BEATEN: Sheppard & Sons Investigations: A Small Town Romantic Suspense

Rate this book
Sometimes, the person who helps us trust in love again, is the same person who makes us feel the most vulnerable.

Emily ~ When I moved back home after leaving my abusive boyfriend, I didn’t think I could ever trust another man again. But then my brother insisted on hiring a security company, owned by his best friend, Jamie. I thought it was overkill. My life was a mess and the last thing I needed was to have feelings for Jamie, but I did. He taught me not all men were like my ex. But just when I started to feel safe again, to trust again, my world was shattered.

Jamie ~ I always thought being a cop would be enough to protect the people I loved. When a stalker killed my wife, I didn’t just lose the love of my life, I lost faith in myself. Becoming a PI helped me gain it back. Then my best friend called; his sister was in trouble. I wasn’t looking for love, but I couldn’t deny my feelings for Emily. Feelings that would challenge my lifelong friendship with her big brother. Feelings that would test my ability to do my job, and keep her safe.

When Emily comes home to find her worst nightmare standing in her kitchen, she regrets not taking the threat seriously. Can Jamie get there in time? And more importantly, is their love strong enough to overcome their fears?

This standalone (second in the series) small town, slow burn, forbidden love, romantic suspense story features falling in love with a best friend’s little sister, recovery after abuse, and finding love again after tragic loss. HEA guaranteed, but only after they conquer their biggest fears. The intense action, and Emily’s history, may not be for everyone. Use Read Sample to check the copyright page for details

so bad

Wow. This was such a bad book. Don’t waste your time. The writing was like a 13 year olds diary and the editing was nonexistent.

This is easily the most boring romantic suspense I have ever read. Almost nothing happens and there is no chemistry between the leads at all.

Also, this book is filled with typos. Zero editing detected. It's also not "small town" as promised in the description.

SPICE LEVEL: Rated G / Kissing only.
CONTENT WARNING: domestic assault
FEELS: 3/5 - You will definitely feel some feels.
POV: Dual - M/F - 1st Person

Loved this book. I love that Ms. Rose indicated a trigger warning in her books.
In this book Emily Taylor finally gets away from her abusive boyfriend and goes home. Tells her brother everything. She also tells her parents. The hardest thing she’s done. Now her brother wants her to tell Jamie Sheppard who runs a family investigation firm with his family, and friends known as SSI.
Her brother hires them to protect her. She’s not happy about it. More people running her life. Telling her what she can, and can not do. But they don’t know what her ex will do.
Emily has always had a crush on Jamie. He’s had a rough time after losing his wife. He’s upset knowing what Emily has gone through, and if he starts anything he will lose focus. One kiss goes south. He tried to explain, and she took it the wrong way.
When it comes down to it he doesn’t know if he’s ready.
So many things come into play.

Highly recommend this book and Taken before.
I loved Jack and Meg’s book.
In the darkest hours there was laughter and light.
A touching moment. It warmed my heart.

Book 2 of the Sheppard & Sons Investigation didn’t disappoint! Emily and Jamie’s characters were really well developed and could feel what they were going through in the moment. Jaime, whose previous wife had passed away, felt responsible for her death and he got his redemption when assigned to protect Emily! We still got to see other characters from the first book continue to grow while Emily and Jaime continued to find their way back to each other. I loved the romance and thrill from the first book and it continued in this one as well. Can’t wait for book 3!

Jamie and Emily

I was totally invested in Jamie and Emily's story – I loved how Jamie was there for her, while overcoming and dealing with his own heartbreak. Emily's self confidence after surviving her toxic relationship is seriously heartbreaking, and I was right there with her on her journey to healing. Domestic Violence is not a joke and not everyone gets out. Eveline Rose, I salute you for shining a light on this super serious issue and showing us that even in the darkest times, there's always hope!

I really enjoyed this addition to the series.
Jamie as still reaping from the loss of his wife to murder from her stalker, a bit more detail could have been good for readers that hadn’t read previous books in the series.
Emily was Jamie’s best friends sister who came home after leaving her abusive boyfriend Craig.
Both hurting and having lots of turbulent emotions find themselves growing close as her brother Chris employs Jamie’s security company to keep Em safe.
Lots of drama ensues, I won’t spoil it but it kept me interested.
I would recommend this but felt it ended abruptly.

Another page turner

I knew I would need to wait for free time before I started reading another Rose novel. I lost sleep again. Rose is so good and crafting wounded, imperfect people that are so likeable and relatable. Plus, the repartee of the SSI staff helps to add humor. Just a well crafted story… don’t get me started on how sweet the wedding ceremony was.

This one started off good, but Jamie and Emily both needed to work through their traumas more. They had miscommunication, Emily still had issues with self worth because of her ex, and Jamie was just starting to get in the head space of dating again after his wife died. So yeah, there was a lot of stuff that really didn’t need to be in the story and I found Emily and Ashley very immature.

The characters had potential and the action moments were good, but good god this was boring and the number of misunderstandings were very frustrating.

Good story

This was a good story and I likely would have given 4 stars but there were a lot of grammatical errors putting it at a 3 star rating for me.
