Rate this book
Two lovers discover their past life together in Victorian England- and it's even hotter than their present one.

After years dedicated to business, lawyer Meredith Sinclair is having the wildest ride of her life. James Hamilton is everything she respects, admires, and desires in a man. So when James makes her the most indecent proposition she's ever heard, Meredith can't resist. That night, as he sends shocks of desire through Meredith's naked body with a feather she's treasured all her life, Meredith is overcome with something an unknown and consuming fear.

Then come the visions of Victorian England, of herself being sold to strangers for their sexual desires. Of James, a lord bound by duty. And of both of them-star-crossed lovers who must make amends with a strange and tumultuous past if they can ever hope for a future together.

Looks like I am in the minority with this one...but, I liked it! I would really say it is a 3.5 star rating, but I enjoyed it and read it quickly so I bumped it up.

I thought the idea was clever and something a little different from the usual reads of late...One aspect that I didn't really like was the last flashback. I suppose it was necessary b/c it defined the meaning behind "The Feather", but I felt that it was a bit rushed and I had to re-read sentences in that section to make sure I was understanding the gist of it. That part may have been better if it had been expanded a bit.

Although I wanted everything to be wrapped up in a pretty little bow for Margaret and James, I was glad it wasn't so neat--it was more "realistic" that way. Did she really think that this man of stature would ever take her hand in marriage? She was delusional to think he would ever put her before his title in society...everyone would always see her as a whore.

Did I think the characters were exceptionally developed? No. Did I think there was room for improvement? Yes. I think I enjoyed it b/c I read it at the right time and was in the mood for hot sex and a torrid affair and that is exactly what I got.

Can you really find your soul mate again? Even after death?

I truly hope so!

The Feather took me completely by surprise.

I loved the reincarnated aspect! At first I was disappointed to leave the story of James and Meredith because I was really liking them.

I found that I loved Margaret and Claymore just as much if not more.

I was afraid I would be disappointed going back to Mer and James but I think the whole thing flowed really well for me and knowing the past connection made me much more connected to them. I really really loved it.

If you believe in destiny, love hot dirty talking men this may be the book for you.

*Warning*

The last flash back scene which deals with the origin of the feather was a bit harsh (a m/m rape scene) Although it is not explicit it is still upsetting.

The concept of this story was very "clever" which I did appreciate. Being a "shorter" story, I think rushed the story in certain places and the book could have benefitted from being a little longer.

The sex....Very Hot!
The characters...Likeable, but a little dull

Overall...Good book, not great.

There was a lot of potential here, but the story felt choppy. I had to go back and read portions twice, some time three times before I could tell what the heck was going on.

Now if you are looking for a steamy, nasty, dirty sex fest, then this is your book!

The end was rushed, like the author was getting close to her word limit. Too bad I cannot rate it on the sex alone....

I had read a previous book by this author and really liked it, and was looking forward to this one, sadly this one fell very flat and I am not sure why I kept reading.

It started out really good, Meredith and James were working together, each one on a different side of 2 companies that were merging together. One night they ended up in bed together, for both it was a night to remember. It is here that the book takes a down turn, we skip from a very hot sex scene and find 2 random people on Victorian England. It takes a while to realize that it is the same couple in a previous life, one where the sex is just as hot, and they fall in love, but their social stations are such that they can not be wholly together. We pop back to the present and James feel betrayed by Meredith as she is calling another man's name, his from the previous life. Things happen and they end up split up. Meredith experiences another life, one where there are issues again. In the end they end up together, but you don't really care.

So much of the story was hard to believe, mostly because we flitted between all these people, but they were the same people with the same issues. I found that the sex scenes were very crude, no matter what people they were.

I will continue to check out other books from this author, but not rush out to get them.

I enjoy a good spicy scene once in a while (thanks Mom for all those illicitly-read copies of your steamy 70's books), but I prefer at least a 70-30 split on plot vs sex. This was unrelenting sex with a badly written plot sparsely sprinkled in. I thought the premise was interesting but the execution was poorly done.

May I have sex as amazing as depicted in this book...

Phew, this book was a lot. Meredith and James, two lawyers on opposing sides of a merger, were hot and heavy from the start, which is unusual in a romance novel. Then Meredith has a vision of them in a past life in 1844 London. I loved this story, and if the novel had just been that story, this book would have gotten 5 stars from me.

