Woohoo! SEALed With A Kiss: Heroes With Heart got released early! I was lucky enough to get sneak peek at J.M. Madden's story, SEAL's Lost Dream and that alone is worth buying the book!! But...you get 8, yes, 8 stories for only $0.99...awesome!
5 Huge Stars for SEAL's Lost Dream by J.M. Madden.
The Military War Dogs that have taken part in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan are the unsung heroes of the wars. Numbering at about 2500 working animals, it is believed that they have saved more than 10,000 lives. There isn’t a lot of publicity about these dogs, so I have had to take some liberties with the story, but I tried to stay as true to what I know as I could. I hope you enjoy it! ~ J.M. Madden
Amazing...just amazing!! You all know how much I love this author’s writing, and when I think she can't top herself, she does it again!! I ADORED this story, from beginning to end...perfect, I could find no fault, and in my opinion this is her best one yet!!
The hero, Flynn, is suffering from PTSD and the tragic loss of Mace, his Military War Dog in Afghanistan. Flynn works for Lost and Found Investigations, so there is a connection to that series, and you'll get a brief glimpse of Duncan. J.M. Madden doesn't hold back and once again she gives us a real hero whose heart is broken, and he's trying desperately to live a normal life. Flynn has a huge heart, and what he does to cope, and bring some meaning into his life, will bring you to tears. Willow is the veterinarian who helps him, not only with his new mission, but dealing with some heavy burdens he’s carrying, and she is awesome...just awesome! What a strong female character, a full-figured girl…love that, and she’s so in tune with Flynn. She doesn't pity him, she doesn't push him, and she lets him find his way back to himself in his own time, in his own way…she nudges a little, steers him, but is never overbearing. Their relationship builds slowly, friendship first, and when they take it to the next level…KABOOM!! J.M. knows how to ramp up the heat!!
Maya...well you'll just have to read it and find out for yourself who Maya is, what she does for Flynn, and the beauty that happens when they are together! Guinness…fantastic, and I’m not talking about beer!
There are some scenes that are graphic, they will break your heart, and all too often are a reality when animals are mistreated, so be prepared. The author drew from one of her own personal experiences to tell the tale of one broken, dying dog. Get your tissues ready.
Oh my Duncan, I can't wait for his story. He needs someone as wonderful and awe-inspiring as he is. The advice he gives to Flynn, so special it was one of my favorite scenes in the book. He knows his men inside and out. He’s not just a great leader, he’s a true friend!
“Flynn felt restless and unsettled. When he’d returned stateside, he’d been seriously damaged. Counseling had helped take the edge off, but not enough to make him polite for public consumption. Working with the guys at Lost and Found had actually helped more than anything. They accepted all his quirks and allowed him to build an environment he could function in and become productive. Duncan, his boss, had truly created a haven for all of the veterans he had hired, and Flynn could never express to him the gratitude he felt.”
All returning veterans should have the opportunity to have the friendship and camaraderie, jobs that give their life meaning and sense of purpose, as the employees of Lost and Found do! I love that about this series, as raw and real as it is, it will also touch you deep in your soul and warm you from head to toe!
SEAL’s Lost Dream is a wonderful, layered, inspiring story, with memorable characters that will steal your heart, and it also delivers a powerful message. It’s a novella, but reads like so much more, and yes there is an epilogue!! I don’t know how she does it, but keep ‘em coming J.M.!!!
Now I’m going back to read the rest of the stories!
Four-legged soldiers working with their two-legged comrades and keeping them safe!
*Thank you to J.M. Madden for the honor of allowing me to read her story in this anthology*
I read the J M Madden story for a second time (because I didn't remember reading it before, and since I met Flynn in Chad' s book, I was curious about him). I loved it! There was just enough story and heat and I liked both characters. Joe Flynn is a former Navy SEAL injured in the line of duty along with his combat trained dog (who dies after taking a bullet for him), and is suffering from PTSD. Willow is the curvy veterinarian who befriends him when he brings injured strays to her practice. An injured dog named Maya brings them together and the story is informative, sweet, and hot. 4 1/2 stars Hope to eventually read the others in this SEAL anthology...
Ophelia had been in happily wedded bliss with her new husband Navy SEAL Vinny DeInnocentis, but when she found out she was pregnant she is completely thrown for a loop. Ophelia has been so focused on her gritty reporting often exposing falsehoods in the political systems, that she knows once she announces she is pregnant that career will be sidelined. Now on an assignment to expose Pennsylvania's governor, Ophelia may risk everything she has for a story.
