Sean Ferro is a liar. Everything he’s ever told me melts away until only the truth remains and I don’t like what I see. Gabe tried to warn me, but I didn’t understand the depths of Sean’s corruption until he let them take me away. After everything we’ve been through, I’m crushed, but I refuse to accept this fate. Screw that, I’m not dying tonight.
H.M. Ward continues to reign as a NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author who surpassed more than 23 million books sold, placing her among the literary titans. Ward has been featured in articles in the NEW YORK TIMES, FORBES, and USA TODAY to name a few.
I received an ARC from the author for a fair and honest review.
I can't believe I have to write this type of review!!! I am so disappointed!! Book #13 leaves us with a crazy cliffhanger. As always, Ms Ward doesn't leave us hanging with unanswered questions for too long. It's the "how" she wrapped then up which was the big disappointment. I've explained in the spoiler section below.
Then there are the two new developments with Black. WTH?!?! I hate where this is going.
Then Marty... this guy needs to get laid and he deserves someone a whole lot better than Avery!! This series is becoming a pity party for Avery!!! Grow up!!!!!
And there was filler!!! I hate books with filler!!! The banana scene??? What hetero male would have done that?!?! Turn off!
The ending...how much longer can this series go on???? What is the point if their relationship just keeps going back and forth????
I love twists and turns along with crazy cliffhangers but, their relationship is going in circles and this has gone on for too long. This book hasn't left me feeling like I can't wait for the next book. That's not good. I think it's time to establish when an end is coming.
Spoiler Alert...
The cliffhanger from#13... Well it wasn't very surprising that Sean was just trying to get her out unseen but wasn't drugging her a little drastic??? Then she ended up walking out??? The drugs would have knocked her out. What was the point of returning to the room????
The girl in South Oaks???? Is Ms Ward just wanting to drag out Sean's issues for a zillion more books??? This made me like him less!! How much longer are we going to have to read about his dark side?? If this is who he really is, then let's wrap this up!! And if he miraculously turns golden boy, it will not seem believable.
The third fiance... didn't it seem like she was just waiting for a call??? And if the publicity was so good wouldn't his brothers, Brian and Trystan have known about her?? It wasn't believable at all! And wouldn't he have gotten rid of her before proposing to Avery???
Then the first fiance???? Just horrible going that direction!!!! I thought Black was in her 50's and isn't that creepy that she sets him up with hookers now????? What was Ward thinking??? I really don't like this twist in the series!! Really don't like it!!! And right out of high school??? I hate to say it but this grosses me out!!!
The Madame job offer????? What is happening to Avery's character?? "I want to be myself and Black is offering that to me" Umm, what??? This isn't Avery!!!
Has no one noticed ALL the ARC reviews and ratings for this book BEFORE it is even published?! New Adult readers wake up! We are being manipulated.
Of course the vast majority of these reviews are glowing with 4 to 5 star ratings! These reviewers are being rewarded for positive reviews by being provided free publications and increased reviewer followings!
And just as a dealer gives away cheap crack initially, the first "hit" of vol. 1 of this endless series is now nearly free at $.99 ! This is yet another "cheap trick" to attract new unsuspecting customers. Customers who, once they get "hooked" like us, will continue to pay much more to purchase the remaining "installments" of this "string-along" series at full price or worse yet on time with interest!
Remember how this over priced and drawn out single "book" disguised as a series started out about a VERY high cost but lower class inexperienced amateur call girl who was drawing out her relationship with a needy and dysfunctional but VERY wealthy man and was therefore raking in the money with a payment for each brief encounter with the one man to whom she could and should have been having a meaningful relationship and encounters with for FREE?
Art imitates life. This author was trying to tell us something.
We, her addicted and unsuspecting customers, are paying way too much for this endless series of amateur "books" which are being pimped to us as "quality stuff".
For $98 for the soft copy edition (full price for the 1st time pub of $7 x 14) of this "single book in a series", one would expect this to be a well crafted story book.
But instead of a well crafted $98 bottle of wine,
we get a partially filled bottle of home brewed (with the total price for the "full glass" TBD) !
