It was good entertainment. It doesn't add to the plot in any way but it was good to revisit these characters.
It is a collection of novellas. I particularly didn't care for Hail and Merissa's novella, that just bored me. It was the wrong way to start this collection imo, it would have done better if it was somewhere at the end. Seth and Caleb tried to pick it up but it was just okay. Geraldine and the Heirs pov was kinda meh, I didn't really enjoy it much. Next came in Lance's pov when he saw Darcy with blue hair and the fair scene. That was the winner for me. There is no doubt that this couple has been carrying this series for a while now and I love them to bits. Reading those scenes from Lance's pov was EVERYTHING 🤌 Darius' pov after that, put me through so many emotions. Like I yearned for more of him and Tory but then the pain of their divine moment came and I couldn't keep from crying. It was good to visit Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac afterwards, it's been a long while since I read their books. It was just nostalgic and nothing more. The collection ends with Seth on the moon and all I'll say is Seth is an interesting character.
Apart from Lance and Darius, the one person who entertained me the most (and please don't unalive me for saying this) was Lionel 👀🫣 Am sorry y'all but he was so unintentionally funny 😭
Anyway, a decent collection but BlueLance for the win always 😌

It felt sooo good to meet some of the Zodiac Academy characters again. This series is my home and reading this novella reminded me how much this series has my heart. There were still some unnecessary POVs (Hail and Merissa for example) but this book was definitely worth reading for me because of Darius and Tory. I enjoyed the bluelance scenes too. This book has scenes that would open the old wounds but it also has those ZA gold scenes.

As I mentioned I really enjoyed Torydarius scenes. Darius' pov put me through so many emotions, especially the divine moment 😭. The Throne scene was soooo hawt 🤰🏻. I wanted to tattoo all Darius pov on my body. I just loveeee this man so much 🫣

Hey Lionel, how about “Die and Let Us Be” instead?
I LOVED the one where the twins meet the Ruthless Boys from Dark Fae, but the others were just okay.
➡️Each chapter is introduced by Lionel Acrux, looking back on how his enemies have thwarted him and how he overcame their insufferable rebellion.
I hate Lionel, and I didn’t care for his introductions at all. I hoped I would find his chapters funny and read them with sarcasm maybe, but instead, they were pointless and annoying. I’m sorry, but it missed its mark with me.
➡️ Savage - a short story about Hail and Merissa Vega's love story
This short story shows us how Merissa met Marcel (Gabriel’s biological father) and had sex with him because of the visions they had. Then how she met Hail, and how Lionel was starting to have a bad influence over Hail even then, and honestly I was bored so I skimmed the second half.
➡️ The Shimmering Springs - that night Caleb and Seth did or didn't kiss...
Just more edging and more of Seth and Caleb tiptoeing around each other… Same old, same old.
➡️ The moment Geraldine first saw the twins
Very short and kind of pointless to be honest.
➡️ Orion ‘blue’ alternate POV
That one was cute, and it was nice to have some cute BlueLance moments since they had a hard time in the last book.

Let Lionel Live would have been just as fitting a title; but Live and Let Lionel does have a nice ring to it, I guess. 😏 I never could have imagined the lair of Lionel could have had such a funny streak in him, but his intros to each perspective in great and painstakingly tedious detail, the torturous trials which I have suffered at the hands of such insipid Fae really lightened the mood! 😆 As much as the authors may excel on the sexy times, it's more often than note the hilarity of their writing that strikes a more winning chord within me than any other. And then there are moments of true poetry - an ode to love and romance in all ways - that have me somewhat grateful that I gave the Zodiac Academy a chance, even when we have this last novella of excerpts before we finally reach its long-awaited conclusion! 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Seeing how smitten Orion was for Blue, that fateful night that shifted their love forever - just steamy goodness. 😏

Darius' POV does something to me, y'all? 😢 I don't know why, but just seeing a bully's growth is so intense - the way he feels so much - sees how his mistakes and rash decisions has viciously and cruelly hurt the woman he loves - that if not for his choices, he could have won her heart from the start - rather than fighting to earn it. 😢 Wallowing in grief on Christmas, pacifying the possessive beast that ached for the woman who saw every flaw and truth of me'. ❤️🩹

Broke my heart then to read Roxy's stubbornness, and broke my heart all over again to see Darius' plea fall on empty words. 😭 💔 For what's mean to be, shall be, when the stars are in control. A wound so deep that when you reflect on what transpired after, I'm sure, Roxy, perhaps would have hurt him less than with her words, if she only knew just how much he meant to her. 🙂↕️
🐺 Sorrow and Starlight... and Seth ✨

Swearing allegiance to the very Heirs they scorned and ridiculed - to get that pledge from the perspective of an Heir was both cathartic and rewarding, especially from 'a Wolf who would wield the shadows of the moon for them.' 👸🏻 It was the very edge that made Lionel tremble that would shift the hand of fate against him and make him so very desperate in the final hours of defeat... 😟
Down to the home stretch! Looks like it'll be a doozy, but I'm finally ready to put this beast to rest. 💪🏻

This was unnecessary. Don't waste your money and time.
Honestly, the book added no value, mostly alternative POV to scenes we already know. Very few additional moments or information we didn't know before.
Even the spice and smut were something we had read before or completely uninteresting (Merissa and Marcel on the night they conceived Gabriel).
Sure, it is masterful how these authors are able to get in the brain of a villain and write convincingly from his POV. But otherwise, I wish the book had more content, additional chapters we have never seen before, and more of Merissa and Hail's story, because that was cut too abruptly for my liking.