This is a follow up story to one of Marless Melton's previous novels. I thought this was unexpected, although I did not know the history between Vinny and Ophelia, it was easy to pick up and no doubting the love shared between the two. Intriguing read.
CODE OF SILENCE by Marliss Melton is an exciting Romantic Suspense. Navy SEAL Team 12 #9, but can be read as a stand alone. Visit the author's website for a listing of the previous titles. A Novella featuring Ophelia and Vinny Price. Vinny and Ophelia were characters in Ms. Melton's "Next to Die" title. Another winner for Ms. Melton! Fast paced and action packed. Filled with betrayal, secrets, passion, corruption, danger, a corrupt Congressman, a kidnapping and so much more is packed into 146 pages of pure enjoyment. Engaging characters and a fulfilling storyline.
My only complaint, to short!
Ms. Melton does her usual aplomb with "Code of Silence". I love her stories and would highly recommend "Code of Silence" to readers who enjoy fast paced action, danger, the forces of a conscience, sexy men and feisty women. I have yet to read one of Ms. Melton's stories that I wasn't enthralled with and "Code of Silence" is no different. A great read! Well done indeed!!
If you have not read any of Marliss Melton's stories I would recommend starting with "Forget Me Not", this is the first in the series. Although, you do not have to read in order, each title is a stand alone, with re-appearing characters.
Received for an honest review.
RATING: 4.5

Code of Silence by Marliss Melton. I am a fan of M. Melton. The character of Ophelia was so hard to like. She was self-centered and selfish, not to mention her lies. She said she wasn't good enough for Vinny and I agree with her. Her character really ruined the story for me. However, Vinny was a great guy as M. Melton is so awesome at developing these Seal's characters. Too bad he didn't have a supportive mate. I tend to enjoy stories where too equally matched characters work through their story together. This one didn't do it for me.
This review is based only on the story by JM Madden.
The author's Lost and Found series is one of my favorites, I like how these men realize they aren't as broken as they think. This one was more heartbreaking than normal due to the animals. Flynn seems to be a magnet for hurt animals, he keeps finding them and is unable to do nothing, instead he brings them to a Vet. At the start you can tell the relationship between Flynn and Willow is strictly professional, but they are both interested by the other. I loved the role that Maya played in getting them together. It was hard not to love Maya, even more when you realize how in tune Maya was to Flynn, and how she ultimately helps put Flynn's ghost to rest. When Flynn talked about Mace, my heart broke, both for the last time the spent together and later when Flynn needed him around. I loved how Willow reacted to discovering Mace, both times, it was just was Flynn needed, acceptance.
I'm a big Vinny fan, Ophelia...not so much. She's self-centered and thinks nothing of keeping secrets from him as a matter of routine. It's pretty effortless for her and this time it had disastrous results. Her epiphany at the end still wasn't enough to redeem this character and Vinny was too forgiving. However, the action in the story was great and kept me turning the pages so it earned it a half star. 3.5 stars
This Anthology is full stories of Hot SEALS and by some of my favorite military authors... There are short novella reads and even full length reads... It is a steal for 0.99 cents.
-Code of Silence by Marliss Melton was the first story in anthology... Vinny and Ophelia have a great story and Ophelia has a tendency to get herself into trouble due to her job. Not to mention she has other reasons for going to her Mother-In Laws for Thanksgiving. This story has everything you could want in a Military Romance, it pulls at your heart strings, make you call the heroine stupid, has bad guys, Sexy Heroes and even some make up sex. Really liked this one.
-Holding On by Stephanie Taylor is the second story in the anthology... It was a quick little read, I loved how Chris would do anything to get home in time for the birth of his son. Jamie is hell bent on having a home birth and wants nothing more thank Chris to be there for the birth. Throw in Family, Snowstorm, Stubborn breach baby, crazy travel plans, and just a bit of luck... You get one great read.
-Mutiny's Bounty by Delilah Devlin is the third story in the anthology and introduces us to Lace and Dex... Lace is a travel agent who books adventure vacations... She is out to try swimming with sharks when her fear gets the better of her and literally has her "saved" by Dex. Dex is providing security along with other members of his team...When he see Lace he thinks she is just another rich girl who wants a fling... Couldn't be more wrong... When the Adventure vacation goes crazy and the guides are the bad guys... Can Dex save the day and protect Lace... Falling in love in some cases is more dangerous then swimming with the sharks. I Loved this story as it ties in with Delilah Devlin's other book Dangerous Liaison which was published in the Uniformed Desires Anthology/Box Set. It has great sex scenes, action, alpha males, and a stubborn heroine who knows what she wants.