IF I had paid the full price for this book and the 9 proceeding books at $7.19 per paper back "edition" or the e-book $.99 (1st "teaser") through $2.99 for series 2 -14 I would have been outraged by now.
Because I am reading these books for FREE I am not outraged - just very disappointed. (I am however more than offended for my friend who paid $28 for the kindle series 1 - 10. Assuming she buys 11-14 now at $2.99, she will be paying $42.00 for the equivalent of a single digital Kindle book!? While I thank her for sharing her "supply" with me, I still think she should consider kicking this habit and looking for another less expensive and better quality author "supplier". )
As someone who has been reading amateur fan fiction for years, I must say that this entire drawn out 14 plus volume story is not much better than much of the former FREE fan fict. That said, it is also not up to the best of the fan fict. that I have read over the years - much of which has been pulled to publish in the last several years and have gone on to be best sellers.
Given what one could get for FREE in amateur works or for $7.99 in the standard quality books by established authors, I am simply amazed what people are paying for this doled out artificially created "series".
I think it is inexcusable to not write a story and go back and edit and revise it to make it one comprehensive and cohesive story and then publish it as a single book and be DONE!
It is a generally poorer quality book (and almost any product as a matter of fact) that results from a linear seat of the pants, piecemeal development plan. Quality requires a master plan, continuous review and editing, and testing BEFORE release to the consumer. Even books with a stream of consciousness style are not actually developed from a stream of consciousness!
In fan. fict., where there is live development, stories take time and are "published" piece meal as they are works in progress. The Arrangement is not being published live and so there is absolutely no reason or justification, other than to milk the reader, to make this a series.
For established and mainstream authored books, a series is usually comprised of individual fully developed length books that have a complete story with resolution OR a trilogy would be a VERY long and complex story that requires several "acts" due to great length, and therefore a division or separation in publication volumes. Each book may explore different people or build upon one another but again each book can largely stand alone.
There is absolutely no justification for this to be a series when each "book" is very short and there is no resolution to an individual story and the characters have basically stayed the same through out.
I am offended for all readers who have come to this table month after month, after having paid full price and patiently waiting with expectation, only to be served one course of warmed over left overs. Leftovers, which in this case at least promise some flavor, but often blandly fulfill the caloric requirement but are never fully satisfying.
I am offended for my friend who has not only been strung along but also has been pinched for a total of $28 so far for the kindle editions 1 - 10 with no end in sight.
Frankly, I generally have not been compelled to give 1 star reviews to any book because either I do my research and avoid anything that bad, or I just stop reading the book and don't bother even remembering it no less bothering with a review. But I might consider doing a one star if it is a new book and I feel compelled to warn my friends about their being potentially ripped off in money or time OR if I am wildly angry about something in the book.
The only reason I was not wildly angry about this whole "string-along series" before was that I got to read these books in a few sittings (VS going hungry for months), for free (VS paying over inflated prices for a "piece" of a book), and it was mildly entertaining. But even at this free rate, I did feel ripped off and was not at all satisfied with the lack of an ending AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN as the series continued with no end in sight ...
Now with this latest fourteenth "installment", I am finally wildly angry and outraged!
I belatedly realize now just how much we unsuspecting readers have been manipulated.
One method was, and continues to be, the illusion of a cheap initial "buy in" and "installment plan" with some implied but never stated promise of a final product delivery.
Another method was, and continues to be, the illusion of a large fan following and initial positive reviews for each book "installment". This illusion was, and continues to be, created and fueled by a large volume of "paid" reviews and ratings generated BEFORE each actual publication. For example, using this method, so far there are 37 ARC reviews and 67 ARC ratings for this the 14th installment alone! Such a volume of favorable reviews will go a long way to reduce the impact of any paying customer low ratings and will bury any critical reviews while also "positively" peer pressuring any readership "following"!
So sadly, as a result of this whole misadventure, I am no longer a 1 star rating virgin and am even more disillusioned and cynical about the whole new adult romance fiction book publication trends.
I have likely also wasted my time on a book that will never end and a review that will never be seen (and if it is, it will likely anger the author and/or some fanatical fans).
I have also relearned an important lesson from modern and ancient history: Caveat emptor!
