As someone seriously studying Thai as a second language, I found this book to be both helpful and frustrating. For what it is, it was helpful, but it was only helpful WITH additional help from my friends. I would have embarrassed myself so many times had I simply went with the words taught in the book. Why? Because a lot of the words Becker uses are old words that are not common vernacular anymore, and sometimes her translation doesn't even come close to how a word is really used in Thai. Again, if you are using this book with Thai friends helping you study, or with a Thai teacher, it can be helpful, but ห้ามเรียนคนเดียว

Wonderful book. Very approachable. Has a few small errors that got missed during editing, but overall very reliable. As usual Benjawan delivers a great course.

There are hardly any intermediate textbooks around for Thai so kudos to Paiboon for even making this book, they seem to be the only ones who bother to make books for learners who want to know more than just the basics.

It assumes you know basic Thai already, either from Becker's first book or books similar to Smyth's 'Teach Yourself Thai'. You should know how to read & write Thai script.

This book is an improvement from Becker's first book in that it actually explains new grammar in a more formal manner, one of my complaints about her first book was the lack of formal grammar explanations. Another improvement is the addition of some cultural information.
Unfortunately 'Thai for Intermediate Learners' is not an improvement from the first book when it comes to grammar exercises, all you get is a few translations to do. However I can forgive this since in the introduction of the book Becker writes that this book does focus on reading.

Like the first book the vocablary is aimed at practical use, things that should be useful to you when you are in Thailand.

Overall I really like the book, add a few grammar exercises and it would have been perfect.
