Santeria Habitat #3

Wildfire Gospel

Rate this book
In the third volume of the Habitat series, Lanore Vesta must now destroy her old beliefs of nonviolence. Flames of revenge fuel her movements forward. Too many of her loved ones have died, and she's done shedding tears. Sadly, she can't boil Dante's blood just yet. He has the resources to help her and her friend Zulu, as discovering Mother Earth's whereabouts is proving more difficult than expected. She's not what they thought she was. She's something more. Meanwhile, Lanore's father is missing. Normally, that wouldn't trigger stress, but whispers are spreading around the habitat like a wildfire. A Demon with feline eyes and fire-spotted cheetah skin appeared at the Masquerade Ball right after MeShack was killed. Lanore hopes her father will have some answers. Is this Demon only a coincidence? Is Lanore just grasping at a last bit of hope that somehow the Were-cheetah MeShack is alive, or should she face the truth of his death?

Kenya Wright wrote her first novel during her third year at UM Law school. She dropped out a month after the release and never looked back.

Words are power,
and Kenya wants to be the greatest wizard that ever lived.

It's an audacity to inspire
and teach the healing of love through arousal.

It's this crazy idea that love
can not only help a reader escape,
but the story can also teach the person
about being human,
while making them laugh,
cry,
and hot for more sex.

Since this book isn't out yet I won't be posting any spoilers (even though I freakin' want to.) I've decided that instead of writing a full on review, I'm going to let the gifs speak for me.
This is how I felt at the end of the last book.

How I felt reading Wildfire Gospel.

My overall final reaction:

Kenya Wright is an evil mastermind. This book is EVERYTHING I wanted it to be, and at the same time it was nothing I expected.
So go and read it...if not, I will get Lanore to burn you. ;)

Love triangles make me want to pull my hair out. From the very beginning of this series, I have been completely and totally Team Zulu. He has always been so compelling. Powerful. Sexy. Enigmatic. And completely amazing with Lenore. Then there is MeShack, the man-whore who broke her heart; the guy that can’t keep it in his pants for five minutes. Yet, I saw the writing on the wall back in Fire Baptized. MeShack grew up with Lenore. They share years of common history and love. No matter what roundabout fashion we have to get there, that’s the guy who always gets the girl. And he does not deserve the girl.

In cases such as these, there are not many ways to level the playing field. The author can either kill off the great boyfriend (a la Kim Harrison) –or pull some character assassination out of left field (ie. Jess Haines.) I’m sure there have always been some MeShack fans out there. But with things as they were, there was no viable way to discount Zulu, so we must look to the options above.

At the end of The Burning Bush, MeShack died. I celebrated. I knew that was likely a fake-out, but I let myself hold out hope that the love triangle was over and Kenya Wright had totally proven me wrong and actually went the way I wanted. Nope.

We find out on page one that MeShack is alive. I’m not going to spoil the how’s and why’s of it, but he is no longer the man he was. Half the book is written in his POV, and follows his journey as he struggles to understand how he has changed and deal with it. The other half follows Lenore as she seeks vengeance for what happened to him and Cassie –as her relationship with Zulu grows even more intense.

I knew at the 21% mark how it was all going to play out. I hoped I was wrong. I wasn’t. My worst fears were confirmed 68% in. I hated that Wright went in this direction, but I am also mad at myself because I should have known better. I did know better. But it upset me all the same. I almost quit reading the book… which says a lot, because this is a really good series. I was that pissed off.

I’m glad I didn’t stop reading. Things didn’t wrap up quite as tidy as they could have and that lets me (foolishly) hope the end-game isn’t really a foregone conclusion. Aside from that, there is some cool stuff going on. If you’re not all about the relationships, or if you’re not in the Zulu camp, the book will likely rock your socks off. As with the previous installments, the story is layered and smart; the action is intense (though gory at times); and the heat level is molten hot. Wright knows how to deliver in her love scenes.

Did I give it all away? Did I say anything of value here? (*sigh*) I don’t know. Wright has obviously done something right, in that I care so much about these characters. But I don’t like being sucker punched either. — I will read the next book, but I don’t have the excited joy going on that I had the last two times around.

First I love this series the whole concept and use of religion i love it!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been team MeShack since the caged view that's actually when i fell in love him and i loved him even more after this book which i felt finally gave us a look into him and who he was. Graham is the BEST LOVE HIM. I'm kinda sad though because i feel like it won't go in Meshack's favor and i don't even wanna think about how it's going to end!!!! I liked Zulu so much less this book i don't know. I hate to say it but i didn't care for Lanore much either she's still holding a grudge against Meshack for doing what's in his nature but was quick to forgive Zulu i didn't get it like. I didn't get Zulu being mad at Meshack for disrespecting his claim when he did the same thing to Meshack but that was just. I look forward to the continuation of the series even though my heart is all twisted up with nervousness. Keep up the great work!!

It's almost 4am, and I am so thrilled that I had a chance to read this awesome book. With all of the Urban Fantasy books on the market, it's a rare feat to find an author who is not only passionate about her craft, but highly inventive as well.

The only thing that I hated about reading this book, is that I am going to have to wait until June to read the next installment.