Free or otherwise, this will be my last reading of any installment of this endless string-along series.
Every time I finish one of the installments (let's be realistic these are far from being called a "book" with the length of each one) I get more and more disappointed with where this series is headed. The sheer amount of 5 star reviews still baffles my mind, and I can't understand how anyone reading this series can say how amazing each one of these is, sometimes stating that one is better than the last. I think as we get further and further in, one is actually worse than the one before it. Arrangement 13 ended with Sean telling Avery to go with Black which was surprising to say the least and left me thinking, where on earth was the author going with this (and not in a good I can't wait to read it way). This one opens up with Avery being drugged and carried out in a box by Gabe and some other goon type character. She ends escaping the box and going back to her room. If she was drugged, she wouldn't have been able to stand up and walk up a flight of stairs. I mean lets be realistic for a minute. And where did the drugged part even come from? It doesn't mesh with the ending of the last one. Avery being angry at Sean for finding out that he already has a fiance back in California was probably the only real part of the book, it was actually how a woman would act in that situation. However all of the events that take place after that makes me wonder if the author actually remembers the content of the first 10 books or if she just continues writing with no thought to what was already "set up" in the plot. Black offers Avery a job as a madam, where the hell did that even come from?? Avery was always ashamed that she had a job as a call girl, Black was always tearing her down for her clothing, how she behaved etc, what would make her offer Avery a job to be in charge of other call girls??? Especially when she has barely had experience as one herself. The fact that Avery actually considers this offer throughout the book is baffling to me and totally contradicts her character up until this point. I know she needs money but still, it doesn't make any sense that something she hates so much and claims is so immoral would be something she would consider doing as a profession. And I am sorry, I have said this in my last few reviews and I will say it again, what happened to her doing anything to get her degree??? Which is the reason that she started being a call girl in the first place. She doesn't appear to have any feelings either way about missing finals, or really almost the entire semester because there is someone trying to "kill" her. Sean revealing that he has had 4 fiances, including Amanda totally came out of left field, especially when he revealed that one of them was Black herself. ARE YOU SERIOUS HM WARD??? Black was supposed to be a much older woman, someone in her late 40's early 50's and Sean is what in his 30s? Would that even happen?? I mean come on. That was absurd to me. The fact that this girl in California is on the payroll to clean up his image, why didn't that ever come to light before? Why wouldn't Sean have told Avery that before he proposed to her or in any of the time that they talked about the past or the future since then? The fact that Avery all of the sudden is afraid of Sean, that she doesn't know if she loves him and that she is afraid of him seems odd to me when all of this time all she wanted was to be with him. The fact that Avery goes to Marty when she is in trouble when she hasn't spoken to him since she showed up at his door as his escort that one time many books ago seemed out of place. The entire scene with him, studying for finals and taking her for ice cream was irrelevant to the entire story, did it really need to be in there? The whole exchange with the banana? What straight guy would ever do that in public, whether or not he was with a friend??? None that I know of that's for sure. But I guess it was the only way to bring Marty back into the story since he has been absent for so long. Mel being at the strip club was confusing, I thought she was in hiding. Is she hiding at the strip club? Her saying that Avery and herself were Blacks highest earners is again contrary to every other book in this series, someone needs to help me understand how Avery can be the top call girl when she has only had sex with Sean. A date with Henry and Marty where no sexual activity took place and some phone sex in a hotel does not scream high paid call girl to me. I also think it is important to make sure that the places being references on Long Island are actually accurate in distance. Marty takes Avery back to her dorm in Manhattan and ends up at a bar on Sunrise Highway??? A bar that she walked to?! There is no way that could ever happen. The two are no where near each other, especially if traveling by foot. This series needs to end and end very very soon. It only gets more ridiculous as each book is released, this is more like a daytime soap opera than a believable love story. You are again left with more questions than answers received. I can honestly say that I am just about at my limit with this series and although I always like to finish one once I start it and all of the time that I have put into reading it, I don't know if I will see this one through at this point. I will have to think long and hard before I purchase the next chapter of this never ending saga.
This was an okay story, although it felt longer than it was.
