I woke and found myself in an ancient temple- naked, alone and without any memory of my past. Even the name my status screen displays- "Valerian Hawkblade" is unfamiliar to me. It's a good name. A champion's name.
Fate joins me with a pair of adventurers searching the long abandoned temple. Nikita, a human warrior, and her friend Kazumi, an elven mage, are seeking a magic weapon to defeat Baron Skeg.
I pledge my aid in their quest for vengeance and together we begin a journey of leveling up, winning treasure, and upgrading our gear. Our path forward is dangerous as we battle savage beasts, restless undead, and formidable warriors.
As we adventure, I discover my rare ability as a Quester, which allows me to undertake divine Quests. These Quests promise bonus rewards for myself and my Quest Team, but they require courage and cunning to complete.
But will the bonuses be enough to level me up in time to defeat the powerful Baron?
The world I am in is full of magic, danger, and adventure with endless opportunities to win a place for myself. As I discover more about this mysterious world, I realize that it was no accident that I was awakened in the Temple of the Trickster God.

Decent story that loses a star because the relationships were handled in a very odd way. Val and Nikita are fine, she had a lot to deal with so I understand how their relationship has developed (although over a week passed at the end of the book after she got her vengeance and she still only developed to accepting a hug from Val). But the relationship between Val and Kazumi really stumps me. After they bonded, I think they only shared a bed 3 more times in the ensuing 500ish pages of the book, and that was when they had sex. They seemed to genuinely have feelings for each other, but if they weren't having sex then they slept in separate rooms. Or separately if they were on bedrolls around a fire. Youd expect with all the passion they have for each other during sex, they would at least want to share a bed most nights and cuddle. I think they only had a handful of displays of intimacy in that entire period as well. In a time period literally spanning months, they held hands a few times, kissed a few times, and maybe shared a smile and a wink a few times. Otherwise, it seems like they were completely hands off the whole rest of the time. It felt less like they were Bonded lovers and more like they were occasional f***-buddies. I also hope Val gets a bit more interesting. Right now he doesn't have his own class or element, he just gets a minor effect from the girls he bonds with, and that seems to exclusively work with his sword.
It’s alright. Not amazing, not great, but somewhat interesting.
The writing is decent. The entire ‘quest master’ character has high points and super low points from what I can see.
The high points?
The idea that praying to the gods can result in divine quests is an interesting concept. Having the rewards for the quest come from the divine as well is also interesting.
The low points-
-the inevitable and creepy setup of ‘bonded’ vs ‘ally’ quest members, where them having sex with their ‘bonded’ making a difference in stats and rewards.
-the weird imbalance in rewards given depending on gender. Even when both the dwarf male and the human female are both ‘allies’ and not ‘bonded female’ the rewards for the human and dwarf were wildly disproportionate.
The story and combat reads as somewhat stilted. The world building is incredibly awkward.
Everything is ‘determined by the gods’, including ‘random encounters’, in which seemingly anything can appear! They fight bandits, determining how many bandits there are by the reasoning of ‘there’s only 3-5 bandits in an encounter’.
The entire premise brings into question the idea of people having free will or agency in the world, and the author never addresses that either.
Overall it’s an ok read. If you’re feeling desperate for something fantasy, and you want some long winded sex scenes where the MC (of course) has an enormous schwanzstucker, the ‘very strong dwarf fighter’ is warf troping, and the elves are elvy, this is a good read for you.
I started out liking the MC and the character development and world building. But as the story progressed I had a difficult time fitting the MCs actions to his personality.
(Spoiler) An example is the way he is taking a quest to return something that was stollen, and does not hesitate to murder an opponent innocent guard. And later he straight up lies to local guards about an incident without any thought to there being possibility be truth magic that count catch him in the lie. They were even carrying around the axe of the murdered guard.
It started to feel like the MC was written like a video game player not present the n the world. I lost interest and abandoned the book at that point.
Very engaging story with interesting characters. I read it in one day
The MC, Val wakes up in a crypt and has no memory. Two female adventurers, Nikita and Kazumi meet up with him and they begin their adventures, forming a party. Though his memory is gone, he has martial skills, is fairly clever with good situational awareness. He soon takes on a leadership role, to Nikita's chagrin as she is on a mission. The team takes on various quests, before discovering that Val is a Quest Master.
All said its a decent adventure by the author of the of the Alex Khan series. I look forward to book two as well as book four of Alex Khan.
Val must survive his new life if only he could remember his past at least he has to companions .
Val awakes in a stone box enclosed on all sides he doesn't remember anything not even who he is . He only knows he has to get out in order to survive where ever he is . As he tries to get out he hears voices he tries to get their attention to get help . As he struggles out he discovers 2 women in front of him as he escapes out he asked where he's at he finds he's on a another world . His new life an adventure awaits him . recommend reading excellent book .
Litrpg novel that gives such a nice rpg-campaign feeling with random monsters and quests and loot. The harem part is not too much in the foreground. I like that. The background RPG system could get a bit of love and care. I would have liked a bit more level reward than just HP and Mana points - maybe some abilities or stats. Well the magicians at lease can learn higher spells. Anyway a good book - more please!
I really enjoyed this story. Different from others of this genre, the story is well written and thought out. The characters are well defined and their personalities fit the story. The intimate sections are part of the storyline and not just added for effect. Looking forward to the next book. Hope I dont have to wait too long
Generally competently written but gets bogged down in minutiae far too often. If nothing of significance happens in a journey between two towns, I don't need a full chapter describing all the non-significant things that happened blow-by-blow.
Good story, great concept. A bit too much of the repetitive 98% unchanged state sheet that is such a trap for authors in this genre. Otherwise well written.
Spoiler: Formalizing the quester/quest master concept is a nice improvement on the usual trope's.
I just discovered this author. I liked the first book I read of his, King of Christmas Town, a looked for more of his books. Although this is more of an adventure story it is just as captivating.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and entertaining. The story and characters were interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth checking out.
Another great beginning to what I expect will be a greatly enjoyable adventure!!! A nice slow progression for the MC and his team with lots of fun fantasy adventures throughout!!! I can't wait to read what comes next!!!
This book is amazing. I couldn't put it down. I always loved RPGs and books about them. Interesting take on a quest system and the characters are all likeable. Definitely a must read and I cannot wait for the sequel.
The world, its lore, and characters felt organic and had a natural depth to them. There are a lot of mysteries surrounding the main character that can provoke interest as to where he is from.
Really well done and a brilliant cast of characters, usual story of boy meets girl, but wonderful executed. An excellent read. Gary Challenger from Devon UK.