-Warrior (Crossfire #5) by Gennita Low is the fourth story in the anthology and I have to say I love me some Cucumber and Cupcake. This was one of the full stories and I absolutely loved it. Gennita Low has a way of writing both action packed and humorous stories. The Pink Room is to die for and so is Kit (Cupcake) and Lucas's (Cucumber) banter. I love how she connects her Crossfire series and the characters from book to book... It have everything interconnecting missions, action, danger, humor, Hot Sex and Complete characters... Great addition to this anthology.
-SEALS Desire by Elle James is the fifth story in the anthology... It is not only about overcoming loss but also being able to forgive yourself. Remy and Mitchel shouldn't ever be together as Mitchel was Remy's friend and teammates girl. However both make a pack if they are single on Valentines Day they are going to go out. However,Mitchel is undercover as a stripper and Remy just happens to almost blow her cover... Mitchell is determined to find her friend, even though she could be in a lot of danger, Remy won't let her work alone so him and his team back her up... This is a great read, that has great sex, suspense and a complete story line. - Breaking Free by Teresa Reasor is the sixth story in the anthology and one of my favorite. When Zoe's Brother (Brett) is injured during a mission, his Commanding Officer Adam (Hawk) offers both her mom and her a place to stay till Brett gets better. Zoe is knows something happened but Hawk isn't talking and the hardest thing is knowing that someone within the team is responsible for Brett's injury. Hawk and Zoe fight their attraction but soon loose that fight to what feels right. Knowing who to trust is hard and when team secrets come out will the team be broken for it, and will Zoe & Hunter be able to make a go of their relationship. I love that Zoe is not a flawless beauty and the Hawk makes her feel beautiful and worth something. Great Story.
- SEALS Lost Dream by J.M Madden is the seventh story in the anthology and is connected to her Lost and Found Series. Flynn was a Navy SEAL K9 Handler and deals with PTSD and the loss of his MWD (Military War Dog). He is a magnet for animals that are hurt and takes them to the local Veterinarian Willow. He never says much just makes sure they get taken care of and leaves. When Maya the dog he saves adopts him as her human we see Flynn deal with the loss of his K9 and the inability to function like a "normal" person. I love that Willow accepts him as he is and works to make things easier for him. J.M Madden has a way with writing wounded warriors that touches you heart and has you falling in love the hero along side their heroine. Another awesome read.
-Seal My Destiny by Sharon Hamilton is the last story in the this anthology. Luke has PTSD and guilt over both the marine and his fiance who died next to him. He finds comfort in the arms of Julie and after their night together he feels closed in and brushes her off. The wedding of his sister takes him right to Julie and the realization that his sister and her brother are getting married. Julie and Luke work it out over coffee and well some hot sex... There are ups in downs in this story which I like and Sharon Hamilton shows that asking for help is not a weakness. I really liked this story and found it a fitting ending to this anthology.
Overall- This is a great anthology which is filled with stories by great authors and focuses on Alpha men and the women who make them whole.
Review for SEAL my Destiny: After coming back from a horrible tour, Luke has become more damaged when he meets Julie on the beach. The two of them have an amazing night of passion and then they go their separate ways only to reconnect when his sister and her brother get married. But is Luke too damaged to be with Julie? And when Luke goes on another tour and can't get ahold of her when he's back in the states, will he lose his chance to be with her forever?
Holding On by Stephanie Tyler Jamie Michaels knows her baby will be coming soon, but she is determined to wait until her Navy SEAL husband Chris Waldron can be there. Her little baby though seems to be holding all the cards though and with Chris on an assignment that could delay him from getting there in time, time is running out.
A follow up story to the Hold On series. Very sweet story, I had not read any from this series but was curious enough that I will definitely be picking it up.
Mutiny's Bounty by Delilah Devlin Lace McElhannon isn't one to usually back down when she wants something, swimming with sharks, not so much but making a play for ex-SEAL Dex Haygood absolutely. Vacationing Dex is one of the men keeping an eye out on the seas as well as the guests, but he is a man who likes to be in control and Lace is a perfect candidate for some high seas adventure.