I still don’t really get Avery, she was the one that signed up to be a call-girl, but then she doesn’t like it when someone calls her one, or asks her to do a job! You are the one who got yourself into this mess Avery!
The cliff-hanger concerning Sean’s other fiancée was cleared up, but we still don’t know who is trying to kill Avery. There were more deaths in this book, but no sex whatsoever. 6 out of 10
Nobody puts Avery in a box! The Arrangement 14 installment ...delightful. I do love a brave man. Sean Ferro is a definitely a brave man- double dealing, demented, and delicious man too! The tale that couldn't get any darker, does. Luckily, I have a light on my helmet for such an occasion as dark tales and getting trapped in a box..Hrm... I am getting a Clue vibe from the story, we need to know "who done it." In order to get that information, Madam Ward, we need the next installment asap. So I am thinking yesterday. I am ready for some happiness for them! Lovely job as always.
This series just gets stupider and stupider. With each book Avery gets dumber. WTF would want to be a madam? How about finishing school and do something with your life. She acts like Sean is trying to keep her in a lock box. He should just leave her ass I am sick of this series. Maybe I should just let her finish the series before I read anymore. I m glad I don't spend money on this series even if it was .99cents because this is getting out of hand.
While I enjoy this story and the mystery and characters it's getting old. And seriously $2.99 for a 60 page book is totally ridiculous. I know this is fan based book and the author writes more for the fans, that's nice and all, but let's just combine the rest of the series and do normal length books.
Im sorry H M Ward, but this book was erh umm just plain terrible.
I was completely lost during the first few pages. Not sure how she went from being drugged in a box to hitting Sean back in her room, giving him his ring back, then getting a job offer from Black, then leaving with Sean to go back to the strip club??
She's with him then she's not. He's telling her to stay with Black, then he's not. Too much tooing and froing - seems like its just drawn out to fill a book for no good reason.
Im not liking the main character either. She's not building as a character, she gets more weak as the story progresses (or not progresses as in the case of this book), geez just let sean pay black what is owed and leave - get your shit sorted out and maybe then look at a relationship, and a healthy relationship - not one based on lies, deceipt and aggressive (bordering on rape) sex.
Ugh very frustrating.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Avery is still reeling from Miss Black's bomb dropping at the end of the last book. And now Miss Black is making her an offer that neither Avery, nor I saw coming. Avery should have known to have more faith and trust in Sean.
This installment was not one of my favorites. Avery was beyond childish and annoying and I seriously don't understand why Sean is so in love with her.
Finally he's trying to give her what she wants and is opening up himself to her and she acts like a petulant child and throws it back in his face.
"Kiss me. Use me. Take anything you want. I'm yours. I'll be yours until I take my last breath and think of you every time I see the sky, the sun, or a snowflake. I can't escape you and I don't want to. Say I haven't lost you. Tell me you still love me." ~ Sean
There was a revelation about Sean's past that totally came out from left field. It all just seems a bit bizarre and yet still entertaining. We are left with a huge cliffy at the end, and at this point, I am hoping the killer finally does the deed and kills Avery. I am so over her!!!
I will keep reading these till the series ends because I've already invested so much time and money into it, and I really do love Sean Ferro. :)
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review...
HOLY SHIT!!! I am so totallay at a loss of words right now I don't even know where to start! H.M. Ward just keeps getting better with every book! She never disappoints me, and she definitely DIDN'T this time either!!!!
OH MY SEAN... how I love you, twisted and all! Then theres Avery and well... WHAT A FREAKING CLIFFHANGER YET AGAIN!!!! You're killing me H.M. Ward but in a very good way cuz I keep coming back for more! Can't wait for AR15
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**
One word describes this volume...BRILLIANT! Every time I think that it can't get any better than the last, I am completely thrown out of a loop and rendered incorrect. AR14 doesn't disappoint at all. It begins right where AR13 ended, so we get to know what happens after Avery gets put in the box. The situation between Avery, Sean and Ms. Black intensifies and many WTF moments happen that had me on the edge of my seat. Past secrets are revealed, a realization is made and a proposition is on the table that is totally unexpected. It was a revealing volume but left more questions unanswered between Avery and Sean. What will happen next? We are also treated to crossover characters where the situation left me with questions which will probably be answered once their books come out. I love it when she does this because she gives us a glimpse of what may be to come in their stories. And as always, we are left with H.M. Ward's infamous cliffhangers that honestly has me in complete and utter shock, which I seriously didn't see that coming at all! Totally love The Arrangement Series and can't wait for AR15 to come out!
