There's snow place like home! Sausage-loving Gnome and pragmatic Rat are BACK and ready to hit the slopes in the third installment of this early graphic novel series.
Gnome and Rat can't wait to hang out with Rat's family for Nest Fest! But a blizzard has hit and Gnome wants to enjoy it with snowy activities. Surely, they have enough time to enjoy the snow and arrive on time to the festival... right?
Bundle up with these funny friends as they practice their ice dancing skills and break out the Gnomeboggan for a ride to remember. But will they make it to Nest Fest before it's over?
One thing is for sure, these two snow exactly how to have a good time on the with each other.
In this winter adventure, the unlikely duo of Gnome and Rat are on their way to Rat’s annual Family Nest Fest. What should be a straightforward journey, ends up wonderfully sidetracked by Gnome's infectious enthusiasm for all things winter. Bouncing along with infectious energy the pair encounter one delay after another, from impromptu ice dancing to gnomebogganing escapades. Fast paced and filled with unexpected delays, the story embraces every unexpected delay with humor and joy. Digital illustrations capture the playful spirit as brings extra doses of hilarity to already amusing scenes. Themes of friendship, balancing Gnome’s boundless energy with Rat’s eternal patience, will not be lost on young readers. The story reminds us that some of the best memories come from life’s unexpected detours. Humorous backmatter, a visual list of favorite “mousemellow” recipes and table of contents are a nice addition. Link to complete review: https://ysbookreviews.wordpress.com/2...
In the last Gnome and Rat book, we were celebrating Gnome's birthday and lamenting the lack of Rat celebrations. In this book -- we get to join Rat and Gnome and they head to Rat's home to celebrate Nest Fest.
We don't get a lot of snow where I live but today, I woke up to a surprise snow! Not much but any snow is exciting. Gnome agrees! He is eagerly anticipating the first snow (and all the snows that follow it). He wants to break out the ice skates. And all the other fun winter gear. But first - he and rat must trek over the mountains and through the snow to get to Rat's family home. Along the way, they ice dance and ride the Gnomeboggan. After a few mishaps - they arrive in time to have lots of hot chocolate with Mousemallows. Which are not made from mice.
Another fun and silly adventure that both kids and parents should enjoy reading. Be sure to have some of your own mousemallows on hand!
First sentence: A four-letter word for 'something fluffy and white, that falls overnight...'
Premise/plot: Gnome and Rat star in their third adventure together in Lauren Stohler's Gnome and Rat First Snow! Rat and Gnome have been invited to Rat's family event Nest Fest. But the journey to get there, well, it is packed with a lot of missteps and adventures.
My thoughts: I loved, loved, loved the first book. I haven't read the second book--still on order at the library. The third book is one I wanted to love: it sounds FUN. However, it just didn't charm and delight me like the first book. Though the misadventures were technically different/distinct, the journey to get there just seemed so slow-paced to me. Granted I am NOT the target audience, obviously. I do enjoy the characters. I will definitely read the second book when it arrives.
There's nothing better than the first snow of the season, especially when it falls just in time for Nest Fest. Rat and Gnome are delighted with the snowfall, and they head out to visit Rat's family. Along the way, they do some ice dancing, ride on a runaway toboggan, and manage to make it just in time for hot chocolate with plenty of mousemallows, served with good cheer. Fans of the previous two books in this series will enjoy this one and the personalities and particular quirks of the characters. The comic format with a variety of panel sizes works well to support this story. And above all, who doesn't love that very first snow of the season when everything seems so clean and quiet?
I think I'm going to have to start my onmwn Nest Fest! Get snuggley under blankets and the like. Gnome and Rat's journey to Rats parents is most of the story and the ice skating is hilarious especially when they upset the geese, then their encounter with a yeti. I love seeing Rat with his family. And as always facial expressions have a huge impact on this story.
Graphic Novel The two friends are back for more adventures. Readers enjoy the first snow with them as they head for Nest Fest. They have funny adventures and learn new skills along the way. The artwork captures the humor and adventure. Lower elementary readers will love these characters.
Each of these books has been better than the previous one. Gnome and Rat are on their way to Rat Fest, where they do cozy warm things. But Gnome wants to have fun in the snow along the way, which leads to some detours. Funny little jokes scattered throughout.
