OMG. Be still my mf heart! This book sunk it's claws into me from page one and would not let me go! The first chapter is a prologue that sets the tone of the story perfectly. Immediately you feel for Samantha and you want to join her in her journey of revenge.
The FMC is the type of female character that I love. She has deep and painful wounds from her past that she's buried and has become a hellfire of a woman. Strong, independent, capable. She commands respect, she's fearless and to be honest probably feared by those that are not in her inner circle.
Omg when I tell you about Chris Casper. I'm melting over here! He's now one of my favorite book boyfriends of all time. YES. OF. ALL. TIME.
Green flags galore! He's a total cinnamon roll and lord, sexy as all get out. He's patient, supportive, loving, caring, he cooks, he reads to her. He knows how to communicate and he's romantic as hell, it's like it's in his blood.
The story is enchanting and takes you on a whirlwind romance that serves up all of the angst without miscommunication. Sure, there's secrets our FMC is keeping, but there is never a negative reaction from our MMC, he gets her. I can't express how comforting that is.
All the feels. This book evoked so much emotion out of me that I was laughing, crying, swooning, revolted, pining, and just experiencing all around joy in a mere 364 page book.
I knew right from the beginning that I was going to love this that at page 20 I went and immediately purchased the physical copy for my shelf. Brit Benson writes real, relatable romance. I never thought another book can top the Next Life duet for me. Macon and Lennon's story still lives rent free in my head to this day. But this book? This poignant, beautiful, emotional and unforgettable book? This was easily my top book of the year. The love I have for Sam and Chris's story is beyond words.
Now if you've read the duet, then you will definitely remember both Chris and especially Sam. Sam, Macon's ex situationship and now Lennon's best friend. One of the things things that made me fall in love with Sam in This Life and All the Rest was her fierce and unwavering support and love for Lennon. I just knew that still waters definitely run deep with her. She is so much more than she portrayed herself to be; first a party girl and then revealed as the daughter of a powerful senator.
Chris is Macon's best friend and was this unassuming secondary character in the first two books. He snuck up on me with a vengeance and completely stole the limelight in his own book. This man is absolute perfection. After a breakup that should for all intents and purposes leave him bitter and jaded, he's still the same Chris. He doesn't fight his growing feelings for Sam. And oh my god, the way he fought for Sam was EPIC. EPIC.
The man was the most perfect cinnamon roll with a heart of gold. And the icing on the cake? His filthy F-ing mouth. OMG this man!!
Need more convincing. Let me give you exhibit b.
I rest my case. Or as Lennon would say...
This, much like the duet, deals with some dark topics and I absolutely loved the way the author handled them. She spares the gory details but none of the feeling. You don't need to see vivid detail to feel the pain of Sam's past. The range of emotion this invoked in me was nothing short of incredible. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, and I loved every page of it.
This was one of the most incredible love stories I have ever read and Sam and Chris will stay with me forever. If you love sweet heroes with dirty mouths and fierce heroines who aren't afraid to slay their own dragons, this is an absolute must read.
And with Claire's book next? I'm practically giddy with anticipation.

