I love when a new French Quarter Mystery comes out. They are the epitome of Southern charm. Sammy is mixed up in murder again but this time it's an old mystery from the past connected with the murder of a nurse. Paige Davenport takes care of the terminal friend of Mono McBride, Nora. There's a connection when it's revealed that Harris Davenport was the boyfriend of Nora. He died in his courtyard after an argument with her plans. Now Nora thinks she killed him. Paige his niece,is found dead in the same courtyard. Can Sammy solve both murders before Nora's passing? Plus she's dealing with her double birthdays coming up and Aunt Charlene's determination to make the celebration a big deal.
Sometimes you read a book, set in the area where you live….and you cringe at the inaccurate details in the story. I can say this was not the case in Happy Homicide. (The entire series in fact is well written and accurate in details). The author does a great job including the small details of the sights and sounds of the French Quarter. Having lived in Louisiana my entire life, I can envision the area while reading the story and yes it’s like walking around the French Quarter. It’s a nice cozy mystery by one of my top 5 favorite authors .
I enjoyed reading this book very much. I like all the characters in this series and learning about the French Quarter. I have never been to New Orleans but the author does a wonderful job describing the location so that I feel I get a glimpse of what it must be like. I enjoyed the mystery as well. I can't wait to read the next one.
Another great addition to this series. I really liked how Samantha and the other women characters really bonded in this story. I really enjoyed all the references to places and food found in NOLA. And of course the solving of not one, but two murders. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series to be released in October.
This story has everything in it to make me wish I could visit New Orleans! I love Sammie and the gang, and I believe that most any reader will enjoy it too! Well done!
Great story that had me in tears so many times while I was reading. My only complaint is that now I have to wait months for the next book. I love this series, and this author
I'm so glad I preordered this book. It was hard to wait for the new year. I wanted it to count for my 2025 reads. Started the year off with Sammy and her friends and family. I finished the book so quickly. Jen Pitts knows how to write a story that flows. I can't wait for October for the next book in the series!
A very good mystery. The characters are like old friends and it was fun to visit everyone. The crime was solved ,family and friends were all together. I felt a little sad for those lost.
I read this series as an easy read between some of my heavier reads. I enjoy the series quite a bit, especially as someone who loves New Orleans and also wants to just change her life to move there.
The author brings NOLA to life where you can almost smell the coffee. Her description of the town and food are enthralling. Her characters are becoming family to me and the mysteries keep you guessing. And cats, it has cats!
The seventh book in the French Quarter Mystery Series, takes Sammy and her friends on an intriguing whodunnit. There are several people who could have committed the latest crimes.
Losing myself in Jen’s books always makes me want to visit New Orleans again. If you are (and maybe if you’re not) a cozy mystery fan, I recommend this series.
Disappointed in this one. It took me so long to finish because I didn’t care what happened. In every series there’s one someone doesn’t like. I think that’s pretty good odds if it’s just one haha. Excited for October 21 for book 8!
