R.M Garcia takes us for a paranormal ride once again in the second book of The Foundlings Series. The Beast Within takes places a few months after victory against the Reich. We see Donnie in a different light so full of anger and frustration but of course that is to be expected after losing the love of his life. But as things begin to get crazy once again, him and his friends are taken to a place that Donnie never would have thought he would return to.

I like how we finally got to meet Donnie's estranged family from his mother's side. Though at first I personally thinking to myself that I hope he doesn't just simply forgive and forget. But when Donnie's cousin Mel shows up he starts to realize there a lot more to his mother's family than he realized…I have to admit though I never saw that coming, Donnie's family secret I mean, to find out what I mean you will just have to read the book.

I loved how the action started straight at the beginning but there were parts that were confusing, as it would change from one scene straight to the next, such as one characters thought to another's without transition, I also felt that there were some unnecessary parts that would just lose my interest but sparked back up eventually. It was more of a rollercoaster for me with ups and downs. However, the story plot is creative and brings about different paranormal aspects that R.M Garcia weaves together nicely. But I do want to stress that if you have problems without smooth transitions you might have trouble reading this. And just like any good series, make sure you start with the first book before you make your way to the second.

3.5/5 Bats, I rounded up here since there is no option to do 3.5

The Beasts within by RM Garcia (The Foundlings #2)

Donnie is back in the second installment of The Foundlings series. He is still grief-stricken at his loss and not quite himself. He is bitter, sad, angry and just not the same person he once used to be.

When his cousin is mortally wounded he finds himself going back home. Home to a place he never thought (or wanted) to go back to. His childhood home is on the Indian reservation in Tennessee.

Once there he gets to learn more of his parents and what happened to them. He is reunited with some of his family members. He is faced with battling new enemies known as the Defilers. He is aided by some new friends The Liquidators, and Blood Angles. He is also reunited with his childhood friends Misha and Cee Cee. As he battles the fight for good, he is learning more (about) his friends, family, and his Native American Heritage. Some of what he finds is shocking. Will the Old Donnie resurface? Will he be able to pull himself out of this slump? And will he be able to put an end to the evil that is trying to destroy all that is good.

Action packed vampire fantasy, with Native American legends. A great follow up to the first book, The foundlings. I really enjoy the writing style of RM Garcia, he turns a fantastic nail biting, page turning, vampire story into an original masterpiece with the addition of Native Americans. I find this (book) unique and really enjoy the originality. I look forward to more work By R.M. Garcia and highly I recommend to vampire/fantasy lovers.

This is a writer who keeps getting better with each book he writes.

The action, twists and turns that marked his first book are in evidence once again with double the intensity.

I'm not one for spoilers so I will limit this review to this:

Characters 9/10
Plot 9/10
Action 10/10

If you haven't read The Foundlings, read it first and then hurry to pick up this one.

I will definitely read the next book in this exciting series.

Although I didn't read the first book I did enjoy this one. Donnie is a bitter young man and with good reason as he fights the defilers. Other groups and friend help him as the native american legends come true. A lot of vampire books are out there, but this one is action packed and worth the read.