I loved the duet, and I was anxious to get Sam and Casper's book after that little glimpse we got from Britt at the end of the last book.
To say this is NOT at all what I expected for their story is an understatement and I don't know how to feel about it. I feel like this was not really a love story but a story about Sam finding herself and her happiness but also revenge. A lot of revenge.
Casper and Sam's story did not continue past their little moment in the duet's ending but about a year and a half after and during that time Casper had dated and fallen in love with someone else and even went as far as to propose and only broke up because she refused to marry him.
SO TO ME - Casper would have married this girl he was madly in love with and Sam would have been just someone he ALMOST had a thing with. He does however admit that Sam was in the forefront of his mind after he started dating Sable because he hoped she would come back and give him a chance but it never happened so he moved on.
It bothered me.
Sam is however a strong woman and honestly the things she has endured all her life at the hands of her family, especially her father is devastating. Her road to revenge was subtle in the beginning but it became clearer and clearer. You wondered why she put up with everything when she HATED them, but you find out she has been working with the Feds to get all the info and dirty details to use as ammunition for their arrest and convictions.
Sam's father needed to get his son's misdeeds erased so he sold his 15-year-olds daughters’ virginity to a disgusting MUCH older judge to get it done.
The judge who ends up still being around her life and possibly has raped her on more than one occasion and now she is being forced to be around his disgusting son who also tries to sexually assault her. We also find out her father reimboursed her for the abortion she had at 15 so it is safe to assume the judge did not stop after that one night.
We get moments where Sam and Casper finally hook up, but her distance and lack of commitment causes them to go weeks and more without contact or seeing each other.
I understand why Sam needed her vengeance and I loved to see it all unfold but I feel like Casper and her story was a bit of an afterthought? We got great scenes with them, the push and pull. The fighting and the sex but I needed more romance.
I did like how much Casper fought for her and would not give up after all her petty remarks to him. She needed someone like him in her life and I'm glad they got their HEA.
Loved seeing Lennon and Macon live out their happily ever after and she is pregnant! I appreciated how much honesty there was about Macon and Sam's past and how it was not something that was held over their heads by anyone.
The ending where we are told Claire is going to get a book.....I am not sure how I feel about that. She is hated by everyone, and I am not sure if she deserves an HEA.

Her road to revenge was subtle in the beginning but it became clearer and clearer. You wondered why she put up with everything when she HATED them, but you find out she has been working with the Feds to get all the info and dirty details to use as ammunition for their arrest and convictions.
Sam's father needed to get his son's misdeeds erased so he sold his 15-year-olds daughters’ virginity to a disgusting MUCH older judge to get it done.
The judge who ends up still being around her life and possibly has raped her on more than one occasion and now she is being forced to be around his disgusting son who also tries to sexually assault her. We also find out her father reimboursed her for the abortion she had at 15 so it is safe to assume the judge did not stop after that one night.
We get moments where Sam and Casper finally hook up, but her distance and lack of commitment causes them to go weeks and more without contact or seeing each other.
I understand why Sam needed her vengeance and I loved to see it all unfold but I feel like Casper and her story was a bit of an afterthought? We got great scenes with them, the push and pull. The fighting and the sex but I needed more romance.
I did like how much Casper fought for her and would not give up after all her petty remarks to him. She needed someone like him in her life and I'm glad they got their HEA.
Loved seeing Lennon and Macon live out their happily ever after and she is pregnant! I appreciated how much honesty there was about Macon and Sam's past and how it was not something that was held over their heads by anyone.
The ending where we are told Claire is going to get a book.....I am not sure how I feel about that. She is hated by everyone, and I am not sure if she deserves an HEA.

im now completely obsessed w this authors writing and i maybe loved this one even more then the first two in this series !?!? if that's possible!? i haven't eyeball read much lately but i finished this in a day bc i could not put it down. it's a "we're from two different worlds" vibe. she's political royalty from a corrupt family. they've known each other for years. i adored everything about this book! and on top of the just incredible characters and story telling, the spice had me weak at the knees for real it was just SO well done wheeewwww
while it's technically a standalone, it's very closely connected to the duet before it, so i would recommend reading the other two first. it made me love these characters even more. and definitely check TW bc it deals with some heavy topics that can be hard to read!

I truly enjoyed reading Sam + Chris’s story! I love a good opposites attract 🖤
There was so much freaking emotion in this and a lot of really serious topics but it truly made me understand Sam’s past and her life so much more.
Chris is everything. I love that he always stuck up for Sam and was always there. “Let me be your peace.” 🥹 Also, HIM READING TO HER, OMG 🫠
I also really enjoyed Lennon and Sam’s friendship. It was so real. And the Dagger + Daisy thing was adorable!!

Sam and Chris’ story was addictive and amazing. The cold ice Princess who knows when to put on her mask and play a role finally met her match with Chris. He saw HER and accepted her as she was. He was such a good and sexy cinnamon roll hero with a dirty side. Their chemistry was superb.
I really liked how he slowly broke down her walls with the most simple yet beautiful gestures. It was difficult at times cause Sam didn’t make it easy.
The couple from the previous books Lennon and Macon were present and I just loved their dynamic with Sam and Chris. As a group but also just the women together and the men.
The Love You Fight For is a fabulous addition to the Next Life series. Sam finally found her true north and it’s well deserved.

