He defeated the Mountain Lord. He won. But the game didn't end, it merely evolved. Taking on the title of his fallen predecessor, Mountain Lord Konroh gets his final task: defend the spire at any cost.
A whole host of new systems open up. Erstwhile villains now owe Konroh their fealty. He can reassign monsters to new zones, teach his minions new strategies, and beef up his fortifications to his heart's desire. But everything come at a cost. To pay for it all, he'll need to kill players without getting personally involved. Because to harm a player before they enter his castle will incur penalties that could cripple Konroh's hopes of survival.
And those players are coming for him. Defeat is inevitable when you're a raid boss... or is it?
Final Release is the 4th and final book in the Pixelate series. Pixelate is a LitRPG fantasy series that follows the adventures of Arnold O'Connor as his digital self, delving into the secrets of a world that feels as real as his own body. The Pixelate series will appeal to fans of classic tabletop RPGs, World of Warcraft, and Lord of the Rings Online. It touches on themes of self and reality, style vs. stats, and how to kill dragons through the superior application of math.

Claiming the Spire of Fate is one thing. Defending it is another
There's something about this series that makes me stop everything to read the next book. I have plenty of other, much more important, things I should be doing, but when I new XPH book drops I just have to read it straight away.
The previous three books have followed Arnold and Izzy and their virtual selves through the development of an immersive and sprawling VR game. As well as the actual players, though, the creators of the game have based AI characters on some of their beta testers, and those AIs really don't want to lose.
Having made it to the top and beaten the previous Mountain Lord, the tables have turned. Arnold's avatar Konroh, aided by his virtual bestie Dyz, now has to defend the Spire of Fate from thousands of attacking players. And that will need all the skill and cunning he has built up over the previous books.
I love the way that this series follows Arnold and Izzy though their life together in parallel with the development of the game. I don't know if we will see any more of Arnold, Izzy, Konroh or Dyz. Even if we don't, I have had the best time reading about them in these books.
We re-enter the world of Spires of Fate once more. While it is clear that time has passed in the real world, we also see the impact of changes and time in the game world.
Arnold and Izzy re enter the game world that they have not seen since the beta. Time has passed and life has happened. However they are still able to use their wits and tester knowledge of the game world to ease their transition back in.
Meanwhile Konroh and Dyz, the "AI"s created from Arnold and Izzy's previous playthroughs are the most recent to defeat the endgame "bosses." These already powerful builds are now raid bosses, and are shown the inner workings of the game. They see how the game is built for them to benefit from all the player deaths that happen in the game, and use that benefit to build the game world into something bigger, stronger and harder.
The inevitable confrontation is coming. Which side will prevail?.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
