When I saw the cookbook title, I got excited. Country comfort food is my family’s favorite type of eating however, not knowing this was a ticktock star, I didn’t realize this wasn’t an American based cookbook. Oops!

First, the photography is absolutely gorgeous. Every photo captured my attention immediately. It truly was the highlight of this cookbook for me personally. It would make a great decor piece on a coffee table for the photography alone.

Unfortunately the recipes left little to no desire to cook anything. I couldn’t find anything that screamed country comfort or kid/family friendly. It was all very extravagant and garish. I was able to save one dinner recipe and three desert recipes that sounds appealing and simple.

The formatting isn’t my favorite. I hate having long paragraphs per step.
I prefer several numbered short steps so I don’t have to go back a re-read the entire page if needed.

I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read this cookbook. As a mom of four who looks to cook, I’m always searching for new recipes. While this wasn’t a win for me, I know others are sure to love it!

Oh how I love this book, with 90 scrumptious recipes for comfort food--my fav fare! Organized into chapters by the time it takes to make (from 10 to 40 minutes), each recipe had me drooling and each photo had me oohing and aahing. A winner!

Country Comfort is full of delicious recipes ranging from the well known, to more unique dishes. The cookbook is thoughtfully organized by how long the recipe takes to cook. You get recipes that take 10, 20, 30, or 40 minutes to make, in that order. The book ends with some dessert recipes as well as a list of drink pairings for recipes in the book. The photographs in this cookbook are stunning. The author's life and environment are pictured alongside simple, but elegant pictures of each recipes' finished product.

This cookbook is aesthetically pleasing and has the perfect mixture of Beavis' own take on recipes and recipes I haven't seen elsewhere (and I go through every cookbook I can get my hands on!). I would recommend this to anyone looking for healthier comfort recipes!

Thanks to NetGalley and Carnival for the advanced copy of this title in return for an honest review.

I do love a cookbook, and I often read them as novels, from front to back, reading the introduction, all the recipes, tips and advice. And this book has been on my radar for a while now, and was on my to-buy list, so I was excited to get an early look at it.

I don't know if Hari did the food photography herself or if it was someone else, but either way, it is absolutely stunning and really shows the dishes off well.

For someone who owns about 50 cookbooks, I am not a very good cook. My disability means it's not always safe for me to be cooking or using sharp implements etc. but I still enjoy reading all things cooking, and baking. I used to bake practically everyday - I once did 3 wedding cake sin one day, I did birthday cakes, bakes for work, bakes for funerals etc. It was how I dealt with my emotions. Which makes it even more difficult now as I don't have that regular outlet. But there are definitely some recipes in here that look simple enough for me to, if not do all of, to at least assist with.

Hari covers everything from quick 10 minute dishes to longer 40+ minute main meals, perfect for hosting guests, so there really is something for everyone.

A lot of cookbooks are a bit samey, because surely how many different types of one dish can there be? And yes, there are your favourites - curries, stroganoff, salads - but Hari has put her own twist on them, and has provided us with a few of her own personal and family options.

I love that for each recipe she has provided an 'alternative ingredients' list, necause we don't aways have every single ingredient ready to go, or perhaps we can't afford to go out and buy all these ingredients you'll only use for this dish and then get pushed to the back of the cupboard. So that was good, she gives you options, which is especially good for someone like me who is quite fussy.

It's got a very clear layout. Sparse pages makes the photos take centre stage and the recipe itself easy to read. It's not heavy clunky paragraphs or long instructions. It's clear and easy to read and easy to follow. She has provided both imperial and metric instructions, as well as a list of equipment needed, and a little introduction to each recipe.

I have been writing a baking cookbook on and off for years, mainly so I could preserve the recipes I used to love making. Ad having read this book, it's exactly the atmosphere I want mine to have. Clear, honest, easy to follow, casual, calm, beautiful, and just very comforting.

I may have been given an early digital copy of this book, but I'll definitely be buying it upon release to add to my cookbook shelves; I can see it being used a lot!

Book Review: Country Comfort: Hearty, Wholesome Meals in Minutes by Hari Beavis

Rating: 4 Stars

As someone who loves to cook, I was thrilled to dive into Country Comfort, the debut cookbook from content creator Hari Beavis. This book is all about creating wholesome, hearty meals that feel like a warm hug—without the fuss. With so many cookbooks out there aiming to be trendy and avant-garde, it’s refreshing to find one that focuses on genuine comfort food.