Seductive, liked Dex is he is very straight to the point, while Lace wants to play, Dex wants to conquer. Had a little bit of everything, humor, romance, and suspense.
Warrior by Gennita Low After a not so normal introduction, SEAL Lucas Branson who always goes after what he wants, knows he wants journalist Kit Ling Harrison. Kit is different than any woman he has ever met and although their time together is brief, the plan is to spend more time together after Lucas gets back from assignment. Imagine Lucas's surprise when he finds Kit in Taliban territory and even more surprising that she doesn't panic, she flourishes.
New author for me, this was a lot of fun to read. It was humorous as well as told a serious story. Definitely going to check out more from this author.
Seal's Desire by Elle James Navy SEAL Remy LaDue has been anxiously waiting for his leave which just so happens to land on Valentine's Day, he has plans with a woman he has been lusting over for years. Now he just has to find her, but NCIS agent Mitchell Sanders is undercover working as a stripper trying to find out what happened to her friend. Once Remy finds her though all bets are out Remy doesn’t know if he should spank her or help her.
Delicious, the story was sexy and had you drawn in instantly. I was surprised by some of the turns in this story, an unexpected treat.
Breaking Free by Teresa Reasor When her brother is injured and in a coma on a mission, Zoe Weaver runs to his side receiving comfort from his teammates and trying to make sense of his condition. Lieutenant Adam "Hawk" Yazzie offers his home to Zoe and her mother while her brother remains in a coma. When it looks like the injury her brother sustained could possibly be foul play, Hawk enlists Zoe's help all the while trying to keep his attraction to her quiet, for Hawk has some fears of his own and one of them is believing he can have a happily ever after of his own.
This felt more like a full novel to me in this anthology set. Has a lot of story going on from Zoe to Hawk to the mystery behind Zoe's brothers injury. Entertaining story.
Seal's Lost dream by JM Madden
Veterinarian Willow James doesn’t know much about Joe Flynn other than he has a knack for finding animals needing help, he's attractive, and he is an enigma. Former Navy SEAL K9 Flynn has not been able to get past losing his partner while on duty which is why he wants nothing to do with animals, but it seems like they are determined to find him. Flynn feels he is damaged but with Willow's easy demeanor and a dog who has decided that she is his, Flynn is beginning to believe he has another shot at happiness.
This was a unique story as it focused on K9's, I had not read a book like this before. A heartfelt read.
Seal My Destiny by Sharon Hamilton Navy Seal Luke Paulsen knows he is not handling the remnants from his last tour well and when he meets a woman who completely throws him off his game, he wonders if she may just be the distraction he needs. However after a brief encounter it implodes, leaving a hurt young woman and Luke wonder if he will ever forget the nightmares that are haunting him. When he finds the girl he can't forget again at a wedding, Luke needs to decide if he is willing to let him go a second time.
The story starts with a bang, very fun read and a perfect book to end the anthology with.
CODE OF SILENCE - Marliss Melton: Navy SEAL Vinny DeInnocentis has no idea his news reporter wife is keeping secrets. With her hard-won reputation for rooting out corruption, Ophelia can’t let a little thing like her unexpected pregnancy get in the way of exposing Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor for the liar he is. DNF - she thinks her husband will force her to stay at home and give up her job. Whether she's right or wrong puts her into the TSTL category in my book.
SEAL MY DESTINY by New York Times and USA/Today Bestselling Author Sharon Hamilton: Back from a horrible tour, Navy SEAL Luke Paulsen has a chance encounter with a woman who begins to unthaw his troubled soul. Deciding he’s too damaged, he begs off further entanglement, but then meets her again a month later at a family wedding, where the unavoidable attraction pulls them together as never before. Will their love be enough to heal them both for a chance at a Happily Ever After? Argh, hated this. Too much sex, some very odd euphemisms and how she can pick up a random man on the beach, go to a motel, use some pink ribbed condom (that she just happened to have on her) and then with a straight face say this is not like her! DNF
HOLDING ON - Stephanie Tyler: Jamie Michaels is an FBI Agent, married to a Navy SEAL…and about to give birth while her husband’s deployed. Navy SEAL Chris Waldron’s been on some impossible missions before, but getting home in time for the birth of his son might prove to be the toughest–and most rewarding mission of all. Only for readers of the series as otherwise there's no real story - but for those of us who've read the books it was sweet
WARRIOR - Gennita Low: On a covert operation with his SEAL team, Lucas Branson bumps into his love interest, Kit Ling Harrison, who is overseas with her media team interviewing victims of war. Things get interesting when he and Kit end up on an unexpected road trip. Chasing vehicles, avoiding RPGs, singing silly songs, and falling in love ensue. DNF - pushy SEAL and a ridiculous pink suite in a B&B where three SEALs are forced to spend the night!
