Julien's Book

Rate this book
Julien Breaux was completely focused on developing his career as a MMA fighter and kickboxing coach. Shea Miller was an author and new student in his class. She found Julien intriguing and wanted to use him as inspiration for a character in her new book. Seeing no harm in it, Julien happily agreed to serve as her muse.

Shea eventually wrote the book and it became something of a hit in the world of romance novels. Though he had a taste of notoriety, Julien's life seemed to grind along just as it had before he met Shea.

Then everything changed.

Without warning, Julien was thrust into an extraordinary chain of events—a world where it was hard to separate reality from fiction. One minute he was in total control of his life and the next he felt like a puppet in an elaborate play that had sealed his fate.

Had he really just found the love of his life? And if so, would he need to believe what seemed like the impossible in order to have her?

I received an ARC from the author for my honest review.

Let me start off by saying that I was nervous and a little skeptical to read this one as the author noted that it was different from her other books but I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved this one. So don't worry it is still a new adult love story with all the bells and whistles we love.

I feel like lately the books I have been reading all have the same story so getting to read this one that had such a new creative concept I was having a hard time not rushing the story because for once I didn't quite see where this was going.

Julien is a training to become the next greatest MMA fighter (so yeah hot, muscular and over course protective!!) when he catches the eye of an author who is captivated by his appearance featuring his unique birthmark he is all up for being her next muse. What he didn't expect was for an onslaught of girls coming to the gym pretending to his true love, Nadine. After a while the guys at the gym made a game out of every girl coming in claiming their name was Nadine and would come up with some reason for the girl to show ID proving the lie. Once the girls figured out they would eventually have to give their real names they would never come back.

Like with anything hype eventually died down at the gym and he was back to training his regulars until another Nadine shows up taking the charade a little too far, not matter what he did he couldn't get her to break character and admit she lied.

I really don't want to go into any more details about the story because I feel like each reader should get the pleasure of experiencing it unfold for themselves. Such a great concept from the author and I am not so secretly hoping this becomes a series!!

I read a lot of books in the romance genre, but this book was very different from other books that I've read. Sure, it has an incredibly hot guy and a beautiful girl, but the way their "story" comes together is quite unique.
Julien Breaux is a man that most women would find intriguing. He's a fighter(MMA), he's gorgeous, he wears his hair in a short mohawk(which exposes a birthmark on his head), and the list could go on and on. He is approached one day by an author who goes to the gym where he works. She wants to use him as her muse for the new romance novel that she's writing. Julien is very flattered and accepts her offer. She uses him as her cover model and loosely bases the main character after him.
When the novel is released, it causes a lot of buzz around the gym. Girls are coming out of the woodwork pretending to be Nadine, the female lead in the novel.
When yet another woman with the name Nadine joins the gym, Julien automatically thinks that she is lying about her identity. She has the same physical features, the same French accent, and the same job as the fictional character in the novel. Julien is suspicious, but when he finally believes that she is being honest...he lets himself fall for her.
Things start to get strange for the new couple when real life starts mimicking the storyline in the book. I won't say anything more, you'll have to read it yourself to find out.

I would like to thank the author for the copy of her book.

Casey Mcmillin does it again! I am a huge fan of Casey ' s and her In Too Deep series. Her new standalone book knocked my socks off again. Shea, a writer and gym goer, spots Julien the fighter/coach with a birthmark of beauty. Shea decides to use him as a main character in her new romance novel. Who happens to fall in love with a French woman named Nadine. After the book is released Julien begins having trouble fighting away all the fake 'Nadine's' but what happens when he finds out the latest one isn't faking...did Shea's novel look into the future...will it end the same dramatic way Shea wrote it? or will Julien come out fighting for Nadine?

I give it 5 stars. I would recommend it to anyone that has a soft spot for love stories, action, & the twists of fate.

This is more like a 3.5 star rating for me. Loved Julien and Nadine! They were a great couple! Finally Julien realizes that not everyone is just chasing after him because he is a "hot" fictional character in a book. Nadine was a smart and vulnerable character living in a foreign land. While Julien, in the beginning an ass, realizes that Nadine was just not another girl just cashing in with the "Nadine" character while promising to hook the prize winning fighter that depicts some "hot" commodity. This was my first Casey McMillin read, and I look forward to another. This particular novel, however, delivers an intriguing and sweet romance that was mesmerizing....

I really loved this book because it was different. I had never read a story line like this before and I really enjoyed going on this adventure with Julien and Nadine. Plus, I love anything by Casey McMillin in general, so it made it even better :)

Disclaimer: I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Julien Breaux is working hard as a MMA fighter and coach at his gym. One day, a writer approaches him with a question that will change his life. She asks him if she can write a romance novel with a main character based on him. He accepts, not anticipating the success of the book and all the attention it will bring him. Despite this fact, Julien remains humble and doesn't change, feeling like all the attention should be focused on the book and not him. After all the girls that have shown up at the gym where he works asking for him (or his fictional character), and saying they were his Nadine (his love interest in the book), it's not a surprise when another one shows up and this time she doesn't ask for him, but it's not only her name that matches the Nadine from the book. Weird things start happening, and it seems like the story from the book is happening in real life. How will Julien deal with it? Nadine hasn't read the book, will he tell her everything that happened? Why is this happening? These and many other questions were in my head while I was reading this book. I kept thinking that somewhere in the book there was going to be an explanation how that could be happening, especially in the beginning.