Noooooo this can’t be over 😭😭😭 I CANT HANDLE IT. The hold this series has over me is no freaking joke.
Dare I say…….i think this was my favorite book of the series. Sam & Chris 4ever.
Christ was the hottest & ultimate cinnamon roll character with his dirty af mouth & pierced 🍆. I was head over heels for him. By far one of the best characters in the series!!!!! But Sam. Oh my god, Sam is the baddest of asses. God, she’s next level. I loved that she got a redemption arc in a way (it started in book 2 but still). She went through so much shit but boy was it worth it for the end result. She gave me Lana myers vibes from the mindf*ck series and I am beyond obsessed.
This story had its difficult moments (definitely read trigger warnings) but it shows how much Sam has to overcome and it makes her story that much better. Chris is not just the man she earns but he man she NEEDS. No matter how many times she says she can take care of herself, he’s always there for her & fighting for her, and gosh I just love them.

This was EVERYTHING! I’m at the point where I am sure Brit Benson cannot write a bad book. The love these two had for each other. The struggles Sam went through, the pain and trauma, the way she carried herself. She is a fucking force and I love her.
Chris, I adore that man. Oh my gosh, he is perfect and so perfect for Sam. My little heart was bursting at the seams with how much adoration he had for her, and no matter what, he was there. He was prepared to fight and not give up.
The he falls first was everything. The growth and acceptance Sam went through, accepting love, help and companionship. Plus I LOVED reading about Macon and Lennon too, I miss them.
This was such a great book. Loved it. Plus, Chris has a pierced 🍆 and a filthy mouth…just had to add that in this too haha.

To think I spent the entire first book of the Next Life duet hating Sam and now she's one of my all time favorite FMC.. just how!? She was so dang strong mentally, emotionally, physically. the way she just took it all and knew that it was because of the greater plan. I CANT. My heart actually shattered for Sam a few times but then she had Chris and I just knew these opposites were gonna attrack and when he called her princess I audibly swooned every time. Their dynamic together was perfection. They were truly a power couple and y'all. THE MOUTH ON THIS MAN. I was NOT prepared. like I didn't know Brit had this level of spice in here and I just simply wasn't ready it was SO PERFECT.

If you've read the first two books in the Next Life series, you know our heroine Sam, who became Lennon's best friend. We knew in the earlier books that Sam was definitely prickly and had a lot of darkness to her, but we could also see that there was way more going on beneath the surface.
Chris Casper's character was absolute perfection. If there was ever a man born for our heroine, it was this one! He was the calm to her storm, the peace to her chaos. The scenes where he tries to be there for her and gradually begins to melt her icy exterior totally melted my heart!
I tried to savor the experience of this book, but it was so good that l read it in less than I think 10 hours. I devoured every word. Sam and Chris's love and romance was the stuff of the greatest romance novels and basically the reason l'm a reader.

I fell hard and fast for him but I fell just as hard for Sam too. Honestly I don’t want to give much away but the girl is the perfect blend of fierce, soft and badass. Chris is the ultimate strong calm type (my faveeee)
The two of them coming together was sensational. Spice definitely spiced (the mouth on him 🫠) and I just loved every single thing.
I closed this book with the most perfect feeling of completeness for these characters. I just adored it.
10/10 recommend this whole series.

This was my favorite in this series so far. Sam grew on me during Macon and Lennon's duology and I was so excited to see that she got her own story. Chris "I like my missionary filthy" Casper is going on the book boyfriend list.