If you have not had a chance to read Fire Baptized (Santeria Habitat, #1) by Kenya Wright & The Burning Bush (Santeria Habitat, #2) by Kenya Wright , then you are doing yourself a serious disservice, because overall, this Sista is a hidden treasure, who has been seriously underestimated.

Giving this one: 5 Smoking Stars...

AWESOME

So, I waited until I read all three books in the habitat series before posting a review. I LOVE THEM!!! Lenora is still growing on me. I hope there is more growth with her as the series progresses. She is too impulsive and at times, just stupid. She's a hard read. I hope there is growth bc I would hate for a really great series to be ruined bc the primary character is too stupid to function. Lenora is frustrating but there is hope. I love Meshack!!!!!. I almost lost it when he had his accident but he bounced back. I cannot wait to see how his character evolves. I cannot wait to see what powers he will possess and I hope he can shift again. That would be awesome!!!!! I'm also liking Graham. His character is a trip. I cannot wait to see what powers he actually has. It is going to be interesting to see how he and Lenora learn how to adjust to one another bc she is going to need him to teach her about who she is as she evolves. I just hope she starts to mature bc I would really hate to stop reading a series bc the primary character remained immature, but I have done it before and will do it again. I just hope I won't have to bc I am LOVING this series and I want to keep falling in love so please, KW, dnt ruin this for me. I have been waiting for something new and fresh to dive into and you delivered. THANK YOU!!!! So please dnt ruin this for me. Anywho, Team MeShack all the way!!!!! Anywho, Zulu is damaged but in that lies his Beauty and strength and weakness. His evolution is going to be awesome if he can step back from the ledge. I'm also excited about Angel. I hope she manages to transition and realize her own greatness. The supporting cast are superb. I cannot wait for Mother Earth and Dante and the Habitat police to get their comeuppance. Anywho, please dnt make us wait too long before another installment. And if you haven't figured it out yet, I highly recommend this series. I'm going to stop with my review bc I dnt want to throw out anymore spoilers. Happy Reading y'all!!!

Cliffhanger ending.
Seems the series has been abandoned. The first two books were published 2012 & this book in 2014. All end in cliffhangers.

The series was addictive & I quickly fell in love with all the characters & world. It could easily be the best series I discovered this year, If not for the fact it’s incomplete & with no future book in sight. Such a shame.

What a difference a day makes ... who knew the day after the masquerade ball would bring about so many changes and scattering our intrepid hero troops in different directions. Santeria is in turns aflame, deserted and overcrowded in the aftermath of the abrupt ending of the ball. Also, I confess, this is the first book that had me gasping 'Oh! My! God! on page one.

Together, Lanore, Angel and Zulu surprisingly find themselves striking a deal with everybody's favorite arch enemy, Dante, and coming out ahead. Lanore and Zulu share a secret that shock Angel when she finds out and intrigues Dante as he tries to use it to his benefit. Lanore finds out what happened to Lanore in her absence. Zulu flexes his muscle and exhibits previously unseen powers.

MeShack is shocked with how he left the ball and is even more shocked as he tries to get help from Lanore's father Graham. He is a special kind of special our Graham. He's powerful and insane. If he was a megalomaniac he'd be predictable too but nope, Graham's forgetful from too many dead brain cells instead.

This emotional roller coaster of a read exposes more about the habitats and broadens the canvas of the read. Zulu reverted to his book one character once again so obviously (to me at any rate), strong, he overshadows and dominates Lanore's contributions. Comparing the male leads MeShack is more an alpha partner and while Zulu is more an uber alpha property owner.

The more I read in this series, the more I appreciate it. Once again it's hard to review a read, determined to not spoil it for others yet tell you what happened! The vivid characters and intricate read is more than the sum of its parts. The wait between releases is this reader's own personal Tantalus (or Tartarus, if you prefer).

I was hesitant to finish this book, I left it @ 50% for a while, since there was no sequel in sight and it looked like there was a lot more story to tell. Grr and I was right. Talk about leaving someone hanging'!
The characters in this world are awesome for the most part and the world is very interesting since it really isn't too much like other books in this genre. One of the best things is how it is labeled interracial, but that fact isn't rammed down the reader's throat. I honestly didn't think much about it, except to wonder wtf anyone would want dreadlocks because they would drive me crazy. What the author created with bits and pieces of other types of characters/beings from the plethora of UF/PNR books out there trumped race for me anyway as they were so extremely colorful and different in the first place.
I really loved her background for demons, that or it is just Graham who is awesome. His fixation for skin is lol worthy at times. The bedtime story MeShack started to tell ... was very interesting. It also had me bemoaning the fact that the next book wasn’t already available. The twist at the end of the book ... while I had thought about it in the back of my head it was still a big surprise for me. It also reminded me that I don’t care much for love triangles, lol. This one has been a really good angst roller coaster though and I enjoyed it for the most part.
Just as Lanore was figuring stuff out the book ended, it seemed like that to me anyway. Just as Zulu’s past was starting to be exposed and MeShack was getting used to his new life, including his limitations....
I would really like the next book please and thank you.

