Novella 1: The Elena

In a fractured Britain, the Genetic Enhancement Ministry has taken control. Parents buy designer babies, and those with genetic faults are labelled Blemished and shunned by society. The Fractured is the first part of a spin-off series based on The Blemished, which will focus on some of the secondary characters and their stories. Part one follows the life of Elena as she experiences a life-changing event.

Novella 2: The Maggie

But Margaret is surprised as she’s given a new opportunity with new responsibilities. There's just one catch, the new job brings up her past. Margaret remembers herself as a young girl, Maggie Powell, and the mistakes she made as a lab technician working at the Genetic Enhancement Ministry as it first embarked on its take-over of Britain. She remembers the mistakes she made, the people who betrayed her, and the way they shaped her as a woman.

Book 3: The Unleashed

“I wanted to live. I wanted us to have a future, and there was nothing else on my mind. With Daniel by my side, I ran so fast my lungs ached.”

Mina’s world is turned upside down as an important person from her past materialises to take her away from the Compound. She finds herself separated from her friends and facing life-changing decisions on her own.

Fans of the popular YA dystopia series 'Blemished' will not be disappointed by this thrilling conclusion. It will keep you guessing right up to the very last page. Trust no one.

The blemished
Mina Hart was born during the Fractured when The Ministry overtook London. Mina and her father live in Area 14. Mina is fifteen years old attending the school for the Blemished where she learns to serve the GEMs. GEMs are genetically enhanced designer babies. Blemished are people with imperfect genes.
From the moment Mina entered school in Area 14 she had altercations with the GEMs. She’s trying to blend in not draw attention to her. The Ministry has rules set for the Blemished. Punishment follows to any Blemished who breaks the laws. Mina just wants to save herself from the Ministry. She would like nothing more than to escape the Ministry. Freedom is the only solution. There is a Resistance group, but that’s not the direction she wants to head. The only way is to fight. Her mission is to end the Ministry.
I wanted to like this series more than I did. I’ve read every psychological thriller written by Sarah A Denzil under her pen name. Sarah Dalton is the name she uses for this dystopian YA series. The writing style isn’t not her signature style in the psychological thrillers. I couldn’t connect with her writing voice in this series. The concept was okay. It’s been compared to the likes of Hunger Games. To me that’s not a good comparison. Although, the age of the characters fits. The powers that Mina and Daniel have lean more towards Divergent.
The vanished
Mina went from being imperfect to being forgotten in a matter of days. Welcome to the Vanished compound where the people escaped to get away from the Ministry into the forgotten lands of Scotland. Mina traded the life of Area 14 for a life with the Clans. It’s supposed to be a new beginning, but something feels off about this place. She left being Blemished and became a Vanished.
Mina meets new communities of people in the Compound: the scavengers, the Children of the People, the Council and the Freaks.
I’m reminded of The Walking Dead and how every season the group of survivors in the community worked together to build a new home. As time wore on new groups threatened other groups by forcing them to join there group. The clans within the compound function much the same way. While Mina fought for a place outside Ministry laws she’s once again was faced by a new society of laws. Outside the walls of the Compound Mina meets new groups.
I felt the same way about The Vanished as I did The Blemished. It was okay. I felt it was a repeat of the first book in many ways. This is a character driven story with an array of new character introductions. I felt for a story about powers it was very limiting in the beginning. This doesn’t rank up there with Harry Potter with its power potential. The only similarity is the segregation of those with powers and those without.
The writing style of Sarah Dalton is definitely different than her writing voice of Sarah A. Denzil. I’m disappointed I’m not enjoying this YA dystopian series as much as her psychological thrillers. I’m certain there is a select group of readers who will love this series, unfortunately I’m not that reader.
The Fractured: Elena
Elena is a GEM. She was introduced in Blemished. Elena bullied Mina in the beginning until Sebastian set her straight. In the end, Elena helped Mina escape Area 41.
Back in Area 41 Elena is dealing with the ramifications of helping Mina. Her life is about to change.
For readers who wanted more character development about Elena will be pleasantly surprised by the direction she took.
It was an okay read. The extension of information pertaining to Elena is pertinent to the cause and one in which is necessary for the success of taking down the Ministry.
The Fractured: Maggie
This is a spin-off story about Margaret the teacher who had it out for Mina. For readers who want more information regarding Maggie’s handy work in trying to kill Mina will be pleased with the direction Sarah Dalton took this character.
Having Maggie’s updated story helps bridge the gap between The Vanished and The Unleashed.

Mina and her friends are living in harsh times. The Fractured world is a dangerous place. There’s no one they can trust. All that’s left is to fight in wars to protect them.
Mina’s a weapon of war. She fought against Hamish and his men. Her face was plastered on screens exposing how powerful she is.
As the dust begins to settle Mina and her friends begin to rebuild there lives in the Compound. The Ministry isn’t done with them yet.
They get separated from each other after Mina gets reunited with a few unexpected visitors. Her powers are put to the test once again.

The Unleashed tells the story from various perspectives starting with Daniel then Mina and finishing with Angela. The story continues this way from beginning to end.
I found myself once again faced with the same feeling; it’s an okay read. I’m not compelled to read this final book any more than the other two books. Unfortunately, this series didn’t hit the spot for me. It was mediocre at best.
I tried so hard to get excited about this final outcome. It’s not like I don’t enjoy dystopian storyline’s because I do. But I couldn’t help comparing some of the storyline with the Walking Dead. The way the Clans had different agendas with dangerous leaders brainwashing and manipulating people brought me back to those episodes.

Whole range of emotions

I laughed and cried and wanted to throttle some of the characters in equal parts. It's quite the journey and to write anything specific will give away spoilers. It ended a little fast but the epilogue tied up 99% of your questions. There's plenty of action to keep you interested throughout the story. There is a lot of fighting in the end that the very young readers might not be good with....PG13 I would say. The first two books are really from Mina's point of view....the last book must've been written when all the writers decided to give us points of view by chapter...for the most part it's Mina, Daniel and Angela views...

All in all I enjoyed the story, and I cried at the end, but I'm not telling you if they were happy or sad tears, that's too big of a spoiler.

Started out ok, but....

The last 1/2 of The Unleashed was just a bit mess. There was so much going on it seriously became uninteresting. I flipped pages just to get to the point. There were too many groups fighting each other. The whole GEM vs Blemished in a blur. And of course, in between, teen angst. (Which I'm getting used to with YA.) With some tweaking, the story could almost be as good as the Divergent series. All in all, an ok read, just that.

I did buy this boxed set but also reviewed each story separately, as they deserved.

For this review, I will only say this dystopian series is filled with action, questions about humanity, a gamut of emotions and a story extremely well told.

Well-written and engaging from start to finish.

Highly recommended.

My rating of this series is a 2.5. The story wasn't bad, but the writing wasn't great and the editing was awful. I typically get caught up in the story and might not notice one or two errors, but this contained so many grammatical and spelling errors that it distracted you from the story.

I loved this entire Blemished Series! I was so into the books that I had a hard time putting them down at night. I would give this book a 5 instead of 4 if it wasn't for the ending of the series. The ending was a let down considering how interesting the books were.

Really great having the full series all together with both the books and the novellas. I enjoyed the characters and the story in this immersive series. Lots of interesting twists and turns along the way.

Awesome

Excellent action, adventure, and romance. Easy to read. Scary to imagine. Loved every minute. The characters are so real and alive, I expected to see them around every corner.

The first 2 books were a 3.0. The last book lost my interest, and I'd rate it a 2.5.

Dramatic

I found this book to be very dramatic but also very real. It made me see that some writers do listen to their readers.
