Contains Spoilers!!
Cadence has closed her self off from everyone after her ex-partner, also her lover and mentor, shot her, betrayed her and left her for dead! Swearing her revenge she has left the NSA and joined Team Thirteen. She keeps everyone at bay and her emotions looked down except for when she's with Bambi. He has a way of making her feel human. She doesn't like it. It scares her. But she can't help her self. Slightly appalled that he is younger than her, she uses every excuse she can throw at him to get him to back off. Sex is sex. No feelings involved. She knows he has started to get more involved emotionally and she should end it now but she can't because she knows he is the one that can break through her walls and make her human again. Not to mention he is relentless in his pursuit of her!
When the opportunity arises to get her revenge on her once everything Cadence must decide if chasing her nightmare's is worth giving up Dylan. Even though he is hell bent on helping her she knows letting him travel this road with her will end up getting him killed. That's the last thing she wants! She must decide between confronting Jack, the man that left her for dead, or seeking the first bit of true happiness she's had in a long darkness with Dylan, the man she is falling in love with! Can she make the right choice from a wrong situation?

First off I have read this book as a stand alone and not part of the series. So while I appreciate that there is more to the bigger picture than what is shown in this book, it just wasn't for me. Sorry! I didn't like the style of writing and for me found the story quite rushed and I didn't connect with the characters. Cadence was a strong female lead but she frustrated me to no end! She had a good job which she loved (and could have used to help her mission instead of insisting she go it alone), friends that cared about her, a promising start to something with Dylan and so much more yet she constantly took the hard road knowing it was the wrong decision and threw what she had with Dylan away with no thought, like it was nothing. Dylan for me was like a puppy dog. Cadence drugged him, insulted him, left him chained up twice and treated him like crap through most of it and he still followed her around like a lost puppy??? I prefer more of an aplha male lead so this is just my opinion but apart from that he was strong lead and I did like his character.
Sorry but all I can say is this just wasn't for me!

What happened to a person’s soul who suffers a horrible experience’ - an experience they were lucky to live through? Cadence Long was shot and left to die by her partner five years earlier. She has become an expert at keeping herself separated from everyone, even that of her team. Dylan Urban was part of the Seal Team that rescued her. He is now fighting for more than her freedom.

Dying Commitment is a fast paced story, filled with twists and turns across the globe. Cadence is a strong alpha female who does not believe she needs anyone or anything, other than revenge against her old partner. I enjoyed watching her open herself up to Dylan and start to believe in her own future. Dylan has the patience of a saint and the tenacity of a bull-dog.

Dying Commitment is book 3 in the Lucky Thirteen series. While it can be read as a stand-alone, it would be more fully enjoyed after reading the first two books in the series. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. I am dying to know what happens to Jack Allen!!

Revenge that is what she has thought about since her ex-partner, ex-lover shot her, now she is on a mission find him and kill him. He loves her and now he is partnered with her if only she could trust him instead of cuffing him to a bed.

When I started reading the Lucky Thirteen Series I have to say I was hooked. Now this is the third installment and it’s still going strong. The action, the suspense, the romance is all still there going strong. I have to say that this was a thrill seeking read that had me turning the pages and I couldn’t stop. I really didn’t want for the story to stop where it did because there are so many unanswered questions and now I have to wait until 2015 to see what happens, great. I was really hoping to read about one of the members wedding but didn’t happen then there was the sad going away party for Chris Hardy. He is a character that I loved since the beginning and it was sad reading about him leaving. I do have to say there were little hiccups in the story but believe me they were overlooked because it did not take me away from the storyline. It was a captivating read that will be staying in my library for future reading. Now let’s get to the good stuff so you can make sure that you pick up this amazing read.

