Beyond phenomenal!!! 10/10 will read again whenever we get book 2. It has the perfect amount of spice and violence. Amazing descriptions I could literally picture the cathedral! Can't wait for the next!!!!
This book. THIS BOOK. I went into this book with the barest of bones. I knew only that there was a werewolf muscle mommy and that was it. LET ME TELL YOU there is so much to this book and I was not prepared to be knocked onto my ass by it's awesomeness. The creatures and monsters in this book and the mythos surrounding them is FASCINATING. Octavian is the villain you love to hate, but you also know has DEPTH. He was creepy in all the right ways and you never trust him, but you always feel like....maybe....everyone needs him? Like there's a piece of the puzzle you're missing. Because it's written in first person you are only given the information Izzy possesses. It's perfect and wonderfully executed. Izzy is a strong main character who is navigating a complicated and corrupt system. She is smart but not infallible - she learns painfully and her journey is not easy. The representation in this book, the characters, the plot, the spice - this book is everything. It is easy to give this a five star Rating. I need book 2 and I needed it yesterday.
Dark, depraved, and delicious: everything a vampire novel should be.
With cheeky chapter names, a vampire crime-boss king, werewolves, witches, fae, all morally grey characters, and a sapphic polyamorous relationship, They Came In The Night, Author Ravi Novais' debut paranormal romance is set in a magic-filled queernormative world. Fast-paced and with a thick plot surrounding found family, deep connections are made, limits are pushed, secrets are uncovered, blood is spilled, and ruling systems are challenged. Beautifully written, Novais weaves a tale following Izara, a fierce main character suddenly faced with an intensely complex situation and a concerning amount of expectations and obstacles she must overcome. There's no shortage of twists and intense moments. I laughed as hard as I cried!
I had the honor of receiving this as an ARC and can not wait to read the next book Author Novais writes!
Not sure what words I can say that will give justice to such an amazing novel.
The world that has been crafted is addictive. You can help but read the next page hungrily. I wish I could read this for the first time all over again!
Izara is our amazing FMC and is a complete baddie. Her development through this story is enough to put us on an emotional roller coaster. It’s a “step into your power” moment and I love it.
Being polyamorous in nature, each of Izara’s love interests play an important role in her development. She learns much about herself and is outspoken.
If you’re wanting a: - FMC switch with all the BDE you can find. - werewolf muscle mommy that screams “Rhea Ripley” energy - hot AF enby witch who’s a good little pet - big dom vampire who goes from saying “Princess” to “Princess” (ya know what I mean.) - werewolf Daddy who’ll knot your brains out - lots of smüt but also plot - dark urban fantasy
First of all, where do I sign up to be the center of a Raj/Celio sandwich. Because WHEW!
If you’re looking for a confident, powerful FMC who’s poly, pan, and up for just about anything - including facing down her evil father - Izzy is your girl. This book is body-positive, full of incredible queer rep, beautifully written, hilarious, and SPICY! I love every single character. They’re all morally grey at best, written with such care, and each one is unique and compelling.
We got werewolf muscle mommies with a strap, nonbinary sub witches, fully shifted werewolf primal chase scenes, buff vampires with attitude, you name it. Fast-paced, action-packed, and SO HOT.
A time was most definitely had😂👏 I was finally able to finish the eARC (bc this book is thiccc) and it’s so freaking good🤭 a why choose is going to get me every time and a PARANORMAL ONE AT THAT?! Of course I had to lock in🫡 The chemistry between these characters was HOT and the spice was top of the line🥵 The plot itself was also really interesting, WHICH IS WHY I WANNA KNOW IF THERE’S A BOOK TWO! I still have so many questions when it comes to the relationships as well as the plot itself😭 I had an absolutely blast, Izara was hilarious and my ranking of her partners is tbd bc they all had me in a chokehold in their own ways🥸😂
Well then…This book was something else. It’s a mixed bag of surprises! Expect angels, vampires, dhampirs, fae, wolves, , and witches. It was definitely dark and gruesome at some points. Highly recommend reading the TWs as there are quite a bunch of them. I like the mixed genders. There’s FFF and MF and the main FMC in this has multiple partners. The ending alludes to something, but I’m not sure what. 🤷🏻♀️
Overall, I’ve never read anything like this. I was quite surprised that I enjoyed it. I’m not used to reading pnr with so many different factions and I think it was done well in this book.
2.5 stars? I really love the bones of this story and the representation in it. And the spice is spicy. If I didn't already know I was bi, this book DEFINITELY would have left no question.(Except the puppy/barking thing - ick- and it does drag on a bit sometimes) The writing and the story are absolutely up my alley, but the execution could have used a little something.
It was incredibly difficult to relate to Izara as a character on any level besides horniness (hah). Actually, it was hard to even LIKE her. Maybe that comes with reading the first person perspective of someone who sees zero flaws in themselves despite being morally questionable and constantly making terrible/impulsive decisions that lead to others suffering for it. Maybe I'm just a snob who can't believe a 25 year old would still be acting like this? But Izzy is a bad person.
If this was meant to be written from the perspective of a narcissist, I'd say "spot on, ol', chap!"
I just wonder if it would have been better executed with multiple perspectives or even third person. I need to know WHY all these characters are so in love with her. It's hard to keep going sometimes when you can't really stand the main character/narrator.
First of all, I want to thank the author for sending this to me as an ARC. This why-choose paranormal romance had some of the best non-binary representation that I’ve ever seen. Not only that, but some of the best sapphic spicy scenes I’ve ever read as well. This story encompasses the complex relationship between an abusive parent and their estranged child. Izara hates her father while she also wants to please him. That duality was captured perfectly. Now this is a story with many love interests including a muscle mommy werewolf, a nonbinary witch, an alpha werewolf and an enemies-to-lovers vampire. This is a lot to like and plenty of HAWT spice! The only reason this is not a five star read is based on personal preference. I loved Izara’s personality and that she embraces her sexuality. But, I wish some of the relationships had more build up. Some of the romance is too insta-love-y for me personally. But aside from that, if you are hunting for a paranormal romance with lots of spice, an underground supernatural world, a complicated dynamic, found family, (I’m a SUCKER for found family) and really solid representation, then look no further!

