! To me, that was totally swoon worthy. These two are so good together.
There are so many suspenseful moments in this book. I couldn't figure out who "Red", the main bad guy, was but it was very interesting watching another character make choices that turn him into a bad guy. I truly did not see that character going as far down that path as they did.
This book is the second in a series but can be read as a standalone. Characters from the previous book make an appearance, but the author gives enough information so you won't be lost if you're just getting into the series. I highly recommend reading the first book because it's so good.

All of the stars for this amazing romantic suspense novel! I could not put Sophie’s story down! I loved everything about her right down to her stubbornness. Her love for her animals endeared her to me and I instantly became entranced with her story. I loved Zander and his honesty and thoughtfulness. The side characters were just as wonderful as the main characters and this world that Edwards has built is one I never want to leave. I loved how she incorporated characters from previous books, it was like a reunion!
The suspense was spot on and trying to figure out who was behind the horse doping kept me turning pages as fast as I could read them. Learning more about horse racing along the way was a lot of fun and I need more of this world! Maybe Sharidon can get his own book? Cairstine maybe? Please give me more of this world and these characters that I cannot get enough of! Fans of romantic suspense will want to run and grab a copy of this book!

Masterful suspense
Paige Edwards is an absolute master of suspense and I always find myself waiting impatiently for her next book. This book demonstrates her strength as an author. Sophie, daughter of the Marquess of Roxbury, had one dream to have a successful stud farm and her father had agreed to fund it for five years. Now three years in and before it could turn a profit, her father was being forced to close the operation due to an economic downturn. And poor Zander, a hedge fund manager for the marquess, was the bearer of the bad tidings. Making things worse, he was attracted to Sophie and had been for years and this would not help his suit. In a desperate attempt to save her business, Sophie moves her horses to a neighboring farm owned by Ahern a long-time friend. When one of Sophie’s horses wins a major race and it looks like success is possible drugs are found in the horse’s system leading to the possibility of disqualifying not only the win but Sophie an all her horses from further racing. But what is this new substance, who administered it to the horse, and why is someone now making attempts on her life? This book takes you right across the pond to the world of prestige and horse racing. I was absolutely immersed from page one.

FLAT DECEPTION by @authorpaigeedwards deceived me! I thought it was historical fiction from the cover, but this engaging mystery is entirely contemporary! I should have recognized the stylish Ascot hat. I adored Lady Sophie and Zander Matthews from the start and wanted them to be partners on and off the horse-racing field. But thoroughbred racing horses are worth millions of pounds and someone will do anything to win - even equine doping. Lady Sophie and Zander must discover who is behind it before they lose their reputation, their business, and maybe even their lives. The romance is a delicious addition to the mystery.

I thoroughly enjoyed this captivating page-turner! Author Paige Edwards has done it again, she's woven an excellent romantic suspense story that I could not put down! I was kept guessing until the very end all the while watching a sweet romance unfold despite difficulties and dangers.
Zander Matthews is the sweetest hero, kind, generous, who has worked hard to prove himself. Lady Sophie is a hard working member of the gentry whose passion for horses leads her to establish a breeding stable.

Paige is a really great romantic suspense author. I’ve read all of her books and love them! This newest addition is really good, and has an interesting set of new and old characters.
Zander and Sophie were sweet MCs and I loved their moments together. The tension between them built and built and was so perfect. The fact that Zander fell first and admired Sophie for so long was so sweet.
I’m a huge horse lover so the racing and caretaking was really interesting and informative. This book opened up a whole new world that made me even more interested in a topic I love.
And of course, the suspense was wonderful. There were quite a few parts that surprised me, which I love, because a lot of the time I can figure things out myself. The bad guy was so convincing, and without giving anything away, I loved the moments we had with the “villain.”
I cannot wait for the next Roxbury Heirs book. This was a fun and clean romantic suspense book.

Paige Edwards has done it again! This book absolutely captured me from the first page! I used to love the Black Stallion books as a kid, and this read definitely took me back!

This is the second in the series and it had been a while since I read the first one. I should have gone back and re-read that book before I started this one as the characters carry over. I really liked Sophie and Zander’s characters. The premise of the story about doping within British horse racing was interesting. The fact that Sophie survived some the things that happened to her seemed more than a little far fetched but I just went with it and enjoyed the read.

