I liked both characters and felt that instead of just he heroine falling over herself when the Hero is close the Hero did equal falling. Completely safe as it had been over a year for the Hero and close to that time physically (she had went out on a date about 6 months prior but nothing happened) for the heroine. No OW/OM drama. I did feel that I got a little too much info on the Hero's prior manwhore ways but there were no scenes just the info of his playing/distance keeping ways prior to the heroine. I also felt that I needed more motivation for the heroine to be on her crusade. I get she was wanting to help a friend and stand up to the "bully" but I don't see someone going to the extremes she did for those reasons alone.

As majority of all know, you should always read book series in the order that they are written and released. But I didn't. In fact, I hadn't realized this was the fifth and last installment in this series until after I had already signed up for the release blitz and started reading. But, I don't regret it for one second. The synopsis was too darn intriguing to pass up.
Hayden Tate has returned to her hometown of Lake Tahoe after a devastating past, she vows that she will return a changed woman-- stronger, smarter, and more courageous than what she was.
Now securing a dream job at Blue Casino, she vows to no longer be that limber girl she once was and to stand up to wealth, privilege, and corruption. Everything that embodies Adam Cade to a tee.
But Adam isn't on the inside what Hayden as pegged him to be. He longs for more but he doesn't know what. He wants to prove himself but he doesn't even know if that entails the Blue Casino. Until now after meeting her.
I have to admit, it was a bit bizarre walking into this blind. Like, completely. But in another sense, it was what made this read a bit more of an exciting challenge. Walking into the unknown and now curious to know how it all began. Brings on a surreal feeling.
Over all though, New Blue was an enjoyable read that tests love, friendships, family, and loyalties, and where they all fit in the ever wheeling power of prestige.
I'm now curious to know more about author Jules Barnard and how to read more from her in the future!

Synopsis

My Review
I just want to start my review by saying that when I sent in the request to the publisher to read this book, I didn't realize that it was the fifth and final book in the series (I know ... I should have done a little bit of research beforehand *shakes head in shame*).
What attracted me to the book was the synopsis which I found interesting and intriguing.
I was a little skeptical to read this story after realizing that it was the final book in the series because I thought perhaps I had "missed" too much information about the storyline, setting, and character(s) background.
I'm so glad I decided to give this book a go.
I really enjoyed this read. I didn't once feel lost or confused about prior event or character(s) relationships. The author did a fantastic job of giving the reader a 'new' story, yet incorporating character (I would assume) from the previous books.
The story flowed well, and the characters developed quite nicely.
I really enjoyed Hayden and Adam's dual point of view.
Their characters were well matched. They were both smart, loyal, sassy, and strong characters.
I really enjoyed the story's plot, and everything tied up nicely at the end (I guess that is one of the bonus' of reading the last book in the series :-)) .
Now I want to read the four other books in the series.

Very enjoyable book. This is the fifth and final book in the series but it did introduce several characters we will see in the spin off series. This one can easily be read standalone. The entire series, and this book is no exception, has great writing and characters as well as the exciting behind the scenes casino action that make it a fantastic read
In New Blue Hayden Tate is working hard in the male dominated Blue Casino and the one person she despises most just got a fantastic promotion. Of course she's not at all surprised since she's sure his daddy had something to do with it. She just has to hope he won't get in her way while she tries to dig up dirt on the casino's higher ups. Proof of corruption is the only way to take these guys down.
Adam Cade doesn't understand why Hayden seems to hate him so much but pushing her buttons is about the most fun he's had in a long time. After finally breaking away from his father, he feels like he is finally making his own way. Letting Hayden derail his efforts just isn't an option. Things just don't seem to be the way they should be at the casino though and that has him proceeding cautiously. Add to that the fact that his attraction to Hayden will not die down and he is utterly frustrated!
You definitely will enjoy Hayden and Adam's story. I highly recommend it.