...... . ..
Izara is deeply unlikeable. Literally from childhood she is so unlikeable that I didn't care if bad thing happened to her.
Her boyfriend and best friend? I wasn't sad she killed them; they also were deeply unlikeable and she barely liked them either.
If I wasn't an ARC reader I'd have DNF this book.
Maybe it being in 3rd person would have improved the experience, but I don't understand what anyone, including her own family, enjoys about Izara. Like, this would have been more interesting had she felt at home with the vampires rather than scorning them for...being exactly like her?
It felt....like an immature novel. There's promise but ultimately, the characters all do things that make no sense (why hide she's a vampire auntie?).
I wanted to like it, but ultimately I only liked the spice.

Seriously one of THE spiciest books I’ve read in a WHILE. I loved the openness/love between Izara and her whole group of lovers/friends! If you’re into books with STRONG, BADASS, sassy-as-hell FMC’s you will LOVE this book!
I will say that there were times where I was slightly confused with Izara’s plans (although her plans DID kick-ass), and I wish we could get more of a view of her BRILLIANT mind working… not just her sexy thoughts of her harem.
Overall a great book, and I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK 2, but I hope we get to see more of this AMAZING group working together for Aramore, and not just 😏”working” together!
This was my first all inclusive reading, and after the prologue I was impressed. Izzy is definitely sex positive and so confident! Which is why it lost a star for me there. Sometimes her confidence was tooo much for my liking. But, good for her lol There was great character development, although I wish there was more build up to her “discovery” with Josh and Noelle.
OMG!!! Can we talk about the confessional scene with Tatum 🥵 “Is that a fucking dragon?” !!!!!!! 😻🖤 I can’t wait for the next book, because there better be! 🦇
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

Ack! The final line killed me! I have to wait for the next one?! Obviously I enjoyed the book. The story was engrossing and ambitious. I enjoyed the characters and their interactions. I will say that it’s not a perfect book. There are some pacing and plot elements that break up the story somewhat. I almost felt like the spicy scenes dragged out the story enough that the book could have been broken in 2 to get more plot/character growth into the in between scenes. The spice was spicy, lots of representation that was seamlessly incorporated.
This book started out with a typical beginning. But. This is anything but typical. I promise. The character and world building is amazing. The story is chefs kiss. I promise, you’ll want the next book. I promise you.
I’m so grateful I took my time with this. I cannot WAIT for the next in this series!!!!
Vampires. Werewolves. Fey. Witches. Magic. Blood sharing. And the spice is top tier.
Ravi is an auto-buy author for me. I can't tell you which character is my favorite. The world building, the romance, the spice, and the plot are immaculate. I devoured this story so fast and cannot wait to read it again. I need the paperback.
This book is for you if you like: why-choose with a diverse queer cast of love interests, fat fmc's, monsters who are monsters in your dark romance.
Very gorey, very steamy and sometimes both at the same time, I truly enjoyed the book. It was a wild ride and did a good job of providing a balance of sex scenes to actual story. It may have leaned more towards the sex, but I am certainly not complaining about that. Overall, I liked the writing style and the POV of the character was fun.
Really solid first book in this series! I'm excited to read more! I think that the author does a really great job writing action scenes and creating characters with interesting back stories. I was really engaged in the book while reading and looked forward to what was going to happen in each chapter. Would highly recommend this book to paranormal romance or urban fantasy lovers.
This is not your average why choose faerie smut. A good sense of humour and very dark characters, with a healthy (or let’s be real, probably unhealthy) dose of BDSM. Please beware of trigger warnings, this is not for the faint of heart!
THIS BOOK!! FANGtastically Sexy, Dark, and Delicious. I LOVED it!
This story completely blew me away. It’s sexy, decadent, and intensely dark. Absolutely addictive, and I was not prepared. The world-building is stunning, gritty, gory, and filled with action. The queer and poly representation is top-tier, and the spice is HOT! Chef kiss with a Michelin star (fed me well). Izara is an absolute powerhouse of a main character, but that is not to say she was the only one stealing the show. All the characters were amazing, even the villains. There are only a few series where I can say I love every character, and this one just joined that list.
Is everything I crave in a dark paranormal romance: messy politics, dangerous liaisons, shocking twists, and a world I want to drown in. It’s bold, it’s addictive and easy to get lost in. Book two can’t come fast enough; I am ready for more.