I thought the story of an earl/future duke fighting his forbidden love and attraction for a young prostitute was so romantic and heart-wrenching because they were perfect for each other, but their social classes wrenched them apart. :/ Margaret was so selfless and passionate in her love; she reminded me a lot of myself. I thought she was a Venus in Pisces like me. On the other hand, Gavin Claymore was so darkly dominant, tortured, beholden to his aristocratic duties and family, but so sinfully sexy and intoxicating in bed. I think he was a Mars in Scorpio with strong 8th-house energy (what Cherry, Meredith's friend in the present, says about her.) Oh yeah, I loved that this book had astrology references :)

When Cherry said something along the lines of "Wait, find me his birth time so I can run the charts [and compare them for compatibility," I found myself in a novel.

Back in the present, it frustrated me that Meredith wouldn't come clean about them having a strong past life connection and how James had broken her heart in their past life. Yes, it sounded ridiculous, but he wanted an explanation and was in love with her.

I do wonder what time the previous life between Orianna and Kollshein (spelling?) was.

The only reason this book didn't receive 5 stars was because the time jumps from the present to the past and back again were disjointed. I'm surprised that more effort (editing) and pages weren't put into a novel published by Berkeley... Amazon says it's 304 pages, but the ebook I bought from B & N was only 176 pages. A delicious 176 pages too...

(Also, I will never buy an ebook from Barnes & Noble again. Nook online is terrible; I had to keep logging in to read the story. I received a $25 B & N gift card for my 24th birthday, so I bought this ebook with the remaining funds and paid the rest. I wished the woman who bought me the gift card had just bought an Amazon card like she usually does. But anyway, I'm grateful and glad I finally bought this book, something that's been sitting on my to-read list for so long.)

I have to check out more by Red Garnier because damn, this book was scorching ;)

I'd forgotten how Red Garnier/the romance genre had this period of "magical realism" and... stuff.

This ... I think I actually preferred the weird ghost story types? (Also not too too long ago I feel like I read a similar story, that was actually published well after this one ... but - neither were so much my cuppa.)

I wasn't really interested in the BDSM especially desperate girl/street prostitute mistress angle ...
Well written, obviously sexy, but just not my thing.

This book was ok, sort of strange.
When I first started "The Feather" I didn't read any reviews or really even the back cover. My first thought was "wow this story is moving quickly." I figured there would be more lead up to the affair between James and Meridith but they just jumped right in.
All along I was thinking the book was pretty much going to be sex and sex talk but then Meridith had her first flashback.
The story was sort of jumpy and didn't really flow that well. I think there was too much emphasis on the sex instead of the story.

I don't like to be negative but geeeeez this was so poorly written I stopped half way through. The language and word-choice was terrible to the point that it made me chuckle to myself (so worth it if you fancy a laugh)

Meredith has met the man of her dreams. She can barely survive the day knowing she will be in his arms that night. As their passion and desires grow, Meredith is transported in a dream back in time. Meredith and James knew each other in the past. Over and over they meet, fall in love, then betray each other. Can Meredith stop this cycle? Or will she once again lose the only man she has ever loved time and time again?

Meredith Sinclair has everything she ever wanted. A great life, fantastic job, and now James Hamilton. A god; he is the most beautiful man she has ever met. And the way he make her feel-her body weeps at the mere thought of his name. They are both lawyers who are involved in facilitating a merger between their companies. It is erotic foreplay for them to fight all day then love all night. She would do anything for him and to him. And will allow him to do anything to her. It has become an obsession for both of them.

Oh my jeebus, I can't believe I wasted so much time on this book.

First off, opposing counsel on two sides of a merger should not be jumping into bed together. One of them should have had a modicum of common sense.

Two, a vision of the past? Spare me. At least tell the guy you're fucking why you're freaked out instead of running away from him, then running back to him, then running away from him, then running back to him. Have a backbone or something.

I finally gave up the fourth or fifth time she came back to him. Because life's too short for stupid simpering idiotic heroines...

Not sure about this one. I liked the present day story of James and Meredith and the historical story of Gavin and Margaret but story of Koll and Oriana was too much.

I didn't feel the connection between the three. It just seemed like three random stories.

It's an interesting concept of love through the ages. I really liked these two, but there seemed to be a little something missing. Most definitely a VERY hot, steamy read!