I can't understand why this book is getting so many high ratings. I'm kind of over it. In the beginning it was a great series but now only the last 6-7 pages peak my interest. I'm tired of soaking money into these books and not getting more excitement, more action. Very very disappointed fan.
Son of a Ferro!! Shizz just got serious...I tell you what Miss HM Ward you are about to give me a mental illness. I can't get enough. I feel crazy obsessed with this series. I find myself constantly stalking your FB page just to get the tiniest hint of when the next one will release. Also thank you so much for working on 14 so hard to put it into our hands so quickly.
Avery and Sean can't catch a freaking break. Miss Black is one cray cray bizzitch. Still love me some Gabe. I love the tiny fixes of the other Ferrolicious men in this series. I am so ready for all the pieces to slide together but at the same time I'm not because I don't want it to end. I am so conflicted. Anywho...awesome job and I will continuer to stalk you via FB ;)
Also my new word is Ferroine...these Ferro men have made me an addict in need of her next Ferro fix each and every time I finish a book.
As I posted on H.M. Ward's Facebook page, I'm becoming more and more displeased with this series. It is like that bad friend you have that just is consumed with drama. So much drama that you constantly say, "you can't make this sh## up." And, eventually all sane friends have to let that drama go in order to continue on their lives in a good place. I feel as though I'm walking a very fine line. If the crazy doesn't stop and resolve itself...I'm just gonna have to leave the crazy. It's not the kind of relationship I want to have with a series.
Once again we're on the roller coaster ride of Sean & Avery. Avery sees the depth of Sean twisted corruption & doesn't like what she sees. But fight is what Avery does & she fights to save herself one more time. She refuses to let this be the end & fights with all that she is.
I was given an ARC for an honest review. what can I say that I haven't said a hundred times? these books are so amazing! the suspense is killing me though. who the hell is trying to kill Avery? I have no clue. are they really after Sean too? or is someone just trying to kill all of miss blacks girls? ugh Holly you're killing me here. I know Sean is a sick, dark, mean man in some ways. But I believe deep in my heart that he truly loves Avery. I cannot wait for the next installment. these books are so full of suspense, questions, drama, and hottness. and no sex in this one....I know I couldn't believe it. it doesn't matter though because they are amazing. Ok my guess now is....did Marty kill her nasty roommate ans naked guy? I don't know?????
The ending of the last book was AWESOME. It could have took this in a whole new direction in this book but the outcome didn't make it. It was a let down. This needs to wrap up...it had a good run with characters that get you hooked but it's going in a loop now, like going backwards instead of the finish line. HM is an amazing writer. love her book but his one didn't have it for me.
Again, I waited for this installment on the edge of my seat. I find it so exciting wondering who is after Avery? Or are they after getting even with Sean? Payback for Miss Black? Who knows... I haven't got a clue yet, but I will keep looking for hints because I want to solve this mystery.
I just realized I finished this installment and was all revved up, but there were no hot sexy scenes? The excitement is coming from the thrilling plot and the interactions between characters. So much is going on, right now it is like I dropped a 100-hundred piece puzzle on the floor and I need to put it back together. There are sections of the puzzle that are still together and complete giving me glimpses of what the whole puzzle should look like, but enough pieces are still to be pieced together that the overall look eludes me.
Avery is so young and the decisions she is being asked to make would be mind-boggling to a person of a more mature age. Needless to say, for someone as young and with her history, this has to be an overwhelming task for her. At some point, she needs to find balance in her life and with it hopefully happiness. Whether Sean is part of that balance and that future life, remains yet to be seen.
Bravo, H.M. Ward! Once again I am on the edge of my seat hoping the next installment won't be long in coming.