I think this book would have been much better if the first 25% was gone. The first half of the book was really pretty boring, but there has to be some build to the end, I suppose. These characters seemed very bland and boring. There was far too much inner-monologue going on to make me believe they even had a connection. There wasn't any talking between the two and I am supposed to believe in their "heated stares"? Umm, no. Around the 50% mark I did start believing though. The connection wasn't anything that's gonna make you squeal, but we could at least start to feel that there was genuinely something going on. I think that's because that's about the time Hayden and Adam actually start talking. I liked the way their relationship progressed after that. Except for the lying. Adam was clearly caught up in some shady business at the casino, but as you read on you see it's mostly for intel. And let's talk about how cheeseball his associates were in the afore mentioned shady business. Omg!! Lame! The author might as well have made Paul and William greasy goons who wink with their entire faces, based on the way they left hints for the kind of women they wanted: "girls with low morals", "try strippers", "make sure they are willing to go the extra mile". I mean, what?? Serious eye rolls happened for me. Anyhoo. Then there's the fact that I was super annoyed that Hayden never listened when he told her to stay out of it. I wish she had trusted him more, but I also know that I've read enough books to know that the women rarely listen, so no surprise. The ending was a bit anti-climactic and wrapped up in a nice bow, with a little sadness that wasn't too hard to see coming. My favorite part of the whole book was the "six weeks later" chapter. Very cute!

Anyways Blue's CEO is a shady scumbag who operates way below board. He recruits a team of men referred to as Blue Stars who are just as shady as Blackwell. Currently, they have Adam Cade pinned for their next recruit.
Unfortunately for the CEO, Adam and Hayden link up and all of a sudden Adam grows a conscience. He is now torn. Will he continue down the path of lies and deceit that will ultimately lead to money, or does he follow his heart, and do right by Hayden?
Maybe it's because I didn't read book 1-4, but for whatever reason, I just couldn’t connect with any of these characters. Especially when Jaeger was introduced. I think that's when things got weird. All of these friends realizing now, they all went to high school together, yet no one knowing each other? Tahoe isn't that big... And Adam attending their same high school was super strange. The way he was written, with money oozing out of his pores, I would have thought he attended some prestigious private school.
While the idea of the story was great, the book fell flat for me. I kept waiting for the climax but it never really came. Around 80% of the novel, they became a little excitement, but like the rest of the book, it died down quickly.

I love this. So. Much. I love the enemies to lovers between Hayden and Adam and the fact that they were beyond perfect. The plot was super well thought out and I loved the steam and the banter and the flirtation and the innuendos between Adam and Hayden. Hayden and her shoe obsession and Adam. Who's just honestly hot. 'nuf said.
This was by far my favorite book out of the whole Never Date series and I seriously enjoyed myself while reading this. It was light yet had a serious topic behind it. And no joke the plot was super well done. We can see the Blue casino tension build up throughout all the Never Date books but this finale. Oh my it was amazing.
Such a good book and such a good conclusion to the series. I loved Adam and Hayden and I really loved their relationship. I mean my favorite trope is enemies to lovers and I felt that Never Date Your Enemy was just beyond perfect. I enjoyed them. It was hot and steamy but the caring between them was amazing and you can really see the love between them. So Good!!

This story is dual POV’s from Hayden and Adam.
There’s also some scenes/references which might be triggering to some readers.