SEAL's DESIRE - Elle James: Back from deployment, Navy SEAL Remy LaDue's planned Valentine's Day date with NCIS agent Mitchell Sanders runs amuck when he finds her undercover as a sexy stripper at a local lounge. Remy and his team join forces with Mitchell to find a missing woman and discover a human trafficking organization in the darkest heart of Virginia Beach. DNF - life's too short for yet another woman undercover as a poledancer, she slept with her boyfriend's best friend after her boyfriend's funeral! Then she pretends she is both a poledancer and a prostitute - I bailed at the spanking
SEAL's LOST DREAM by USA Today Bestselling author JM Madden Former Navy SEAL K9 handler Joe Flynn lost his dog in the war and doesn’t want anything to do with animals, but every stray in Denver seems to head his way. Luckily for him, the luscious veterinarian Willow James doesn’t mind taking care of everything he finds. She even seems willing to take him on with all his ghosts, but is he ready to let them go for her? I love JM Madden and I'm a sucker for dogs. Great story.
BREAKING FREE - Teresa Reasor When her brother Brett is attacked and left for dead, Zoe Weaver and Lieutenant Adam 'Hawk' Yazzie work together to discover if one of his SEAL teammates is responsible for his injuries. But will loyalties forged on the battlefield prove more binding than the truth? Or their love? Not bad, I felt it went on a bit and there were lots of red herrings. BUT, I didn't guess the real culprit and there were several scenes where I thought things would work out differently so that was good.
MUTINY'S BOUNTY - Delilah Devlin: Interested only in experiencing an adrenaline-packed adventure first-hand to give her credo when she books her clients’ adventure vacations, Lace McElhannon finds more excitement than she can handle when she meets and falls into bed with ex-SEAL Dex Haygood. Fresh from protecting transport ships from Somali pirates, Dex figures his latest job will be a cakewalk, until he finds himself in deep water, swimming with sharks and trying to protect Lace when the yacht they’re sailing on is taken. DNF
Overall, I was surprised at the number of grammatical errors in the book: the grocer's apostrophe happened so often I was starting to think I was wrong; using council when counsel was meant; use of some words which I didn't recognise and neither did my dictionary "baching" anyone? I know I only paid 49 pence for the book but the number of errors was striking.
I have read this book before but decided to revisit as I was reading the SEAL Team 12 series. They are good stories; however, each of the stories is actually part of different series. This is a good way of sucking you into multiple series without even trying.
Anyhow, this is book 3.5, I believe, in SEAL Team 12 series. It is a short but sweet story. For the backstory and what happens within the couple, you might want to read the series, because with this short story you just don't get the entire story.
The story starts with a girlfriend (our heroine) of one of the SEAL's (our hero) finding herself pregnant. She doesn't want children and has been doing everything in her power not to become but the hero wants babies with her like crazy and considers family everything. Unfortunately, this is the tussle for most of the story line especially after he finds out she's pregnant. The other thing is the hero's mother not liking the heroine very well either. The heroine wants a career and one that makes her feel important which is why she's a reporter. Again, this is the gist, but the backstory of this is found in the other books.
Anyhow, one of the heroine's stories finds out about her story and decides to follow up one over the Thanksgiving holiday. However, the guy and his group of criminals finds out and kidnaps her. The hero, along with many of his SEAL buddies, helps out to get her back. However, what they find is her story is linked in with a bigger and overall story of the entire series which the heroine stumbled into.
When I read this short story, I didn't like the heroine or the mother of the hero. I felt for the hero and liked how all the SEALs bound together. This being said, once I started to read the series, I understood where both the heroine, hero and hero's mother stood and the reason for their outlooks. While the boxed collections like this are good to get you to try multiple series, just remember these don't give you the complete story sometimes.
Code of Silence: 3.5. Ophelia didn't start off very likable and I wanted to break her face. But I decided to stick with it and see if she could grow and become a better person. She did! Will be reading more Marliss Melton.
