Truly one of the best, if not the best, overview of Stoic philosophy. It covers the beginning of Stoic thought and takes it all the way to modern application. I highly recommend.

This did kind of give chatGPT generated because of the way it was laid out and the tone of the writing. I would never want to accuse an author of that so I don’t take putting it in this review lightly but that’s just what I felt as I read it. There were several useful points and things I felt I took away from the book but it didn’t feel like anything other than a manual.

Personally I picked this up as a book for my 75 hard challenge, I’ve been told I have a personality that follows stoic teaching but I didn’t really know anything about the subject or its philosophy. This definitely showed me that I do have a mindset similar to that of the stoics.

I wanted this to be an easy to read summary of an ancient philosophy. While it did touch on these things, it turned out to primarily be a self help book. Turns out I really don't like self help books.

This is an excellent book as an introduction for beginners. This was my Sunday morning read, the book is a little less than 200 pages, and it went well with coffee. I have read a fair bit about stoicism, but I find it hard to discuss because I have my own ideas about it, but I think this book would be useful to a lot of people. I think the author does a great job of presenting the school of stoicism, and I'm sure he's drawn some criticism - hopefully - but as an introduction to a school of thought like stoicism, I think this is a fine introduction.

Unexpected

I bought this book accidentally. The wrong click and it was sent to my electronic library. I tried to return it but gave up. I am so glad that I kept it! It’s a fantastic book. I had been studying the Stoics so this book was the perfect fit. The practices are easy to read and understand and well, practical. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I’ll probably reread it on a daily basis to keep myself grounded. Thank you Michael Whiteclear!

Seems to be written by AI, a lot of repetition in certain phrases throughout that just seem odd for a human writer to do. The book has a lot of basic information about stoicism that is useful and can help if this is a completely new subject but there's no real depth, and a lot of fluff, book could have been less than 100 pages and been more impactful.

life lessons

By reading this book I found myself comparing stoicism with Buddhism. It astonished me how similar thoughts and practices occurred thousands of miles away from each other. Its a great book with suggestions to live a just and happy life.

REPETITIVE !!!

I Read Marcus Aurelius Meditations, before I read this one. I should have done it the other way around. I did pick up info about the history and other Stoics besides the big three. HOWEVER. Super repetitive.

This was a good book. I highlighted a lot from it and will go back and refer to it in the future. The first part was more powerful. As I got into later parts, I found it a bit simplistic.
If you are new to stoicism, it’s a great springboard. I found
Examples to repetitive, some methods or explanations a bit simple. I’m glad I read Mr. Clearwater’s book and I will share it with me sons that are in my early twenties