Never Date Your Enemy by Jules Barnard
This is book #5 in the Never Date Series. Yes I read them in order surprise for me this usually doesn't happen but the stars aligned and I was able to enjoy them in order. In the final story of the story Hayden who left Lake Tahoe because of a scandal in high school that was based on a lie. Now a changed women she is ready to return back to her roots and make a life for herself. She lands herself a good job at a casino as head of HR. The casino is blue which has its own story of corrupt things happening at the casino. The casino just had a major scandal with one of their employees who was an executive. So the casino had to clean up its image thus they hired Hayden to be an executive to give the impression they are cleaning up there act. Adam who comes from a wealthy family lands a job at Blue Casino and this is where things go wrong for him. Adam gets tied into the corrupt things going on in the casino and is trying to shield Hayden from it all.
Needless to say so much is happening in the story with the casino and its shady corrupt business practices. Adam and Lexi are enemies from the situation for high school. I honestly didn't feel like this was that true. There is some definite chemistry between the two will Lexi and Adam become a thing.
I liked the flow of the story with the two main characters it was told in duel POV and was entertaining watching these two. Adam and Lexi each have a competitive spirit and neither really wants to lose so the bet they make will it pay off for Adam or Lexi? You need to read this romance series to find out.
This was a great ending to this series and I highly recommend this series they don't need to be read in order but I read them in order. I will read more from this author.

Full transparency- I read this book because I love the narrators, and it was a free download on audible.
I actually really enjoyed it. Parts of it we're cutesy boots for sure, but there was more plot than anticipated. Also a great conflict and plot twist. Adam was hot 🥵 Hayden was smart and didn't put up with anyone's shit in the book.. including Adam. Believable enemies to lovers story.
This is absolutely a contemporary romance, yes, there was spice and a dirty mouth, but not very spicy per se. Over all glad I read it and will try something else from this author at some point.

Mmm I just love Adam and Hayden relationship. I love how they work together. The banter and the chemistry between them is 😍! This is most likely my favorite book isn’t his series. So Sad to see this world go. Wish there was more.

Review
Standalone series can be both a blessing and a curse.
If you’ve been with them from the beginning, it’s like coming back home and hanging with familiar family. When like me, you jump in at the end of the series, you have the worry that what takes place in book five, will leave you lost considering that there has been 4 books before it.
That did not happen here. While I may not have taken part in reading the first four stories, this one, with the way it read, the way it was written, felt as though I had. The secondary characters here (main characters from previous books), were as familiar to me as the main characters of Adam and Hayden were. It was like coming home. Being with old friends and it made what was already a pretty great book even more enjoyable.
I think what really worked for me here, beside the more suspenseful and intriguing angle of trying to figure out just what was being hidden from Hayden, was the way in which it was handled. The speed of it, drawn out in all the right areas, as well as pieces being dropped at what felt like the perfect times.
Add to that, the slow burn of Adam and Hayden’s attraction turned into romance, and the history that we find out they share and just how deep it runs and this is definitely a book that based on the blurb alone, I took the chance on.
It was refreshing to have a heroine that came off strong instead of weak. Was determined despite growing feelings for the man she wasn’t sure she could entirely trust, to get answers and do the right thing by not only herself, but the other innocent people she worked for so that the cloud that was hanging over her companies head, wouldn’t remain.
And Adam, while at certain times coming across like a lot of guys in stories, being more than that. Almost a puzzle in his own right. A puzzle that only a woman like Hayden could figure out. Getting to see different sides of him was an absolute treat given the way you see him in the beginning and I was hooked on him, and these two right from the start.
But hands down I think for me is the fact that while this series is coming to a close with this book, some of the characters present in this one will be getting their own. Which means, we haven’t quite seen the end of this group yet and even though this is my first go round with this author and these characters, I for one can’t wait to see where she takes Adam’s brothers next.
My thanks to the author and all others involved for letting me read an ARC of this story. Adam and Hayden’s journey was one, that while not always easy, was one that I’m so thankful that I got to be a part of.

When I first dove into this book, I had not yet read the first 4.5 books in the series. New Blue can be read as a standalone, but I love how Jules Barnard truly pulled the series together in New Blue. I would definitely recommend reading this series of standalones because each character involved in the Blue Series are completely lovable and intriguing.
Iliked LOVED Hayden. She is not your typical heroine. She's feisty, admirable, and can not take no for an answer. It was refreshing reading about a character like her that is strong in her opinions.
And then there is Adam- your narcissistic, captivating guy is the guy we all love to hate. Rich, successful, and handsome? There must be something wrong with him according to Hayden- especially with the past they share together. But it is SO hard not to love him.
Uh swoon! Adam understands Hayden's need and drive to bring down the bad guys at Blue, but also does everything he can to protect her from herself. Which only made me love him more.
I loved the way they fought their attraction to each other.
Plus the banter between Hayden and Adam is hilarious and entertaining!
Between the brewing romance, intriguing mystery, and the laugh out loud moments, New Blue is a book you won't want to put down.

