Three’s company? No, three’s a charm! Three of Hearts features sexy trios who are not just falling into bed, they’re falling (or have already fallen) in love. These stories explore the threesome dynamic emotionally as well as sexually. Whether it’s a couple introducing a third person to their relationship for just one night of fun or for a lifetime commitment, or a woman torn between two lovers who decides not to choose, the focus of this collection of sexy stories is entirely on female pleasure.
OK, so all of my books are still on hold at the library. Apparently, my fellow readers are immensely enjoying their beach reads and I can't fault them for that. This title was readily available so why not have a little fun!
Three of Hearts: Erotic Romance For Women features sixteen short-stories that explore the threesome dynamic both emotionally and sexually. The genre is clearly erotica which is not my norm, but as evidenced by an average of my individual ratings in the spoiler section below (2.56 stars), I liked it well enough overall. None of the short-stories warranted five stars in my opinion, but it was definitely a very erotic collection. The titles are listed below along with my personal rating and a mini review for each (click on the spoiler).
I'm a firm believer in the idea that "more is better", and I'm a big fan of Kristina Wright's anthologies. So when I was asked to read a book that combines menage and her taste in erotica? Yes, please. Sign me up for that. I was definitely not left disappointed.
As is the case with most anthologies, there were some stories that I absolutely loved, and others that I didn't care for so much. But the great thing is that these are short stories, so it's easy to skip ones that you don't like in the future, or to read as many steamy scenes as you want, or as little, without fear of missing something or mixing up stories.
This book contains sixteen short stories that all focus on a central theme: threesomes. There's a good representation here of combinations of men and women, ensuring that there's at least a story for everyone.
I'll give a brief highlight, as always, of the three stories that I like best. These are in no real particular order, nor are they the only ones that I enjoyed, just the ones that stuck out the most. The first story that stood out to me was "Eve's Apple Red" by Angela Caperton. In this story, a wife notices a new shade of lipstick on her husband's collar and explores who it belongs to. The reason why I liked this one is because I am an avid hoarder and user of makeup, so I really liked that the wife used lipstick colors to further the writing about her relationship. It catered to my interests in that regard, and of course the sex was pretty delightful too. The second story that I enjoyed is called "Medley of Desire" by AJ Lyle. Within this story, a lovely lady's two boyfriends come together in unexpectedly blissful way. Why I liked this one is because of the well done sex. It was steamy and hot and probably my favorite erotic scene in the book. On a more personal level, I liked it because one of her men calls her kitten, and that's what my girlfriend calls me. So it heated me up in a more personal, specific sort of way. My final highlight is for the story called "A Thief in the Night" by Giselle Renarde. This sexy little number includes a masked man who comes in the middle of the night, ties up one partner and has fun with another. Quite bluntly; that's my fetish. The author captured the sexual tension and the fantasy and the desire really well, and that is a story I'd read again and again.
All in all, I think this is a great collection of erotica. This is a perfect book for those who are in menage relationships or who dream about them. While I didn't love every story, I enjoyed most of them and loved quite a few. This is obviously a book that contains adult themes like sex and BDSM, so naturally I recommend it to readers who are of age. Go forth and get this book, and may it serve as inspiration in your own boudoir.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.
When I see the names of Giselle Renarde, Tiffany Reisz, Rachel Kramer Bussel and Kristina Wright, it is a MUST read. This three of heart is not to be missed. Every type of combination for a threesome is explored. This is anthology which lives up to its name. Three hearts can be difficult at times but it is possible. Some of the stories are sweet and other are erotically hot. The ones which speak to me most are obviously the kinky ones with BDSM elements. There are so many good stories to pick from and not enough room to discuss all of them.
My favourite one is The Mistress in the Brat by Skylar Kade. Ms. Kade is a new to me author who pulls me into her sensual scenes. This is one where the ménage involves a bratty submissive who switches to be a mistress to another female submissive. One of my favourite combinations is M/F/f. This short story packs an amazing amount of detail showing how a submissive could be a switch and in what kind of scenario. In addition, it shows how the submissive is a sexual submissive in the bedroom and a hard ass female outside of it. Without giving out spoilers, the sex scene when the three come together is a perfect harmony between three. It is arousing and appealing.
