This series is really starting to grow on me. I like that the main character isn't perfect or supremely competent, and the secondary characters are all a lot of fun. I also love the developing relationship between the main character and the "hero"/aloof but sexy "rival"/potential love interest (see all those quotes? He's complex enough that nothing really perfectly describes him). Particularly since it's happening when he believes she's someone else. Very fun. I've started ordering these so I can own them.

Hime is now in the thick of her journey to becoming a voice actor. However it's not the path she thought she'd be taking. To make matters worse, the two classmates she wants to stay far away from are now with her more often. Such an interesting series so far.

This volume was a little boring compared to the previous one, not gonna lie, but it was enjoyable regardless.

My thoughts, in no particular order and therefore entirely incoherent, and other stuff I guess:
-Okay, on the one hand, of course Mizuki has a key to Hime's place... but also, why does Mizuki have a key to Hime's place?
-I love this trope of amateurs vs professionals because the amateur is always annoyed by how impressed they are/how much they can learn from the professional, and it happens in a lot of the manga series that I read (this one, Skip Beat, Library Wars - there's probably others too).
-Senri the cat dad is the best part of this manga and I genuinely believe that.
-I love the variation of speech bubbles that are given to Hime's terrible voices, it's a really lovely touch.
-Yamada really takes tough love to a whole new level, but then he also became weirdly protective of Hime really quickly, so I don't know how I feel.
-I really appreciated the whole "No can perfectly read another person's feelings" bit because I forgot that they didn't immediately go with the whole trope of Mizuki immediately being able to read her emotions because it's like, I don't care how well you know how to read another person, you've known her for like two weeks, calm down. Like, Mizuki was shocked when Hime said that she was frustrated with herself rather than what Yamada was making her do, I think it was a nice change for me personally.
-Why does everyone in this series have some sort of trauma? It hurts, okay. Mizuki and Ume's stories are actually kind of similar when you think about it though, especially taking into account the reactions they had to Hime's words/actions respectively. I'm just saying that although I'm already onboard the UmexSho train, Ume and Mizuki could've had a really interesting dynamic (I actually don't even remember if they do).
-Sidenote, Mizuki and Tsukino would absolutely be best-friends just based on the fact that they're both ride-or-die for Hime. Like, if you come at Hime, it's on sight. Let them be best-friends, they'd terrorize everyone.
-Aw man, it really has been a long time because I do not recall Mizuki and Shuma being childhood friends, that's so cute!
-Mizuki and Hime fighting is the most I've liked their dynamic, it feels like he finally stopped putting up the same "prince" act that he does in front of other people, just be the jerk that you know you are deep down Mizuki. (not them already interlocking hands though)
-I completely forgot about Hime using Mizuki's glasses as a crutch. It's kind of like when I felt like I truly needed to drop $35 dollars on a Productivity Planner to get things done.
-This was my favourite Mitchy's Room because my thoughts exactly! Imagine being the main love interest and only appearing for one chapter.
-I don't think they did this last time, but I really enjoyed that they included a bonus page with interviews of voice acting students, it was definitely an interesting read. I can't remember if there are more like this, but I hope that there are.

In Summary

Forced to live as a boy by her producer, Hime spends this volume cross-dressing and struggling to control her “Prince Voice.” However, the story focuses less on her acting career and more on the true personalities of AQUA and Senri. This adds depth to the boys and provides some justification for Mizuki’s interest in Hime, but I find myself, like Shuma, irked by the attention received by our “super amateur.”

The Review

As part of her contract with Yamada, Hime agrees to pose as a boy (Shiro) whenever she is not at school, and now that she’s cross-dressing, the manga takes on a reverse harem flavor. (Funny how that happens with shojo manga). Except for the very first pages, Hime is the only girl featured in the volume, not counting the flashbacks of Sana. As for the male characters costarring with her, they’re the school’s three most popular boys (AQUA and Senri) and her uber influential producer Yamada.

Senri is the only one out of the four who doesn’t know that Shiro is Hime. That, however, works to Hime’s advantage. In fact, it gets her into his apartment. Like Hime, I found his house terrifying (any place with that many cats has got to smell awful), but Minami-sensei presents his circumstances as those of a lonely, misunderstood boy. At any rate, Hime discovers a side of him no one else is privy to even as she utterly fails in trying to manipulate him with her voice skills.