This is the third book in a series and while the first two books are a duet and must be read in order, you could probably read this one on it’s own. But then again, the duet was really freaking good so I say read all of them. This series was my introduction to Brit Benson and I’m so impressed! She writes really some emotional and devastating romance that I’m so into. I’ve been so curious about Sam and have been dying to hear her story and phew I wasn’t prepared for the upheaval and emotions it would bring. I’m not always big on angst but it worked for me here because there were some really good reasons for it and the author did such a good job at showcasing a variety of emotions in these characters. Sam is such a strong person and learning her backstory about broke me, such painful stuff. The patience Chris has with her was so sweet and tender, he’s patient and kind and the only man who could crack Sam’s tough exterior. Adored them together and their hard fought HEA was too good. Desiree Ketchum really brought the emotions in her portrayal of Sam, she was so good and the raw vulnerability in her voice gave me goosebumps at times. Austin Stone as Chris was also incredible, sometimes when a narrator laughs during a scene it’s kinda cringey and his deep chuckle was cute and sexy, again so good!

Chris Casper was as perfect as it gets when it comes to book boyfriends. He was the ultimate cinnamon roll. I loved the way he fell hard for Sam and was so protective and just there for her. I felt so bad whenever Sam would switch back to her cold demeanor just to push him away, but I'm glad he kept fighting for her. I really enjoyed this and being back in this world.

I am shocked by how much I loved this book but I truly did. It is my new favorite Brit Benson book. Something about it just sucked me in & had me finishing in 48 hours. Legit neglected my job.
We met both main characters in Macon & Lennon’s duet. Chris, the tattooed, blue collared, family man & Sam, the senator’s daughter & an ice princess with a very traumatic past. These two were polar opposites who no one would put together on paper but that’s why they worked so well.
Sam was closed off & standoffish. Chris was her strong & steady. I loved the way these two came together. Chris was so incredibly patient with Sam & I just loved him for it. I can sympathize with Sam’s need to close herself off in order to protect herself. Every single important person in her life let her down. You get glimpses of the true person she is through her friendship with Lennon & in the quiet moments she shared with Chris. I admire the way she was determined to do whatever it took to get the justice she so desperately deserved and needed in order to truly be happy in life. Even when she couldn’t accept & articulate how she felt the deep connection between her and Chris was always there- he knew it & he accepted her for how she is and let her come into their relationship- it was perfect. She was so strong & I LOVED how it played out in the end.
Also coffee as a meal? I am Sam, Sam is me - him cooking for her- swoon. The spice was 🔥🔥🔥
10/10 recommend. A top read for me this year!

Now, Chris and Sam my GOD i love them both so much, I love them together MORE.
Chris you sweet human being, the support and love he showed Sam throughout the book, not doubting her for a second or judging her for her fathers actions, ugh i love him
Sam, you badass, wonderful human being that has been put through so much for her entire life. Now, did I hate her in the first books? of COURSE, that was the whole MO of her character to begin with, but now with so much more understanding it makes sense why she was the way she was.
Seeing the HEA, the small bits n pieces of Lennon and Macon and how their relationship has blossomed is everything I want for follow on books. Loved it loved it loved it

Alright, I feel in the minority for my rating for this book. It was great, i really did enjoy it
however, some of the plot points just felt..... strange. Sams whole deal with her father? I get it, she was burning the empire from within etc etc, but a lot of it really felt ott, plus majority of Chris and Sams problems could've been solved if they just COMMUNICATED. I get there were things she didnt want to tell him for his safety or sanity or w/e, but plot points that went on for multiple chapters were completely unnecessary, if they had just t a l k e d.
Chris' family agenda against Sam? Again, i understand because of what her family did, but, it was her FAMILY, not her, that did those horrific things to his family. Not her. She was villainized for no reason, and I know that this whole thing gets resolved by the end of the book but come onnnnn, again the book could've been pages shorter this way. Not that it was a super long book to begin with, but it didn't need probably a good 50-100 pages within it.

