With the gore gimmick running thin, Sakamoto Days needs to find a new trick to keep the momentum going before stale plots burn it out completely.

So, as I said before the school days storyline here is not that fun. The focus of most of this volume is with the filmmaker villain is just not that interesting. The art is good.

Volume 11 is an enjoyable volume that plunges the characters into the full-scale assault on the JCC (Japanese Criminal-Assassins) school. The action is fantastic, and the main event is a brutal, pretty intense fight between Satoda Sensei and a "Director Assassin" named Kanaguri. This showdown is a true highlight and has an excellent ending.

Overall, it's a really fun, action-packed volume. I'll be honest, though, there are so many goddamn factions and characters I'm starting to get really confused on who is who. Maybe reading the volumes so far apart wasn't my best idea. Saying that, the action is still fantastic, with some solid humor, and overall fun moments to be had. For its high-octane entertainment, it gets a 3.5 out of 5.

If you like a lot of fighting scenes this series is for you, though the character design and the art style is not my cup of tea.

This volume has been expertly weaving big action set pieces together with deep and personal character writing. It managed to satisfyingly focus on like 7 different characters and their ideals and backstories without feeling rushed. This manga is on another level.

2025 reread: this is such a fantastic volume. i wanted to reread this series physically this time around because i kew the bonus material in-between chapters would be wonderful. i escpeacially loved this volume because it hughlights the background artists that work on the manga. i genuinely also loved the fights outside of sakamoto’s during this volume as welll.

give me more sakamoto!

This arc has given Shin a lot more time to grow and feel better about his abilities, which I have really appreciated. There is also more character work with the side characters. The mangaka clearly does a lot of character work for the villains and provides good motivations across the board, which makes it easy to care about all of the characters. I'm excited to learn more about this world as we continue to delve further and further in in each volume.

Lots of great fight sequences! I don't know who's crazier, Kanaguri or Club Jam? Probably Club Jam, "Wheeeee! I've never been electrocuted before!" Lol good grief. Anyway, this is my favorite series. Can't wait for volume 12 :)

Shishiba saved this volume tbh. I didn’t care for Club Jam at all, but the final 2 chapters got me hype again. I wasn’t familiar with his game. Shin's still my goat tho 🗣️🗣️

Suite de l'arc JCC.

Madame Satoda affronte Kanaguri.

Chapter 89: Etsuko Satoda the oddball who rejected the invitation to join the order and chose a teaching career instead. I shot a movie about you a long time ago. Fiction, though.
Then I suppose this is the sequel?
No. I don't do sequels.
But I like Terminator 2 better!

Chapter 89: How many times do we have to retake this scene?
However long it takes to protect my students until your film is destroyed.

Chapter 90: There were 25 of us in our class. Only the two of us are still alive. People die too often in this world. We have to start by changing education.

Chapter 90: The girl whose Aunt was killed by Slur.

Chapter 90: Rising even after death to protect her student? Now that's what I call Japanese horror!

Chapter 91: I hear you can shoot movies with smartphones these days! It's good to embrace new techniques sometimes! When life gives you lemons, then challange yourself as a director!

Chapter 91: No matter how good the cinematography is if the script sucks, then it's a one-star dud.

Chapter 92: People who judge others by their appearances don't last long in this world.

Chapter 94: When did you escape the hypnosis?!
I was never under it to begin with.

Chapter 96: It's true that membership is limited to ten. But the roster has never been full.

Chapter 97: Gotta work on neck strength.

- tangina bwisit na bwisit na’ko kay kanaguri sa 22o lang i can excuse murder and violence but i draw the line at bodyshaming
- shishiba lore awww kaya pala siya yung cover hehe
- i love the ‘background’s background corner’ at the end of every chapter i’ve always been interested in the process so it’s nice to get a behind-the-scenes look!! i think it’s so cool that the mangaka’s assistants are given the share of the spotlight + the way they talk abt sakamoto workplace so passionately, it looks like they really love the work that they do there 🥺
- this is the volume where the first popularity vote was released ASAKURA SHIN FIRST PLACE DEASERRVEE

I was thinking during last volume that this manga reminds me a bit of John Wick; I only really care about the cool action, but the writer keeps dumping goofy lore on me. It was especially funny because there's a library fight in this volume, which is a notable setpiece in one of the Wick movies as well.

Anyway, despite complaints above, the writing here is mostly pretty good. The lore about this huge assassin world is for some reason harder to suspend disbelief for than e.g. Naruto, but that's not the point in this volume. Here, the primary concern is for a handful of characters, in particular Amane's family.

Shishiba was antagonistic toward Sakamoto earlier, right? Cuz he's kind of a "bad guy" now (again?), if we assume Amane's dad is about to be redeemed.

Giving this Five Stars because I find it better than some previous volumes, and I've rated most of those at Four Stars. Simple as.

The fights at the JCC are ramping up. As the enemy searches for the database, Sakamoto and company must race to protect not only the database, but the lives of all the students. The gimmicks of the enemies here aren't quite as interesting as villains past. Seriously, is Kanaguri's weapon just a camera and film clapboard. He has a pretty cool fight with Etsuko, but her time in the story was extremely shortlived. Shin gets a cool moment teaming up with some new characters, but it's starting to feel like the cast of supporting characters is large and spread thin. Sakamoto of course gets a cool moment in his fight, but it seems that the gimmick of losing weight and getting serious is also starting to wear out.

I do love the art and the cool panels that we get with each fight. It's easy to read and understand what's happening.

The “Database” revelation is revealed, and it is more interesting than I thought it would be. The battles are great! I will say that I suffer from reading One Punch Man at the same time and so while these scenes are amazing…some of the shine is hard to compare. I really enjoyed this volume and some of the touching and yet awesome moments courtesy of Yuto Suzuki. I absolutely love this cover. I have realized more and more that these series jump from person to person down the roaster of people in manga titles. I don’t know who started it, but I often think back to Bleach on rarely ever repeating the character. This volume does not disappoint and fills your eyes with entertainment to last panel. Definitely has you waiting impatiently for the next volume!

A review of the whole series up until now (chapter 163, WHICH EATS BY THE WAY) I can’t believe it took me so long to read Sakamoto Days, it’s so fucking good. I have such a fun time reading it and I love basically every character we meet. So far my favorite arc is the past arc where we see Sakamoto, Nagumo, and Akko in action while at the JCC, talk about a fucking dream team. But I feel like the story is consistently getting better so I’m really excited to read on! Chapter 163….what the hell are we gonna do now. Side note Shin is such a mystery, like there has to be more to him than what we know because why did that one guy seem to recognize him from the past?