Speaking of her voice acting ability, Hime’s realizing (finally) that her inability to control her voice is a problem. In true Hime fashion, she attempts to overcome it through practice and willpower, but she’s already proven neither of those help. So Yamada suggests a weekend training camp with both AQUA and Yamada accompanying her. (As Hime observes, they seem to have an awful lot of free time on their hands). While I still find it difficult to believe that anyone, let alone an entertainment professional, would invest so much into a “super amateur,” it is gratifying to see Hime punished Yamada-style every time she makes a mistake. But even though the purpose of the trip is for Hime to gain control over her “Prince Voice,” it winds up being about Mizuki’s past. The parallels between Sana and Hime are kind of weak, especially considering Hime’s not the only Straggler at school. However, as with Senri, Hime gets to see a side of Mizuki no one else does, which leaves me wondering if she’s going to stumble upon some secret of Shuma’s in the next volume.

Extras include embedded author’s remarks, translation notes, another mini-Mitchy manga, and Voice Acting Students Now!, an interview with seven voice acting students at Tokyo Animator College.

THE GOOD

Senri: Alright, he was just too cute in this volume. Especially when it came to the kittens and Shiro.

Hime/Shiro: Hime is still struggling with her Prince voice, which I find makes her likeable. If she was just able to do it whenever, I feel like she wouldn't be a very good character.

Mizuki: We learn about his past and his guilt over a former friend giving up on her dreams once he stopped going along to support her. It's very sad and shows that he and Shuma are afraid that it will happen again with Hime.

THE BAD

Drag: This volume does have some points where the story drags a bit.

Synopsis:

Hime just got her first big break in voice acting, but it means she has to move out of her house and pretend to be a boy! Her new manager, Yamada, is willing to put in the extra time to train her personally, and Hime's hope of being a voice actor seems close to being fulfilled. But Yamada insists he'll only use her for male characters. Will she have to give up on Lovely * Blazer to see her dream come true?

My Thoughts:

Hime is getting a bit closer to her dream in this volume. Only, she has to start living a double life to start out. And if she's going to live a double life, she's got to keep it a secret from pretty much everyone. The only ones that know what's going on are Yamada and Mizuki and Shuma of Aqua.

Yamada insists that Hime must use her prince voice everywhere except for at school, but she's having trouble with using it on cue. Sometimes, the voice comes out and sometimes, it doesn't. She's determined, though.

She also gets to know Senri and Mizuki a little better in this volume. Granted, Senri doesn't know who she is when she's wearing her boy persona. I can't wait for him to find out. I wonder how he'll react? He's such a strange guy, who knows what he'll do? I enjoyed learning about Mizuki's past even though it was sad. I now understand why Shu is so overprotective of him when it comes to girls getting close to him. I'm still not sure if Mizuki looks at Hime as a potential close friend or a potential girlfriend. I am sure that they're friends now, though.

I'm looking forward to the next volume.

I immensely enjoyed reading this gender-bender.

The story is about a girl named Kino Hime whose dream was to become the voice of the main character in one of the most popular series in Japan, "Magic Fighter Lovely Blazers". To do so she entered a high school that has classes for voice acting.

Due to the sound of her voice not being suitable for acting(sounded like an old man and sometimes even worse), she was made fun of and was last in class. She soon meets 3 other classmates who also have problems with their acting and their group was called dropouts.

To Kino Hime surprise her idol's son is in the same class but is very cold towards everyone. She tries her best to deal with him throughout the story and falls in love.

Kino Hime also finds out that she can make her voice sound like a beautiful young male and this captures the attention of a producer who offers her a contract that may open the way to her future and up the stairs towards her goal. But there is a catch, she has to dress up as a boy and only use her male voice and nobody can no of this deal.

What i like a lot about this manga was how the main character lived with her mother and her younger sister and how mother doesn't acknowledge her at all, always telling her that shes a disappointment, etc. Throughout this story Kino Hime is trying her best to prove her worth and to make her mother proud of her. It also showed her emotions on how much she wanted to succeed in doing so.

What is it with Japanese manga and gender bending (or is gender switching more appropriate? Gender hiding?) There are so many titles out there that involve a character having to pretend to be a different gender or getting confused for a different gender. It's not a bad thing, but I find the obsession with it rather odd.

In this volume, Hime has officially moved out of her house to live in the apartment that her producer set up for her. One of the conditions of being basically the producer's slave is that she has to pretend to be a boy at all times except when she's in school. Someone's got a fetish. Still, there are fun antics about Hime trying to be a boy.

Much of this volume takes place at a voice retreat Hime is attending. In general, I found a lot of things confusing. There are lots of voice retreat scenes where Hime is trying to get the ability to do her "prince" voice on command. She's interracting with some guy whose importance I can't place. And then there are other scenes where she isn't at the voice retreat and she's meeting up with Senri Kudo. There's a few adorable instances with Kudo and kittens - the highlight of the volume.

Overall, the pacing of this volume was very strange. I am quite confused by this series, but I continue to be intrigued enough to keep going. We will see if that continues.

Seiyuu-ka! a.k.a Voice Over!