SEAL My Destiny: 2.5 Heat level wasn't really my thing. I liked Luke as a hero, but there were just enough errors in the SEAL world that I've no interest in reading any more by this author.
Holding On: Skipped, first chapter didn't grab me.
Warrior: 4. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Thought it was a little short, but I like big books. I was a little confused with some of the background from earlier in the series, but it made me want to read the rest of it even more!
SEAL's Desire: 4. Will be reading the rest of the series. Love the team dynamics.
SEAL's Lost Dream: 5!! But it's J.M. Madden and Lost and Found. I adore the series, and this was an awesome addition.
Breaking Free: DNF. Zoe was all over the place as a character and her motivation made no sense. The conflict between her and Hawk had no depth. And the author created a world with no enlisted men. The research errors, or rather lack of research, alone was enough to make me put it down, but combined with everything else there's no way this is a book I could finish or a series I'll read. This author is a don't touch for me.
Ophelia isnt the easiest character to like but she made me tear up in a few places. She always been pretty one tracked minded in her career and will go to any lengths to get a story. When she unexpectantly finds herself pregnant she still only thinks about what this will do to her career and doesnt tell her husband. When the go to visit Vinny's family for Thanksgiving she plans to use her time there to go after a corrupt congressman not letting her husband know of her plans. Boy does this backfire on her when she is kidnapped for knowing to much. The suspense was enough to keep you on the edge and it was nice seeing the Seals team from books past come in to help Vinny get her back. But the heartbreak after she is rescued and Ophelia coming to realize her decisions are selfish and she doesnt deserve Vinny brought me to tears. Vinny loves his wife, warts and all. He has never seen her the way she does or how other perceive her. Vinny is the kind of man every woman wishes for. (Vinny and Ophelia were characters in Next to Die)
It's a nice erotic romance with a dash of suspense. I liked both main characters very much and the way the story developed. I have to admit it was the first time I didn't mind very much the insta-love element and predictability of the story. The only issue I had was the style. There were several passages I had to re-read several times to get the meaning - I'm sure with some editorial work this could become a great book.
I think you'll love this novella if you are looking for a light (in terms of character and story development) and entertaining romance set in an exotic location. And just in case - this story may contain triggers for some readers .
This was a bargain, 8 Novellas and all about those wonderful Navy Seals.
I was really excited to read another story from my favourite author Sharon Hamilton, and yes I have read Seal My Destiny first. I find the best thing about anthologies is the chance to discover new authors I haven't read yet, looking forward to working through those other stories next.
Seal my Destiny .... from the first page the story was fast paced and took me on an emotional roller coaster of a ride. Luke back home in the US is fighting those demons, the guilt he is carrying for just being alive, when friends and lovers have been lost, is smothering him. Quite be chance he meets Julie, the mutual attraction is instant and the passion hot and steamy. Then wham the demons are back and its like a switch is flipped. To Julie, Luke felt so right, but can she help him, love him and be with him through the bad times, and build on the good, you'll have to read their story to find out.
Ophelia Price, reporter kept secrets from her Navy SEAL husband Vinny in her personal Code of Silence and it cost her the lose of her unborn child and nearly her marriage.
Four Navy SEAL had promised a Code of Silence to a CIA operative after a mission went south and now ten year later the corrupt ex-CIA agent is enjoying a successful political career, which is all wrong for a man with no honor. Ophelia overhears a bit of what happened on the mission and makes an interview with the politically successful man.
Kidnapping and making public the incident become necessary to keep everyone safe in the future while Ophelia works through her grief and shame.
In the end Vinny waits for her to heal, although it is the hardest thing he has ever had to do. I loved the emotion of the story and how the author increased the strength of both main characters by the end of the story, as the vowed never to have a Code of Silence between them again.
Code of Silence: Never having read any of Ms. Melton's books I rather enjoyed this one. Obviously part of a series as she went through and "reminded" the reader quickly how our characters met and some other circumstances. But it didn't seem necessary to have read the rest of the series. Great story about a Navy Seal's wife and her need to be the best news reporter, she goes on an interview that changes her life.
SEAL' s Lost Dream: I had the lovely chance to beta read this story and loved it. This story fits perfectly with her Lost and Found series as a side kick. She carefully gives us a love story of a wounded soldier healing from a physical injury and an emotional loss. A feisty and smart veterinarian is his love interest but it's a slow burn and worth the build up. The author does a beautiful job of pulling on my heart strings.