The premise of Country Comfort is simple yet enticing: it’s designed for those of us who want a delicious meal after a long day, but don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen. Beavis has organized the recipes into chapters based on cooking time—10, 20, 30, or 40 minutes—so you can easily choose what fits your schedule. From quick dishes like Raspberry, Nectarine, and Mozzarella Salad to more time-consuming delights like One Pan Orzo Salmon, there's something for everyone. And let’s not forget the baking chapter at the end—it’s filled with thoughtful treats perfect for showing someone you care.

Now, let me tell you, the photography in this cookbook is absolutely stunning! Each photo captured my attention making me want to cook everything! It truly became one the highlights of this book. It’s so aesthetically pleasing that it could easily double as coffee table decor. The images feature both Beavis' life and environment alongside beautifully styled shots of each dish, making me feel even more connected to the recipes.

What I love most about this cookbook is its thoughtful organization and range of recipes—from familiar comfort foods to unique dishes. The balance of Beavis' own twists on classic recipes along with those that feel fresh and new is impressive. Plus, there's a handy list of drink pairings that add an extra touch of thoughtfulness to your meal planning.

In conclusion, Country Comfort delivers on its promise of creating delicious meals that evoke feelings of warmth and nostalgia. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a meal to savor over the weekend, this cookbook has got you covered. I’d happily recommend it to anyone seeking healthier comfort recipes that are both easy to make and visually delightful. I’m giving it a solid 4 stars—definitely worth adding to your culinary collection!

Country Comfort is a debut cookbook by Hari Beavis filled with 90 recipes for quick and easy comfort food inspired by country living. The recipes are organized by time, ranging from Comfort in 10 minutes to Comfort in 40 minutes, with a special baking chapter at the end. From Honey-Kissed Camembert to Mushroom and Prosecco Risotto, you'll find a variety of delicious dishes to make, including easy wins like Leftover Roast Dinner Hotpot and tasty bakes like Almond Bundt Cake. Each recipe includes swaps and additional options for customization, making it easy to create wholesome meals for any occasion.

I am eagerly anticipating the release of the hardcover edition. Although I do not currently follow Hari Beavis on social media, I am now considering doing so. This debut cookbook features a plethora of stunning candid photos and images of the recipes. I particularly appreciate the book's organization, which makes it easy to navigate. I am thrilled at the prospect of trying out some of these recipes!

The baked recipes included in the book are truly mouthwatering. Who wouldn't want to attempt making croissant or waffle pudding? I recently tried the cream puffed pastries, and I am eagerly awaiting feedback from my family.

This cookbook has elevated my cooking skills and makes me feel like a professional chef! The hardcover edition is set to be released on 9/2/2024, and I am counting down the days until I can get my hands on a copy.

I've been finding myself in a bit of a rut recently when it comes to cooking dinner, so this book came along at the right time!

The recipes in Country Comfort are divided into 5 sections: 10-minute recipes, 20-minute recipes, 30-minute recipes, 40-minute recipes and baking. The fastest recipes are perfect for busy school nights and most of them would work for fussy kids. Some of my favourites were the chicken quesadillas (great for using up leftover chicken) and creamy chicken pasta, which I am adding to my rota for swimming nights when I only have 15 minutes to get dinner on the table. I'm also looking forward to trying the one-pan salmon orzo and the couscous, sweet potato and pomegranate salad.

As the title suggests, a lot of these recipes could be classified as comfort food and so there is liberal use of heavy cream in many of the recipes. That said, there are plenty of salads and recipes with lots of vegetables too!

One thing I really appreciated was the Alternative Ingredients list at the bottom of most recipes, suggesting substitutions based on what you might have in your pantry (for instance the cheesy fish pie suggests replacing potatoes with sweet potatoes or pie pastry and offers suggestions of different fish and seafood fillings).

A recommended read for fans of Jamie Oliver and dinner makers in need of inspiration.

Thank you to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing group for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Country Comfort by Hari Beavis is a delightful cookbook. It contains many recipes for main dishes but there are also some decadent dessert recipes to choose from as well. Since I often get into a rut when it comes to planning meals, this cookbook is a great resource. I can always come up with dessert idea but dinner ideas? Not so much.

Almost every recipe is appealing (maybe because of the photos that accompany many of them) and definitely comforting. They aren’t overly complicated, and should appeal to a variety of tastes. The recipes are well-written, with easy-to-follow instructions. The author also includes suggestions for alternative ingredients, which can often be quite helpful.

One of the unique things about Country Comfort is the presentation of the material. Each section is organized by the amount of time it takes to prepare the dish. The cookbook starts with only 10 minutes of prep time and works its way up to 40 minutes. There have been so many times I’ve intended to make a particular dish for dinner, only to realize I haven’t given myself enough time. If you’re a busy cook, this cookbook could prove to be very useful. No more second guessing on dinner prep.