I really enjoyed the backdrop for this story, set in the countryside of Scotland with horse racing at the forefront, there were plenty of twists and turns to keep me turning pages.Zander & Sophie’s partnership kept the right amount of sparks flying off the pages, a fun read. Pure escape.

I loved the setting of the book. I am unfamiliar with horse racing and all that goes into it so it was fun to learn more about it. I love the fashion and culture surrounding horse racing and it is well represented in this book. Scotland is always a fun setting too. I love Paige’s writing style. She writes thrilling books but with sweet romances. The horse racing related mystery presented was intriguing and I liked seeing characters from previous books. I hate to say this, but this time the FMC Sophie really bothered me. I think that Zander was amazing and gave everything to the relationship and Sophie just took? This is totally a me problem and I think many people would love her! Sophie’s younger sister is a brat but I’m actually excited to get a book from her haha. Fingers crossed!! If you like the authors previous books, you will enjoy this one!

People try to dope their horses before racing. But this injures the animals. Now the British Horse Racing Authorites blood test animals before every race to make sure no one has done it. Before she signs the contract she is going to make him take riding lessons from her. Bc she refuses to have an ignorant partner. Aww their first kiss is so sweet and tender. He kisses her at the horse race under the brim of her fancy hat. “His eyes darkened at her words. “I really hate your hat.” “You told me it was pretty,” she said a wee bit breathlessly, her heart slamming against her ribs. “I’ve changed my mind. It’s in the way.” He touched her chin, his eyes so hot they could melt concrete. He dipped his head under the brim and kissed her again, his lips hungry and less polite.” Holy crap Sophie can hold a GRUDGE. But I like that people call her out on it. And she recognizes it in herself as a weakness and finally seeks understanding and forgiveness. But those grudge filled chapter of Sophie bugged me so bad. Nick and Xander both rowed at university so now they are having a rematch. A one on one rowing competition. And Sophie gave him a “favor” a blue ribbon hehe. And Zander won!! Lots of intense moments…

I didn’t love this book, it had potential but really really dragged. I also think I was supposed to read another book in connection with this one? I felt like I was supposed to already know a lot of the characters but had no clue. The side conversations that didn’t make sense to the main storyline was exhausting and I kept wanting to skim over it. I did in fact skim over the last few chapters. Not even romance kept me entertained enough.

The tension in this book, both suspenseful and romantic is fabulously done. The he falls first chemistry leaves you with the perfect amount of aching.
Paige leads you along a tight rope with just enough bread crumbs to think you’ve almost figured it out, but with enough mystery to keep you turning pages cause you definitely haven’t.
The characters are well rounded and with emotional depth. There are characters you love, characters you hate, and even some you go back and forth on.
I really enjoyed this story from start to finish!

Another fantastic, suspenseful romance in the Roxbury Heirs series! Flat Deception kept me on the edge of my seat as I raced through Lady Sophie Henderson’s story. It’s a fast paced thrill ride centered around the world of British horse racing.
Lady Sophie Henderson has a gift with horses. She convinced her father to invest in her dream of breeding racehorses, but when the estate is saddled with unforeseen repairs he’s forced to cut her funding. While seeking other avenues to support her dream including selling her heirloom jewelry, Sophie relies on an old friend to stable her horses. She receives help from the last man she expected, her father’s handsome financial analyst who inadvertently crushed her dreams.
Zander Matthews has had a crush on Sophie for years. He regrets being involved in cutting Sophie’s funding & offers to become her business partner to keep her horse racing dream alive. The suspense definitely kept me turning the pages. The bad guys are truly terrifying and don’t hesitate to take care of anyone who gets in their way. The thrilling suspense builds and builds to a heart-stopping conclusion with a few twists along the way.
Scotland’s definitely on my bucket list & I love the way the author brings this area of the world to life. It was fun seeing previous characters again & I’m hoping there are more books in store!

Paige has done it again! Her books are such a perfect blend of all the things I love in romantic suspense books and this one was no exception!
Sophie needs to find a way to keep her breeding stable going after her father has to cut funds so when Zander, the man who never called after their last date, offers to step up as her partner, she is desperate enough to accept his help. She needs her horses to continue to race in order to build her stable's reputation in the British racing community.
Zander and Sophie soon discover they both want something more than a partnership, but if they want a successful racing stable and a chance at a future together, they must first untangle all the lies and betrayals as well as survive the enemy lurking in the shadows who will stop at nothing to silence anyone who stands in his way.