A total mixed bag...Some stories were enjoyable, some were so-so, and some were pure, unadulterated crap that seemed to be written by subpar fan-fictionists. (So hard to believe some of these are "bestselling authors"...Yeesh!!!)
I was very pleased to discover J.M. Madden. Her "SEAL's Lost Dream" was by far the best of the lot with well-developed characters and a story that tugged at my heartstrings. Her fluid story and smooth writing reminds me of Suzanne Brockmann (one of my favorite authors). Can't wait to see if her other books are as good. This story deserves FIVE STARS!!!
Unfortunately, even Ms. Madden's superior story couldn't make me give this compilation more than three stars. (And I believe I'm being more than generous here...It probably only deserves a two star rating if I'm being honest. But, what the heck, it was only 99 cents.)
Code Of Silence by Marliss Melton is Romantic Suspense novella based on her Navy SEAL Team 12 characters. It can be read as a stand alone but you'll enjoy it more if you read Next to Die first. This story highlights Ophelia Price (Penny's sister) and Vinny deInnocents.
Vinny and Ophelia run into unexpected problems when her job as an investigative journalist put her in danger. Vinny and the guys rush to save her but there's heartbreak and corruption to deal with.
Code of Silence is an excellent addition to the SEAL Team 12 series.
If you haven't read The Protector by Marliss Melton you should try that one as well. She's also getting a new SEAL series ready about Echo Platoon. I can't wait for that one to debut!
Each author gave us a an amazing story! ALL were drool worthy men and some stories choke you up they are so freaking fantastic. I have been looking forward to Marliss Melton's book for a long time. I wanted to know what happened to Vinny and Ophelia in Code of Silence and she certainly delivered an excellent book! It nearly brought me to tears! I am sorry to say all the other authors were completely new to me but very happy to say not any longer. They have a new follower! I am an official Cucumber and a stooge fan! This set is worth the price and more especially if you discover a new author or authors like I have! worth more than 5 stars but I can only give 5. Thanks ladies for these stories they were great.
This collection has some AWESOME books and novellas! Of course, Teresa Reasor's Breaking Free is the best of the best but I also discovered several new authors that I will be following.
The following books won my heart. JM Madden's SEALs Lost Dream about a K-9 handler whose PTSD comes in part from losing his canine partner. Stephanie Tyler's Holding On, a novella from her Hold series; I will be grabbing those books soon! Genita Low's Warrior goes on that list almost without saying, love her books.
I do expect to be checking out other books by some of the other authors because I enjoyed all of them, but these stories were the ones that caught me and held me most.
Terrific stories !! SEAL's Lost Dream by J.M. Madden Awesome story, and another example of why I read this series !! J.M. Madden writes well, with incredible characters and interesting tales of love and acceptance. I loved the flow, the beautiful soul in Willow, and the alpha strong Flynn. They are great together. He finds compassion, acceptance, true love, and deep caring in Willow. The rescue dogs are wonderful as well, as the dogs are important characters, too. Hot sex, easy loving, and patience are abundant. No rushing, just a steady flow of the plot and formation of a deep relationship. Loved It so much !! Read all of the Lost and Found stories ! Highly recommend. ENJOY !!!
As a reader one thing I absolutely love is being able to revisit characters that I loved. In Code of Silence we are given not only that, but a chance to see that just like in real life the characters in our favorite books don't just ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after. They have bumps and have to work to keep their relationship together. These characters are genuine, and real, and make you feel like you're visiting with old friends. Code of Silence is a must-read for anyone who enjoys Marliss Melton's books, and if you've never read her books this is a great chance to get to know her writing. You'll be hooked, I promise!
2.5 Stars. Not my favorite book in this series. I like Vinny but Ophelia is a hard character to like. She's self centered and has no problem keeping a dangerous situation from her husband and lying to him. She thinks nothing of dragging his sister along and putting her in danger as well. She doesn't think she is good enough for Vinny and well nothing in this book would make the reader think any different. Her big epiphany at the end just didn't save this book for me. However, there was a lot of action and some suspense for such a short book that kept me engaged.
I have been a fan of Mrs Madden and she has never let me down! Ever! She writes about Wounded Warriors and makes it where you want more and more. She always hits the nail on the head with every book. This is a very emotional and amazing read. This read can be read by female or male. This story is about Flynn one of the Lost and Found series men. A must read for everyone. I have to say this one is my favorite out of all of hers.