Twist, turn, up, down, in, out, upside down, backward, forward, on-the-ceiling madness – all appropriate words for AR14. O-M-G! What a rollercoaster! My heart is still racing! I am so exhausted from this segment, I smoked half a pack before I knew it.
And oh holy hell! Trystan’s little conversation with Avery? I just want to die! BTW, I love Marty. In the end, I kind of had a suspicion of what was going to happen, but was truly happy at the bonus that feed my need for violent revenge against bad people.
If that wasn’t enough of endorsement for this segment of The Arrangement, you need your head checked. This series is so addictive, it’s worse than crack. It leaves you shaking, nauseous, and completely wanting more, like – NOW! That’s what I think H.M. Ward is. She is a reader’s drug dealer and doesn’t apologize for it. Why should she? All I can say is, AUTHOR, AUTHOR! Applause, applause! More, more, more!
I received an ARC of The Arrangement 14 for my honest review Another WOW part to the epic series! Every time I try to guess what will happen next I am always wrong. There is so much drama and it’s so unexpected it has you gripping the edge of your seat. Black is such an evil woman but I kind of like her surprises. In this one Sean is more revealing about himself and wasn’t expecting what I read! Avery is such an awesome character and I love how she can push Ferro’s buttons! AND of course we can’t forget the cliff-hanger! I never thought that would happen in a million years! I can’t wait to find out what happens next! Also, one thing I love about this series is the way it’s written! It’s very descriptive and gives lots of impact! Holly is such an inspiration! Everyone must read the series! You’ll be a fool not too!
I was one of the lucky people who received an ARC of this book for an honest review. Let me tell you, this book will shock you for sure. You will find out the connection between Sean and Black and find out that everything is not as it seems. I had so many moments of "I didn't see that coming!". Another intense cliffhanger, so jump on and enjoy the ride. I can't wait to see what is in store for Sean and Avery in the next book! This is definitely another 5 star book!
As much as I love this series I will never start another series by this author as I'm so pissed off that we're at 14! Seriously? I don't think you realise how much this is ultimately hurting you in the long run.
With a sad heart..... Let me start off by stating I had to fight my inner demons on giving this "installment" a full on 4 stars. This is the first book in the entire series I felt this way over. Since I am a faithful Sean and Avery follower and LOVE this series.
Let me get my inner demon problems out of the way first: 1.It felt shorter then the other books. While technically I went back and checked into this and it seems to be average with the other books in this series, I just couldn't get past the tug of it's "where the hell is the rest of my book" type feeling. So since I honestly know it's the same "averaged" length I can't hold it for a bad rating. It's just my personal opinion. 2. I felt like we pretty much started in the same place we ended.
Now on to the good stuff: I still enjoyed the book and finished it at one setting since I didn't want to put it down. I think that majorly lied upon hoping to find out everything that is going on and who the shooter is from the last few books.
I felt like this book was packed with more action then some of the other books. It still had the equal amount of emotional roller coaster as we have all came to expect in the Sean and Avery world. And of course the drama is still there.
In these installment we start off with the Avery in "box" scenario that we were left with in AR13. And Sean and Black trying to make terms in the dorm room. Avery is given some useful advise from Gabe. Will she listen? She is kind of confused with what he tells her, so she needs to peice it together better for her to fully understand what he means by this information. Since Gabe hasn't steared her wrong in the past she knows he is telling the truth. From there we have the normal Sean and Avery drama, mixed in with an oh so sexy Trystan Scott! We find out the Mel is still holed up in the bar with Trystan (her dreamer boy!)After talking to Mel, Avery is trying to piece together things about the murder that occured a couple installments ago. I can't go into detail here as I don't want to reveal to much of what she learns from Black. This part is very interesting though. I will leave it at that. Both Black and Sean give Avery an offer. She is having problems trying to decide what to do. The book centers around these questions. She enlists the help of Mel and Marty but both have different outlooks and opinions. She needs to do some searching from within to give her the answer she is needing. (This installment we don't learn her answer) Sean, Black and Gabe all seem to be working together in some form to figure out who this mystery shooter/killer is. Every plan they have seems to fall through and something happens, or Avery doesn't cooperate. (I am starting to get sick of Averys you can't tell me what to do attitude! You would think she would be more thankful to people who are trying to keep her safe and figure out who is doing this. But is she? Nope)
So after my inner demons I loved this book. I just wish their were a faster story line like at the start of the series. I feel like it's starting to lose some of it's momentum. Which in turn makes me VERY sad. I say this because I feel like people might think they are wasting money when they aren't really learning much. With that being said, if the momentum and story line picked up I could see this series making it several more books.