I am not familiar with this author but, based on her latest cookbook, I’ll definitely keep her on my radar now. NetGalley provided an advance copy.

I absolutely love love this cookbook! The recipes were so well done, written easy enough to want to make just about every single dish. The pictures accompanying each recipe were so so breathtaking enough that I was ready to make any of the recipes. I really appreciated the occasional notes of alternate ingredients, especially when my husband can get so picky with certain items (looking at you, anything seafood!).

There was a wide range of the types of cuisine, in which I appreciated. I liked that I could go from making chicken Mac&cheese to Lamb Pitta Kaftas. This cookbook was hitting all the right notes for me when meal planning each week for a month. I'm one of those cooks that I must have a picture alongside a recipe otherwise I wouldn't look through the cookbook, but I'm admitting that this cookbook didn't deter me from shying away. Plenty of recipes didn't have pictures, but the actual recipes themselves were intriguing enough that I was ok with that!

First to definitely make: Butter Chicken Curry Pie. My stomach is growling now. Loved this cookbook so much, but I just wished there were more doodles to be consistent throughout, but that's just a teeny thing!

Thank you to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group - White Lion for a copy of this mouth watering collection. All opinions are my own.

I’m a sucker for cookbooks of all kinds. I’ve been following Hari for some time and was able to snag Country Comfort at my local Homesense for a steal—$17 all in. To my surprise and delight, it’s been a gem in my collection. Maybe it’s because we’re in the depths of a brutally cold Canadian winter, but this book is hitting just right. It’s filled with the kind of warm, comforting dishes you crave this time of year.

I’ve made many of the recipes and they’ve all been delicious. Some standouts for me include:
• Raspberry, nectarine & mozzarella salad
• My Loved Ones’ Carbonara
• Chicken quesadillas
• Feta, caramelised onion & honey tartlets
• Lamb pitta koftas
• Stuffed meatballs on a bed of orzo
• My Famous Beef Ragù
• Banana, peanut butter & chocolate muffins
• Big Kids’ Kinder Nutella cheesecake

I’m giving this book a solid 4 out of 5. The only downside is that the directions can be a bit spotty. The recipes assume a certain level of cooking knowledge, with steps that are quite basic and don’t always go into detail. As someone who loves to cook, I’m comfortable improvising and using my experience to get great results—but I do think beginner cooks might find themselves a little lost at times.

That said, out of my 80+ cookbook collection, Country Comfort has proven to be a top contender and one I’ll definitely return to again and again.

My mom and her whole family are from the UK, so a lot of the meals in here are comfort meals I grew up on, maybe a bit grown up, which was perfect for me. The leftover rainbow pinwheels took me right back to my mom making them for game days.

I loved the division of recipes that could be done in 10/20/30/40 minutes. On a day you're in a rush or are exhausted, you don't want to spend time thumbing through the book looking for something that fits your schedule. Having that designated as certain sections is really helpful.

Including substitution options on the page is helpful and saves the hassle of thinking which ways to change a dish for your family's preferences. As someone who is a more experienced home chef, this is something I've mastered, but I think is good for people just getting into cooking. This is a simple and easy starting guide, but still full of good, filling food.

I personally believe images can make or break a cookbook, since we so often eat with our eyes first in the era of Pinterest recipes and endless pictures of food on social media. The images in here are beautiful and really underline the comfort aspect.

I know that I eat with my eyes. “Country Comfort: Hearty, wholesome meals in minutes” by Hari Beavis is a full meal. The photos are delicious! Well, delicious-looking. The author has organized the book by approximate time to make the recipes, so there’s chapters for comfort food in 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, and 40 minutes. If time to cook is your main reason for trying these recipes you’re all set. And that’s if you can resist the scrumptious photos in the other sections. I didn’t find any recipe that is difficult to make. Always a plus in my mind, and also a contributor to the “comfort” aspect of the recipes. There isn’t any nutritional info for the dishes, but many of them are replete with grains and veggies. That would be my only complaint, and I can overlook that due to the variety of dishes. The last main chapter is “Baking Everything Better.” Oh my goodness, there are some decadent recipes in this section, but not overly difficult to put together. Beavis is a TikTok influencer from the UK; she has produced an interesting collection of unique but comforting dishes.