Uh swoon! Adam understands Hayden's need and drive to bring down the bad guys at Blue, but also does everything he can to protect her from herself. Which only made me love him more.
I loved the way they fought their attraction to each other.

Plus the banter between Hayden and Adam is hilarious and entertaining!

New Blue is the fifth and final book in the Blue series by Jules Barnard. Don't worry about jumping in here if you haven't read the previous books as they can easily be read out of order. I have enjoyed this series a lot, and New Blue was no exception. Even if I hadn't read previous books in this series, the blurb was one that would have convinced me to read it. If you haven't read this series yet, I would definitely recommend giving it a shot.
Hayden has returned to Lake Tahoe after leaving at sixteen due to her devastating past. Back with a confidence she didn't have before, she is determined to find success at Blue Casino. Adam Cade appears to be the exact type of privileged man that she is ready to stand up to, but Adam is also dealing with more than most would see at first glance. Soon Adam must decide whether his job and the chance for freedom from his father is more important than supporting the girl that is quickly getting under his skin and capturing his heart.
I really liked both Hayden and Adam. Each of them had so many layers to them, and I really felt like Jules Barnard did a great job developing them. Adam is struggling with wanting to be independent and break out from being under his father's thumb. He is used to living a life of leisure and the perks that come with being a child of privilege. But for the first time he is learning that there is more to life and I think Hayden had so much to do with him starting to really grow up and mature here. She was a great influence on him, and I really liked seeing her fun side brought out with Adam. Hayden had a new confidence and strength after all she had been through and I really liked her determination. These two had great chemistry and I enjoyed them together so much.
I will say that there were times that I felt like there was a lot of outside influence on their relationship, and I didn't really care for that at times. While it was great to see other characters here, I would have preferred them not becoming so involved as they sometimes did here. But this was still a really great conclusion to this series and I have enjoyed each of these books. I know that I will definitely be looking for more from Jules Barnard in the future, and I think if you like NA/Contemporary stories that this series is definitely one worth checking out.

The 5th and final instalment in the Blue Series and quite possibly my favourite book of all. This story follows Hayden and Adam, both managers at Blue Casino who, to put it simply, do not particularly like each other, pretty much, love hate. Hayden is set on bringing down the executives of Blue Casino, convinced they are involved in illegal activities. Adam is set on proving himself to his father and becoming an executive at Blue Casino. At some point during their feud, things start getting heated between the two and things become 'more'. The chemistry between the two is sizzling and I loved how their relationship progressed throughout the book. However, The more involved they became the more I was cringing in anticipation for the train wreck I could see coming in light of the things they were both involved in. I love enemies to lovers storylines and dual POV, so this book was a win win for me. I did like catching up with all the couples from the previous books, it's always good to find out what happens after the HEA. All these books can be read and enjoyed as standalones. I was provided with a free copy of this book via GoodReads in exchange for an honest review.

While I realize this is book five of a series, it does read like a standalone. The author did a splendid job of filling in the backstory. What I didn't like was the wishy-washy attitude of the supposed hero. He knows what he's a part of (no spoilers here) is illegal, not to mention immoral, yet he does nothing about it.
Most of the men involved in Cocky Prince are disgustingly misogynistic and made me want to wretch all over my tablet.
The positive is that Cocky Prince is well written. I just couldn't stomach any romantic feelings towards any of the men. Disappointing and DNF.