The rating and review are conclusion for all of the volumes. Except for the synopsis.

Okay. This is a good story to pass my time before I start to concentrate on my final exam. It is not a slow pace story. I had fun reading this because there are some funny moments.

However, I don't give this manga a high rating because I don't admire the drawing. I could say the story is not so bad but what interests me the most about manga comic is the drawing. The characters for this story is good I guess. I mean, for example, the hero of this manga feels like a robot. I don't really like that.

I mean it's all good but I just don't feel it that much you know? There are a few sad scenes but it's not enough to trigger my emotions. So I kind of feel that this manga is not 'compatible' with me. You might want to try it out as it is not so bad. But for me, I like other manga compared to this.

I've just realized that I've read this manga before but I just can't quite remember the flow of the story. That's how I know I just don't enjoy it so much.

Synopsis for volume 3:
Hime accepts Yamada offer but she has to disguise as guy when she goes to work. She accepted the condition and what will become of her after this?

I didn't think I was going to like this too much what with the girl-pretending-to-be-a-boy theme introduced last volume and the pink cover this time. BTW, I loooved Vol. 2's cover! So, I was surprised to find I did enjoy this volume. I really do like the characters in the spotlight this volume, they are so sweet. I really like Hime, she's so fresh and naive (but in a refreshing way). When her gruff voices come out it is so cute. The end of this book had an interview with some real voice acting students which was very interesting; that theme was what drove me to try this series in the first place. The plot here concentrates on the only two boys (plus her manager) who know she is pretending to be a boy so I wasn't faced with any of the stuff I didn't like. The middle section dealt with a lot of romantic feelings between Hime and various boys and off-scene ex-girlfriends as well. This did get quite confusing for me as I'm just too old to appreciate this sort of highschool heart-throb stuff. Perhaps if one is a vampire or such, maybe? LOL. Anyway, this is a decent series, cute and so far totally clean. I'd recommend it to the intended audience but it is just not my thing and I will not continue any further, though I did enjoy my peek into the series.

~3.5-4/5

[Read more at my blog, Geeky Reading!]

So, there was a lot of Kudo in this volume. And, honestly, that makes me really happy. Sometimes, at school, he’s a big jerk. But then Hime meets him while pretending to be a boy, and he’s a whole new person. And I kind of love him. I just want to get to know him better, and I’m surprised by how strongly my feelings for him already are. (But, I mean, he has a hoard of stray cats. How could I resist that?)

We also got to know the Aqua boys, Mizuki and Shu, a lot better. Hime spent a lot of time training with them. She’s still having problems getting her voice under control, of which her manager is not happy. Shu is violent but kind of entertaining, and protective of Mizuki; Mizuki is more quiet, but still hurt over something from his past.

I’m enjoying getting to know the other boys, and intrigued by where the romance is going. I’m enjoying the voice acting side of things, as well as Hime’s family problems. I like seeing Hime work to get better with her voice, and I hope that she actually does progress with that. I like Kudo, as I’ve said. I’m enjoying the other character and relationship development. I’m looking forward to reading the next book.

Hime is now living on her own. Part of her deal is showbiz. That and how, outside of school, she is living a double life acting as a boy to make it.

This is my favorite volume so far. We get a lot of fantastic backround information on Mizuki and the girl he liked and once tried to help. We learn why he is is eager to help Hime. So sweet, yet so sad. The story drew my closer to the Aqua boys.

Hime is struggling to use her prince voice on a regular basis but a "cure" may have been found. Her story in this plays a bit smaller of a role as we get to know the other characters which was nice.

Another adorable volume, this series just seems to get better and better. Great for older audiense but clean and playful enough for younger reads too.

Hime leaves home in order to become a voice actor, the only catch is that she will be acting as a boy, Shiro and no body can know that it is her. While she is out walking one day she discovers Senri Kudo with a bunch of abandoned cats and she winds up back at his place. When Shiro is practicing her voice acting on a retreat with Shu and Mizuki she has trouble with her prince voice and it is only after Mizuki helps her with "magic" glasses that she is able to pull off her prince voice.

Overall this volume really seems to set up the rest of the story by finally getting to the voice acting and having Senri Kudo open up a little to Shiro. Everything is starting to gain momentum I just hope that it continues.

"Aku selalu sendirian.

An interesting development in the story. I found myself wondering how things were going to turn out. Seems there could be a couple of twists in the story.... and undoubtedly a love triangle (would it be a shojo manga without one?) but other than that, it's just a mildly entertaining read. It's not amazing, but it's not awful. I really liked the Chapter 16 splash page!!

Lovely little jewel of a manga where a girl tries her best to reach her dreams in some unconventional ways. If you like Host Club, this would be a great pick.