I love a good cookbook and I’m always looking for new recipes. The cover Dane title drew ,e to this one. One thing I loved about this is the book is sectioned off from 10,20,30, & 40 minute recipes. This is really great option to the book because sometimes you need a quick meal and other times you might have more time to make a larger meal, Honestly some of these recipes were over my head and I didn’t know what some of the ingredients were but there were still quite a few recipes that I loved and hope to try. Some of the recipes included My Loved Ones Carbonara, Chicken Quesadillas, a speedy creamy chicken risotto, and a Chicken Mac n Cheese. There was a great chopped Cobb Salad and a Chicken Caesar Salad. I also think it depends on the type of meat you like there were several fish recipes. I truly loved the dessert section from a chocolate & hazelnut croissant pudding, a banana, peanut butter chocolate muffins, and a simply delicious brownies. With the range of recipes this was definitely worth a buy.

I do not have a TikTok account so I was not familiar with this before seeing it available on NetGalley. The thing that stood out to me immediately was the way the recipes were segregated into sections based on the preparation time that it would take for the recipe. In other words, quick 10 minute choices, to 40 minute options - in addition to many, many baking options.

The other thing that was a winner in my book was the amount of pictures that accompany each recipe. I already own way too many cookbooks that have paragraphs and paragraphs of text without a single picture. For me, who enjoys cooking, but am far from an expert in the kitchen, I need all the help I can get. Pictures, make everything better.

Thank you to NetGalley and to Quarto Publishing Group for the opportunity to review this ARC. The opinions above are mine and mine alone. This publication will be available and out for publication on September 03, 2024.

A wonderful debut cookbook for Hari Beavis. This book has 90 recipes to help with those quick and easy meals that you need for those busy days. They are separated by times, there is even a chapter on meals in 10 minutes. There is a chapter at the end about baking for those wonderful dessert cravings. Even better, each recipe comes with a list of swaps and some additional ideas to create your perfect meal. I Love how detailed the recipes are. With a full description, along with easy to follow ingredients and directions. The pictures are simply mouth watering, making me want to try every recipe. I found some favorites like the Hug-in-a-bowl Beef Stroganoff and Dragon Pie ‘with Dragons Caught from the Welsh Mountains’.
I loved this book. It is so creative and fun with recipes I can see my family wanting to eat, and they did. Your family will love cooking together with this book. It is a perfect gift for anyone looking for some fun, easy and creative meals. Enjoy with your family.

This cookbook is purely delightful. The recipes are easily followed and the layout makes everything very simple to find. The book is not overly-complicated, which makes it one of my favorite go-to’s!

The photos in the book entices me to try each recipe. Simply amazing and comforting.

The recipes inside that I’ve tried are: Breakfast Beans & Eggs, Creamy Tuna Pasta Salad, and the Mediterranean Pasta Salad.

There are too many of the books recipes on my “To Be Cooked” list to name! This book is worth its weight in cookbook gold! Hari Beavis has truly outdone herself with this “dream in the making!”

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is a nice cookbook but it's mostly because the photography is gorgeous! The structure is great - separating the chapters on the time spent cooking; although what meal is really done in 10 minutes? Let's be serious.

I also enjoyed the ingredients substitutes and how the same meal can be recreated yet made different by switching something up.

But other than that, I felt it lacked something unique and maybe something personal - don't get me wrong, the author is sharing memories for each dish and so on, but the recipes are nothing new or groundbreaking or something that would make me put the book down and go cook.

Country Comfort is a cookbook I know I will be going back to over and over again, especially this fall! The recipes all look so cozy and decadent, and I am especially excited to try some of the pasta recipes like the carbonara, chilli noodles, and the ghnocchi bake! I also love that these recipes feel like "home' and while they aren't recipes I personally grew up with in the USA, I still feel that strong connection since I can tell the author has a lot of love for these recipes, and it makes me want to start some recipe traditions with my family using the recipes from this book. I really appreciate it being broken down into how long the recipes take to make because it helps so much with planning our meals. The pictures are absolutely gorgeous as well and look mouth-watering!

This cookbook is lovely! Full of comfort foods and delicious recipes. I especially love how the book is divided into sections based on length of cook time, making it easy to determine what to make each week based on my schedule.

As an American, I found the recipes and ingredients appealing and accessible. The only inconvenience is some measurements using grams/oz (i.e. peas, shrimp, Parmesan cheese), which may restrict individuals who do not have a kitchen scale. However, the majority of ingredients do have cup/fl oz conversion notated.

I’m looking forward to exploring more recipes in this book and bringing a little piece of England to my home.

I loved Country Comfort by Hari Beavis! Hari has a way of writing that made me want to curl up under a blanket with a mug of something hot, even though it’s 95° outside. I really appreciated that she took the time to do weights, metric measurements, and imperial measurements. She also gave great substitutions and gave the US equivalent of a lot of the ingredients. I love that she also said how long something would freeze for, and showed where you could do some steps ahead to save time. Very down-to-earth and comforting recipes. I can’t wait to try some of the recipes!