Bullying leaves an invisible scar more times than a visible one. Hayden has come back to the place she ran from as a student. When she was in high school someone started a rumor. It didn't matter that it wasn't true but everyone turned against her, some calling her nasty names and some going to the extremes of physically hurting her. Hayden family left town Hayden Hayden Hayden those bullies. But Hayden is back. Hayden has put up walls and is now determined that no one will knock them down. Not her cruel demeaning CEO and his Blue management, nor the blatantly cocky, handsome new hospitality manager Adam, who seems to be on the fast track to joining them. Something illegal is happening in the Blue Casino and Hayden is determined to find out and put a stop to it, but Adam is determined to keep her in the dark. When Mira suggests Hayden get closer to him if she wants to uncover the truth Hayden decides it may be the answer. Or is it that she may actually be attracted to the handsome cocky man who keeps catching her in embarrassing positions and makes it clear he'd like to see her in more, but with him? Things heat up and Hayden is shocked when she finds out that her and Adam actually have a history and that her new friends Mira and Nessa are also connected to her past. Hayden finds herself falling for Adam despite suspicions he is involved in the illegalities she suspects is happening at Blue. Everything seems to be coming to a head at Blue but Adam is still keeping secrets. Suspicious, she decides to go it alone in finding out what the management of Blue is up to when they have a secret unveiling of something they call Bliss, and goes undercover as a burlesque dancer to enter a forbidden section of Blue. Her disguise doesn't work. Adam knows every part of that body, and frightened for her safety he removes her from the club, he thinks. The CEO also sees through the disguise when Hayden sneaks back in and sends his security team after her. He has a lot to lose. It's time to run and call in the law. Adam is devastated when his father who has been acting strangely for some time suddenly passes away and when Mira makes a passing comment about her suggestion to Hayden about getting close to Adam was a good idea, the past causes him to react badly and he leaves her broken and alone. Is that how she will spend the rest of her life?

I rather enjoyed listening to this book. The story between Adam and Hayden. They have physical attraction to each other from the first time he walks into her office. Unfortunately this is not the first time they have crossed paths and while Adam does not recognize the h, Hayden definitely remembers the H and holds some resentment towards him.
I loved how the chemistry was instant between Adam and Hayden and loved how their relationship developed. So why only 4 stars instead of 5? Well these to frustrated me. On one hand Hayden was so busy trying to be a white knight and prove something because of her past, that she missed the mark so many times. On the other hand Adam was trying to prove something to his father while also getting from under his father that he comprised himself so many times. Even after what the H did it the end they way he handled things with Blue, his dad and, Hayden did not make him totally redeemable to me.
There is an HEA after some tragic circumstances( hopefully this is not a spoiler, but you will see it coming towards the beginning of the book). To my there wasn't any real action or resolution in this book. Each book in the series had some sort of thrill and/or suspense. This book just fell short in the department, which to me took away the excitement.

I give it 3.5-4 stars. It was a free audiobook, and the narrators were amazing so that probably gives it a star or so.
Anyways, as with a lot of free audiobooks I almost DNF'd it after the first chapter but held on. The internal thoughts of Hayley were 90% annoying to me.
However, when the author had actual dialog between all the characters it was amazing, so I kept on.
This is one of those books that I thought was about to end and felt it was a good place to actually END! ......yet I looked at my phone and saw I was only a little over halfway over. SIGH (red flag goes up for me on these).
Yep, we went on a rabbit trail, and it ended up being too much drama for me in one story. I would have given this a 2 star until I came on here to review and realized this was book 5 in a series that is "supposedly" a standalone and it gave me some perspective.
The only character from this story I actually liked was Mira. So, I put the book that she was the MC on my to read list. Hopefully it's free too so I can listen to it at work tomorrow.
I hope this author will do a series that lasts a few books but you need to read in order. She has great ideas but it's too much in standalones. Her publishers should let her develop a new series and go the way the normal authors do that build on their stories.

