Book Three in the Guardians of the Angels Trilogy.
Gold. Such a beautiful color. Such deadly consequences.
As one of the three keys to Eirene, Sylva must protect it at all cost to stop the Derinyes from storming the heavenly realm and taking it for their own. Sylva must keep its whereabouts secret. But it’s a secret that tears her apart. Saving a realm of souls comes at the price of destroying the few she cares about.
In the final chapter of the Guardian of the Angels trilogy, Sylva, Attic, Marcus, and Alyse are locked in the battle between good and evil, right and wrong. And none of them are sure which side they’ll come out on in the end. And whether their hearts will remain intact.
Specialising in slow-burn romances where emotions reign, intimacy lingers, and chemistry sizzles—stories that leave you holding your breath and cheering for love, with just a splash of spice to sweeten the journey.
It's been a while since I finished this book, so I'm going to list the lasting impression...
Deeply unsatisfying ending with unnecessary deaths and sex riddled with shame.
The ending of the battle between heaven/hell dichotomy was not fulfilling, as Sylva's moment of glory was not using her incredible powers but sacrificing herself.
A recurring theme of the book pointed out how the Furies used loved ones as emotional blackmail, and whether immunity to love really made a person stronger or weaker in the long run. According to this, weaker. I just was not a fan. That is not a happy ending, folks.
I suggest stopping this series after Veined. The drama of the star crossed love affair is not worth it, the villains less interesting over time, and the battle far too predictable and convenient. This book squanders the potential of Slyva and this world. I would love to see Sunday revisit this universe with an m/m storyline, since her work only gets better and better.
Everything has come down to this. The final battle is about to begin. No one is safe and everything has a price. One key in enemy's hands, another kept secret and the last unknown. As both sides fight for the advantage, emotions run high as the arranged marriage moves closer. Can anyone survive the upcoming war with their bodies, heart and souls intact?
Fast-paced, action-packed and heart-wrenching. I couldn't wait for this book to come out. It's easily one of my favorite trilogies! The story is absolutely amazing. There are so many twists and turns leaving you breathless to the very end. I couldn't put this book down if I wanted to. You will not be disappointed in this epic conclusion! The characters' journey comes to an end and leads to a showdown that you don't want to miss! I sat on the edge of my seat the whole time and prayed for a HEA.
Sylva was the greatest underdog in this entire 3 book series. The one thing I wish was for the author (Anyta) to have expanded upon Sylvas training since it seemed that she suddenly and magically gained her powers and abilities without any explanations of how she all of a sudden gained these skills from one book to the next. A Real page turner. Read the entire series in about 4 days and recommend it highly. All the characters were necessary and fit into the story fantastic. Great job!
This third book in the series ties up all the loose ends, and gives us an HEA for most characters. However, the pace was rushed, things got more and more complex leading to the climax, and I just did not understand all the solutions. Typos: reigned (ruled) was twice used for reined (slowed), an American character says to "make sure it didn't get lost in the post" (when we would say "mail"), vice (bad habit) is used for vise (clamp), grinded used for ground, crumbled for crumpled, slinked for slunk, Mom and Dad inconsistently capitalized.
Wow....all of that for that ending? Nothing else? Nothing more? The struggle is real. I need closure. I needed MORE! Dear God, I believe I have officially lost faith.
Boy... was I excited for the finale of this series. Veined (book 1) was a love story between Sylva, and Attic. Leathed (book 2) was more of Sylva adapting to her new life as a Guardian along with the elements of good vs evil, and Phoenixed (book 3) was suppose to bring everything full circle... did Ache prevail, or did the guardians ultimately secure the gates to Eirene.....
There were so many twists in this book. We were introduced to Queen Meyer in book 2, but really got to see her true colors in "Phoenixed", and they were not pretty. She reminded me of Alma Coin from "the Hunger Games", wanting all the power, and not caring who or what she sacrificed to get it. I wanted to stab her in the eyeballs half way through when she tricked Attic and Leah.
Marcus' relationship progresses with Dimitri, and unlike books 1&2, Marcus got to narrate some of this book, which I think was a good move. I do have to mention that there was a sexual encounter between Marcus and Dimitri that I wasn't prepared for, and to be honest DID NOT enjoy reading (think m/m erotica).
Sylva learns more about her powers, and ultimately taps into them, even though towards the end she becomes at complete odds with Queen Meyer (big surprise....)
I think the ending was ultimately a hea, but there were too many elements that weren't explained properly. It was to the point that I was having to re-read parts 2-3 times because I wasn't understanding how certain things came to be. I ultimately feel like the ending was not well thought out and rushed. Even though love prevailed, I just feel like the end results were never introduced as even being an option to begin with. Yes, it was a HUGE unexpected twist at the end, but for me it kinda crashed the entire purpose of what good and evil represented throughout all the books.
Don't get me wrong, I really liked this series, and fell in love with the characters, and this whole world the author created.
I give this book 3 1/2 stars, and the series as a whole 4 stars.
Ahh, the year of the finale. It has begun. That’s two series down, 210 to go. The ending was wonderful. It wasn’t rushed and it didn’t leave any loose ends, two things that I usually find when finishing a series. It just felt right to me. I was sad to see it end but happy that it didn’t disappoint.
Let’s talk about the POV’s in this book. There was a big difference this time around. It was like she went willy-nilly with them, I felt I was reading first person and third person multiple or third person omniscient. It got a little confusing but once I realized what she was doing I rolled with it and the story was enhanced because of it. Now, I wish I could have read the whole series like this one. I feel like I missed out on their voices in the other books.
The bad guys were bad and the world building of the underworld was detailed and vibrant. And can I say that I didn’t figure out the betrayer till the last minute, and even then wasn’t sure until it was confirmed! Good job on that Mrs. Sunday.
On a side note, it was so much fun to watch Oli and Dylan’s relationship progress. They were so cute to watch!
Oh and I noticed the art reference from book one, kudos for throwing that in there!
Favorite Quotes:
But he wasn’t sure that right and wrong existed anymore. If they did, they were thin lines separated by a wide sea of gray. Richard Lark had spoken wisely about that. Life was only decisions. Some better than others, but none perfect.
My room looked like it had been thrown into a food processor and set on high. Covered in feathers, peppered with glass, and dripping with trails of smeared blood as if a corpse had been dragged into the corner.
“Before we ride, Lark.” he said seriously, holding my gaze, “you need to understand something.” I grinned. “Let me guess. Don’t act unless I’m willing to pay the price?” “Yes.” Attic dipped his head and our lips brushed. “And I will always act for you, because you will always be worth the price.”
Would have NEVER guessed the end! Craziness! I absolutely loved these books and I'm sad that the journey is over... It's a gripper at the end; you won't be able to guess many of the outcomes and like I said the ending is just nuts! :) will be seeking out more books from this author.
This was a good unexpected ending to the series. It kept me interested through out all three books. Some of the characters were a little flat, but over all the two protagonists kept me interested and entertained.