A Thief in the Night by Ms. Renarde is super-hot. This theme revolves around a couple surprised by a third party for some bondage and voyeuristic fun. This slightly dub-con theme kicks up the heat as Ms. Renarde is so good at doing. The visuals of this and the excitement leap off the page. This fast paced sneaky sex is a fantasy many may have and wish to come true. The ending is sweet and funny. It also leaves the reader to fantasy a possible repeat with more kinky shenanigans.
Each of these stories are well written with a tightly woven beginning, middle and end. The variations in both sexual content and sexual partners makes it appealing to a wider audience of readers. For bisexual switches, every single story tripped my trigger one way or another. It's a full buffet with delicious tidbits to tantalize a pansexual. For those who want to sample a little bit of everything, this erotic collection is for you. Recommended to ménage lovers who want their cake and eat it too.
It's hard to review a bunch of short stories... so I'm just going to be generic about the overall feel of the book instead, otherwise I'd be here all day. I will say that the first few definitely kept my attention, and there were a few others that weren't too amazing, but still enjoyable. If you like short and sexy stories, there's a good chance you'd love reading the ones in Three of Hearts!
I'm not interested in reading woman on woman. So I skipped half of the stories. The first story and the one by Rachel, was the only 2 I liked, out of all of them.
***I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review, which was first published on book blog Will Read for Feels.
When it comes to erotica and romantica, menage isn’t for everyone, and even when you enjoy this subgenre, you might find it difficult to find reads you can really get behind. I know that’s the case for me, anyway. So I was intrigued by Cleis Press’s Three of Hearts anthology, edited by Kristina Wright, which promised a sampling of menage via a series of short stories by erotica writers, some of whom were known to me and others who were completely new.
Once I’d read it from start to finish, I had some mixed feelings. Some of the stories I read, I really enjoyed. Notably, stories by the writers I’d been familiar with prior to picking up this anthology were wins in my book: Tiffany Reisz’s “Movie Night,” Rachel Kramer Brussel’s “An Extra Pair of Eyes,” and Cheyenne Blue’s “What Happened in Denver.” I also found several seriously steamy reads whose authors I’m definitely going to take a note of: Angela Caperton’s “Eve’s Apple Red,” Annabeth Leong’s “Whose Anniversary Is It, Anyway?,” and Kathleen Tudor’s “Experience and Expectations” were among these.
There were also a few stories I just wasn’t into, although frankly, I feel like this was more a case of personal preference. I’ve noticed that I tend to gravitate toward stories with an element of romantica, or which feature committed relationships or the potential for one. But I also know people who really enjoy those one-night-stand types of stories, so I couldn’t fault the read for my own hangups, as it were.
And I really appreciated that the range on these stories (which featured both MMF and MFF scenes) made Three of Hearts a really great sampler into the genre; it’s a book I’d recommend to someone who has never read menage before, but is curious about it. While I don’t feel like any of the stories should’ve been left out of the volume, I did find myself wishing there had been additional stories involving a committed threesome, as most of the ones that showcased committed relationships featured a couple bringing in a third, rather than an established menage a trois.
Three of Hearts is a collection of erotic short stories, all revolving around the premise of threesomes. Each of the stories involve groupings of one woman and two men or two women and one man, which caters primarily to straight women and those with a bisexual leaning.
The stories cover quite a range, both with the relationships themselves and the sexual encounters. Relationship wise, some of the threesomes are one night stands, some are with at least two of the three being in a previous relationship, and in others all three members are in a committed and loving relationship. The sexual encounters themselves run from vanilla – or as vanilla as you can get in a threesome – to BDSM. The stories include hikers lost in the woods, business partners stuck sharing a hotel room, and a loving couple falling for the husband’s sexy Executive Producer to name a few.
As with all collections, it is likely that not every story will appeal to everyone’s tastes, but with 16 short stories readers are bound to find quite a few that tickle their fancy. While certainly not for everyone, Three of Hearts is a strong collection for readers interested in elevating their heart rate with something a little more exotic than your standard one-on-one erotica novel.
This is a wonderful collection of short stories focusing on the ménage a trios theme. If your a fan of threesomes you will really enjoy this collection. I initially bought this anthology solely for the Tiffany Reisz and Rachel Kramer Bussel short stories. Both were great but I also discovered some other authors I was not familiar with. Medley of Desires by A.J. Lyle, Drinking Games With Cowboys by Axa Lee, and Full Circle by Jade Melisande were some of my favourites. Something for everyone here. Would recommend.