When I read the blurb I was curious about this book and I was surprised because I usually prefer stories that can happen in real life and that don't have that magic, unexplainable, mysterious element. That being said, this book kept me turning pages and I really liked the main characters, especially Julien – he was so sweet! I felt like because the book existed, their relationship developed very quickly and I would have liked to be able to read more about them getting to know one another.

It's a quick, interesting, sweet read.

When author Shea Miller meets Julien Breaux, who is the trainer and MMA fighter at her new gym there is something about him. She is intrigued by his looks he has an unusual birthmark on his head and has a Mohawk and uses him as her muse for her next romance story b0ok.

Julien is more that happy with the book, until fiction starts to turn into real life. When a girl called Nadine, who shares the same name as his love interest in the book, walks into his Gym. Julien thinks she is just another crazy fan pretending to be Nadine, but as he gets to know her more maybe, he starts to think that she could be the real Nadine.

“He felt a connection with her in a way he didn’t even understand. And could he trust she was telling the truth”

I found it the story interesting. It was an easy read, and I like the notion behind the book and the characters. I love my fighters, so Julien was a hit with me. I liked Julien and Nadine they were sweet together as they try to make sense of what was happening between them.

“The words she wrote in her little book are coming true in from of our eyes”

I liked that it very different from what I have read before, and from Casey normal style of writing, I was interested to see how it was all going to pan out. Knowing Casey as I do, I found many parts that made me think of her. There was certainly a feeling that this one was more personal, and things from own her life had been incorporated into the story, and I liked that.

Overall I enjoyed Julien’ s book, it was a sweet interesting read.

This story is about a MMA fighter named Julien and a French girl named Nadine, and the book that changed their lives.

In the beginning of the book an author, Shea Miller meets a handsome fighter at the gym she goes to. She finds Julien to be very interesting, with his Mohawk, and the birth mark on his head fascinating, she can't help the need to write a romance novel with him as one of the main characters.

Julien doesn't think much of being in this book until after the book is released and becomes very popular. With the main female love interest named Nadine, he starts to get a lot of women coming in to the gym he works at, claiming to be Nadine. It becomes a common occurrence, so everyone at the gym requests that these women show ID to expose them, before they can take a class. He is so tired of it that when a real French girl named Nadine comes in, and shows correct ID, he still doesn't believe her. After, some investigating he finds out she is the real Nadine and all the similarities to the book are shocking to say the least. What will they do when they find out their future has been somewhat told by a book, and will they be able to handle it?

This book was very different from anything I have ever read, but I really liked it. It was very interesting and sweet. I really like Juliens character. He's beautiful for starters, but also very caring and strong. Of course, I always love my fighters. This book was a totally new take on romance, and I wasn't sure at first, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Stars: 4

Overall: So I want to start out by thanking the author for giving me a chance to read and review this book. Now back to our scheduled review: The story starts out with a writer finding her main man character at a gym because she loved his birthmark. She than asks him if she can use him in her book and he agrees and they go on a dinner date meeting, where she tells him that she is going to use is likeness but the personality will be totally different. She gets threw with the book and doesn't expect it to become as big as it does and admits in a interview that who the male is and gives a few details about him away. That starts the "Nadine" chase after Julien, but our man here takes it in stride and after a while things seem to calm down for him. He ends up meeting a real Nadine and at first he seems reluctant to talk and get to know her. Than things start happening the way they did in the book and he starts to have his mind BLOWN. lol You'll have to read the rest of the book to get the whole story, but i promise that it's well worth it. Thanks again to the author and i can't wait to read more book by her.

Characters: Julien & Nadine

Normally I would "recap" the book at the beginning of my review but since this book has a good synopsis already in place, so I will skip that and jump right into my thoughts.

I really wanted to like this book and had really high hopes. While I give it points for originality, it is very different, I am sad to say I was very disappointed. I really like this author and have read other books of hers but this one just felt like something was missing throughout. I never really connected with the characters and because of the story elements, you know what is going to happen to everyone pretty much right from the beginning.

My thoughts:

Quick hook or slow starter? 3 (Sadly this one never really hooked me)
Character development: 3
Level of Romance between characters: 3
Passion/Heat level: 3 (not really a sexy story.)
Angst/Heartbreak: 3 (there is some stuff, but you know it's coming so it's not really angsty)
Cliffhanger?: No, this is a standalone one story.

Overall, this one just wasn't for me. I got it when it was free on Amazon and it was at least entertaining for a freebie.

Would have given 5 stars but started out kind of slow

Julien is a training to become a professional MMA fighter (so yeah hot, Alpha Male!!) when he catches the eye of an author who is captivated by his appearance featuring his unique birthmark he is all up for being her next muse. Well written and edited. This is a stand-alone with no cliffhangers. Right now, it's not intended to be part of a series, which is kind of sad because I could definitely see more books written about the cast of characters at the gym.