This is a book 5 in the series but you can read it as a stand alone and not be lost as it gives the details of the others . I loved Haden she was trying to fight for what is right and get to the mystery of what her boss was doing wrong after her friend was assaulted and they found a room in the casino that pointed to more foul play. What she didn’t count in is Adam cade who is sexy smart and rich. E playboy that fits into the plan the bosses want or so they think. She needs to play her card right even if he rubs her wrong or maybe right. Dang the chemistry and sexual attraction. Adam is at a crossroads as he wants to break away from his fathers hold and the casino. So he to Blue to prove he can do it on his own. When his hit with a blast from the past. Sexy Haden he didn’t realize it was her at first because she was a sexy nerd in school and it’s been few years. As they get to know each other and they both fall into lust/love the secrets of Blue come full circle and more dangerous. Will they be able to make it out together plus there is Adams Father and something sad there. But I won’t give more there. I will say I was excited to find that there are books on his brother so I will be reading those.

Wonderfully complicated
This is fifth in the series, but you don't need to read the other books for it to make sense. I haven't read the other books yet and I had no problems faltering along since the author made sure to cover everyone's backstory.
I liked this book. There is some overdoing it with the doubting of the male lead, but it all has to do with the female lead's past. I enjoyed the story and how the characters evolved in their thinking and learned to think about others and not just their own agendas.
This is a good friendship and enemies to lovers story. They clear up their past issues once they run into each other outside of work. Hayden thinks that they are on opposite teams at work, but Adam didn't know that. Outside of work they let a friendship and feelings grow.
Will the mystery at work and the ruthlessness of their boss tear them apart before they can admit their feelings? Will Adam's quest to get away from his family's money make him break Hayden's trust?
Give this one a try and then check out the rest of the series and the spinoff for Adam's brothers.

I was most looking forward to this book in the series because of the enemies-to-lovers concept but I had mixed feelings about it. It started off fine but toward the end, Hayden was really annoying me. She was constantly talking about how she just knew the casino was up to illegal shit and was finding articles about her boss being involved with some really shady people and yet she thought she could just sneak into their illegal party without any consequences all because she wore a wig and makeup? Like what? How stupid do you have to be to think oh it's fine these criminals won't hurt me if I go looking for evidence against them. It was stupid and could have led to her and Adam being killed and she had the audacity to get mad at adam for keeping shit from her. So stupid. Besides that part of the book though, it was a decent book. I wish we would have had more info about the shit that went down with the casino since it was a huge part of the series but besides finding out Blackwell was in prison we didn't get much else.

I read this on audible and if it wasn't for the narrators i would have given this story 2 stars. Zachery and Susannah did a great job but omg i have never read a book with a more infuriating female character who i hate so much! Adam was a truly nice guy but Hayfen was selfish, self centered, naive and just urgh! She just kept going on about how she's going to make things right but she was just plain rubbish at it. Time and time again Adam asked her to trust him but she refuses, causes problems in the situation and the relationship between them. Why couldn't she see that he was clearly better resourced and in a much better position than her to deal with what's going on and what they're trying to do. No, all she could see was that he was 'with them' and 'supporting them' like seriously woman! I did enjoy the beginning and their enemies to lovers plot but honestly from about 70% on she seriously started to annoy me.

I started reading COCKY PRINCE after reading HARD WOOD, wanting to see if the first book was just a fluke. I quickly learned it wasn't. It wasn't easy for Jules Barnard to pull it off, but somehow she did. I started off disliking Adam, but by the end I was rooting for him to find his HEA. I loved the way it all turned out, so sweet and romantic, and the engagement ring was the perfect touch. I was also thrilled to read the other proposal at the end (since I'd read HARD WOOD just before reading this one). Bonus HEA!
I've never been a big fan of first person stories, but some of my favorite reads lately have been written in the first person, so I'm revising my opinion. I especially loved the back and forth between the hero's and heroine's perspectives, the way Jules Barnard does it.