Candace “Cady” Long former NSA Agent now with the Lucky Thirteen has a mission and will not let anything or anyone get in her way. I love how strong and courageous she is but she didn’t trust anyone. I don’t like seeing her so closed off and that she doesn’t see that Lucky Thirteen is there for her, they are like a family. If she needs help she should be able to ask for help, they wouldn’t deny it to her, especially Dylan. I know that her story is not very good but come on 5 years have passed already but then again how are you going to forget that the man you loved shot you and could have killed you. But now she was with Dylan and they had been together from the moment that Lucky Thirteen rescued her but she made sure that she would never stay in his bed. Before the sun rose she was out of there. There was no way that she was going to trust someone else with her heart she had done that already and look at what happened.

Dylan “Bambi” Urban is a Navy SEAL with Lucky Thirteen and is in love with Cady. He is a strong, loving, caring hottie that has a golden heart. I love how he was with Cady but didn’t appreciate how she treated him. He was a sweetheart and he wanted to love her. Dylan was a man that wanted to talk about his feeling but she would shut him down but now he had the upper hand at least that’s what I thought. He was going to be sticking to her when she went on her mission but first he needed to say goodbye to Chris Hardy. I loved how he thought because if his mind didn’t work that way he would have been left behind. Without Cady knowing he had put a tracking device on her and he was able to meet up with her at the airport but it would also come in handy when their cruise came to an end because she ended up leaving him in bed, handcuffed, and believe me that was not the only time. He doesn’t learn.

The chemistry between these two characters was hot, will maybe just not hot but scorching hot. I love that when they are together it’s like this energy surrounds them. The fact that she is older than him doesn’t even waiver for me. What’s the difference when a man is much older with a much younger woman, it’s just numbers. Just as long as the man and woman are adults I really don’t care. Now as for the meaningless sex it was just wrong. There has to be some type of feeling there but she knew how to hide it but not good enough. No matter what he was going to wait for her because he knew that she had feelings for him.

Dying Commitment was an exceptional read for me. I love Ms. Butler’s writing style and just love this genre. This story had so many twists and turns that it drove me nuts, but in a good way. It was fast paced and a true page turner. I can’t wait for the next book in 2015, time needs to fly.

My Star Rating for this is: 4 out of 5! :)

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘DYING COMMITMENT' by Author S.M. BUTLER (via: Booksmoviesfandoms.wordpress.com):

I have been reading and reviewing ARC early-copies of The Lucky Thirteen Series novels’ and I have to say, each story is great and entertaining. This review is for the third novel of the series titled “Dying Commitment” and it follows the story of Former NSA Agent Cadence Long and Navy SEAL Dylan Urban. The story is written from both of their P.O.V.’s(point of views).

The former NSA Agent Cadence Long had a young promising career in the NSA, up until she was betrayed by a person she thought she could trust. Now, years later she is working with SEAL Team Thirteen as their tech-savvy go-to person and comes in handy to the team. Unfortunately, she has vengeance on her mind and she is determined to get the man that left her for dead. She now prefers to trust no one and pushes sexy SEAL member Urban’s advances away every chance she can but it becomes hard to do sometimes.

The fun, outgoing and flirtatious Navy SEAL Dylan Urban, is one of the youngest of the team and he has his eyes on Cadence Long. Ever since SEAL Team Thirteen rescued her and they both shared a passionate-steamy night together, he wants her still. He must always do his mission and put duty first but he has a sense of loyalty to Cadence, even if she is set to do everything and anything to hunt her shooter down. Urban is put on a mission to escort Cadence to track down the man who betrayed her and left her to die, who also happens to be working for the Giroux family.

Cadence Long and Dylan Urban share a strong attraction but Cadence’s hunger for revenge constantly takes precedence to her. How far will Cadence go, to find her revenge on the man who betrayed her? Will Urban break past Cadence’s wall of revenge or will it be too much for him? This exciting story takes us on a journey with one of the hot SEAL men of the Lucky Thirteen team as we go on a mission of suspense, action and romance. I do recommend this wonderful book and the entire series. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t yet! I’m truly ready to see what’s to come next in this appealing series.