I LOVE this book, the characters are so well written, they feel real.
I recommend reading 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝙽𝙴𝚇𝚃 𝙻𝙸𝙵𝙴 𝙳𝚄𝙴𝚃 by this author previous to reading this book as it has spoilers and you’ll understand Sam so much more deeply. She’s a wonderfully complex character, I appreciate her in this book so much more because I know her journey from the duet. Plus, the duet is absolutely AMAZING! It’s a top favorite of mine.
Samantha (Sam) comes across as a wealthy, ice queen who is harsh and uncaring. As her layers are peeled back she is quite a complicated, beautiful, tragic woman.
Chris is devoted to his family, happy working “blue collar” jobs in his hometown. He’s clever, caring and very talented. He’s quite s€xy as well.
The two have known each other since childhood, but have never been close. Sam has only been close to two people ever….And, they happen to be Chris’ best friend Macon and his best friends longtime love, Lennon. So, their lives do intersect over the years. (Macon and Lennon are the main characters from 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝙽𝙴𝚇𝚃 𝙻𝙸𝙵𝙴 𝙳𝚄𝙴𝚃.)
The two have an attraction, but Sam has serious intimacy issues so it’s very hot and cold with her.
She has a goal, some sort of secret plan that is a huge part of the story. It’s emotional, gritty and gripping.
Chris is so emotionally smart, he knows not to push her for too much even though he wants more with her.
This is an emotional story, it has wonderful, flawed characters; when they show strength and vulnerability it’s really beautiful.
They hook-up, they share moments of real emotion and then it gets ruined, mostly by Sam. It’s very on and off. Hot and cold. The times when real emotions and feelings get through are powerful.
I love the angst. The way it made me ache, yearn and want more for both characters.
I love the romance, I love the larger story that’s been in the works for Sam for awhile so very much. It’s dark, it’s tragic; the details are almost all off page and no descriptions are given in detail to the ab*se, etc..
I love the inclusion of Lennon and Macon from the duet, they are forever favorite characters of mine.
This is a fantastic story, it’s a beautiful romantic journey and a story of revenge and a satisfying emotional experience.

I’m still shook by how amazing this book was. Sometimes I sit here and just stare at a wall thinking about how good this book was.
Chris & Sam were an unlikely pairing, but the one we needed. When you read the first duet in this series, you end up loving Sam as the best friend and I honestly never thought she’d be getting a book but then she did…. And I loved every single second of it.
You learn a lot about Sam in the first two books, but this one, it makes your stomach drop sometimes. Please look up the TW before reading these books, but know that Brit does this couple and Sam’s story amazing justice.
This book is like small town boy meets political takedown. Sam is someone who’s greatly trusted by her father, the Senator now running for President, and does what the doting daughter should do to be unsuspecting. Though she’s a brilliant woman and anyone who knows her should know she’s not someone to mess with. I love every second of the political piece of this story and was rooting for Sam every second of the way.
Chris is EXACTLY what Sam needed. Every single moment of their interactions proved that Sam needed him. There were times I was questioning what Sam brought to him but every time she chose to come back to him instead of slinking away into a dark hole, I knew she was proving to Chris that he was worthy of love.
Cannot wait for the next book in this series 👀

Forever in my Brit Era. <3 I'm not sure how she singlehandedly made me go from hating a character to wanting to protect her at all costs, but she that in the Next Life Duet. Sam was a .... force to be reckoned with and I ended up absolutely loving her.
This story was so anticipated for me and it did not disappoint. I swear, she puts crack in her books because I literally was unable to look away from page one until the very last page. Sam...I don't think we truly understood everything that this poor girl went through in the Next Life Duet but it all comes out within these pages. And Chris....that man is absolute perfection and I will ALWAYS protect him. He's just....IT. Their HEA was so hard fought for and so well deserved.
I'm not gonna lie...I was completely giddy when I saw the nickname that I used for Claire in the book....Dysentery Claire is forever one of my most hated side characters and I am DYING for Brit to change my mind!
Brit will forever get all of my stars! So thankful for you and I will always aggressively force people to read you. Love youuuuuu!!!!

Chris Casperrrrr 🔥 and our ice queen Sam. I really enjoyed this book, and am very surprised to have enjoyed these two characters based on how they were portrayed in book 1.
Same lyrical writing by Brit, good spice ( that bourbon scene willl live rent free) and heartbreaking backstories. I wish we would have gotten Sam’s history earlier in the book than we did, I think it would have added to the overall story telling and helped us understand why Sam was so closed off and cold at times.