This series just gets better and better. I think this was the longest book in the series but it never felt like it dragged or needed to be shorten. Wildfire Gospel was filled with twists and turns and unexpected bumps in the road.

The Good: Usually around the third or fourth book most authors provide a filler book. Nothing really happens, just a lot of set up for the next couple of books in the series. Well that's not true for Wildfire Gospel. The characters are getting more complex with each book, the story is getting more crazy (in a good way), and my loyalties are all over the place. The book provided insight into how some of the characters tick and how the characters came to be.

The Bad: Sometimes I wanted the characters to just stop, breathe, and think before they say or do something. For some smart people, they can do some stupid things and I wanted to go up to them slap them on the head and say, "Seriously, do you think that's a good idea?" This is not a standalone book. You need to read the first two books to understand all the action that happens in WG.

The Extra: GRAHAM! I want a Graham in my life.... not as my dad though.

Kenya Wright knows how to write characters that you wish you knew in your life.

I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for this fabulous book, and I can truly say that Kenya Wright is brilliant when it comes to creating a great story/plot. Lanore's life has never been easy, but you can definitely bet that every reader would love to be in her shoes whether to get a taste of the action in the bedroom or on the battlefield. This book took the reader on a roller-coaster ride with new characters and old favorites. I also liked the new POV that was added; it took the storytelling to a whole new level. That being said when reading, you look for a book that will take you somewhere you have never been before, and Ms. Wright is a genius when it comes to writing new and exciting things.

This was amazing! I am thoroughly pissed off at Zulu, she should not forgive him. I am so Team Meshack, after this stunt. And her surprise does not make me happy. How could you Kenya, How could you! I love Graham with is crazy self. You want to talk about laughing out loud. We need to eliminate Dante ASAP. I love this series, but if she doesn't end up with Meshack, I might not survive it. Where the hell is the next book!

Keeps Things Intriguing

*****Spoilers*****

Lanore is up to her eyeballs in stuff she doesn't understand, surrounded by people she's not sure she can trust, back and forth with her decisions, and gets heartbreak and news of a new life, not to mention MeShack's return from the not dead, and her dad becoming more of a player and things get really interesting. I'll say that it makes no sense to me why Lanore doesn't lean on her dad more and why she insists on doing most things by the seat of her pants. Powerful beings, trustworthy knowledge, and all the other stuff she has at her disposal, it seems she'll be much better off to actually use them. It's a frustrating read from that perspective alone. That she's voluntarily dealing with Dante and her negotiation skills suck, in my mind, she clearly got the short end of the stick. Not only that, but why she even negotiated with him in the first place and dropped two gems on him without getting anything in return I thought was just foolish.

In any case, Zulu sent the hitman after MeShack presumably because he didn't let himself shut down and wasn't in his right mind. Zulu didn't like MeShack constantly trying to get back into Lanore's good graces, particularly since neither male recognizes the other's claim. I'd be shocked if Lanore let Meshack back in since he cheated on her but only time will tell. She feels betrayed by Zulu but understands so there's that piece to consider as well.

Where’s book 4?

I really enjoyed the story. Though I’m not sold on Eleanor and Zulu’s relationship, I did like/am entertained by where things ended.
I Loved how deep the deceptions ran, and the somewhat convoluted relationship Eleanor has with her father. I also LOVE the world that the author has built, vividly the scenery is depicted along with how detailed the magic system seems to be.
With that reveal about Lenore at the end (The results to her tests)… I really wish there were more books in the series. I would love to see how everything played out. Also, how do so many people continue to let out breaths they didn’t realize they were holding?!

AAAAHHHHH!!!!! Was what I screamed when I realized this was not the end of the series. A lot was revealed about the characters in this book and I was left grasping for straws as to what will happen next when the book suddenly ended. Please Kenya Wright put me out of my misery and write the next book already.

Phenomenal!!

This is not my style of book but OMG I was hooked after the first book!!! The depth of the characters and the journeys they take held my attention for 4 days and I couldn’t do anything but read. I was very angry at the end of this one because there wasn’t another book for me to start. Can’t wait to see where this all goes!!!

I finally finished the series!!! And although I was excited about every twist and turn, I still feel a though 1 more book needed to be written to fill in all of the blanks that was left unopened. I don't want to give anything away, but I need to know how everything turned out for our main 3 characters. All-in-all, I loved everything about this series!!!!

Double Face

Okay Lanore, Zulu, Graham, and MeShack are at it again. MeShack and Graham are attempting to find who tried to kill him. Lanore and Zulu were trying to get out of Dante commune. When everything is figured out some relationships won't be the same. I don't understand where the next install is?

Book 3 of 3 but obviously not the end

Well, that ended on a cliffhanger. This three part (so far) series was entertaining. I enjoyed how the author world built as we went through the story. Instead of giving a lot of background at the beginning, readers discovered back story (and mythology) as some of the characters did. I hope there is more to come for these characters.

I was fascinated to learn more about MeShack's story as well as Zulu's. I didn't enjoy the plot twist at the very end although the signs were there from the start of the book. I hope the series continues as I would like to see how this ends. I am here for Lanore and MeShee lol