ARC kindly provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Dying Commitment had a good plot but it just didn't work out for me. It is part of a series but I read it as a standalone. There were references to things that happened in previous books but I didn't have the feeling that I was really missing anything, which is quite an accomplishment on the author's part. I've read quite a few books that were "standalones" in a series in which I felt like I had to read the previous books in order to have some idea of what was going on.

I didn't connect with the characters and found myself not really caring what happened to them. Let former NSA agent Cadence and former SEAL Dylan tell it, they were good agents. However, their actions didn't make them out to be very capable. They were constantly bested by the bad guys, even lowly shop owners with no skills. It really turned me off to the story to see special agents failing constantly and miserably.

Another big plot to the story concerns Cadence's laptop. Her specialty is computers/tech, so she has a laptop with some sensitive information on it that she's got encrypted. What I didn't understand was why she brought it with her on a personal mission. Her goal was to kill the guy that almost killed her. Why bring along an item that the guy would find highly valuable? It served no purpose for this mission. If she needed a computer to track him, bring a personal computer. And if I'm mistaken and it was a personal computer, I would say that you shouldn't put confidential files that could get someone killed on a personal computer.

There was a fair amount of action, which I enjoyed, but my lack of a connection with the characters left me wanting more.

S. M. Butler is a newer fresh voice in military romance. Dying Commitment is book three in the Lucky Thirteen Series, which I have really enjoying. While Ms. Butler definitely has her own voice, this series reminds me of a cross between Marliss Melton and Katie Reus. This series has become one of my favorite. I was so excited when Dying Commitment became available. Sometimes when you are looking so forward to something there can be a bit of a letdown. Not with this book, it is a captivating read. The characters, Dylan and Cadence are ones introduced in the first books of the series, but it is in this book that they come alive and into their own.

Of course, Dylan and Cadence have great chemistry and there is intrigue and suspense in the plot. However, this novel goes deeper with the moral dilemmas that Cadence faces. The suspense of what Cadence will do when she finds her former traitor partner and should she risk trusting another partner in this case Dylan. Then there is Dylan, his part of the mission and his desire to take their relationship further. What should he do? This psychological drama is outstandingly written so that this book is a real page-turner. Also, I want to say I love seeing the events through Dylan’s and Cadence’s eyes. This dual POV is well done.

One last thought. Yes, Dylan and Cadence have supporting roles in the previous two books in the series, Killing Honor and Wounded Courage but it stands alone just fine.

Copy provided by NetGalley for an honest review. Be it known I would have bought this book; it is worth the cost if you like suspenseful, well-written military romance.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I wish I could rate this book higher than 3 stars, but I was slightly disappointed when reading it. I liked the plot of the book. Cadence (Cady) was shot by her ex partner/lover and left for dead. Five years later, she finds out where he is and decides to return the favor. The previous six months, Cady and Dylan (a Navy SEAL four years younger than she) have a no strings attached relationship, even though Dylan wants more. When Dylan finds out her plans, he wants to help Cadence, despite her efforts to exclude him. Her ex partner is in business with Alex, who is mentioned and hunted in the previous two books.

There are some things I liked about the book. Cady was a strong and independent woman. Sometimes I really dislike weak female characters. Dylan was devoted to helping Cast, which I really liked.

What I did not like about this book was how quickly everything happened at the end. I know the story line about Alex will continue in other books, but I thought the end to Cast and Dylan's relationship was really rushed. I felt like there needed to be an extra chapter or two. I also wished we learned more about each character's background. I had trouble connecting with them.

I would strongly suggest reading the previous two books in this series. I think the reader would be confused with the story line about Alex if reading this as a stand alone book. Despite the rating, I will be reading the next book.

Anyone who follows my reviews knows that I'm a military romance thriller FREAK and I do not go into great detail about the book because I want you to enjoy the ride yourself.

This is book 3 of the Lucky Thirteen Series and I have to say I loved it! Of course I loved the first two books also. If you haven't read them, I suggest you do, but its not a must to enjoy this book.

Cadence survived some horrific events at the hands of her ex partner. Now, she is out for revenge. Who can blame her????