I leave you with this shocker: By the end of the book there will be TWO dead bodies. Who are they? Read it to get your answer to that and what TWO offers Avery faces.
I couldn't be more confused.I am also becoming mental just keeping up with all this drama. However,I am addicted so I guess that makes me another crazed H M Ward fan.
ARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review.
After reading The Arrangement 13 I was finding myself wanting to pull away from this series a bit. But the 14th installment sucked me right back in, and with a vengeance!
We were left stunned at the end of 13 – Sean was exposed in a way that left me with my jaw dropped and my fist clenched, but there was redemption on the horizon. Sean is one of those heroes you love to make excuses for. He has a good side buried beneath all the bad and although you don’t always get to see it; you know it’s there and you know with all your heart that only Avery is going to be able to pull it out of him.
We are not any closer to figuring out who is behind the threats to Avery. If it’s related to Sean or Miss Black. But we are given a revelation that will make your head spin. Part of me still keeps coming back to one name, but as more pieces get revealed I am not sure if the connection is as strong as it once was.
What we were lacking with the 13th installment, we get (in a tiny dose) in this one. We also get the return of Marty to the picture and for the first time since he came clean about his feelings towards Avery, I found him far more endearing than I expected. He shares a moment with Avery that just made my heart feel good.
Avery & Sean are no closer to their HEA, but you see for the first time the damage that could be done if Avery were to walk away. Sean’s vulnerability is showcased in a way that it had not been prior and it breaks your heart to know that what remains of this broken man can so easily be turned to dust if he were to lose her.
I did find that Avery became a bit annoying, sure she has had her moments before, but there was just something about her lack of decision and the thought process that she undergoes that made me want to reach into the book and slap the crap out of her.
I think we can all agree that she is the worst hooker ever. She’s slept with one client, although she appears to be the most sought after client of Miss Black (which I just don’t get...) and she certainly no longer wants be at her mercy, but she won’t take the out she has by allowing Sean to pay her debts.
So she can allow one woman who has a clear desire to bring her down, control her and force her to take on clients (or in this case a whole new kind of job) or she can allow the man she loves, who has been paying for her all along (without her complaining) to pay for her getting out from under Miss Black’s thumb. I don’t quite understand how her thought process would lead her to want to marry the man, while in turn she would have access to the lifestyle of a Ferro, but not take his help now?!?! The fact that she even considers the option given to her baffles me and makes me want to throttle her.
As for Miss Black and the head spinning revelation... I am not sure why, but I always pictured her looking like Anjelica Huston.
I think that made it a bit more of a shock than it would have, if I would have pictured her differently. But this addition to the story throws so much more at you, that the whole guessing game as to who is pulling the strings just gets far more complicated.
I am very pleased that this installment was able to pull me back in after the last installment was easily pushing me towards just waiting for the series to wrap up before going back to it. H.M. Ward has a knack for being able to do these serials and although I do love her full length novels – her installment series are done in a way that leaves you completely addicted.
Ooooh so good. Lot's of happenings in this book but that means more questions we have to wait to have answered. I am not left with feelings of anger towards Sean like some people . . . I feel like he should do more communicating with Avery if he is going to push her into situations where he is not with her to explain. She was thrown out there with no clue of what was going on and Sean could have easily prepared her, even if she didn't know the exact situation she would be put in, she would have had more faith in him and in their relationship when things were thrown at her. Instead she was left blind and had no clue what was going on but it is very clear Sean was in on it and should have warned her so she wasn't so dumb founded by it all. I know that Sean is doing his best to protect her and the whole threat situation is terrifying to him, so I still love him. I don't think that Avery will leave him, she needs to get her thoughts together but she hasn't had time yet because as soon as she has time to take a breath, something else blows up. I do NOT like Miss Black and I never have, I REALLY don't like knowing her past with Sean now because even though everyone says she will keep Avery safe, I think she would do anything to get her out of the way with Sean and that is why she made her that offer. Especially if you go back to what she said to Avery in the beginning about her regrets and choices that made her lose the man she loved . . . I don't think she wants Avery dead because she is her cash cow, but I think she offered Avery the position she did, to infuriate Sean and cause friction to maybe make them break up. I can't WAIT for 15! I love H.M. Wards writing and have enjoyed every one of her books!