I loved the unique storyline and never realized how much I don't know about horse racing in posh British society. It was fascinating and I was so caught up in the plot and the characters and oh my word, let's not forget the suspense! Trying to figure out who was behind it all and getting snippets of the villain's pov as he stalked Sophie seriously kept my heart racing.
Loved all the character growth for Xander and Sophie. They were multi-layered characters and were so relatable. Their romance was adorable with a capital A and everything Xander did for Sophie was seriously so swoony.
Paige is such a gifted storyteller and though all her books end in a satisfying conclusion and a happily ever after, I am always left with excitement to pick up the next book in the series. They are all such a perfect blend of suspense, mystery, family relationships, and romance and I am so here for all of it!

I found it fascinating to be reading this book that touches on horse doping in racing so recently after the Kentucky Derby and after reading an article about the long list of horses that have died in recent years. In 2022, seven horses died just prior to the Kentucky Derby that year and a dozen prior to it in 2023--two ON Kentucky Derby Day. Medical reports aren't showing signs of illegal drugs being used on the horses, but the article wondered if painkillers, etc. can mask underlying conditions that would have prevented the horses from running.
And then Edwards pulls me into the UK world of horseracing. Another well-written and engaging romantic suspense tale. She does such a great job of showing how people can lose focus about what's really important as she showed us the motivations of the "bad guys."
Zander and Sophie were sweet, and I enjoyed seeing them work out their problems.

Paige Edwards’ book came slamming out of the gate from the beginning and rushed into a winning five star read for me!
Lady Sophie Henderson- level-headed aspiring horse breeder with the grace of a royal and the brain of a businesswoman- is devasted by her father’s decision to stop funding her fledging breeding program. Desperate to keep her dreams alive, she resorts to selling her personal family heirlooms as a way to give herself one more chance to race.
Zander Matthews, wealthy hedge fund manager in need of a good investment opportunity, finds himself drawn to Sophie in more ways than one. She’s his client’s daughter, his business partner, and might even be becoming something more- until some mysterious events tear at the threads that were starting to bind them together.
I seriously loved everything about this book! The romance, the immersive setting, the three-dimensional characters, the light faith thread- it was all amazing. I spent a lot of time going down Internet rabbit holes watching British flat horse races and googling the different brands and places mentioned in the books. The level of detail was super cool and made the story more interesting to read!
Also, I am convinced that Paige Edwards writes the best villains. She manages to make her villains mildly relatable in a way that makes you shudder at how quickly a person with a decent moral compass can rationalize horrible behaviors in the name of the greater good. I was also really impressed with the suspense in this book, as it kept me turning pages and left me thinking at the end.
Speaking of the end, the ending blew my socks off! I was happy with how everything wrapped up. It was also cool as well to see some final nods towards Elise and Harry’s story in the first book and some possible foreshadowing for the final Roxbury sister’s story. If the next book goes how I think it might go, I am going just going to gobble it up!

Absolutely loved the My Fair Lady vibes, the suspense, the mystery, and the romance that filled these pages. And you can’t go wrong with a Scottish Estate, British Races, and Women wearing Big Hats.
Lady Sophie Henderson has dreamed of her own thriving thoroughbred Breeding Stable (stud farm) and is well on her way with two colts ready to be entered into the races. Sadly her father is unable to support the costs any longer and Sophie turns to a childhood friend Ahern, to stable her horses for a while.
Zander Matthews is determined to help Sophie reach her dreams because of his role in her father’s decision. With his hard earned money Zander offers to be business partners with Sophie and she accepts. It helps that he has always been fond of her and his thoughtfulness and grand gestures will melt you!
Stakes are high when Sophie witnesses a murder, even though she fell and has no memory of it, the murderer tries to get to her before she can remember.
Desperation can lead someone to make bad decisions and once you walk a certain road it’s hard to shake the bad influences. Especially when people are willing to do anything for money.