Dylan has wanted her since the seal team rescued her, but Cadence doesn't have time for relationships, she is hell bent on one mission and one mission alone!

Lucky for us (not so much Dylan) the head of the seal team assigns Dylan to partner with Cadence on her mission....let the fun begin!!!!

I'm sure you can guess what Cadence thinks about this! We are taken on an awesome adventure full of Cadence ditching Dylan, Dylan being just a little bit smarter than Cadence gives him credit for, unexpected thrills, lots of twists and turns (some I expected, some I didn't). Moments I just wanted to scream at both of them, ok maybe at the author too!!!

I was given an ARC by NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review.

I was intrigued with a previous short story that I read from S.M. Butler. I like her writing style, but this book was lacking.

Dying Commitment by S.M. Butler is an intriguing book of sex and lies and commitment or lack there of.

Cadence used to be NSA till she had to be rescued by Lucky Thirteen (The Seals) 3 years prior. Just two years before that, she was shot in the chest by her ex-partner and left for dead. The Seals had offered her a lifeline, and a job, and she had taken it. She now does computer intel for Lucky Thirteen.

Dylan is a member of Lucky thirteen and is just 4 years younger than her. He wants more then the sex that is taking place, often, but he wants a commitment that Cadence cannot offer. He is willing to wait for her, but she wants to end things with her ex, in a more final way before moving on.

Cadence plans on killing her ex, after all he did leave her for dead. She must go over seas, find him and then kill him before he can get to her and set her up again.

This book was ok. The main characters were weak, especially when it came to fighting and being the Seals that they are trained to be. I felt that they could have been more the hero type, versus the ones to get smacked around.

I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.

Dying Commitment is the third book of the Lucky Thirteen series. While the series share characters and events from pervious books are brought up during this book, Dying Commitment is easily read as a stand alone.

Dylan and Cadence have been having a casual affair for several months; and while Cady hopes to keep it no strings attached, Dylan's feeling for her have grown. When Cady's ex-partner (that tried to kill her) surfaces, Cady and Dylan set out to track him down.

While some of the sex scenes with Cady and Dylan are steamy and their relationship can be conflicting at times, this book was just lacking something. The characters if this book were fabulous, the writing was done well, but there just wasn't enough action of drama for me. I really enjoyed the first book of the Lucky Thirteen series, but this one just feel a little short. When events were starting to take off throughout the story, I was expecting a big explosion of "drama" and/or action, instead it fell flat. If you're wanting a book that is an easy and sexy read, this book could fit that bill. However, if you're looking for a book that has a roller-coaster of emotion or has a bit suspense or action, this probably isn't the book for you.

Title: Dying Commitment

Series: Lucky Thirteen Book #3

Author: S.E Butler

Genre: Romance

Thoughts: I had read the first book in this series, so I thought I would snatch this one up. It's a good read, but not an exceptional one in this series. First off, I wasn't quite as connected with the characters as I would have liked. For the most part Cady does try to remain distant in order to avoid getting hurt (which is understandable given her past) - however, even within the 'private thoughts' of these characters you don't seem to get the full intensity of their feelings and/or emotions. It's not enough to say things within the confines of the story - I need to 'feel' it as well. And it just wasn't there with these characters. Another issue I had was the fact that this is an elite SEAL team, and Cady is constantly viewed as this major bad a&% - yet in almost every single instance they are getting the drop put on them (even by totally inexperienced shop keepers!) Really? Kind of disappointing. Come on, I don't expect them to always win, but not to be pathetic agents either.

Bottom line: An ok read, but not the best in this series.

I've been reading this series from the beginning and really liked the first two books, but I just thought this one was okay. I didn't really like Cady. She was too busy putting Dylan down for being younger than her and trying to help her with her mission. I'm sorry, but being only four years younger than someone does not mean you're robbing the cradle. And she kept running towards Jack and thinking or telling people how horrible and ruthless he was, wanting revenge, but then she talked herself and others into believing he was doing things for a good cause. I just think she was too undecided about her feelings for both Jack and Dylan. And I have no idea why Dylan kept putting up with her crap. Him, I actually liked for some odd reason. Watching someone self-destruct isn't fun and that's exactly what he was doing and even helping her. I'll probably read the next book through I'm not sure.