This was an original premise that is very well executed. We sort of know what's going to happen -- it's described in early chapters, but it's so unbelievable that the suspense remains high until the very end. The romance is sweet, the friends are funny and supportive, the families are quirky.

The heat between the two characters builds slowly. There is an abbreviated sex scene, and the book really could have benefited from stronger development of all of the romantic scenes, but for a PG-13 book, it has so many other things going for it that the charm of the fantasy carried the day for me.

Strongly recommend for MMA romance fans.

I loved the idea of this book. It's definitely something different and a nice twist on your everyday romance.
I find that, while it was a cute story-I didn't get sucked in like I normally do. I'm not sure if it's because I read it over several days as opposed to within a day like I do with a lot of books. It was more the writing style that I didn't really like and it was like some things just didn't make a lot of sense. Ex. One day they can't stand each other and the next day he's like oh she's so beautiful and she's all ooh he's so hot. I found It just didn't flow well.

Overall It's a cute light story with a unique plot but I didn't LOVE it.

The author provided a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This was an unusual book, written at times in the third person, which took me a while to get used to. Julien is a MMA fighter and trainer working at a fight gym. One of his clients is a writer and uses him as her muse for her next book. With his permission, she uses his image for the cover, his occupation and lots of things about him for her romance novel. This makes him very popular and somewhat stalked at the gym at times by woman wanting to get to know the real Julien. Nadine is his love interest in the book. One day a Nadine strolls into the gym.......

I found the book slow to start but it did pick up pace about 25% in and I found it an enjoyable read. The story was unusual and refreshingly unique.

Very interesting way to start a book. Shea wrote a love story about an MMA fighter/coach and a French woman teaching at a local school. The book becomes a sensation and everybody knows the story. Women come in droves to the gym to meet Julien and pretend to be Nadine, but one stands out and she isn't lying. When the story begins to play out like the book Julien assumes Shea has some mystical power writing his future or something because his love interest is exactly how she was written. The story started off a little odd but after a few chapters I was intrigued. Although I have all of Ms. McMillin's books this is the first I've read and plan to read the others shortly.

I was really hoping to like this book. I love fighters and MMA and was excited to read more about it. And the blurb seemed intriguing. But alas, it was not to be. The writing was terrible. Trite and uninspired. I was honestly ready to stop reading after the first page because it was evident that the writing was bad right away. And I try not to waste my free reading time on something I see is bad right away, but I made myself finish the book because it's for a read it review for the author. And I'm sorry, but I couldn't do more than skim after that. Good premise. Terrible execution.

I'm actually a little torn about this book because i really liked the concept but it could be so much better... a book that's coming true; it's really intriguing if made right!

I've already mentioned it like a hundred times, but i'm not a fun of 3rd person POV writing. My personal opinion is that this kind of writing takes a lot of the emotion out and leaves you unable to connect with the characters. That's exactly what happened to me with "Julien's book". I could not feel the connection between Julien and Nadine though it's there on writing.

It's worth giving it a shot though so i do recommend it!

Received in exchange for a review.

Cute enough story.

I did like the idea of the story but the whole similarities between the characters in the book and the real Julien and Nadine was a bit unbelievable and tiresome in the end. The plot otherwise was decent.

Julien and his paranoia in the end started to get annoying. I'm pretty sure if what went down at Nadine's birthday party happened in real life the results wouldn't have been the same.

The romance moved along at a decent pace. At least they weren't jumping each other's bones right away.

This book was very tough to read. very slow moving, did not engage me as a reader at all and I believe the 3rd person narrative was part of the reason. It was not written well in my opinion. There were many random transitions between scenes, hoping from place to place. You know when there are books that as you read, it FEELS real...this was the complete opposite. This felt shallow and unemotional. As a reader, I like to feel engaged in the story and for it to draw me in. I almost did not finish this and I had to force myself to read it to the end.

***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.***

This was a fairly quick read for me. I really liked the concept of this story, but overall it fell a little flat for me. I didn't like the third person point-of-view. I also felt that there were a lot of characters involved that were brought in, but had little development. I was trying to keep all of Julien's gym buddies straight in my head, without a lot to go on to distinguish them. Overall it was just ok for me.

I received an arc from the author and so here is my review. I liked the book. It had a good story line and I would like to see what else transpires in Julian and Nadine's lives. However it took a while for me to get into the story with the way it was told. I do love the author though so I kept reading and it eventually sucked me in. Over all good book.

I really liked the concept of the storyline. Could you imagine being an inspiration for an author and then everything she wrote about you actually came true in your real life? That would be freaky. My only problem was the writing style. I like when books are in 1st person. This book had multiple pov's all mixed together. I have trouble connecting with characters that way.

Love it! Julien and Nadine's love story was inspiring with a hint of scary (lol). He would follow her anywhere. My only fault was it was hard to follow who was talking. It switched a lot from julien to Nadine to Shea. But it was still very good.