I love the cover, but when I haven't read the first book in the series, I thought it was going to be Victorian. It's contemporary—and since it centers around horse racing, the hat is appropriate for the setting.
Do I actually know much about horse racing and breeding? Nope! But the book felt like it included authentic details, and I really enjoyed cantering into this world.
The characters are interesting. Sophie doesn't like the spotlight but loves her horses and breeding. She's a country girl at heart. Zander is an "upstart" or as we might say in America, "new money." And Ahern (also known as Bruce) is horrified that Zander would dare to intrude into Sophie's life. There are cameo appearances from Sophie's sisters and parents as well as a cast of characters surrounding the stables and horses.
Christian fiction elements come into the story about three times—I personally thought these moments wove into the narrative and made sense.
I've rounded up from 4.75 stars to 5.
Here's why:
- I was a tad confused that Bruce was Ahern. Why you ask? Because I didn't notice the name "Bruce" early in the story when the gentleman was continually referred to as Ahern. Did I miss it? That's possible.
- At the end (as in the last chapter), Sophie suddenly has a new fear. Something that never came out before. It was so unexpected, that it threw me off.
Those are tacky details, but they bugged me a little.
Overall, I loved the story and thought it was a splendid ride. I would highly recommend this book.

This was such an exciting book! Flat Deception is the second book in Paige Edward’s Roxbury Heirs series and it did not disappoint.
Sophie was strong willed and fiery, I loved her from the beginning. She wasn’t afraid to fight for what she believed in but she also felt deeply for those she cared about. However she had to learn to overcome the obstacles that faced her as she tried to make her dreams come true. She had to learn to let Zander in.
I adored Zander. He was so sweet and kind. He truly cared for Sophie and he had fallen hard. He was trying to figure out how to help her without stepping on her toes. I liked how he considered her his equal. However Zander had to learn how to let go of his past and not let it affect his future.
Sophie and Zander were such fun characters togethery. They had chemistry and they were able to match each other. I liked the progression of their relationship. They had to fight for each other because being with someone is hard work. The suspense was perfect and I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was happening. I don’t know a lot about horse racing but it was still so engaging. I enjoyed the side characters and getting to see cameos from other books.
I would totally recommend Flat Deception! The story drew me in and I didn’t want to put the book down. It was the perfect blend of suspense and romance with lovely characters. Flat Deception is a wonderful addition to the series and I am excited to see what is going to come next. Flat Deception is clean romantic suspense.

Sophie was strong willed and fiery, I loved her from the beginning. She wasn’t afraid to fight for what she believed in but she also felt deeply for those she cared about. However she had to learn to overcome the obstacles that faced her as she tried to make her dreams come true. She had to learn to let Zander in.

This contemporary romantic suspense novel was AMAZING! I don't know how Paige Edwards does it, but she crafts the perfect blend of the modern aristocracy with swoony romance and page turning suspense. I was completely hooked on this book.
Lady Sophie loves horses. Even with her place and influence in society, she has had to work tirelessly to establish her own breeding stable, a dream of hers. When she finally has her chance to race her horses and show her skills, proving she has a place in the equine world, she is falsely accused of equine doping and inadvertently mixed into a dangerous high stakes mess. I loved how I couldn't guess what would happen next and even with glimpses into the villain's POV, I wasn't ever certain who he was. The romance was really sweet and the complications believable. I love the way these characters were brought to life on the pages and the way Edwards captured their feelings and emotions. I was invested from the start.
This is a clean romantic suspense novel. I loved the characters and humanity in their choices and actions. The whole plot was super realistic and original. I really liked the multiple POVs and how they put a spin on everything that was occurring. I definitely recommend this book and cannot wait for whatever Edwards writes next...hopefully more in this standalone series, because I want all of these siblings to have a story.

Paige Edwards has become a favorite author of mine. She does an excellent job with interweaving subplots to create a suspenseful and hard to put down story. I never did figure out who was the mastermind behind the illegal horse racing activities. Maybe you’ll have better success than me!
With a romantic suspense you of course need a couple, and Zander Matthews and Sophie Henderson are the perfect pair. Sophie is a horse expert in a male dominated sport, having to be careful in every decision she makes. One misstep and her tireless efforts of creating a stud farm will just be a dream. I love how Zander steps in to provide her with the financial backing to follow her heart. He is patient, kind, and generous in showing Sophie he believes in her.
Ms. Edwards provides a glossary of Scottish words at the beginning of the book in case you need them. I appreciate that this was given, but I really only needed it for a couple of words because the context of the words helped me to figure out the word with no extra effort.

I highly recommend this second book in the Roxbury Heirs series. You can read this as a standalone, but you’ll want to read the other book too because it is just that good.