This was a real page turner. Cadence Long is a great character, she is strong and determined in her goals but she needs someone to care for her, she just doesn't realize it. Dylan Urban and Cady have been sleeping together, but their friends with benefits has gone a little further for him, he want's something a little more permanent. He is younger Cady but he seemed to be more mature at times.
Cady had a lot of trust issues after her mentor nearly killed her, she had to learn to trust Dylan as a partner and then with her heart. The issues that Cady had were very understandable and Dylan was a saint when he had to chase of after her.
I enjoyed this action, thriller, suspense, hot romance very much, it was a very exciting read, I couldn't put it down.
This was the #3 book in the Lucky Thirteen series, and there were plenty of additional characters for more books. I can't wait!

Five years ago Cadence Long, NSA agent, was shot by her lover/partner and left to die. Now she works for Lucky Thirteen and she wants revenge. Dylan Urban, SEAL and Lucky Thirteen member, and Cadence are having what has turned out to be a friends with benefits good time. Feelings are starting to creep in and that is the last thing Cadence wants or needs. When she finds her ex-partner, will she walk away from Dylan for the revenge she so desperately needs or will she trust him to help her?

Lucky Thirteen is an awesome series and this book is another great addition. Dylan has stolen my heart. He may be young but he knows what he wants. I'm looking forward to seeing where this couple ultimately ends up. Thank you SM Butler for another fantastic adventure with the members of Lucky Thirteen. Can't wait for the next one!

This is a love story slash get back at the former partner who shot me twice and left me for dead story. Candace Long, worked for the NSA as an agent and her former partner shot her twice five years ago and she had to be rescued by a Navy Seal Team. She got fired from NSA and then got hired by the Seals as the tech person to work with them to go after her former partner who is now working with a criminal organization. After three years she has finally tracked down her former partner and wants to go after him, but must take someone from the team with her. Just happens to be Dylan Urban, who they share more than a work space together, (bed). This story works the author brings everything together and it is a fast read. It is only 154 pages. A fast paced good story that is just fun. Good book. I got this book from net galley.

After being shot and left for dead by the one person she trusted most, Cadence has kept everyone at arms length and has sworn off men completely. No Emotional entanglements. However Dylan is getting under her skin and their no strings relationship is starting to become more for him. When she knows she needs to break it off, she just can't because maybe she isn't as emotionally closed off as she should be.

Dying commitment is the emotional and psychological struggle for her characters to over come so much and find out they can get over it and be happy with their lives and find someone to share their lives with. It was an interesting read and no I haven't read any of the other Thirteen novels, but it was a good.

Another great book in this series! I loved Dylan. And Cady's story was so good. Jack ruined her. I enjoyed the story line with Cady and Jack and how it all ties into the series story with their mission. I hope there is more to this series. There are still a couple members of the team we haven't gotten to know yet. I;m looking forward to more from this author.

This was a great third book!

I really loved this final book in the Lucky Thirteen group. All the loose ends were wrapped up and with Cadence and Dylan as a couple. Cary wants revenge for her betrayal by her former partner Jack who shot her, leaving her for dead. Along the way she doesn't want to have any commitments for fear of being hurt again. I hope that Suzan will write more in this series on the Lucky Thirteen team

The problem with writing in the 1st person is that it's really difficult. Surprisingly enough the difficulty is that its hard to make the character(s) engaging because they can be a little to stand-offish. Unfortunately this was the case with this novel. I just really didn't like the heroine. She seemed really two dimensional to me, trying to be 3-dimensional but not really making it. I was disappointed, because I like the hero. He's sweet and interesting and nice.

Dying Commitment

Dying Commitment. I gave this book a 4/5 only because the number of typographical errors made it harder to read - not sure if this book was rushed out before a good proofread but it was noticeable. The story was great and I love the Lucky 13!