This was a beautifully designed cookbook full of delicious sounding recipes that included clear instructions for each recipe. Many also include a photo. While the cookbook is British cuisine I think many Americans will like the recipes. I for one want to try the fish pie, chicken Caesar salad, homemade tomato soup, and carrot cake. But I do have a question: do Brits not frost the outside of their cakes? Seems odd to this American!

If there’s a negative for this cookbook it’s the price. Over $30 for a kindle book? That’s a bit much for me!

Definitely some fun and unique recipes within the covers of this cookbook. This focuses on the country portion of England with some classics and fun twists on recipes. This will allow for the reader to learn some new ideas on recipes they may have grown up with or allow the exploratory cooker/baker a look at some different recipes that are not common with the area they are from. This cookbook incorporates some well written recipes with fabulous photos enabling the reader to try out the recipes and know with confidence they will be successful. Now off to try these recipes. Thanks to the author, Netgalley and author for the opportunity.

Country Comfort focuses on comforting easy and simple dinners. While the food isn’t southern delights it is all very comforting food. I quite enjoy the inclusion of simpler and less time consuming recipes for when you are in a pinch.

The Sections are
Comfort in 10
Comfort in 20
Comfort in 30
Comfort in 40
Baking everything Better
Drink Pairings

Each recipe has a brief about the recipe, servings, directions, equipment needed, directions, and any alternative ingredients. Most recipes have a beautiful picture of the dish.

Country Comfort is a recipe book that is broken down into how long recipes take to make (10, 20, 30, and 40 minutes). It is full of delicious food and has lots of photos. My favorite recipes are the "Can't be bothered to cook' chilli noodles, Ricotta stuffed tomato pasta, Grandparents approved carrot cake, Poppy seed, rosemary and lemon drizzle muffins, and the Cinnamon crunch cake.

Read this book if you like:

This is a book filled with winter comfort foods, homely staples that stick to the ribs and make you feel cosy and full. It is very British with hints of Indian, Italian, American and French.
The recipes are simple, easy to make, most are pretty cheap and full of flavours.
Most are also probably heavier than what I like but are perfect for the home cook that doesn't want a lot of cookbooks, doesn't want to spend a lot of time behind the stove, and needs something they can use all winter.
Can't say there is a lot of surprise for me, it's filled with the classics with only slight twists, but it's a very beautiful book and I'm sure it will become a favourite in many homes.

These recipes lack detail and it seems like “intuitive” steps for the author have been skipped and not been put into writing. This cookbook is aesthetically pleasing, and I liked all the pictures of the food. The chapters organize the recipes into how long it takes to cook each recipe, which could be beneficial if you were looking for something quick to make. This cookbook seems like it could be marketed to people with less coking experience, who are looking for quick meals to put together. I just think the recipes would benefit from more detail. The pizza dough recipe would also benefit from the addition of salt.

I love the photography, every plate looked delicious, and the recipes are easy to follow. However, if your palette isn't "adult", there will probably be more dishes you'd NOT make, than dishes you would in this book. I would maybe make and eat 15% of the featured recipes, but that's just my tastebud issues. I feel like most people would like these array of recipes. I also feel like the title of the book doesn't really go with the vibe of the recipes, if that makes sense. It's a bit misleading in my opinion.

This is a very cosy cookbook, reminding me of autumn nights and winter meals from the title to the photography to the recipes.

I haven't cooked from it yet (so you have to bear that in mind with any scoring) but I've marked an awful lot of pages to try out at some point.

I like how each chapter is organised by time (eg whether it takes a meal 10, 20, 30, or 40 minutes) - always a useful pointer for me as I tend to be rather time-poor.

Sure, there's probably going to be overlap with the recipes you have in other books, but there are really only so many popular combos out there.

I'm looking forward to trying these with my fussy family and reporting on the results.

This is a very bougie cookbook that will be a big hit with many. There are beautiful photos for most of the recipes, but no nutritional information. It is divided into recipes that take 10, 20 and 30 minutes (supposedly) and desserts. The recipes tend to call for very high end ingredients— truffle oil, lamb, red Leicester cheese, prawns, etc. It is rather heavy on wheat, dairy and meat, making it less fitting for some dietary needs. It wasn’t a good fit for me but the recipes sounded delicious.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

Amazing recipe book, I appreciated how it was sectioned by the time it takes to cook the dish as I can quickly look for a nutritious and delicious meal after a busy day at work. The recipe themselves look well balanced and I love the variety within the book- truly something for everyone! I’ll recommend to my family and friends wholeheartedly and very excited to cook more dishes from this book!