Oh Holly, Holly, Holly. You are the master at tearing me apart, putting me back together, and then doing it over and over in every installment. I'm so invested in Sean & Avery's relationship that every forward motion makes me cheer, while every step backwards leaves me alternating between wanting to scream, cry, slap Avery silly and beat Sean with a shoe (and not in the kinky way he'd enjoy!)
Arrangement 14 answers so many questions, and gives an "Oh SNAP! I knew it!" moment while you're reading. This installment goes a long way towards showing the man Sean used to be and the one he thinks he no longer can be, as well as the man he thinks he's become. Unfortunately, we also see Avery's insecurities more clearly in this one, which left me wanting to both hug her, and slap the f*ck out of her for being so stupid. I won't say anymore, because I definitely don't want to spoil.
I enjoy the interactions between Avery and Trystan, and even Avery and Jon, but I also like the antagonistic relationship Sean has with Trystan. This installment was extremely busy, and had so many side stories going on within that it was at times a little hard to switch back and forth - not in a bad way, I was just so caught up in everything that was going on, I didn't want to move on to the next set of events.
As always, Holly leaves us with a cliffhanger leaving us to wonder where is this story going next. After the last 2-3 arrangement serials, I'm worried for Sean & Avery's HEA and hoping that we'll still get there in the end. Everything seems so stacked against them right now, and Avery has some huge, life-changing decisions to make. Their relationship hangs in the balance, its outcome based on the decisions she will make and the direction she'll choose for her life to go.
Ward takes us on yet another ride through the valley of emotion!!!
This installment has me reeling a bit. I love Sean Ferro, the good, the bad, and the crazy! He needs to come to grips with things that have happened in his life. Learning to accept failure, learning to apologize, and learning to be emotionally giving will be healing for him at some point. His love for Avery seems to cloud his judgement a bit, but at the same time it's what keeps him focused and sane.
Avery is one bad ass chick! My respect for her increased ten fold! She is so much stronger than she's given credit for. This girl has been presented with death multiple times, had her life threatened over and over by several people, been knocked down so many times and every single time gets up and brushes herself off. She's learned to flip up her middle finger to those who don't accept her for who she is, and she owns every move she makes!! She is presented with an interesting proposition but has to figure out what kind of life she wants to have. Both options have their drawbacks.
Sean lays out truths that are surprising, but make sense. Others will blow your mind! Avery and Mel have a discussion that bring new points to life. Some old friends join us again, and certain revelations seem like giant clues in this whole crazy mystery!
This is an amazing read that will leave you spellbound! Is it to early for wine??????
Okay so I am really disappointed, this book just took a crazy turnover and it's getting on my nerves... Is Avery really dumb or something? There is no way Sean would be engaged and she would not know, have she ever heard of Google before? I'm sure she would have known about this whole thing that he was already engaged if this was real life.. And why the fuck she is always owing money to Mrs Black, yeah she paid the hospital bill, and that can be expensive but she didn't get anything major done, and how did she already spent all the money that she got... Besides the only thing she spent money on was a couple of slutty dresses and a few lingerie... It sounded like she was getting paid tones of money when she accepted to be a hooker and now sounds like she is doing it for free... Being a madam or a hooker is not the only solution for her.. And makes me wonder of Avery's moral.. I can't even think of Marty, like WTF! There is no way a guy would just be there waiting for you to be a hooker and would just love you no matter what, unless he is fucking ugly there is no realistic explanation for that.. He needs to move on and get over her... Even with all that I am still looking forward for the next book and very curious to know how things are going to end... If this series ever end