Reading anything in the ZA universe is such a fun time. So reading these alternate POVs and short stories really brought me back to the series. I was really excited to read about Merissa and Hail and the start of their journey. But I really found it pointless honestly. I would have loved to see how they acted after they were together and maybe when merissa was pregnant.
The rest of the chapters though were amazing! Though Lionel’s two cents didn’t add to anything really

I'm the first to admit that there was no reason at all for this book to exist BUT I had so much fun reading it godamnit. It was so good meeting all these characters I love (and have been missing for quite a while) so much again before the next and one last time to say goodbye to them.
SAVAGE
MERISSA, the woman that you are! I LOVE her. She’s charismatic, strong, determined and she knows what she wants. And Hail Vega—aka, the Savage King—is something lol. I love him though. He’s one of a kind, and even feeling lost, he never let the shadows fully run him, nor ruin his kingdom that he loved so much.
And I obviously have known their story for years, but it still gets me. I feel so sad for them, for thinking that Merissa could never be the mom her children, all three of whom she loved so dearly even before meeting them, deserved to have, and that she deserved to be. The same goes for Hail because he used to think he would never find, or even deserve, to find love or a partner, and when finally found this…well, we all already know how it ended.
And I’m always the first to complain about unnecessary books (although I’m always reading them) BUT if Caroline and Susanne ever decided to write a book to share their story, I’d be the first to support and buy it.
THE SHIMMERING SPRINGS
SO. Altaircapella’s first kiss, huh? I needed to read ever since Seth mentioned it happened. And damn. If they’re still pretending it didn't ever happen, I don’t want to know how long it’ll take for them to finally get together together in ZA9 (I’m betting 89% of the book).

She’s just like me for real! The way she thought they were entities and always treated both Tory and Vega as the owners of all the truths is so fun and funny. I love her idc.
Lance’s POV of the night Darcy showed up with her hair dyed blue and of the Fairy Fair
BLUELANCE I LOVE YOU! It’s so good to love them, to love their love and to always win when it comes to these two (Cursed Fates and Fated Throne event disconsidered)! I promise I can’t think of any other two characters I cheered so much for, and that I love so much both individually and as a couple.
I got very nostalgic re-reading these first moments of their relationship, but it was refreshing seeing them from Lance’s POV. Speaking of which, I always knew he was insecure about so many things (after everything he lost and was forced to do, who wouldn't be?) but it almost broke me to read how broke he was, not being able to trust himself as enough for Darcy, or thinking that he was so bad she’d dump and forget him so fast. But I’m also happy to read it as he started to overcome it, and how he found in what they were building something worth of him trying to improve and be a better fae and a better man for Darcy.
Darius’POV of the ‘Throne Room’ and ‘Stars’ scenes
For every ounce of happiness I’d had reading bluelance’s scenes, dariustorys’ ones drowned me a bit further into my depression. Like. WTF??? It’s really hard loving characters who only knew TORTURE for the longest time.
The first POV is reading in a refreshing way how Darius’ heart was breaking during Christmas Eve and Christmas day, and the second is a refreshing way of how broke both Darius and Tory were by the time the stars decided—for some very screwed reason—that it was time to know they were mated. I don’t even have the words to say anything about it, because I’d already cried and rumbled so much because of #them, that I’ll only think and be happy about their whatabouts by the end of Sorrow and Starlight.
NIGHT
I’m never ever reading Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac books BUT they amuse and entertain me so much. And I love Gabriel, so getting to see a bit of how his household dynamic works was fun.
SETH ON THE MOON
I swear I have read it before and it kind of grosses me out BUT I’ll never read it and not think about how cute it is that Caleb knows Seth so well and made it possible for him to accomplish a dream he’d had since he was a cub.
Seth’s POV on Sorrow and Starlight final battle
I guess I have no words to describe what I felt reading this chapter, because what happened in it will always feel so beautiful for me. I enjoyed seeing a bit of how everyone had a sense of thrusting between them, how they could look to everyone else around and know that they were fine as long as they were together, and that they knew how or when to act. And I loved learning from someone's perspective how every person on that field was feeling the importance of this moment and watching the Savage Queen as some sort of gods.
I can’t wait to have Zodiac Academy: Book 9 with me. And although I still can't quite figure out why this book even exists, I enjoyed it so much. I'm such a sucker for Bluelance and Dariustory AND to see the final scene from Seth's perspective really was something beautiful.

February 26, 2024It’s always smiles and happiness, and well a lot of pain, when regarding zodiac academy. One of my fav series of all time, and while this novella was not something amazing I’m still going to read everything Caroline and Susan write about this universe. Merissa and Hail’s short prequel was pretty good and surprised me, so I ended up enjoying it. The heirs chapters though zodiac time before the twins were so fun and made me kind of emotional their relationship; “We were brothers forged and made, and there wasn't a force in Solaria who could crack the foundations we'd built for ourselves”. And re-reading about BlueLance and ToryDarius broke my heart again, but made me even more excited and needy of the next book asap! Also can we please finally get a SethCaleb love confession because this literally gave me nothing and I’m beyond disappointed in that matter.

Wow.
I was going to give this 3.5 stars because it was informative and a fun read, but that last chapter made it 4 stars. I had tears in my eyes reading that shit. That was a beautiful glimpse into the future and I feel like I have the strength to break my heart and finish book 7.
I just love them all so much, even when they piss me off.
Leon's chapter gave me life. I miss my lion shifter so much, I didn't even realize. And finally we got a glimpse of Elise. I missed my girl too. I love that we got their first time meeting.
Like I said; I can endure the heartbreak to come now. I'm ready.

I actually really enjoyed reading about Merissa and Hail. And also of course the Lance and Darcy chapters. Could’ve done without the rest 😝 but it was really nice to revisit all the characters since it’s been a few months since I finished this series.
